Kelly and Joann have been together for about 18 years, and they do something every year that has just really been inspiring to me. They go on a mission trip to Guatemala to help others in need. On the podcast today, Kelly and Joann are going to share about the process of how they came together as business owners, how they implemented and embraced this mission trip, and how they look forward to it every year. Honestly, the longer we stay in our luxury ways and luxury businesses, the more we become accustomed to that, and it's important, I'm not saying any of it's wrong, it's just a very different view. The beauty that I think you have, in your perspective, is you've seen both. Michele 33:30    Get uncomfortable, put yourself in that place, and go help somebody. Let them be a blessing to you because it'll change the way you deal with other people, the way you approach your business, the way you calm your anxieties, and how you are always chasing that gap that ideal that you'll never get and cause you to relax. It'll help you. Kelly 34:29    You know, to look back at that house, it's almost like when we're there, you're kind of on autopilot. You're not sitting here thinking about, oh, I'm hungry, you're just doing it. You're with the group and everybody's doing it and it just kind of happens. It's really amazing. It really is, and I urge people to try to do it. Joann 38:30    I say that because sometimes for people who have never done this, this feels so big and so overwhelming, and like there needs to be so much that happens to be ready. That it really is about creating it the same way as if it is a personal vacation. It gets put on the calendar, you plan up to it, you work around it, and you keep going. When I met Kelly Lester at the NRB Convention in March, I knew I had to have her on the podcast! At that time, I only knew one part of her story. It was only the beginning! Kelly talks about her own personal abortion story, working in an abortion clinic and how that transformed her life into where she is today.  She is now helping women coming out of that line of work and dedicating her life to fighting against abortion, while loving the women healing from their own experiences.  This episode talks about a lot of different sensitive subjects and is so important to share with the people around you! "Kelly, you got that one, too, the A-OK one Gene. Lactose intolerance, too, as well. You don't make this enzyme very well called lactase. Remember, it's an enzyme ends in a chop, chop chop that breaks down the big giant molecule of dairy, cow's milk. The problem with cow's milk is the molecule is huge. And you're trying to put it's like trying to push your elephant through your bedroom door for folks that have these issues. They drink milk or have ice cream, which I love, unfortunately. And the problem is the molecule is too big to fit through the cells to get into your bloodstream, and it causes digestive disruption. Kelly would benefit from taking lactase digestive enzymes if she does want to have dairy." "I think we can never, always prepare, but we can have a playbook for ourselves. And if we can stay pretty close to that playbook, we're going to get to those results. We're going to lose weight. We're going to hold on to that. And I think your life, what you did in the past, you know, not eating or doing the twelve hundred calorie approach, you're doing this like shape thing like what's your relationship with food look like? Right.If you came from a background of dance gymnastics or like, man, you're so fixated on that. OK, I wave my one today and you're a size zero that you wanted to be or you weigh the one twenty. What in your life changes to day? Once we do that, nothing, nothing changes. You fit in those jeans. But guess what? You still got to go to work. You still might have a boss you don't like. You don't say so. So I really think a lot of those things, you know, we have to shift it. It's not if I lose weight, I'll be happy. It's if I'm happy, I'll lose weight. Right, right. Right. Well, I think it's it it is it's that like it's all encompassing. I think health goes into so many different wheels of life, like, are you in a financially good spot? I mean, you've had like some in-depth conversations together on it. And that's such something that we don't we don't work on where we're at. We've lost sight line to it. Right. The emotional health that like, are we fulfilled? Yes. And and I think coaches like what fills our bucket is filling others. But we have to make sure we set those bounds, too, because we'll run ourselves to the ground." "If you are someone who always feels like you “fail” at the things you set out to do, you must read on because …you are not a failure..here’s why. There is something in our brain that is called the RAS. The Reticular Activating System. The RAS is a bundle of nerves at our brainstem that filters out unnecessary information so the important stuff gets through. For example, the RAS is the reason you learn a new word and then start hearing it everywhere.... In the same way, the RAS seeks information that “validates” your beliefs even those that aren’t serving us and we want to rid of. Your brain always wants to be “right” which is why you will always have this internal struggle. You know when you hear your inner voice say “well maybe it’s not that bad after all”... your brain is trying to convince you to “just stay where you are..it’s easier” ... In addition to that we could also go down the ego rabbit hole as well. The ego is very “fear based” - doesn’t like “change” so therefore taking the leap of faith to change often never happens because your beliefs are also being validated by your RAS."   In this episode of Master Your Mindset and Metabolism I share something about your brain that you may have never heard of...The Reticular Activating System. "This is where it hits our behavior patterns, how we respond to our triggers, this is everything. So the word neurotransmitters, neuro means nerves. Transmitters means how they transmit information. They're just wires with connections, so all the messages start in your brain or they start in your gut and then they zap across the wire and they go through your body and they tell your body what to do, what they tell it to go down, that they they turn and exciting things. They turn them on or they inhibit things and they turn them off. That's what your whole body basically is. You're a walking electrical chemical reaction. What makes it possible is things called neurotransmitters in some common ones would be like dopamine. A lot of people have heard of dopamine, people they call illicit drugs dope because it stimulates dopamine receptors. People who use crystal meth, heroin, cocaine, they're artificially stimulating dopamine receptors and they feel OK, feel great. I'm first for short periods of time, but then there's a heavy price to pay. So again, what you're seeing is those are some type of neurotransmitters that turn things down, that mellow you out, make you not feel anxious or depressed or anxiety or OCD or ATP or anything. Make you feel groovy. Right. Dopamine serotonin makes you go to sleep and stay asleep. And big surprise, digest your food properly. There's other stuff called GABA, too, as well. We've heard about other neurotransmitters, too, like adrenaline, also known as epinephrine. That cranks things up. It helps us deal with things. It helps the mother with the child pinned under the car, flip the car over and save the child. And that stuff really does happen. That's what the body's able to do" In this episode of Master Your Mindset and Metabolism, I had the pleasure of having the most amazing conversation with the brilliant, Dr. Daniel Farkas, a chiropractor and functional medicine doctor, who specializes in gut health, neurotransmitters, and genetics. And when you have your cell phone, like my son would always say, Mom, you've got so many apps open and he would take it and slide him up or to close down. Right. We're subconsciously we have these stories and these beliefs that we're continuously tapping into because they're running in the background, because we haven't really tuned in to really listen and hear what it is that we're telling ourself." This particular episode is day 2 where I talk about neurotransmitters. In this episode I talk about all things neurotransmitters! Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers in the brain that control breathing, digestion, and heart. Even mood, motivation, and sleep quality. Dopamine, Acetycholine, GABA, and Sertonin are the 4 major neurotransmitters discussed. If you have cravings, trouble sleeping, and or lack of motivation, this episode is for you! In this episode we talk all things metabolism, what works and what doesn't, the Hypothalamus, Pituitary, and Adrenal Glands and why what you THINK is the answer to a healthy metabolism is actually hindering your results. As well as the hormones that matter the most such as Insulin, Leptin, and Cortisol.  Some of the issues covered in the episode are: Problem - Hungry all the. time - Leptin hormone could be the issue - leptin is created by fat cells in the body   Problem - Can't sleep (insomnia) - potential cortisol issue - so look at lifestyle habits  on how to reduce stress - or could also be a progesterone issue - get levels checked     Problem - Can't lose weight - stress  too high cortisol issue - could be being brought on by the lifestyle stressors I had mentioned such as not eating enough, not sleeping enough, too much exercise, etc / could also possibly be an insulin issue - body could be less insulin sensitive than it once was. I have discovered that there are important moments when we have to fight for what we KNOW God wants for us. Jesus said in John 10:10 that He came to give us “life to the fullest” but that doesn’t mean our lives will be free of attacks - it means we have to put our “game faces” on! There are nights and early mornings when we must declare the truth of what Jesus did for us, and the truth of who Jesus is through us, over every doubt and fear the devil sends our way. We are new creations through Christ who have been re-created for faith, bravery, and victory! It can’t get more abundant than that! Today, let’s unpack what it means to win at life in a very practical way. In previous episodes of this series I have shared how to seek the goodness God has for us. This episode, however, is about finding the courage to hold onto the goodness we have already found. I pray this empowers you!
