On this episode of The Cricket Podcast we continue with our IPL 2024 Team Previews. This episode is a big one, featuring three of the biggest franchises in the Indian Premier League: Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders. Are any of them contenders for this year's IPL title. Chennai Super Kings go into this year after winning the tournament last year. MS Dhoni is still in charge and with players like Jadeja, Chahar, Moeen Ali, the Dube and more backing him up they look like they could be a threat to win the IPL again. Can they secure another championship or might this be one tournament to far for the legendary Dhoni? Royal Challengers Bangalore made a big trade before the auction, picking up Cameron Green to bolster their batting. Along with the acquisition of Alzarri Joseph they seem like they could have improved for this year's IPL. However, there are weaknesses in other areas of the team and their bowling, in particular, looks like it could come under pressure. Will RCB be able to pull it together and finally deliver Virat Kohli the title he wants? Finally we talk Kolkata Knight Riders. They feature an exciting batting line up with Rinku Singh, Andre Russell and now Phil Salt providing serious firepower to their batting card. Backed up by a spin trio lead by Narine they could be a real handful with the ball too, especially if we see Mitchell Starc hit his stride. Could they be the dark horses for the IPL title? Danica Patrick Pretty Intense Podcast

With a win in the season finale at Phoenix Raceway, Kyle Larson etched his name in the record books as the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion. Paired with crew chief Cliff Daniels, Larson won five of 10 playoff races and 10 total points-paying events to secure his first Cup title in his seventh full-time season and first with 14-time Cup champions Hendrick Motorsports. During Larson's career-best season, the driver of the No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet paced the field 2,581 times – the most in a season since four-time Cup Series champion and now Vice Chairman of Hendrick Motorsports Jeff Gordon led 2,610 laps in 1995. Larson posted career-best numbers in victories (10), top-five finishes (20), top-10s (26), laps led (2,581), average start (6.1) and stage victories (18) – all tops in NASCAR's premier series in 2021. Larson also won $1 million with his victory in the annual non-points NASCAR All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway. Including dirt-track races, Larson won 34 percent of the races he competed in 2021 with 33 victories across 97 events. Among those victories were his first trips to victory lane in the prestigious Knoxville Nationals and Kings Royal sprint car events, Larson's first win in the Prairie Dirt Classic dirt late model race and his second consecutive victory in Chili Bowl Midget Nationals. The 16-time Cup race winner is half Japanese and the only Asian-American to regularly compete in NASCAR. He is the first NASCAR Drive for Diversity graduate to race full-time at the Cup level and now serves as a mentor for the program. Since 2018, he has been a volunteer with the Urban Youth Racing School in Philadelphia, which helps expose students of color to motor sports. In May 2020, Larson also began working with the Minneapolis-based Sanneh Foundation to advance diversity, equity and community well-being. Last March, Larson announced the launch of the Kyle Larson Foundation (KyleLarsonFoundation.org), which was established to better serve today's youth, families and communities in need through hands-on support. The Sanneh Foundation and the Urban Youth Racing School are the primary beneficiaries of the foundation, which also works closely with Hendrick Cares, the corporate social responsibility program of Hendrick Automotive Group. To kickstart the “Drive for 5,” Larson pledged a personal donation of $5 for every Cup Series lap he completed last season and contributed another $5,000 for every top-five finish for a total of $145,000. The Elk Grove, California, native has won more than 250 events across a variety of sanctioning bodies and vehicle styles. Larson began driving at age 7 and has raced stock cars, winged and non-winged sprint cars, dirt late models, karts, trucks, and sports cars. In 2012, Larson was signed by Earnhardt Ganassi Racing as a developmental driver. He secured two victories, eight top-five finishes and 12 top-10s in 14 races en route to winning the championship in the K&N Pro Series East, a feeder circuit to NASCAR's national-level touring .

You'll hear their thoughts, plus an interview with Dave Argabright, who co-authored Doty's autobiography Still Wide Open, as well as the man himself, Brad Doty. Craig Clunas‘s new book explores the significance of members of the imperial clan, or “kings” in Ming China. A king was established in a “state” (guo), and mapping the Ming in terms of guo‘s is a way of mapping Ming space in units that had centers, but not boundaries. (In having many guo‘s, the Ming thus had many centers.) A wonderfully and productively revisionist account of Ming history and its artifacts, Screen of Kings: Royal Art and Power in Ming China (University of Hawaii Press and Reaktion Books, 2013) explores this poly-centric kingly landscape as evidenced by documentary and archaeological traces of material production, while paying special attention to the history of practices that did not leave abundant traces. In doing so, Clunas shifts our attention in several ways. In addition to reorienting our focus to kingly figures in the Ming (an often-overlooked but deeply significant historical group), Screen of Kings also moves us away from the oft-trod historiographical territory of the Jiangnan region and toward regions that boasted a significant kingly presence but don’t usually earn a significant place in our histories of Ming China. The kingly cityscapes in Clunas’s beautifully-written book are full of buildings, gardens, tombs, calligraphic texts, paintings, jewelry, poems, bronzes, and musical instruments. The book situates these objects in an innovative way, emphasizing the importance of Ming kingly courts as sites of cultural innovation, production, and reproduction, and of kings as producers, collectors, and patrons of the arts. This is a must-read for anyone interested in Ming history, the history of the arts in China, histories of locality, or the history of relationships between art and power more broadly conceived.
