What happens when a teenager asks, “Why are you in a wheelchair?” at the bar... and it's not weird at all? In this episode, Sean and Kyle reflect on what it means to be curious, considerate, and occasionally oblivious when it comes to disability—and why teens might just be winning in the empathy department. From cruise ship conversations to elevator etiquette, we explore how age, culture, and confidence shape the way people react (or don't react) to disability. Then we catch up with our good friend Matt Lafleur—writer, rare disease advocate, and now children's book author! Willow has been here at the prospect park zoo for about three years, she is pretty great gregarious ,charismatic ,obviously ,very cute . She is just a lot of fun to work with . In the wild , red pandas would spend a lot of time up in trees , red pandas are endangered so it's important that we breed them to help keep our population in zoo's healthy . We were able to successfully ultrasound her and confirm that there is at least one cub there , the vet wasn't sure how many ,so we're just waiting to see .Red pandas have what's called delayed implantation ,delay implantation is when a fertilized egg lies in a dormant state , and is to be an implanted later when the situation is right for that species . So we don't have know exactly when that happens ,that's why we don't have an exact date for birth .Habitat destruction is really impacting, red panda is in particular .so To have a birth of a red panda is really important . Welcome back, Herders to the next episode! Today we will be learning about the evasive and secretive creature known as the Red Panda or known as the Fire Fox! Red pandas live in the temperate forest zone of the Himalayan ecosystem between 2200 and 5000 metres. Their distribution is associated closely with temperate forests having bamboo thickets, which are the main diet of red pandas. However, red pandas have a carnivore-type digestive anatomy, specialized for digesting protein and fats (as is found in meat) and no modification for digesting fibres and carbohydrates – the main nutrients of their natural diet. In captivity, it is often not possible to supply enough palatable bamboo on which red pandas can survive. Historically, palatable captive diets were developed based less on natural feeding ecology than on ingredients used in feeding more omnivorous species (i.e. dogs, primates). Such diets have subsequently been proven inappropriate for optimal health of the red pandas.

Red pandas are small mammals native to the mountainous forests of China, India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar. Unlike their name suggests, they are not related to giant pandas. In fact, red pandas are distant relatives of raccoons. Renowned for their tree-climbing abilities, red pandas live at moderately high elevations in the Himalayas where they forage […]

The red panda (Ailurus fulgens) is a cat-sized mammal native to the Himalayas and China. Despite being protected in all countries it has ranges in, the red pandas' populations continue to decline. Red pandas are the original pandas; they were 'discovered' by Europeans first and their discovery gave rise to the name panda, and giant pandas were later named after them. However, we now know that red pandas and giant pandas are not related. So which species is the "true" panda? Depends on who you ask. But, since the word Panda actually means bamboo eater, are they not both true pandas? There are two subspecies of Red Pandas: the Chinese red panda and the Himalayan red panda. There are fewer than 10,000 Red Pandas left in the wild, and with its populations scattered in small pockets it could easily be wiped out. Red pandas are mostly-vegetarian carnivores, which seems counterintuitive. However, the carnivore classification doesn't necessarily coincide with an animal's dietary preference. So while a majority of their red panda diet is bamboo, which they luckily digest slightly better than the Giant Panda, they are still classified as carnivores because of their evolutionary history. The red panda diet isn't the only trait they share with giant pandas. Both animals also independently evolved a pseudo-thumb, which they both use to help them eat bamboo. Red Pandas evolved these false thumbs before they started eating bamboo, though, and this false thumb might be why Red Pandas started eating bamboo in the first place. Listen now to find out more about the red panda and why it was once described as 'the most beautiful animal.' In The Good The Bad The NewsPixar's newest movie 'Turning Red' is considered a controversial movie by some, all for stupid reason. Yes, there was 13 year old girl cringe, but that's not what the controversy is about. Cat One-eyed Joe (Dexter) has returned home after a 5 year journey that included a luxury stay at a prison and being spoiled on an oil rig. Also, dog breed has little effect on dog behavior.
On today's show Jack is joined by Terrance Fleming, the Development Manager of the Red Panda Network! Terrance is here to introduce the wonderful world of Red Pandas! This includes an exploration of the species name, its adaptations, and its relationship with the Giant Panda! The duo also discuss how the Red Panda Network is working across the globe to raise awareness of, and secure a future for these incredible little creatures! Furthermore, the pair discuss Disney Pixar's 'Turning Red', how Terrance first fell in love with the Red Panda, and what inspired him to want to work with this incredible species! What is really special about this episode is that it is the first of two dedicated to the Red Panda! While this week we are focusing on the work that goes on around the world to support the species, next week we will be back to discuss the Red Panda Network's in situ conservation efforts. Turning Red, Copyright 2022 Disney PixarClips used for educational purposes only..This site is for educational purposes only!! **FAIR USE**Copyright Disclaimer under section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for “fair use” for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, education and research. One of the most important jobs we have as parents involves shaping the worldview of our children...much of this is done in the context of the things that your children watch, read, music, entertainment, social influences... Remember, nothing is neutral! Both the Apostle Paul and John tell us to "try the spirits whether they are of God." This is a process of discernment, testing to see if what is being communicated lines up with Scripture. In this movie we found five major areas of concern where there are clear worldview concerns for our family. 1. Infatuation with boys-Mei is 13...and boy crazy...an all consuming infatuation with boys. There are boys at school, boys at the convenience store, boys in commercials, and the major crush...the boy band 4Town-She even is found hiding under her bed using her imagination to draw pictures of half-naked boys. *This worldview develops an unhealthy pattern of how to relate to young men, sets up unrealistic expectations, and develops a disposable philosophy on relationships. 2. Unhealthy relationship with her parentsFrom the very beginning of the movie the main character is burdened with overbearing and demanding parents...with their own unrealistic expectations about their daughter. The mother that is overreactive, out of touch (embarrassing her daughter), filled with anger (releases her own inner panda at the end of the movie..the daughter ends up saving her)The father is passive, indecisive, weak... *There is total disunity in the home...parents disagree on almost every major issue...and of course the "right" course of action is what the strong decisive mother chooses 3. Parents are the source of the tensionMei is told she can't go to see the band. The entire middle portion of the movie is about the plan to go behind her parents back and go to the concert anyway. The tension isn't created because of her desire to disobey...it's in her parents unwillingness to give in to what she wants *Secondary tension...the panda within is something her mom warns her about but she chooses to embrace anyway. At the end of movie she embraces her inner panda and walks out of the temple with a red panda tail coming out from her skirt...she was right for what she did and her actions are justified by the outcome. 4. Anger as a legitimate expression of inner tensionInitially the panda comes up with any type of extreme emotion, anger, sadness, cuteness... Later, the panda is something she can control and bring out whenever she wants. However, in the end of the movie, the panda is an expression of her and her mother's anger. Her mom turns into a giant 100 foot tall red panda with red eyes, like Godzilla. An epic battle between Mei and her mother, both as Red Pandas...of course Mei wins with her friends cheering her on5. The most dangerous theme is that of self-acceptance when it clashes with parental expectations...this is not a covert theme...it is laid out in the open throughout the whole movie. "My Panda, My Choice" is a play on "my body, my choice" the rally cry for pro-abortion crowd. While the context of the statement is regarding her autonomy, it is borrowed from abortion proponents. "We all have an inner beast, a messy and weird part of ourselves that's hidden away. Many people never let it out. I did . How about you?"Translated: What is the messy inner beast that you feel a little weird about, that your parents don't accept you for? ...I fought to let it out and embrace it...you should too!If you let the entertainment of the world fill the mind of your kids, don't be surprised when they turn out believing the same things the world believes. Entertainment is not neutral.
