Live Between Us – Essential Tracks, Layered Lyrics & Hip ObsessionFully & Completely – The Tragically Hip Podcast SeriesThis week on Fully & Completely, jD and Greg dive into Live Between Us, The Tragically Hip's electrifying 1997 live album — and they're joined by music publicist, historian, and walking encyclopedia Eric Alper.Together, they unpack what makes these tracks “stone cold classics,” how Gord Downie's lyrics evolve over time, and why some songs reveal entirely new meaning decades after first listen. If you've ever sung a Hip lyric confidently… only to realize years later you completely misunderstood it — this episode is for you.
This week, we did something a little different — we built our own tier list website just so we could rank 80s sitcoms without fighting pop-ups and autoplay ads. Totally normal behavior. But here's the twist: we're not ranking them based on how “important” they were at the time. We're asking a much more dangerous question:Would we actually rewatch this in 2026?That framework leads to some very strong opinions.
In this episode of Passionate & Prosperous, I'm sitting down with my friend Laura Belgray — OG in the online business world, Queen of storytelling, founder of Talking Shrimp, and author of Tough Titties — for a conversation that covers a lot of ground (on purpose!)Yes, we talk about email marketing — why your email list still matters, why emails don't have to be boring or “salesy,” and how selling to your list can feel normal, relational, and very human. But I also wanted to give Laura the space to really share how she built her Passionate & Prosperous life and business. We get the inside scoop on Laura's business evolution: what it was like in the early days of the online business space, figuring things out as she went, creating offers by listening closely to what people were responding to, and building a business by taking action, trusting her instincts, and being unapologetically herself. We also talk a lot about writing and storytelling and Laura shares her perspective on finding your voice, showing the journey as it unfolds, and why your emails (and content overall) get to sound like a real person wrote them. Frequency, consistency, trust, connection — it's all part of the same ecosystem. If you care about building a business around what you're actually good at, creating opportunities instead of waiting for permission, and leaning into relationships as a growth strategy, you'll get a lot out of this one.In this episode, we talk about:Laura's business evolution and what it really looked like to build as she wentThe early days of online business (and learning by doing)Why email lists are still one of the most valuable assets you haveSelling to your email list without making it weirdStorytelling, voice, and being unapologetically yourself in your writingHow consistency and frequency build familiarity and trustCreating offers by paying attention to real audience responseIn classic Passionate & Prosperous style, this episode is a reminder that there's no formula for building a great business — it's built by showing up, experimenting, trusting and being willing to take action before you know “how” it's all going to turn out!Join Laura in NYC for her Bingeworthy Live Writing Retreat March 22 and 23, 2026!You can also connect with Laura through her website and on Instagram.Get Full Show Notes, Event Sign Ups and More Information Here.

In this practical episode of SLP Coffee Talk, Hallie chats with Dr. Danika Pfeiffer—preschool SLP, assistant professor, and early literacy researcher—about how we can support early writing in young kids, especially those with developmental language disorder (DLD). From understanding why name writing is more about memory than letters, to how SLPs can build in writing practice without adding to their workload, Danika breaks it all down. You'll hear simple ideas, ways to team up with teachers and OTs, and why even small moments of print awareness can go a long way. If you've ever wondered if writing is in your scope, this convo will leave you feeling inspired and ready to dive in—one crayon at a time.Bullet Points to Discuss: Why early writing starts earlier than you think—even in preschoolThe difference between name writing and letter writingHow writing challenges show up in kids with developmental language disorder (DLD)Simple ways to embed writing practice into your existing sessionsWhat SLPs can look for during evaluations—no fancy tools neededBuilding print awareness without overhauling your therapyPartnering with teachers and OTs around early writing supportThe SLP's role in preventing future writing difficultiesMaking early writing doable (and meaningful) for busy SLPsHere's what we learned: Name writing is visual recall—not true letter-sound knowledge.Letter writing is harder and needs explicit, repeated support.Kids with DLD follow typical writing development but at a slower pace.Easy, everyday strategies (like sign-in sheets or labeled items) can build writing skills.Print awareness fits naturally into speech sessions—no overhaul needed.Informal assessments (paper + crayon!) are enough to track early writing.Collaborate with teachers and OTs to target both language and motor skills.Early writing support helps prevent bigger literacy challenges laterLearn more about Dr. Danika Pfeiffer: Website: www.danikapfeiffer.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/danikapfeiffer.slp/ LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/danika-pfeiffer Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/danikapfeiffer.bsky.social Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/444VIuWOxBzZ8fI2hqGyFj Learn more about Hallie Sherman and SLP Elevate:

“We all know that when we write copy, we have to talk to the ideal person, but I find it's really easy to introduce bias and start talking about what you want or what you think they want and not what they actually want.” –Mimi ZhouAre you talking about the right things? Sometimes our copywriting misses the mark because we talk about what our potential clients or customers need … instead of what they actually want. I'm really excited to talk with conversion copywriter Mimi Zhou about how we really drive action with our writing. You can be really good at what you do without being really good at talking about it. It can be hard to get out of our own heads and what we know. We need to use the language our clients or customers use. How do we do that?We talk about: How to gather the data that drives the writingHow to get a better response on questions on social mediaThe kinds of numbers you need for the data to be relevantSelling one thingTrigger events in marketing Creating a timeline for that shows the before, the buy, and the steps in betweenABOUT MIMIAs a conversion copywriter, Dr. Mimi Zhou revels in customer research--because when you understand what your audience wants, you don't need to guess what they'll pay you for.Her copywriting projects are built on a thorough research foundation where she studies info your audience provides through reviews, surveys, interviews, and more. Her ability to parse data into numerical information and read between the lines to hear what customers say beneath the surface helps her understand what customers want even when they don't tell you directly.A fun fact about Mimi: Her path to becoming a professional researcher began at UC Berkeley and culminated in her PhD at New York University. Later, her belief that knowledge is power led her to seek copywriting training from the original conversion copywriter, Joanna Wiebe (founder, Copyhackers). So Mimi literally got a professional research degree and then studied copywriting with the original conversion copywriter herself!LINKShttps://mimizhou.com/https://www.instagram.com/mimithezhou/linkedin.com/in/mimizhou/Mimi is also one of the amazing teachers for Back to Business Week. Change comes from action. Doable changes are things that you can add into your life, one at a time to make micro shifts and really create a ripple effect that will create a big change over time. Choose one that really piques your interest and roll with it. Here are three Doable Changes from this conversation:SURVEY YOUR READERS. Create an 8–10 question survey about what they need and where they are. Your goal is to stop guessing about what people want and be able to talk to them about what they want. Have you heard the advice to sell people what they want and give them what they need? To do that you need to hit what they really want, not what you think they need.ASK A MULTIPLE CHOICE...

Is your messaging truly connecting with your audience? If you're not using storytelling, it might not be.But there is hope!On this episode of the IBO podcast, we have Graham Burke, Owner at Bullseye Messaging. Graham was born to be a copywriter but didn't take an ordinary path to get there. While others worked soul-crushing marketing agency jobs or whiled away their young lives in a classroom, Graham was doing . . . other things, like cris-crossing Guatemala as a human rights observer and being a horseback tour guide by day and bartender/cook by night on Kodiak Island, Alaska. That's just the shortlist, but all these "jobs" taught him that you don't prosper (or maybe even survive) if you can't quickly spot the critical problems and find creative solutions, and communicate them.Graham talks about how adding stories to your marketing can have a huge impact on your prospective clients. In this episode, you'll discover:How to take a complex product/service and simplify the messagingHow to properly use AI to help with writingHow to really connect with your clients and prospectsHow to be a storyteller if you're not good at storytellingSo much more! You can find Graham at Bullseye Messaging and on socials:LinkedInIf you liked this episode, please leave us a review on Apple Podcasts!

In the latest episode of Write the Damn Book Already, I spoke with Julie Chavez, author of the incredibly well-received memoir, Everyone But Myself (January 2024, Zibby Books). After Julie's life experience turned into a book idea, she wrote 30,000 words and thought that surely it was a complete, publishable book. Newsflash: It wasn't. But she stuck with it, and within a few weeks of launch, it became a USA Today Bestseller.INTERVIEW HIGHLIGHTSWhy being naive is the greatest gift for authors sharing vulnerable stories Thoughts on why aspiring authors don't understand the challenges involved in book writing (it's one of the things this podcast hopes to rectify!)Metrics authors use to determine “success” (including Julie's) + an exploration of the “machine” side versus the human side of writingHow to trust when you've healed "enough” to write about challengesThe lesser-known benefits of having an agent (beyond getting a book deal)ABOUT JULIEJulie Chavez is an elementary school librarian in Northern California. Summary:As artists, we've taken a sacred oath to tell “the truth,” in one of its many forms, but how do you know what the Truth (capital T) really is?Like art, truth is often subjective. But if you take this commitment to the truth seriously, and are willing to go to the hard, emotional places where it lives, then you will end up with a piece that not only speaks to your audience, but uncovers your true essence. In episode #115 of The Author's Corner, Robin speaks to Katie Love, an artist who strives to use emotion and curiosity to uncover the truth in every piece (and have a few laughs along the way). Katie shares how writing her memoir helped her learn the truth about her past in ways she never expected and why she encourages other artists to do the same to tap into their emotional core. They discuss many aspects of being a writer, including how Katie uses the hero's journey in everything she writes - from novels to nonfiction to copy writing!Key takeaways:The role that writing played in Katie's early yearsWhat she learned about herself by writing her memoirThe importance of curiosity in writingHow her background in acting has contributed to her writing, and vice versaHow the hero's journey applies to nonfiction (even copy writing!)What you can learn from the Trader Joe's Fearless FlyerThe best way to learn about characters (and people)Insight into Katie's writing scheduleThe gift of tapping into your emotional coreKatie's fear of success as a writerResources mentioned in this episode:TV series, Dark ShadowsTell Yourself a Better Lie, by Marisa PeerKatie's memoir, Two Tickets to Paradise, from Cult to ComedyKatie's novel, CubicideTrader Joe's Fearless FlyerAbout Katie Love:Katie Love is a writer-comedian, writing coach, and producer living in Los Angeles. Everybody loves winners, but sometimes the most compelling stories are born out of losing. That's one of the things Ian Thomsen learned when he was assigned to cover the losingest team in college football while in Northwestern University's famed journalism program. He also juggled a job for the Chicago Sun-Tribune and eventually earned a spot on one of the greatest writing rosters of all time with the Boston Globe. This gave Ian an insider's view of the heated Celtics-Lakers rivalry that defined NBA basketball in the 80s, and led to a candid, two-hour interview with Michael Jordan when he was coming back from a potential career-ending foot injury. Later stints with Sports Illustrated and The International Herald Tribune saw Ian covering events as diverse as the Rugby World Cup, UEFA Champion's League, and London Olympics. Throughout all these experiences, Ian's love of people, ability to unearth previously untold stories, and passion for sports has shone through in every single word he puts on the page. In this interview, Ian shares: What it was like to interview Michael Jordan, Pat Riley, and the best Celtics team How living in London and Paris expanded his perspective on lifeWhich unexpected stories he most enjoyed writingHow the Heat vs Lakers vs Celtics vs Mavericks rivalry pivoted the NBA for the betterWhat place longform storytelling has in our attention-limited societyTo enjoy more of Ian's insights, follow him on Twitter and read The Soul of Basketball.

Today's episode features an eye-opening conversation with Julie Bogart on how to help kids who have resistance around writing, which, I have a hunch, is something many of you out there listening are familiar with. Julie, the mastermind behind the Brave Writer program, the Brave Writer podcast, and really thoughtful content on all things kids, writing, learning with confidence, and critical thinking, is the perfect person to explore this topic with. What I thought might be an interview that focused on the nuts and bolts of writing ended up being a very moving and inspiring lesson about self-expression and trust. Julie and I talked about how separating the mechanical and self-expression parts of writing can help kids experience less resistance to writing, how to break through barriers students may have when it comes to expressing themselves, and what Julie identifies as performance anxiety at the heart of a child's struggles to getting starting putting words down on the page. Julie also gave some fantastic advice on how to change the script around writing resistance and where to get started for parents experiencing this at home. Julie Bogart is known for her common sense parenting and education advice. She's the author of the beloved book, The Brave Learner, which has brought joy and freedom to countless home educators. Her new book, Raising Critical Thinkers, offers parents a lifeline in navigating the complex digital world our kids are confronting.Julie's also the creator of the award-winning, innovative online writing program called Brave Writer, now 22 years old, serving 191 countries.
