Cooper Belisle makes his second appearance and it is even better than the first. Jeff and Cooper discuss technology, health, and extreme recreational activities in typical Ramble by the River fashion, interspersed with short personal anecdotes from both of the guys. They cover technology topics such as vaccines, the Metaverse, Neuralink, crypto, NFTs, VR, AR, and dystopian scenarios. And they hit sports with skiing, snowboarding, skydiving, hang-gliding, and wingsuit cliff-diving. Towards the end of the episode Cooper drops a bomb and announces that he is pursuing a new career in a field that is highly controversial! And we discuss some of the challenges that await him there. Cooper's life is driven by a core philosophy that prioritizes positivity and personal enrichment, and it has led him to travel the globe in search of adventure and enlightenment. Whether he is facing down cancer treatments or jumping out of an airplane, this guy greets each day with composure and class. It was truly an honor to share the studio with him and I hope you enjoy the show! ________________________________________________ Topics/Keywords: Vaccine reactions; vasectomy; medicine; nazi research; Volkswagen; Hitler; Toyota; Tesla; stock market; crypto; gaming; esports; NFTs; non-fungible tokens; Play-to-earn; P2E; Microsoft; Epic Games; Activision-Blizzard; corporate bailouts; 2008 economic crash; parenting; adoption; babies; Oculus; Facebook; Beat Saber; Sony PlayStation VR; metaverse; haptic suits; haptic gloves; virtual reality; U2; Apple Computers; Augmented Reality; AR; machine learning; neural net; artificial intelligence; animal intelligence; smart homes; generative art; Google; Contrastive NFT; Neuralink; implantable computers; Human computer interface; skiing; snowboarding; snow sports; Snow Patrol; sports injuries; pain medication; airboats; dirt bikes; sky-diving; Bobby Coda; Bono; Spotify; Mark Zuckerberg; wearable tech; Tesla; Jeff Bezos; Elon Musk; pig heart transplant; The Cable Guy; Jim Carrey; law enforcement; police officer training; Joe Rogan; censorship; Trump; losing pets; good grief; Portals metaverse; real-estate market; Joe Rogan Experience; Dr. Robert Malone; pets; grief; NFT Giveaway. This is a great one! We promise! It's funny how people always love to look at the trees and flowers from the ground up. Don't they look good? What about the long roots under the soil? Can't they be beautiful too? Just because you can't see them, that does not mean they aren't there. "A tree with strong roots laughs at storms." In life, we always love to admire someone else's success, the fruit, if you will. But we never spend the time looking at the foundations, and the hard work that is going on underneath. The roots that are underground. This is an episode where Los and Bertram take a strong look at the growing infrastructure problem in the United States of America, as well as the comparison worldwide. #92 - How Face Masks Became Patriotic & Sexy

Beyond Bitchy: Mastering the Art of Boundaries

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 3, 2020 20:06

The title may be wishful thinking, but I want to make a case for it! Boundaries are about protection, and in boundaries terms, wearing a face mask is about protecting other people. I want to dig into this today, and talk about wearing a mask as an act of compassion, courage, honor, strength, and patriotism. Biggest Takeaways From Episode #92: Two factors, among many, that contribute to our COVID-19 death rate in the US are our failed healthcare system and our rugged individualistic mindset. In the US, we have under 5% of the world’s population, but almost a third of the worldwide deaths from COVID. We also have a collective denial around the toxic legacy of slavery in the US, and how that legacy has contributed to health and healthcare disparities by race. The coronavirus mortality rate for Black Americans is 2.4 times higher than for white Americans.  Instead of coming together to fight the virus, we’re engaged in a mask war. Imagine how differently things might have gone, and how many lives might have been saved, if US citizens had been inspired to view wearing masks and physical distancing as patriotic and honorable actions. Wearing a face mask is an act of accountability. It’s an honest and humble admission that you’re not sure if you can infect someone, and a choice to do what you can to protect others. Highlights from Episode #92: Welcome to episode 92! Vicki starts off with a story about her time with Thich Nhat Hanh in the 1990s. [00:39] Vicki talks about the current pandemic numbers, which are staggering when it comes to the number of deaths in the US. [05:48] We’re now engaged in a mask war, Vicki points out. She then explains the role of masks in boundaries terms. [09:08] Vicki invites listeners to imagine what it might have been like if the country had been inspired to wear masks and practice physical distancing as patriotic actions. [13:00] We hear about accountability, as well as a powerfully disarming question you can ask when you need to make amends. Peterson 2017 Fiscal Summit, and the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to meet with America's legislators and policymakers, voicing their concerns on America's economic future. The competition launched in 2012 in partnership with the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, Net Impact and Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U), and with just 10 schools. Now five years later it has grown into a national movement of student activists that have engaged more than 100,000 people on America's national debt, with a focus on finding non-partisan solutions.  Up to Us empowers the millennial generation to build a prosperous future by equipping them with training and resources to help them become young leaders that drive change in their communities.

America is at a critical crossroads. The choices that U.S. elected officials make in connection with the role of government and its finances over the next 5 years will largely determine whether America's collective future will be better than its past. What are America's fiscal facts? What are sensible solutions to America's fiscal challenges? How will these solutions work to make America stay great? How can the American Dream stay alive for today's families and future generations of Americans? David Walker is the Founder, President, and CEO of the Comeback America Initiative (CAI), where he leads CAI's efforts to promote fiscal responsibility and sustainability by engaging the public and assisting key policymakers on a nonpartisan basis to help achieve solutions to America's federal, state, and local fiscal imbalances. Previously, he served as the first President and CEO of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation. Walker served as the seventh U.S. Comptroller General and head of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (1998-2008). This was one of Walker's three presidential appointments, each by different Presidents during his 15 years of total federal service. He also has more than 20 years of private sector experience, including as a Partner and Global Managing Director of Human Capital Services for Arthur Andersen LLP. He has authored three books, with the latest one entitled Comeback America: Turning the Country Around and Restoring Fiscal Responsibility (2010). He is a frequent writer and media commentator, and is a subject of the critically acclaimed documentary I.O.U.S.A.
