In this episode of The Missing Secret Podcast, Kelly explains what she would tell the 20 year old version of herself regarding how to be successful. She starts out talking about the immense power of being a grower and a learner from a young age. Her dad turned her on to reading when she was 13 years old. And that's where she got it. And it played a significant factor in her life. Approaching life from a curiosity standpoint and learning whatever she could. In seeking people with wisdom beyond her own wisdom. That has been the hallmark trait of Kelly Hatfield. The other advice she would give the 20-year-old version of herself is to understand how the human mind works. When John taught Kelly the think it be it methodology when she was 44 years old, it was life transforming. The key thing she learned was that 95% of her daily thoughts and actions are unconscious. Once you really think about it and appreciate the profound implications, your life is never the same. John and Kelly talk about how lots of people understand this at a surface level. But do nothing about it. But those that really get it, and see its implications, are all about learning think it be it. During this episode John talks about the impact of the think it be it methodology has on one's identity. He talks about how we are all created haphazardly. Things have happened in our life that were both good and bad that has created good traits and bad traits. And we were raised by our parents in a certain way. But virtually none of it was intentional.Even how our parents raised us was largely unintentional. They just did the best they could. And how we were raised was certainly unintentional from our standpoint. We had nothing to do with it. That's why it's so cool to be able to re-create yourself with intention and clarity. Create the IDEAL YOU. Then when you create that in the CONSCIOUS MIND, you feed it every day to the subconscious mind through repetition. Then that identity is who you become. Because that's when it impacts your thoughts and actions automatically without thinking. About the Hosts:John MitchellJohn's story is pretty amazing. In this debut episode of The Missing Secret Podcast, John and Kelly explain the science of success. And more specifically the science of leveraging yourself. As you'll learned in the episode, at 50 John Mitchell wasn't as successful as he thought he should be. He had been an entrepreneur for 20 years, consistently earning $200,000 – $300,000 a year. But as materialistic as this sounds, John realized that to have The Exceptional Life he always dreamed of, he had to start netting over $1 million a year. Additionally, he realized he needed a partner in life and had to find the woman of his dreams. But at 50, how to change things? Then a pearl of wisdom came to John. Find the top book in the world on SUCCESS and apply that book literally Word for Word to his life. John then discovered that there is one book that has been read by 150 million people. It's the top book in the world on success by a factor of 10. That book is Think and Grow Rich. So John rushes out to buy the book and then reads the book. Then he discovered the problem. The book says there's a SECRET for success, but the author only reveals half of the secret. Ultimately John buckled down, read the book 20 times over a two month period of time, and figured out the full secret, the missing secret, and a 12 minute a day technique to apply it. Then he started applying it to a new business he started in the reverse mortgage business. Suddenly his income started doubling and doubling and doubling. To the point where he was making 25 times the 200,000 – $300,000 a year he was making the prior 20 years. John had leveraged himself through science. He was playing the game of life at a higher level. He could do things he couldn't do before. And he had a level of control over his life beyond what he'd ever experienced before. He became fascinated by the fact that you can take two key scientific principles and so materially impact one's success and achievement in life. John ultimately had enough money so he didn't have to work. He was then asked by the former Chancellor and president at the University of Texas to teach this methodology at the school's TOP 5 in the country business school. John then taught his 12 minute a day methodology to the athletic director at the University of Texas. Which led to becoming the mental coach for the 18 head coaches at the University of Texas. Along this journey John also taught his 12 minute a day methodology to Kelly Hatfield. Transformed her life as well. Doubled her income and impacted her quality of life big time. Reduced stress, impacted her health, and impacted her marriage. John talks about how most people are just winging life. They don't have an actual way of doing life. And therefore they can't overcome the inherent problem we all face when we open our eyes each morning. We are innately wired for survival. Which causes 70% of our thoughts to be fear-based and we're reactive rather than proactive on our important agenda. Consider your own morning routine. Are you doing anything to impact your mindset? If you are not, you're just winging life. Because at the end of the day, the thoughts going on in your head on an ongoing basis to determine both your level of achievement as well as enjoyment of life. John and Kelly talk about how this 12 minute a day methodology, which is applying the central concept of the top book the world on success to one's life, gives a person a true superpower. A level of control over yourself beyond what you've ever experienced. Because the methodology involves feeding the succinct articulation of your life yourself each day. Exactly the person you want to be, exactly what you want to accomplish, and precisely how you're can achieve your clearly defined goals. Once you establish that clarity, you put it on the Think It Be It Life GPS template developed by John over 20 years. It allows a person to apply science to their lives to leverage themselves....
The day that Kelly Hatfield interviewed John on her podcast, she became intrigued in his 12 minute a day methodology. Implementing this she received transformative results that doubled her income in just a few short months. This is Kelly's story about her transformation and how she and John partnered in their human performance company, Think It Be It. Scaling Your Business From Zero to 8-Figures Within 5 Years, with Kelly Hatfield In this episode, our guest is Kelly Hatfield, business owner, coach, and host of Net 7: Exceptional Life Podcast. Kelly will share her experiences in launching multiple businesses, the in-betweens, and other enlightening things she discovered throughout the process. Stay tuned! Humble Beginnings [01:15] Kelly dreamed of being an entrepreneur. She didn't start her first business until she was 36. She used to be like most people who were working normal jobs. She jumped from one job to the next, never finding what she was looking for, but she learned a lot. Eventually, she landed a job in the recruiting industry, where she worked for almost 14 years before starting her own business. Starting the Business [06:15] She and her eventual business partner broke ties with the companies they worked for because they knew they could do it better on their own. But they weren't expecting the 2008 crash. Leaving your Comfort Zone [11:11] You need to be aware that the whole idea of change and being uncomfortable is your brain telling you to stay safe and comfortable in your comfort zone. It will keep making excuses just to keep you there, no matter how invalid they are. Throwing obstacles your way will be one of the things your brain will do. You must overcome them all and leave anyway. Sacrifices [17:52] Kelly had a safety net in the form of money. To make ends meet, it was necessary to make sacrifices. She intended to work for free for the first year. They did, however, use that time to develop relationships and learn more about business-related topics. It took them 11 months to make their first dollar, and another year to become self-sufficient. By the fifth year, they were earning eight figures. Kelly advises staying focused, doing the right things, and making small steps forward each day. Absolute Advantage Leadership [30:08] The Absolute Advantage Leadership was born as a result of dependence and listening to customers. Kelly helps companies with high-performance training and development; she says it's one of her passion projects. Book Recommendation [36:17] Kelly recommends the book The E-Myth: Why Most Businesses Don't Work and What To Do About it. It talks about the difference between starting a business with the knowledge and experience you learned and wanting to create a new job for yourself and just wanting to do it because of your love for that specific career in the first place. Knowing What You Want [45:23] Kelly explains that the first thing you need to start with is clarity. You have to know what you want and why you want it. Is it something you're interested in? Are you committed to making a change to get there? Kelly's Advice [54:01] If you're having second thoughts and it's always been your dream to have you own business, Kelly says you should start taking action. You must decide whether it is something you are interested in or want to do and be willing to commit to doing it. To grow, you must push yourself. Erik Salzenstein’s story is one that truly shows the power of change and what’s possible. From greed and addiction to purpose and fulfillment. Erik found himself facing life in prison, with his back against the wall where he finally had to face his worst enemy up until that point…himself. What stands out that he had to go to prison to find freedom and realized he was in his own prison long before actually being behind bars. He then went on to spend 4 years relentlessly pursuing personal growth, coaching, speaking, running workshops and even being published in a newspaper all while in prison. He developed a 4 step process using the acronym ROCK that allowed him to tap into his full potential and develop the ROCK solid foundation needed to transform and build his life on. He’s since used this process with much success to his clients lives. Erik is a powerful and sought out speaker and transformational coach who shares his signature talk “From Prison to Prosperity” and takes people through his ROCK process and helps them break free from the constructs of their own prison. — Erik Salzenstein was facing life in prison at just 23 years old, but as his freedom was being ripped away, Erik realized that he was never free in the first place. None of his decisions were made in a heightened state of mind because fear, doubt, and insecurity fueled his M.O. The deeper he crawled into that hole, the higher the stakes became, and Erik finally realized that to grow as a human being, he had to believe that he could achieve something more. At that point, he was able to embark on a journey of personal transformation, bringing as many others as he could along with him. By tapping into his own experience of self-discovery, Erik could help others step into their greater selves by making choices that align with their core values and beliefs. In this episode of the Absolute Advantage podcast, Erik Salzenstein joins host Kelly Hatfield to share his story and talk about helping people understand who they really are so they can make decisions that embody the best version of that. He is a loving and devoted father to wife and four children. Jonathan is extremely committed to personal development and self-improvement, and he stays active with mountain/water sports, spin, and hiking. — With a background that instilled concrete values and a strong moral compass, Jonathan Keyser had a difficult decision to make when he entered the world of commercial real estate. It wasn’t necessarily that Keyser had ill will, he just didn’t know how else to succeed in that industry other than to become a ruthless prick. After years of clawing his way up the food chain with one self-serving act after another, Keyser eventually attended a conference that flipped his perspective on building relationships by revealing the success that can result from helping people. Keyser is not hustling an instant-gratification, get-rich-quick scheme. His methodology focuses on creating long-term, sustainable success by nurturing relationships through selfless service. It was a grueling transition for him to make, but Keyser is a completely different person now. He is the founder of a commercial real estate brokerage that is built on the principle of succeeding by helping others succeed, and he trains all of his team members to live out that value in all facets of their lives. In this episode of the Absolute Advantage podcast, Jonathan Keyser joins host Kelly Hatfield to share his journey and discuss the challenges and successes he experienced on the path of selfless service. Kathleen loves her job. Her mission is to inspire as many people as possible to adopt (in an intelligent way) a healthier lifestyle and to make healthier choices because they love themselves, not because they hate themselves. Kathleen does not believe in body shame. Kathleen does believe in goals and results. She does not believe in being easy on yourself or letting negative brain propaganda win. She does believe in self-compassion and holding yourself accountable. Kathleen does not believe in being active to create a whole new you. Kathleen does believe in being you, but working toward creating a you who has more healthy habits. She believes in learning and growing, passion, gratitude, and actively finding pockets of joy. Most important, Kathleen believes in actively creating the version of yourself that you want to be, and that the key to health success is finding YOUR fit hence the name of her first book, Finding Your Fit. — Kathleen Trotter is a speaker, author, and media personality set out to help people ‘find their fit,’ but this process requires a lot more involvement than starting a diet or getting a gym membership. Unless you are willing to act to change, your future self is just going to be a version of your current self. Trotter’s approach focuses on making fundamental changes to your mindset in order to prioritize self-care and become the best possible version of yourself. It is all about small wins because your health and well being is just an aggregate of every decision you make in the moment. If you can assign more value to health and exercise, you will be able to make small adjustments in real-time that make a significant difference in the long run. You cannot effectively lead others if you are not leading yourself first, and by taking Trotter’s initiative you can start to replenish your energy, self-confidence, and overall happiness that will see a major shift at work and in the household. The growth mindset assumes that there is no experience good or bad as long as you learn from it. In this episode of Absolute Advantage, Trotter joins host Kelly Hatfield to talk about creating a system to hold yourself accountable and grow as an individual in your pursuit of better health. A healthy culture is essential when it comes to the success of your organization and your employees. In this episode, learn how to change or improve your company’s culture for the better. After all, culture is the language of your organization. We also talk about the ripple effect, which is how the actions of leaders ripple into the organization and beyond. As a leader, you are responsible for establishing a healthy and prosperous culture for your organization. A major aspect of this responsibility involves establishing a sense of clarity surrounding the culture of their organization. This includes being as clear as possible about their business’ culture when it comes to the hiring process. After all, “fit” when it comes to the company’s dominant culture is a major predictor of whether a new employee will thrive within an organization. During this episode, we talk about the consequences that a leader and business may face for failing to establish this sense of clarity. Unfortunately, many leaders fail to live by the values posted on the wall in their office. We also discuss how leaders can live and lead according to their values. Culture refers to the values that are acknowledged and celebrated by your organization. April encourages leaders to focus on developing a healthy company culture above all. Jeremy Slate is the founder of the Create Your Own Life Podcast, which helps entrepreneurs live the lives they know they were meant to. He studied literature at Oxford University, specializes in using online social networking to build an offline relationship, and was ranked #1 in iTunes New and Noteworthy and #26 in the business category. After his success in podcasting, Jeremy Slate and his wife, Brielle Slate, founded Command Your Brand to help entrepreneurs get their message out by appearing as guests on podcasts. ----- I’m so grateful that you’ve joined me here today. I’m Kelly Hatfield, and as always, my goal is that you’ll walk away from this episode with one strategy, idea, or insight that inspires you to take action in your professional and personal life. I know you’re going to get that from Jeremy Ryan Slate. Jeremy and I talked about how being a guest on podcasts can really pay off. Let’s face it: being a regular guest on podcasts is a major time commitment, and as business leaders, we don’t have the time to waste on things that aren’t going to add value to the bottom line. But podcasts give you access to people’s lives in ways that you’d never have before. Because people listen to podcasts when they’re driving, working out at the gym, etc, they don’t have to be sitting down at their computer in order to find you. Not only that, but when you make a guest appearance on a podcast, you get access to the host’s built-in audience. So then, as business owners, we have to ask…if being on someone’s podcast gives us access to more people, how do we monetize being a guest so that it grows our businesses? Jeremy has a great strategy for that. His business is built around helping entrepreneurs monetize their podcast appearances by creating value and building relationships. In the episode, you’ll learn how to offer listeners of podcasts value both in your interview and long after it’s complete through strategies like building a value-adding email sequence. He’s even offering you a checklist for how to be a great guest — absolutely free! Click here to download it. Being a guest on podcasts is one of many ways to market your business, and Jeremy’s strategy is a great reminder that it’s foolish to go into any of them without a solid plan. How you are going to add value has to be top of mind in any marketing strategy, and once you’ve added value, you will be able to convert those people into customers. Thank you for listening today! Stephen is the CEO of Predictive ROI and the host of the Onward Nation podcast. He is the author of two bestselling books, speaker, trainer, and his digital marketing insights have been featured in SUCCESS, Entrepreneur, The Washington Post, Forbes, Inc. Magazine, and other media. Good Morning Onward Nation...I’m Stephen Woessner. And welcome to Episode 317 -- where 5-days a week -- I interview one of today’s top business owners so we can learn their “recipe for success” -- how they built and scaled their business. But on Wednesday’s each week...I record what I like to call a solocast -- where I fly solo for an episode -- just me -- no guest. And this gives us the opportunity to really dig deep into a particular topic or lesson -- and take the time to get super tactical where cover vital priorities like lead gen, sales pipelines, how to defeat the imposter syndrome, and even how to recruit A-players into your company. Speaking of which -- thank you very much, Onward Nation for all of the feedback regarding Episode 298, my solocast from a couple of weeks ago that I named, “How to Fill Your Sales Pipeline.” Episode 298 was my longest solocast to date -- but -- I did that because I wanted to tackle a chronic problem most business owners are facing. And that problem is the lack of qualified leads flowing into their sales pipeline. It has become a gaping hole inside most businesses. In fact, the Content Marketing Institute and MarketingProfs recently published a study concluding that the top goal of 85 percent of companies today is lead generation. Yes, 85 percent Onward Nation. Staggering! So, I was really pleased to read all of the wonderful feedback we received following 298 -- Awesome! And I have to say...your feedback...inspired my team and me so much that we decided to go even deeper and create a FREE 17-page Quick Start Guide on How to Fill Your Sales Pipeline. Just go to OnwardNation.com/Pipeline and you can download it for FREE. Katherine and Louie on my team did an outstanding job creating the guide -- thanks guys -- and my hope is that you and your team will find it helpful as you work through the recipe I shared in Episode 298. And as always -- if you have questions -- let us know -- and remember -- my direct email address is stephen@onwardnation.com. I read and reply to every single email. Please let me know what you think -- thumbs up or thumbs down. So for today’s solocast -- I am going to do something a little different by continuing the momentum we started last week. Instead of me sharing or teaching a step-by-step lesson per se -- I am going to re-introduce you to Kelly Hatfield, our great guest for Episode 274. Shortly after Kelly was my guest -- she invited me to be a guest on her podcast, Absolute Advantage...and that was an outstanding conversation. The leadership lessons Kelly and I exchanged were insightful -- and -- I think I might even surprise you, Onward Nation when you hear me encourage you to “Let your team kick you out of projects” and why this is critical to scaling your business. Kelly and I also dug into: The lessons of parenting that can be used when running a company How to find “A Players” and recruit them into an internship program The improvements my team and I have had to make to our employee onboarding process due to previous failures in that area Why overnight success is a myth How to retain your best talent Why you need to be completely transparent with your mentors What separates the super-high achievers from the rest I thought the best way for me to share these insights would be to air the full interview. I think you will get a lot out of the discussion. And as always...please let me know what you think. One point that I want to make sure I emphasize before we close out for today -- during my conversation with Kelly -- you heard me talk about how we have built our Predictive ROI team from the “Draft” -- we have built our team through a powerful internship program. And over the last 20+ years...I have had many business owners -- even colleagues -- tell me that an unpaid internship program is not possible -- that it can’t be done -- that it is wrong to do -- or -- if you do attract candidates -- they won’t be the best candidates. I am here to say -- that none of that is accurate. If you’re interested in having a rock solid awesome internship program at your company -- a program that delivers great value to your business -- AND -- delivers an amazing educational experience for your interns -- then take a listen to Episode 137 of Onward Nation. I shared the complete recipe we have developed and used to build our internship program. My hope is that the recipe will save you some time and add some value to your process. So with that...I want to say thank you again for taking the time to be here with me today. It is an honor to have you here -- thank you for tuning in -- I am delighted you chose this episode to be what you listen to, study, and take with you on your morning run, or maybe Onward Nation has become part of your daily commute, or in some other way has become part of your morning routine. I want you to know how much I appreciate you sharing some of your invaluable 86,400 seconds you have in your day with me and the strategies we learn and share each day from today’s top business owners. And please continue to let me know what you think of Onward Nation...good or bad...I always want your feedback. Hit me up on Twitter or LinkedIn -- or stop by our Predictive ROI Facebook page -- and let us know what you think of the show -- thumbs up or thumbs down. Either way -- we want to know. Your feedback helps get better. And remember...you can always email me at stephen@onwardnation.com and I reply to every single message. Please let us know how you think we are doing. I look forward to hearing from you. We will be back tomorrow with an incredible encore interview with Ari Weinzweig -- you will not want to miss Ari’s philosophy and strategy behind how to defeat what he calls the self-fulfilling belief cycle. He will take you deep inside his research and application into these principles and how they add value to their 700 employee, $60 million operation in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ari is off-the-charts amazing, Onward Nation! Don’t miss it. Until then, onward with gusto!
