This talk was originally presented on April 16, 1993 in Frederick, MD. This recording is a result of our work digitizing over 600 cassette tapes of Elisabeth's talks. Each tape is decades old and the quality of the recordings varies quite a bit from tape to tape. As we preserve Elisabeth's legacy, we will share as much of her work as possible, even when technical issues affect the quality of the audio. Each talk is unique in content and tone. All are a blessing and encouragement. --- Music: John Hanson

Earlier this week, a nonprofit watchdog filed a complaint asking Louisiana's Attorney General to investigate whether a crisis pregnancy center in New Iberia broke state law. The pregnancy center allegedly posted clients' personal information online, despite claiming that it follows federal health privacy laws.WWNO/WRKF broke the story, and reporter Rosemary Westwood joins us for more.About half of jobs in New Orleans are considered “mid-skill.” That means you need a high school degree, but probably not a bachelor's. It's good news for teenagers who don't want to go to college, or who are ready to just start working. Education reporter Aubri Juhasz visits a career center that's preparing kids for all kinds of jobs that don't require college education. The Upstairs Lounge fire in New Orleans in 1973 remains one of the country's deadliest attacks on the LGBTQ community. In the decades since, a bronze plaque in the French Quarter has listed the 32 victims who died when an arsonist set fire to the neighborhood gay bar.But earlier this year, that plaque was stolen. A New Orleans man has been caught and arrested. But the original marker remains missing. Now a group of local activists is working to get a new memorial installed at the Upstairs Lounge site. WWNO and WRKF's Matt Bloom spoke with Frank Perez, one of their leaders. —Today's episode of Louisiana Considered was hosted by Adam Vos. Our managing producer is Alana Schreiber. Our theme for these next few weeks is “The Heart of God”. Throughout this series we will be highlighting a few of the missions we support here at Berea. Our family at Berea has a heart for missions. We have partnered with 17 different missions ranging from East Asia to right here in Brazil. It is incredible to see the ways that God is reaching people in need through these different ministries! But we long to be more than just a donor to these missions. We want to know them. We want to know their heart for God and the ways in which they are sharing the love of God with those they are reaching out to. We desire to have a relationship with every one of the missions we support. This week we will be sharing with you a ministry based in Terre Haute. You might have even seen their mobile unit right here in Brazil. It is the Crisis Pregnancy Center of the Wabash Valley. This ministry's mission to is support and encourage women and even the potential fathers who find themselves expecting a child and are uncertain what to do. This is a very important ministry that works every day to save the lives of the most vulnerable in our society and provide resources for expectant and new parents to provide for their child. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/escape-urself-podcast/support

Since Roe v. Wade was effectively overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court, putting abortion laws in the hands of states, crisis pregnancy centers have gotten a lot of attention around the country.
For several years now, the Republican leadership of the North Carolina legislature has appropriated millions of dollars to the state's network of so-called crisis pregnancy centers. The centers give the impression that they provide healthcare services, but critics argue that they do no such thing. Recently, in an effort to learn more about these groups […]
After an assassination attempt last weekend sent former President Donald Trump to the hospital with minor injuries, the Republican National Convention went off with little mention of health care issues. And Trump's newly nominated vice presidential pick, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, has barely staked out a record on health during his 18 months in office — aside from being strongly opposed to abortion. Alice Miranda Ollstein of Politico, Sarah Karlin-Smith of the Pink Sheet, and Joanne Kenen of Johns Hopkins University and Politico Magazine join KFF Health News' Julie Rovner to discuss these stories and more. Also this week, Rovner interviews KFF Health News' Renuka Rayasam, who wrote June's installment of KFF Health News-NPR “Bill of the Month,” about a patient who walked into what he thought was an urgent care center and walked out with an emergency room bill. Preconceived tells the stories of Maleeha and Maria, just two of the thousands of people who have been deceived by coercive anti-abortion propaganda mills known as crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs). As the film follows these protagonists, it sheds light on the deceptive practices deployed by CPCs, investigates the funding streams that fuel their spread, and raises urgent questions about how to combat disinformation in a post-Dobbs era. On March 3, Don begins a new series “Moving Toward Resurrection Day.” This week he brings a message called, On the Cross — Forsaken and Victorious, from Psalm 22. We will also have the Lord's Supper at the end of the service, with a Benevolence Offering to benefit the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Virginia Beach. FYI, we will have a special guest from the CPC with us on March 17. Remember next week's schedule change due to Winter Shelter.

From the chaotic streets of a fatherless childhood to the hard knocks of an NFL training camp Otto Kelly made one major decision - he would be the dad that stays. A celebrated college football career put Otto in the middle of the spotlight … it could have gone either way. How does a man react when faced with heavy choices? Otto Kelly shares with us what character does in the midst of pressure and temptation. Otto Kelly is a significant voice of hope and reason in navigating today’s chaotic culture. He has won NAACP awards for his work with young men at risk, he was the Executive Director of the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Reno, Nevada for fifteen years, has an outreach called “Sons to Men” and is also Vice-President of the Global Fatherhood Initiative. Listen in as my good friend Otto Kelly, a dynamic minister, author, and influential speaker, joins me to uncover the life-altering power life in Christ. Our heartfelt discussion navigates the critical role of faith and fatherhood in fostering societal change. As we reflect on Otto's journey from athlete to the executive director of the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Reno, we shed light on the profound effects of mentorship, responsibility, and the Global Fatherhood Initiative's mission to combat the root causes of poverty. Our heartfelt discussion doesn't shy away from the tough topics—confronting the "father wound" many face and exploring the healing that faith can bring. By sharing personal stories and insights, Otto and I expose how the absence or presence of a father figure can shape lives. We also celebrate the way sports and family values intertwine to sculpt our sense of self. The episode is a testament to the idea that every individual has the potential to rise above adversity, guided by the steadfast hand of God, faith in Christ and a sense of identity - fueling their inherent worth and purpose. Well, well, it's not every day your Buzzkills are graced with a MacArthur Genius fellow, but today is NOT one of those days! Dr. Diana Foster Greene is in the pod house talking about her award-winning research paper, The Turnaway Study, which is a comprehensive look at the harms caused by folks being denied abortion care. It is incredible. Lizz is out on the film festival circuit with the AAF documentary No One Asked You, so our intrepid news dumper Alyssa “Dooks” Al-Dookhi is holding it down with Moji, and they are digging deeper into the biggest stories of the week. There is righteous news from pro-choice South Carolina politicians who are trolling the menz who passed their neanderthal abortion bans. Their new bill demands the state to pay for EVERY SINGLE COST associated with pregnancy. It is the energy we need to see across all these states where barbarians mind the gate. Also, WOOF! Crisis pregnancy centers, or “CPCs,” are anti-abortion organizations that target pregnant people with predatory, deceptive marketing. Their main function is to attract and intercept Black, brown, Indigenous, and low-income people before they access abortion care. Their goal is ideological, not medical: They want to prevent pregnant people from obtaining abortion services using any means necessary, including by using delay tactics, disinformation, and deception. With nearly a hundred CPCs in Minnesota, they outnumber abortion clinics by about 10:1. This week Special Projects Advisor Erin Maye Quade and Organizer Jay Belsito talk with our guests, Olivia Crull and Carolyn Handke from the grassroots Minnesota Abortion Action Committee, about the harm that CPCs pose to our community. What can be done to expose them, limit their reach, and stop the deception? Today's weather in our nation's capital was mostly patriarchy with scattered showers of dude-splaining, because today was the 50th annual MARCH FOR LIFE, the country's biggest gathering of anti-abortion dickbags! Your Feminist Buzzkills watched so you don't have to and we are naming, shaming, exposing and dragging the whole thing for filth, just the way we always do. Did they try to appear like compassionate and reasonable uterus-policing ogres now that they know just how much America is against them? Or did they just double down on the extremism? And what are they planning for 2024? WE ANSWER THOSE QUESTIONS and so much more.To break it all down, we brought in one of the best in the biz, AAF's very own Extremist Whisperer, Kristin Hady. She helps cut through all the BS and gives y'all the inside scoop on all the players involved in this year's Oppressionpallooza. PLUS, Dr. Grace Howard is here! Grace literally wrote the book on the Pregnancy Police, i.e. all the ways the fascists want to criminalize and control every pregnancy. We're blabbing with her on the criminalization of pregnant people post-Roe, how there are no “havens,” and what we can do to shut down the policing of pregnant people. As I sit across from my daughter Carla Beasley, her passion for aiding those in crisis is palpable, a sentiment that resonates throughout our latest episode of More Than Medicine. Together, we explore the pivotal role of Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs), highlighting Carla's firsthand experiences at the Carolina Pregnancy Center. From providing free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds to the transformative Earn While You Learn program, these faith-based organizations stand as pillars of support for women and families, embodying the spirit of Sanctity of Human Life Month. Listeners will be moved by the personal narratives of those impacted and the incredible community support that flows from initiatives like the diaper drive-through, a testament to the unwavering commitment of CPCs during trying times.Carla's stories of teenage girls navigating the complexities of pregnancy and the allure of abortion cast a profound light on the vital work CPCs accomplish. We reflect on the journeys of these courageous young women and the compassionate, relentless outreach that often leads to life-affirming decisions. The episode wraps with a glimpse into the future, discussing our exciting move to a new location near the USC Upstate campus, which will enable us to deepen our mission. The culture of fear that the anti-abortion movement uses also underlines the anti-queer and anti-transgender movement. Garnet Henderson, Senior Multiplatform Reporter for Rewire News Group and host and producer of ACCESS: A Podcast About Abortion, sits down to talk with us about how these two movements are connected and how anti-rights actors may influence access to gender-affirming care in the near future. A year since the dismantling of Roe v. Wade, 25 million women of reproductive age now and more nonbinary and transgender people live in states where the law increases barriers to abortion care. And, across the U.S. this year alone, 583 bills have been introduced in 49 states which are designed to block trans people from receiving healthcare, education, and other basic rights. Harassment and threats against healthcare providers, misinformation and disinformation, and fear-laden rhetoric are all increasingly overlapping elements of the anti-abortion and anti-trans movement. Using these tools, a collection of anti-rights actors are able to influence legislation, spread false information, and impact people's access to basic healthcare. This episode picks up where we left off in 1973, when the supreme court decided abortion was a constitutional right. In 2022 they undecided it, and in the interim conservative lawmakers did their best to restrict and ban safe abortions :( Includes discussion of the real 'Jane Roe', Crisis Pregnancy Centers (bad), and the actual reason people are so vehemently anti-abortion.

Big pod this week, diving right in! Soooo remember how Kansas voted to protect abortion access in a landslide ballot initiative? Guess that didn't matter to the anti-abortion babadooks in the Kansas legislature. Ever since that win, they have FOUR DIFFERENT abortion restrictions that are laughably terrifying. We are breaking down every single one of them and asking how these creeps keep getting elected when the people of Kansas voted overwhelmingly against these kinds of policies. And all this is happening while in the same week, 12 more people just sued because they almost died without abortion access. It's grim, but we always bring the facts, the funny, and the ways you can fight back! PLUS, Barry Lynn from Americans United For Separation of Church and State is our guest! He's been fighting to keep religion out of government and our underpants forEVER, and he's dishing with your Buzzkills about his entire life of being “Paid To Piss People Off” (that's the name of his memoirs!). Between 2018 and 2021, Parker was editor-at-large at Media Matters for America, writing about the role right-wing media played in the rise of Donald Trump and the creation of alternate perceived realities. They talk about the life and death challenges facing transgender Americans. Then he chats with Brian in Oregon about piercing the right-wing narrative. Next, he interviews reporters for Rewire News Group - Garnet Henderson and Jessica Pieklo on their new article The Grift of So-Called Crisis Pregnancy Centers. They discuss the anti-abortion movement and new abortion laws in red states. Oh how I love to hear people's stories and what allows them to experience God that encourages their faith. You might be tuning in this week with more of a skeptical ear thinking “I haven't experienced God to the fullness that others have talked about” and for that I just want to encourage you to keep showing up! Keep inviting Jesus in and keep asking him to strengthen your faith. I just know he's gracious enough to meet you where you're at. And if you let him, like really let him in, it'll be one epic journey! So today we have a really fun conversation to dive into with filmmaker and director, Brent Gugel. We just so happen to talk about the amazing film, Free Burma Rangers, which is a documentary film exploring the extraordinary 20-year journey of missionaries Dave and Karen Eubank and their kids, as they venture into war zones where they are fighting to bring hope. The film itself is a testimony to people trying to walk after God, full of their own limitations, sins and mistakes, facing real enemies AND asking “CAN LOVE WIN?!” We talk about the film as well as radical ways God moved during the process. Even some of the other “no way but God moments” of Brent's career. Brent Gudgel is a documentary film director and founder of the ministry Deidox. His credits include the documentary Free Burma Rangers which won Best Feature at the Justice Film Festival in NYC, was in theaters nationwide, and is now on Amazon Video. Previous work has been on Showtime, Hulu, for the Olympics, and featured during the Super Bowl. With over 20 years of experience, Brent has also directed and consulted on 250+ short documentaries for organizations such as Toyota, LA Clippers, Union Rescue Mission, Crisis Pregnancy Centers, Saddleback, Willow Creek, Goodwill, and IJM, among others. He currently resides in Merced, CA with his wife and two growing children. There comes a point when we embrace what God is doing in our lives, twists, turns and unknowns. And I believe we ALL desire for tangible evidence of God working IN our lives to at least show us he's real, right?! And the point isn't the miracles in and of themselves…. These are unexpected and always come in different ways for EVERY ONE just because God is a personal God. But we want to keep in might that in pursuing him, we want to magnify HIM, NOT the signs. I love the journey we're all on! God is so unique and so intricately involved in our lives. I'm confident that when people experience the love of the father, they'll want nothing less and no counterfeits either. I'm so excited to share more of Brent's story with you today. I hope his experiences give you the courage to believe God for more, as well! The political prosecution of former President Donald Trump continues. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has conveniently requested that the trial for Trump's fourth indictment begin one day before Super Tuesday. The Georgia DA also plans on trying the 18 other co-defendants simultaneously as Trump in the RICO case. The requested trial date reeks of sheer politics. What other election interference tactics will the Deep State use to stop the Trump campaign from winning the White House? Also, a federal judge temporarily blocked an Illinois law that allowed Pregnancy Resource Centers to be frivolously sued. The Sekulow team discusses the political corruption of the legal system, the blocked Crisis Pregnancy Center civil liability law, and more on today's show.
Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom welcomes Charlie Gerow, a well-known Pennsylvania political strategist, back onto the Dom Giordano Program, after Gerow served as an alternate elector in the state. Charlie joins to reflect on his experience, after Trump was handed down a third indictment, with questions about his handling of alternate electors contributing to his charges. First, Gerow, who hears Dom mention prosecutor Jack Smith in the introduction, takes aim at the prosecutor, explaining why he believes this indictment to be politically motivated. Then, Gerow thanks Dom for referring to him as an ‘alternate elector,' condemning that narrative that these are fake electors, taking us inside his time serving and what he was designated for if necessary. Then, Dom continues the hour by discussing both local and national topics in the political sphere. First, Dom tells of a line-item move by Governor Shapiro that puts funding for Crisis Pregnancy Centers into jeopardy, a move that Dom considers senseless and for no reason besides spite. Then, Dom brings things out nationally, taking a caller who questions how anybody can continue supporting former President Donald Trump. (Photo by Mark Makela/Getty Images)
