GS#351 October 2, 2012 Chances are you've heard something about the USGA and PGA's program to speed up the pace of play and make the game more fun for everyone called “Tee It Forward”. Chances are one of the thousands of courses that are participating in the program is near you. But what exactly is Tee It Forward? Well, you'll be surprised to learn that it's not just about playing the front tees to embarrass yourself in front of your friends. Barney Adams, entrepreneur, club maker, and founder of Adams Golf came up with this idea and convinced the PGA and USGA of its merit. This is part 1 of 2 in which Barney explains that it's a really good idea, despite it's name. In part 2 for Members Only, Fred pushes Barney for more of an explanation and tries to come up with a better name. http://www.playgolfamerica.com/index.cfm?action=teeitforward Terry Koehler of SCOR Golf answers Steve Xintas request to explain bounce. Are you your biggest obstacle? Often we can get on our own way by continually offering up excuses. In today's episode of the Life On Your Terms Podcast, I chat with Aaron Velki, who runs the company "Get Out of Your Own Way." Aaron shares his entrepreneurial journey which began by coaching youth soccer at a young age. He realized he wanted to pursue his passion of teaching and mentoring full-time, rather than waiting until retirement age. Aaron emphasizes the importance of aligning your goals and business with your core values and priorities in life. He cautions against chasing arbitrary revenue targets if it means sacrificing what truly matters to you. Their process helps entrepreneurs identify their ideal values, create a compelling vision for the future, and then develop actionable 6-month goals to make that vision a reality. We discuss key themes such as: not falling victim to limited beliefs, cutting out what doesn't serve you, delegating effectively, and designing your business/life congruently with your values. This conversation covers concepts like grit, failure as learning experiences, time management, and the power of pulling your future vision into the present through focused effort. Overall, it promotes self-awareness to shape your entrepreneurial journey in a more purposeful, values-driven manner. Aaron Velky is a transformational coach on a mission to help you solve your biggest problem: You. He works with entrepreneurs in pursuit of more, not living the life they know they are capable of. He's been through all the things that kept him from living the life he wanted: being his own worst enemy, believing his own excuses, and not having someone to hold him accountable to change. He's a truthful, gritty but authentic coach, fighting fearlessly no matter the size of the obstacle for those who have been silenced or have been told to shrink rather than go for their big, audacious dream. What we discuss: 0:00 Aaron's background and journey into entrepreneurship through coaching soccer. 2:14 Making his "retirement plan" his business by teaching what he learned. 5:26 Pursuing his passion for coaching soccer at a young age. 12:25 Starting the nonprofit Money Club to teach financial literacy. 16:54 Pivoting when Money Club and his book were disrupted by COVID-19. 19:54 Maintaining resilience during the challenging COVID period. 27:00 Calculations that gave him a safety net to leave W2 job at 27. 33:26 Being a perpetual learner to have more to teach. 41:00 Get Out of Your Own Way's process for client clarity and alignment. 58:00 Examples of clients achieving desired lifestyles by realigning priorities. 1:01:02 Importance of coaching to maximize potential and gain outside perspective. Hello there, Fiona, and welcome to the show. It's so good to have you with us. Fiona Lowe: Oh, thank you so much for having me. It's great to be here. Jenny Wheeler: Fiona, you've got a very impressive back list in the romance area where you started writing You've got prize winning books that have won RITAs. That's the US romance prize and the RUBY, the Australian prize. But you've turned in more recent years to women's fiction and this one that we're going to be talking about today, The Money Club is actually about the sixth one of these women's fiction ones, if I counted correctly. Why did you make that change from more straight romance to very much women's fiction? Fiona Lowe: Oh, I was published with Penguin Random House in America around about the time that they merged. And I had a series, and the first book had done well. The second book release coincided with the merger and it was absolute chaos. They sacked my editor and they didn't get the books out of the warehouse. And then they said, ‘oh, we're not publishing those types of books anymore.' I had lived in the States and I was writing books set in America, but when that all happened, I had an absolute hankering to write a book set in my own back garden in Australia. A forced change of direction that worked out well I wanted to move beyond looking at one couple and one relationship, and I wanted to roam over all sorts of things and write books about family and communities. I changed direction, but that said, the emotion that I write into my books now, I probably couldn't have done without all those years of having written the romance fiction up until that point. Jenny Wheeler: And are you still with the same publisher, just doing different types of books? Fiona Lowe: No. I'm with Harper Collins, Australia now, have been for the last seven books. Jenny Wheeler: Oh, fantastic.
