On this episode of The Middle School Mind, we continue our review of Halloween candies that are safe for kids with peanut and tree nut food allergies. Halloween is a fun time for kids, and since we have family members with severe food allergies, we hand out peanut and tree nut free candies on Halloween. On this episode, we pull random allergy-safe candy from a hat and we taste test each candy and tell you if we would Keep this candy, Trade this candy or Chuck this candy. Here are the allergy-friendly candies we review on this episode: Jolly Rancher Gummies - 2 in 1 Son wants to Keep since he doesn't think others would want to Trade him for it. Father feels like it has the consistency of Swedish Fish and sticks to his teeth. We talk about how people who hand out fruit snacks on Halloween are our heroes! Goetze's Bullseye Caramel Creams This one was a unanimous Keep! Once you hit the cream center, it was great. It reminded us of the Oreo cream center. This was a new candy for Son, but Father has enjoyed this for quite some time. We feel these candies are too small and not enough people hand these candies out on Halloween! Jolly Rancher Lollipops Son said this meets his expectations for a Jolly Rancher candy. This is a Keep for him. Father chose to bite through his lollipop and noted that it was pretty sour. We talked about how you never see adults walking around sucking on lollipops. Whoppers Son liked it, but would Trade this for an upgrade in his Halloween bag. Father loves Whoppers but too many in one sitting can get too sweet. Sweet Tarts Sweet Tarts only had two distinct flavors - the Purple and Green and it was so tart with a bad aftertaste. Son said this is an automatic Chuck and would never wish this on anyone. Oreos It's great to end Oreos! This was another unanimous Keep for Father and Son. Father talks about his Oreo consumption style to combine two Oreos for one Ultra Oreo. was just our opinion and these candies are safe for Son's allergies. Please make sure these candies are safe for you based on your specific food allergies. This was a great episode since we got to eat candy and critique the Halloween candy that we will give out to our neighbors. We finish the episode talking about middle schoolers and if they still go trick or treating in 7th grade. Have a very safe and very Happy Halloween everyone! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/themiddleschoolmind/message

On this episode, we pull random allergy-safe candy from a hat and we taste test each candy and tell you if we would Keep this candy, Trade this candy or Chuck this candy. Here are the candies we review on this episode: Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers Mini Son thinks Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers all taste the same Father notes these have a little sugar and look like the letter S with half the crawler one flavor and the other half another flavor Son would TRADE Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers Laffy Taffy Each Laffy Taffy comes with a handful of groan-worthy dad jokes Son thinks this has a weird texture with smooth and hard spots and didn't finish his piece Both Son and Father would CHUCK Laffy Taffy since there's not a lot of street value to these candies Jolly Rancher Stix Son didn't enjoy his but it wasn't the worst candy Father does not like Jolly Rancher since it stuck to his teeth and he can't immediately chew this Jolly Rancher Stix Son would TRADE this candy since we think enough people like Jolly Rancher candy Nerds Nerds are a classic candy! We both agree that Nerds are a KEEPER. Milk Duds Son tries Milk Duds for the first time Father thinks Milk Duds are duds The caramel is chewy and the chocolate is meh We agree that Milk Duds are a TRADE if you can find a willing partner (sucker) Rolo Son talks about his memories of Rolos that he finds in his stockings every Christmas at his grandparents house Father thinks Rolos are what the Milk Duds creators wanted Milk Duds to turn into We both agree that Rolos are a KEEP in every Halloween bag We have a lot more candy to go and we don't want to ruin our dinner. It's just a bunch of hocus pocus. Is it? Is it Max? Is a virgin lighting the black flame candle on All Hallow's Eve EVER just a bunch of hocus pocus???? You're lucky Binks didn't kill you with his cat disdain. ANYWAY. This isn't about Max, or Binks, or even Dani, it's all about the Sanderson sisters as it should be. Lauren is too much of a wimp to watch an actual scary movie, and Rachel wants to be Sarah or date her, we're not really sure, so we ended up here! Disney movies aren't all that hard to sort, but boy did we have fun doing it (and going off on tangents, but you better enjoy those too). We hope you all have a HAPPY and SAFE Halloween and that you don't wander into any abandoned museums with human skin books and light a candle or get stuck dancing all night in a school gymnasium with a woman dressed as pointy boob Madonna.
EVERYONE tells a story this week! With the theme "Halloween." Regular guest Dave Jadico along with Eoin O'Shea, Jessie Preisendorfer, Kevin Regan, and Steve Roney. Have a Happy & Safe Halloween!
Halloween will be here before you know it, so today I’ll share some quick tips that will help you and your family have a fun, safe holiday. Skeletons, spiderwebs, and jack-o'-lanterns galore are popping up all over our neighborhoods, and that can only mean one thing: Halloween is just around the corner. If your preparations so far have involved stocking up on candy and choosing the perfect costume for yourself or your children, you're on the right track. Getting in the Halloween spirit is great, but decking out your yard with spooky decor and buying sweets for trick-or-treaters isn't the only thing you should be doing to get ready for the holiday ahead. Ghouls and goblins might be nothing more than fun, fictional frights, but there are some real dangers to watch out for on Halloween night. Thankfully, by following a few simple safety tricks, you can help make this Halloween a fun and safe treat for everyone. 1. If you're a homeowner expecting trick-or-treaters, make sure you: Keep your home, yard, and sidewalks brightly lit (and shoveled if applicable) Clear debris and obstacles from your yard, steps, and walkways Keep pets kenneled Park your car in the garage Use LED candles instead of real candles inside Jack-o'-lanterns Tone down extra-scary decor Keep a close eye on your front door 2. If you're a parent with children who plan to trick-or-treat, make sure you: Always accompany young children to each house they visit Visit neighborhoods with sidewalks to avoid walking in the street Always use crosswalks and look both ways before crossing the street Add reflective tape to your child's costume Keep masks at home, as they can obstruct your child's vision Have your child carry a flashlight Establish a curfew for older children venturing out on their own Remind older, unsupervised children to call 911 in case of emergency Tell unaccompanied children to never enter a stranger's home “You can help make this Halloween a fun and safe treat for everyone.” 3. If you're going to be driving on Halloween night, make sure you: Stay alert and watch for children in the street Eliminate any distractions within your vehicle Drive slowly Be especially cautious at intersections and corners Be mindful when pulling in or out of driveways With Halloween holding such a high risk of accidents involving child pedestrians, following these safety tips will be essential. Still, even after your children have made it home with their Halloween haul, there is one more important safety concern you'll need to address: their candy. 4. Check candy for the following red flags before letting your trick-or-treaters dig into their treats: An unusual or discolored appearance Spoiled or unwrapped items Tears or holes in wrappers In addition to following these tips, you should also be wary of homemade items or baked goods. If you don't personally know who made them, these should be discarded. As a general rule for any treat: When in doubt, throw it out. Parents should also be mindful of treats that could pose a choking hazard. Hard candies, gum, peanuts, and small toys should only be given to older children. If you have any additional questions regarding tainted or unsafe candy, you can contact Poison Control or your local police department. Along with the tips above, this year we must do our part in protecting ourselves, our children, and our families amidst the pandemic. 5. Follow safety precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19: Trick-or-treating: Don't go out if you feel ill, minimize contact with others, wear a costume that allows a facemask as well, and avoid touching doorbells or railings (call out “trick or treat” instead). Handing out candy: Don't hand out candy if you're feeling ill or isolating, wear a facemask, hand out treats from your driveway or front lawn, and make candy bags to space out on a table or blanket. By following these tips, you and your trick-or-treaters will be all set to have a safe and happy holiday. Fangs for reading and sharing this. Happy Halloween!

Halloween is just around the corner. Usually, this means trick-or-treating, fall parties, and lots of candy and treats for children and families. But this year is different due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Halloween festivities need to be adapted to protect those who are most vulnerable and slow the spread of COVID-19. This special edition of the Mayo Clinic Q&A podcast features an #AskMayoMom episode, which is hosted by Dr. Angela Mattke, a pediatrician at Mayo Clinic Children's Center. Joining Dr. Mattke to discuss safe Halloween activities during the pandemic are Dr. Nipunie Rajapakse, a pediatric infectious diseases physician at Mayo Clinic, and Dr. Kelsey Klaas, a Mayo Clinic pediatrician.
“There are low to no risk activities which could add up to a really great Halloween so that this year's Halloween celebration is not full of scary disappointments, but more full of fun and celebration.” This week on the 3D Parent Podcast, I'm going to share with you the recommendations of things to avoid for this year's Halloween due to the unfortunate pandemic and things you can still proceed with while taking proper precautions. Some of the topics I discuss include: High-risk activities that should be avoided for this week's Halloween celebration. Moderate risk activities that you could explore, bearing in mind the risk that comes with it and proper precautions to remember. Low to no risk activities which are safe alternatives compare to traditional Halloween activities that may not be advisable this year. The pandemic has already brought a bunch of disappointments, not just for adults, but also for children. With the CDC's consideration and guidelines for holiday celebration, it reminds us that we can still have a fun and joyful holiday without compromising our safety.
