From wiki: “The Uninvited is a 1944 American supernatural horror film that was directed by Lewis Allen and stars Ray Milland, Ruth Hussey, and Donald Crisp. The film is based on Dorothy Macardle's novel Uneasy Freehold (1941), which was published in the United States as The Uninvited (1942) and deals with a brother and sister who purchase a house in Cornwall, England, that is plagued by paranormal events. The film is part of a cycle of supernatural-themed films that began appearing in the mid-1940s. Dodie Smith began writing the film, and Frank Partos was brought in by his friend, associate producer Charles Brackett. Brackett wanted to have the film directed by Alfred Hitchcock but could not organize plans with him, so Allen directed it. Filming began on April 16, 1943; Allen found working with Gail Russell, who was inexperienced and began crying several times, to be the most difficult part of filming.”NEXT WEEK: Santa Sangre (1989)  Follow them across the internet:Bloodhaus:https://www.bloodhauspod.com/https://twitter.com/BloodhausPodhttps://www.instagram.com/bloodhauspod/ Drusilla Adeline:https://www.sisterhydedesign.com/https://letterboxd.com/sisterhyde/Joshua Conkelhttps://www.joshuaconkel.com/https://www.instagram.com/joshua_conkel/https://letterboxd.com/JoshuaConkel/

Korea24 – 2021.08.11. (Wednesday) News Briefing: South Korea reported 2,223 new COVID-19 cases throughout Tuesday, a record high, surging past the two-thousand mark for the first time. Health authorities are considering tougher antivirus curbs after conceding current measures have not been enough. (Eunice Kim) In-Depth News Analysis: To further assess the current COVID-19 situation in the UK and South Korea, Professor Neil Mabbott, chair of immunopathology at the University of Edinburgh joins us on line. We also discuss whether the highly contagious nature of the Delta variant means we have to rethink our expectations for vaccines. Korea Trending with Walter Lee: Police plan to install advanced equipment on patrol vehicles to catch speeding violations. Meanwhile baseball infielder Park Hoy-jun of the Pittsburgh Pirates hit his first major league home run. And actor/singer Yoon Kye-sang has announced his engagement. Korea Book Club: This week we turn to the Summer edition of the Koreana Magazine, which carries a short-story by the renowned writer Kim Soom, called ‘Birth of a Rat’, translated by renowned translator Brother Anthony of Taizé. It tells a darkly comic and absurdist story of a woman who has to deal with four bumbling and incompetant rat catchers tearing through her home after her husband says he saw a rat in the house. Morning Edition Preview: From the Korea Times, we discuss a feature on the ‘Modern Girls’ anthology series, a collection of works by 21 pioneering female writers and poets from a century ago. And from the Korea Herald, we discuss a feature on the President of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Lee Kwang-hyung, on the university’s ‘Failure Lab.’

Meredith is on vacation, so Kaytee has a special guest co-host join her for this week’s episode. She is so excited to share her conversation with Jessica Turner! You’ll hear a “bookish moment of the week” from each of us: one that only a family of two authors will ever experience and a new discovery at the library that made for a quiet weekend at home. We dive in to discussing 2 books each. One of which we both cannot stop talking about. Next, we get to discuss Jessica’s new book, Stretched Too Thin, as well as her previous work, The Fringe Hours. Both are books you need on your shelves! Who wants to win a copy of STT? I’ll be giving away a copy on Instagram this week, so pop on over there to enter! We finish up with A Book (yep, capitalized) that we’d like to put into every reader’s hands. Jessica does a great job pushing BOTH of our books into your hands this week, as I promise you’ll want to pick up each of them for totally different reasons. They also kind of follow a theme (unintentionally, as usual!). Time-stamped show notes are below with references to every book and resource we mentioned in this episode. They came out of the countryside and helped to build China's industrial revolution. In the late 19th century, textile factories started to appear in the Yangtze delta, and working in them, teenage girls and young women. It was a hard life with the ever-present prospect of lung disease or industrial injuries as they wove cotton and silk. Yet there were new horizons too: these young women had money in their own right, the chance to take holiday breaks, and even to venture to the big city, Shanghai, to press their noses against the windows of the ultra-modern department stores. At a time when Chinese companies are desperate to woo the female consumer, it's worth remembering that their counterparts were there a hundred years ago. Presenter: Rana Mitter Producer: Ben Crighton Researcher: Elizabeth Smith Rosser.

It may be universally known as "the Pill," but how much do Modern Girls really know about this birth control choice? Since its development more than 45 years ago, the Pill has become the single most widely used birth control method. Although more than 80 percent of American women have taken the Pill at some point in their lives*, common myths about it persist. It's time for a refresher. Noted author and television host of The Modern Girl's Guide series, Jane Buckingham, has teamed up with women's health expert Valerie Schulz, MD, FACOG, and Ortho Women's Health & Urology, maker of ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN(R) LO (norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol), to launch The Modern Girl's Guide to the Pill. The interactive guide is available on the recently re-launched site, www.thepill.com.
