Bible study reflection solo or with friends is an inspirational segment for Johnathan as a result of getting together for bible study with friends Erik and Jennifer and still having more to say. Thus far, the segment is about unpacking different passages of scripture read in bible study and feeling the need to explore it even more deeply. On Today's episode Johnathan reveals what bible verse changed his life forever. The suggestion that Johnathan makes in the beginning about grabbing a notepad is something you should consider because there are a lot of biblical references. Get ready to learn something that could be beneficial for you in the long run!
As we continue with the Gospel of Matthew series this week I was reminded of episode 155 a verse will do and I remember how I spoke about the importance of how a single verse can be all you need when faced with life's trouble. Reading the Word of God is designed to give you hope but most importantly strengthen your faith. Now if you don't believe it, guess what? the significance and value of biblical passages will not disappear. Yes I know it's important to appreciate a whole chapter but there is something about a verse that seems to get overlooked. The focus of this episode was to elaborate even more than part 1 however God had other plans Part 2 won't just cover how the truth shall see you free. The intention behind Part 2 was to dive even deeper with the meaning of Matthew 10:28 which required a whole episode to unpack and if you tune in you will understand why it took a whole episode to explain at length and in greater detail.
Things happen. Or they don't. How then should we make sense of claims that something might happen? If all these claims do is express doubt, then the puzzle can be easily resolved. But if the claims capture some objective feature of the world, what is it?Our guest is Alastair Wilson, a professor of philosophy at the University of Leeds. He takes chance seriously, in particular, he is a realist about our modal claims (claims like “either candidate could win” or “if Szilard hadn't got Spanish flu, the atom bomb would not have been invented”) may be true or false, not just opinions or expressions of ignorance.Alastair does this by connecting our modal talk to Everettian quantum mechanics. He argues that modal claims are assertions about the many worlds within the universal wavefunction. If in all worlds where Szilard did not succumb to Spanish flu, the atom bomb was never invented, then this claim would be true.It is a bold and fascinating way of bringing physics and metaphysics together. What can happen, what is possible, what could have been? These become questions for natural science. Alastair's website Nature of Contingency: Quantum Physics as Modal Realism
Continuing with The Gospel of Matthew series we take a look at Matthew 10:24-25 and examine the teacher and student relationship from a historical aspect. What you will find is the typical relationship between a teacher and student over the years normally sparks competition with differences and similarities. However when you look at the relationship between teacher and student the conclusions are not the same in fact the intentions are just to build and establish the body. There is no desire to declare war on differences instead there is mutual agreement. Tune in so that you can understand why. What makes Christianity different are these discoveries once compared to the perspective of the World.
This week however it was a scripture in Bible study that had me thinking deeply. It actually was two conversations I had with friends that inspired me to wanna have this conversation. This week I reflect on trials and tribulation and when they arrive the first person that you need to come to isn't your friends, family, brothers and sister in Christ, nor counsel but God. I touch on the importance of responding instead of reacting to things that happen to you. The verse that brought it all together is Ephesians 4:26.
This week Johnathan made a conscious decision to take a deep dive into the Word of God from a Philosophical approach in the Gospel of Matthew specifically chapter 9 verses 32-34. The intent was to dig deep from a biblical and Philosophical perspective. What made him decide to do this is because he felt the need to speak on this portion of scripture. Without question he had questions and thoughts and figured why not explore some things and see what the Word of God had to say about things such as: biblical historical events, miracles, and prophecy and why was Jesus rejected when it came to him helping others as evidence of God sending Him. He found himself being kind of mind blown with what he discovered while confirming some things he knew. See if you agree or disagree after taking a listen. The goal of course is to explore the Word of God honestly and with the intent to learn and strengthen your faith in Jesus Christ. The more you learn about your savior the more equipped you will be to discuss Him with believers and unbelievers.
What we are we talking about when we talk about God? The God image that has dominated Western history is of an “old man in the sky.” Even if we know this image is metaphorical and laughable, it nevertheless dominates the Western imagination: God is “up there,” transcendent, and we are “down here.” In this episode, we discuss why how we talk about God is so important, because it influences how we think about all sorts of things. And we explore how cultivating a philosophy of the Divine as immanent—“right here”—can change our values and how we not only experience but also participate in the world around us.

When thinking about authentic discipleship it's about the commitment for the cause and the belief in the person, man or woman who shapes your worldview. Tune in to think Critically about what it really means to be a disciple. What's the difference between Inheritance from a worldly view in comparison to what it means from a biblical perspective. Today I welcome philosopher and teacher Keith Maggie Brown. Keith “Maggie” Brown is a Denton-based poet-philosopher, spiritual counselor, and mind-walker. Besides their academic co-publications and intermittent podcasting, Maggie creates aphorisms to encourage their friends on the way to self-actualization. They have directed a few conferences at the University of North Texas in Denton since 1998: the North Texas Heidegger Symposium; Process Studies in Pedagogy; and the UNT Comics, Graphic Novel, and Serial Arts Studies Workshop. Besides being a lifetime member of the Karl Jaspers Society of North America, they also are a member in good standing with other philosophy groups like the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy as well as the Society for Phenomenology and the Human Sciences. Along with mentoring youth who want to practice philosophizing as a way of life, Maggie works to make ancient texts more accessible for 21st-century readers. Among his collaborations are a translation of the Dao De Jing with Prof. LU Wenlong of Dalian University and Greek Natural Philosophy: The Presocratics and Their Importance for Environmental Philosophy with Profs. J. Baird Callicott and John van Buren. After completing their M.A. in Philosphy (2016), they now are close to completing their dissertation for the Ph.D. at UNT-Denton: “Untying the [K]nots that Bind: Existential Elucidation and the Transgressive Life.” Maggie's work focuses on queering academic research and weirding professional philosophy.

There is a lingering threat to Western society. It is hundreds of thousands of years old. It has the power to turn men ultra powerful and make women powerless. It is known as hypergamy. This podcast is the second of a three part inquiry into the matter.

Not sure why we are calling this one Philsophy, but we try and get deep!!
Many objections and challenges have come in recently after the last couple debates so I thought it would be useful to do a stream specifically on several fundamental philosophical questions and challenges. Most people are not familiar with the basics of philosophy, yet attempt to engage in debates and discourses on highly philosophic subjects. In this talk we will consider the three branches once again, as well as the assumptions of these branches and modernity's deconstructing of them leading to atheism and scientism.

[This show first aired March 17, 2008.] Michael Anissimov discusses transhumanism and its philosophical underpinnings. "Transhumanism as Simplified Humanism" – Eliezer Yudkowsky Stephen mentioned the (very) short story he wrote about Leon Kass. It is titled "The Treatment." "One of the biggest flaws in the common conception of the future is that the future is something that happens to us, not something we create." - Michael Anissimov This quote was first published here at The Speculist and was reprinted in Kurzweil's The Singularity is Near. Michael Anissimov pointed us to both the A.I. Panic! blog and to the Lifeboat Foundation.

SPECIAL BROADCAST....Tonight it is my pleasure to interview Karin Larsson, ordained priest in The Church of Sweden, a Lutheran-Evangelical Christian Church that recognizes Apostolic Succession and which appointed a woman to it's highest office. We'll be discussing if Feminism and Christian Philsophy are compatible. We'll delve into how the Church of Sweden might be different than what most listeners might define as Christianity, what it's like to be an ordained priest in the Church of Sweden and tending to a congregation officiating church services. I'll ask Karin about the role women's movements within the Church were a factor in increasing equality within the church, if feminism is an important part of theology and the similarities between feminism and Jesus' teachings. (Rev. Larsson speaks for herself and of her own experiences/opinions and not The Church of Sweden)
