Welcome to the Great Women in Compliance Podcast, co-hosted by Lisa Fine and Mary Shirley. Mary's first guest of this season is Samantha Kelen appearing in “Let's Get Real”. The two GWIC have gotten to know each other through their volunteer work on the leadership team of Compliance Career Connection, another wonderful example of how when you choose to send the elevator back down, inevitably you will be enriched as well. Sam's episode has a focus on being genuine, authentic and quite simply, human in this week's episode, not only in respect of being a Compliance professional, which is a fairly commonly accepted key to being successful in the field, but also as a leader in Compliance with responsibility setting tone and a role modeling example for a team. Samantha and Mary discuss some of the limitations of the concept of bringing your whole self to work, how vulnerability needs to be tempered with a filter and maintaining some semblance of professionalism. They also talk about how women oftentimes need to consider the repercussions about being direct or offering alternative opinions as coming across negatively, fairly or not. The Great Women in Compliance Podcast is on the Compliance Podcast Network with a selection of other Compliance related offerings to listen in to. If you are enjoying this episode, please rate it on your preferred podcast player to help other likeminded Ethics and Compliance professionals find it. You can also find the GWIC podcast on Corporate Compliance Insights where Lisa and Mary have a landing page with additional information about them and the story of the podcast. Corporate Compliance Insights is a much appreciated sponsor and supporter of GWIC, including affiliate organization CCI Press publishing the related book; “Sending the Elevator Back Down: What We've Learned from Great Women in Compliance” (CCI Press, 2020).

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 20, 2021 57:55

Post By: Adam Turteltaub Back in 2019 Samantha Kelen, Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer at Cardinal innovations Healthcare and Lisa Beth Lentini Walker, CEO and Founder of Lumen Worldwide Endeavors, proposed a session for the 2020 SCCE Compliance & Ethics Institute on recession-proofing your career.  By the time they conducted it in September a theoretical exercise had become an all-too-practical one.  These days, like most everyone else in business, compliance professionals have experienced serious erosion in job security. In this career-essential podcast they explain both how to prepare for and find a new opportunity while also ensuring your current employer understands the value you and the compliance team provides.  That includes keeping a business mindset and knowing the right language to use based on your audience. They also provide some unexpected advice, including checking employment ads on the SCCE (and HCCA) job boards and elsewhere, too, even if you aren’t on the market.  The job listings can tell you what employers are looking for these days and the skills you need both for finding new work and strengthening the program where you are now. Also included in this podcast are tips for improving your resume and advice on how to improve your networking. Listen in for valuable advice on improving your current compliance program and your chances of finding a new position, even in tough times like these.

Beth Spencer in conversation with Kit Kelen about his creative practice as poet, artist, publisher, collaborator, academic, mentor, musician and blogger. Kit reads selections from some of his many books intercut with original guitar tracks. They discuss Holden cars, bushfires, coal-addiction, and the role of place in his work -- as a writer who uses a lot of Australian idiom, colloquialisms and reference to landscape in his poetry, and who has also been widely translated. The process and benefits of translation, the role of habits and doodling, the disruptive power of humour in creative and political practice, and the importance of community and friendship. There was supposed to be a review of Kill la Kill and Studio Trigger itself, but it never got turned in. We save the best part for last this episode! The last portion of the episode is a review of Pokemon Sword/Shield and a exclusive interview with Tommy Diamond of Machamp's Gym on Facebook and Discord! This week, I'm joined by 4 members of Rockford band Yes Factory (Ian Zander, Brennan Reiter, Hannah Hovland and Kelen Price-Snowden). Before we ate delicious hot dogs at the legendary Superdawg, the band played two new songs in the car ("You Never Finish What You Start," "Someone I Love"). Discussed on the show: The origin of Yes Factory. The fact that Chicagoans and Rockfordians rarely go to each other's cities. Kelen enjoyed the equivalent of sitting coach in Delta. Kelen impressed us with his fancy box. Brennan and Hannah had a "voice off" in the backseat. Ian finds inspiration in bar restrooms. Chloroform: A love story. Hannah gave me a seismic shift in my lumbar area. The creators of Superdawg shockingly looked like anthropomorphic hot dogs. Sport peppers on a hot dog are "how it's supposed to be." Car Con Carne is like an ASMR video on YouTube. Hannah finds listening to people chew repulsive. She picked the right podcast! Finding compatible music partners is like finding a needle in a haystack. We talk about the recently-released Yes Factory EP. The legendary Chicago pizza chain is NOT "Illuminatis." Pizza Masons are not a real thing. After the half hour mark, we acknowledge that one of the members of Yes Factory is the son of Cheap Trick frontman Robin Zander. Spoiler warning: It's not who you think!

Welcome back to our #Multilateralism100 series, where we share conversations as part of the Centenary of Multilateralism in Geneva, and explore the issues and the people that have shaped multilateralism since the creation of the League of Nations to its transition to the United Nations.  In this episode, we take you on a tour back to the time of the League of Nations, as we speak to John Burley, one of the authors of a book published this year called Eric Drummond and his legacies: The League of Nations and the beginnings of global governance.   John Burley is a former UN staff member who worked for more than 30 years for different parts of the UN system. For this conversation, he shares with us his research insights on the legacies of the League of Nations and its first Secretary-General, Eric Drummond. While the term multilateralism didn't exist yet at the time, how did the work of the League and Eric Drummond help to shape the multilateral system and the international civil service of today? We discuss math, suburb restlessness and introspection within creation. It honestly was one of the more introspective conversations I've ever had with this podcast and I hope you enjoy.  Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers

It shouldn't be this hard to do what I love! The current heatwave coupled with the belligerence and his multitude of children has got ya boy Maps in a pickle! Since quitting isn't an option we at APCF have decided to release the first in a series of episodes that we feel are our personal favorites or deserve a little more love. This episode comes recommended by Miles Amadeus Prower as his personal favorite episode. if you haven't heard this episode yet, your in for a treat, and if you heard it when it dropped on Mar 23, 2019 then give it another listen you might be surprised. Original Episode Details: In the first episode of A Podcast Called Fresh, hosts Maps and Kelen Conley start off by discussing their love for comics since youth, and get into a review and movie pitch for Marvel's Nextwave TPB, written by Warren Ellis. From there they pitch fifty-eleven movies for the next Marvel movie phase, including the introduction of the X-Men, Alpha Flight, a North-Star spin-off, Spectrum/Photon's introduction into the MCU and more! We'll be honest with you, it'd be easier to tell you what we didn't talk about (Lobo, Venom and The Eternals). Before we begin we want you know that yes Maps knows he's mispronouncing it, and several people have told him....We start this episode off with the best blerd you ever heard talking how death is currently affecting his life he struggles with being nice because he feels like he's coming off as disingenuous. Following that Mr. Prower talks politics reality TV and plugs the hell out of Delicate Dominance Podcast From there Miles does a review of the movie Promare, by Studio Trigger. We hope you enjoy our first non in-house interview as well as most likely the longest episode we've had in awhile. Kelen said we should chop this into two episodes...yet here we are. Enjoy.
