In his speech to Congress, President Trump kept lying about his tariffs, falsely claiming that Canada is letting huge amounts of fentanyl into our country and suggesting the trade wars will only get worse. Then press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters directly that if Canada wants to avoid tariffs in the future, it should become the 51st U.S. state. She said it: Trump's tariffs are really about getting Canada to submit to his will. Newsflash: It's not okay for the American president to lie relentlessly about our allies and threaten them with economic Armageddon to bend them to his deranged, passing whims. We talked to Rolling Stone senior political reporter Asawin Suebsaeng, who's been forcefully making that argument. He explains why Trump's vile bullying of our allies deserves to be taken much more seriously, as a clear sign of Trump's very real imperialist intentions. Looking for More from the DSR Network? NEWSFLASH: It turns out all we needed to make this music podcast work was to have someone who could talk about music on it-- we cannot normally do that but luckily we had a blessed savior this week with our wonderful guest Leanne [OTHER IDENTIFYING INFORMATION REDACTED] as we discuss her comfort food album: The Life Pursuit by Belle and Sebastian. No spoilers but we three lads were not prepared for this choice and we are sorry that she's so much better than us at this. Also up for discussion: A chat about James Blunt, which is beautiful (it's true) and also this does count about food fight and I'll believe that until there's a new gospel that says it ain't. In a day and age where it's easy to just copy and paste (hello ChatGPT) website verbiage, social media captions or even marketing strategies, how do you stand out? Newsflash: It's not to yell louder or spend more on advertising. It's about going deeper. One of the ways to do this is through story-telling. This isn't new..."story" is a marketing buzz word. But even with it out there, not may people are doing it....or at least not doing it well. In this episode, I talk through not only why it's important, but how to format those stories, and then I give you 4 types of stories you should be telling as well as 4 steps to telling better stories. Did you know that the rearing of the Millennial and Gen-Z cultures differs from the rest of us? Newsflash: It's true! The "moral lines" were more straightforward for you and me: sin was a sin, and it was evident most anyone. Regrettably, the culture and media have bombarded the last two generations with an "acceptance message" that embraces a "to each his own" worldview, so what is obvious to you, as clearly taught from the Bible, is questioned by the current generation. For this episode, we caught up with Cat Walker, Bachelor of International Studies (Hons 1), Bachelor of Laws, Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, Registered Veterinary Nurse, from way down under in Australia! You may know Cat as Radio Vet Nurse, and Jeff has been a guest on her podcast. Cat's world turned upside down in late 2020, as her veterinarian husband battled substance use disorder. Cat talks about how she navigated, and continues to navigate, this difficult process and how things changed in the blink of an eye. She talks about his path forward, but also her own, and how her personal and professional life were altered as a result of his struggles. She discusses how getting help for herself was vital in her path forward and how the stresses she was experiencing as a result of all of this affected her health and wellness. This episode looks at substance abuse from a slightly different angle from our last episode, yet, still analyzes the veterinary field input on this problem. Please join me in my bubbling excitement as Jennifer Moss, author of the new book The Burnout Epidemic published by Harvard Business Press joins our conversation.I can see this book is challenging leaders, teams and organizations to re-think burnout and create healthier, happier and more productive workplaces. It turns out, ping-pong tables may not be enough.Jennifer vulnerably shares her life experiencing burnout and pandemic (personal and professional) obstacles as well as the systems and mindset she creates, to avoid burnout and interrupt unhealthy patterns. I strongly recommend starting with the last chapter first: Take Care of Yourself, Too.We talk about:· What is burnout?· Leadership and leading with empathy and curiosity.· A beautiful new take on “professional eavesdropping!”· Slowing down the lunch line. It's time to address the burnout epidemic – personally and in your role, as a leader. This book fuels our conversation to inspire re-thinking wellness programs, leadership check-ins, and what organizations can do to prevent burnout and build strategies to support self-care, resilience, open communication, and innovation.Newsflash: It's a two-way street! The solution to burnout at work is not about ‘forced fun' in fact consider leading with good intentions, sincere curiosity how people are really doing and if imbued with empathy then this will build trust and allow for fun and an authentic and productive culture.Jennifer expresses: “Leaders, I believe in us.” Jennifer, I sincerely thank you for your inspiration (today as well as for guidance in this book) encouraging us to battle burnout and support a thriving workplace culture during this pandemic.Connect with Jennifer today:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenleighmoss/Website: https://www.jennifer-moss.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jennifermossinc/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/JenniferMossInc Let's connect!LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kimberly-j-snider/Website: https://peoplebrain.ca/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/overflow_podcast/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/PeopleBrain.OVERflow/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

What are the ramifications of living in a society where masks are everywhere? How are children going to respond to staring at screens all day while wearing masks? Is it a good thing if we have more germaphobes and hypochondriacs? Today on the Spiritual Spiral, I felt inspired to talk about my trip back home to Ohio and I wonder how we can possibly recover from the onslaught of fear, social distance and mask wearing. I talk about my own struggles as a germaphobe and hypochondriac and I worry we're simply creating more of this neurotic behavior. I talk about the media and their clever usage of catchy phrases like "new normal" to brainwash people into thinking this bizarre way of living is normal. Newsflash--- It's not. I also felt compelled to talk about the passing of Eddie Van Halen who was one of my childhood heroes. On Episode 005 of That Was Disappointing, we have become Death, the destroyer of worlds. Our first topic is the grammar police. Art has a beef with any internet commenters that choose to correct his various miscues. If he had given more of a shit in school (fun activity: ask him about his GPA) perhaps this wouldn’t be an issue... Our second topic is about inventions that didn’t arrive. Did Back to the Future, Blade Runner, etc., lie to us? Kenny certainly thinks so. Meanwhile, Producer Dave just wants one of those swell paddle cars from The Flintstones. Our third topic is about your best thrift store finds. According to Ryan, it’s only a matter of time until he has a million dollar-find. We hope that’s the case for his sake as all he’s found so far are fleas and lice. Our final topic is about the moratorium on spoilers. Isn’t it a tad ridiculous that Red Dead Redemption 2 was released a couple of years back and Joe still as to walk on eggshells around some of his fellow panelists? Newsflash: It doesn’t take a seer to realize why some of the characters from this game (which is a prequel) aren’t mentioned in the original. The More You Know! Come listen to the podcast that’s receiving rave reviews on the Apple Store. And not just from our wives either!
