Dennis connects via Zoom with Jeffery Bowman who is the founder and co-host of Legendary Bingo, a West Hollywood staple since 1998. Jeffery talks about the event's humble beginnings, how he enlisted the queen Belle Aire early on as his first drag co-host and how the event has raised over $9 million to date for countless local charities. He dishes about all the celebrities that have appeared at Bingo over the years including Molly Shannon, Ed Asner, Paula Abdul, Richard Simmons, Seth Rogan, Lesley Ann Warren and his first-ever celebrity guest Jean Smart. He also talks about his more recent creative endeavor; writing, recording and releasing songs on Spotify under the name Jeffery Leonard Bowman. His song "No Shelter," about his own experience with rescue animals, is connecting with other animal lovers all over the world and Jeffery couldn't be more thrilled about it. Other topics include: how both Jeffery and Dennis have worked with and been delightfully scandalized by drag legend Willam at Bingo and The MisMatch Game respectively, how great it feels when someone compliments him on his music, the corporate gigs that make it so he's able to make his living from Bingo, why it's never not a pain in the ass when a reality show wants to shoot at Bingo, co-starring with Ron Jeremy in the movie Orgasmo, why people love the game of Bingo generally, finding great collaborators on Craig's List and his favorite celebrity guest caller ever. Lori Kalef, from SPCA International, joins us in part two of our interview, to discuss Apollo's Aid program, an initiative that has been a beacon of hope for military members relocating with their pets, and animals in war-torn regions.Navigating through heartwarming rescue tales, we explore the myriad challenges faced by these champions of animal welfare. Lori amplifies on the conundrum of finding forever homes for rescued pets and the distressing reality of euthanizing healthy, friendly animals due to overcrowding in shelters. As we unravel the horrifying extent of animal cruelty and abandonment in the US, Lori emphasizes the critical role of rescue & adoption in mitigating this crisis. In this engaging dialogue, we delve into the potential of education and advocacy in solving these issues. In this show, Carol Novello, founder of Mutual Rescue™ and author of the new book, “Mutual Rescue: How Adopting a Homeless Animal Can Save You, Too” shares her story and the countless stories of others who reveal the powerful impact of adopted pets and their owners upon each other. From Parkland HS students, who lost friends in the horrific school shooting, but found the presence and adoption of dogs to be the bridges from terror and loss to love and comfort, to couples improving their relationships, to people helped with physical illness, addiction recovery or finding a purpose in life – adopting a dog is a gift that keeps on giving, even to others beyond the pet and owner. Importantly, Carol underscores stories with research science which verifies and expands what people are reporting, even tracing how it is that wolves and wildcats came to be the dogs that love to sleep in our beds and the cats that own our sofas. Listen in and prepare to feel a heart tug!

Mark Longo has a squirrel named Peanut for a roommate & with over 1 million followers on Tik Tok, there ain't nothin' wrong with that. So many good questions to answer: Does he have rabies? What about Mark? Where does he go to the bathroom? Again, what about Mark? And most importantly, is a squirrel the best wingman ever? When we first saw Mark and Peanut on social media, we immediately shouted, "What the what!" Then we said, "We gotta have them on our show." This is the feel good, squirrel/human, real life roomies story you didn't know you needed to hear but damn will you be smiling once you do. (No animals were harmed in the making of this episode. But again, what about Mark?).

Are you wondering how you can help grassroots animal welfare organizations while in lockdown? Look no further! On this episode of the Pawareness Podcast, we welcome Paris Miller, Founder and Executive Director of Project Canis, whose mission is to help animals in shelters by giving them toys made from recycled materials. This college student-run organization is already making a huge impact in Florida's animal shelters and they've only been up and running for one year! The best part is, it doesn't matter what state you live in, you can get involved and help make a difference in the lives of shelter animals by volunteering with Project Canis from the comfort of your home, at zero cost to you. Paris speaks on about the enormous impacts of donating toys to animal shelters, such as improving the animals' physical and mental wellbeing and helping them get adopted. “The reality is that animals in shelters are left alone for hours on end overnight when there's no shelter staff around and having just one toy can really provide a sense of comfort to an animal.” - Paris Miller Tune in to see what kinds of toys Project Canis accepts, to learn more about the future of Project Canis, and to discover how you can volunteer with them or organize a service project of your own!
