Mike's Bio: Mike Simpson was born the oldest of two children in Redondo Beach California. At the age of 11, his father's employment with Rockwell International caused his family to relocate to Tehachapi California, where Mike would go on to attend high school and play football for the Tehachapi Warriors. Growing up in a working class family in a rural community, Mike developed an interest in hunting and fishing, and learned a love for the outdoors which would stay with him throughout his life. It was his love of the outdoors, as well as his interest in firearms and military history, that would ultimately lead to his enlistment in the United States Army after his graduation from high school in 1984. After graduating with his Medical Doctorate, Mike trained in Emergency Medicine, and still maintains a medical practice as a board certified EM physician in the state of Texas. As an Army physician, Mike was assigned to the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), and deployed multiple times in direct support of the Global War on Terror (GWOT). During that time period, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with V device for valor in combat, as well as the Combat Medical Badge, for performing his duties as an Emergency Medicine Physician under enemy fire. Mike is possibly best known as a member of the investigative team on two seasons of the documentary-reality series “Hunting Hitler” on The History Channel. My guest today is Steve Ornest a rock multi instrumentalist, engineer, and producer in Redondo Beach CA. Steve learned his studio skills at Total Access Recording under the guidance of Wyn Davis (RSR192) starting at the young age of 15. Steve started out playing guitar for rock sessions by bands like Don Dokken, Minoru Nihara (Loudness), and many others, but fast forward to the present and Steve is now running the studio with Wyn. Steve's mission has been to reinvigorate the local South Bay music scene by making it affordable for young local artists to come in and work on their song, EP or album and walk away with the same commercially competitive results Total Access has become known for over the past forty years. Aside from working with incredible local talent like Joker's Hand, Mor Flowrs and Hand Drawn Maps, Steve continues to work on records for legacy artists such as Foreigner and Dio. Steve is currently working on a record with country artist Annie Bosko, which features a duet with country legend Vince Gill. Steve has also worked alongside producers Ken Scott (Beatles, Elton John, Supertramp), Eric Sarafin (Ben Harper, Amy Grant), and many others.  Steve recently opened a 1000sq ft rehearsal suite steps away from the studio, called Total Access Rehearsal. The idea was born from a frustration at the lack of rehearsal studios in Los Angeles, particularly in the South Bay. The suite boasts an acoustically treated showcase room, top-of-the-line gear, a private lounge/bathroom, A/C, free water and coffee, private parking, and convenient roll-up entry. Total Access Recording has an extensive client list including L.A. punk band Black Flag and many SST Records artists, Husker-Du, The Descendants, then flourishing in the 80's hair metal era recording Dokken, Great White, and White Lion, followed in the 90's with post-punk artists; Sublime, No Doubt, Pennywise, Slightly Stoopid and others.  Get access to FREE mixing mini-course: http://MixMasterBundle.com THANKS TO OUR SPONSORS! https://RecordingStudioRockstars.com/Academy Use code ROCKSTAR to get 10% https://samplyaudio.com Use code RSR20 to get 20% off for the first 3 months https://www.Spectra1964.com http://MacSales.com/Rockstars http://iZotope.com/Rockstars use code ROCK10 for 10% off http://www.thetoyboxstudio.com http://UltimateMixingMasterclass.com Hear guests discography on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1GUS4vcFjyIvjRy8RYDwKi?si=3c12b4cd6c2b4f0c If you love the podcast, then please leave a review: https://RSRockstars.com/Review CLICK HERE FOR COMPLETE SHOW NOTES AT: http://RSRockstars.com/357

They said I could have what they had, with no conditions attached, that all I had to do was make my own decision to join them on the pathway to recovery. I met Cammy through a mutual friend. We were at BJ having food. She seemed very quiet and reserved. But when we sat down and talked about her story, she is a woman on a mission. "You have to do what you have to do" People may see Cammy now and think she's an overnight success, but she is far from that. 20 years in business. I hope you enjoy this episode, it's the last one of 2019!!! My guest today is Wyn Davis and I am going to read his bio to you know because it tells his story well: I started playing guitar when I was 10. I grew up in Southern California and was influenced by all the music that was created here and in Northern California. Beachboys, Doors, Canned Heat, Spirit, Jefferson Airplane, Frank Zappa, all of it. I think the releases of 1967-1968, the folk music, the rock music, the psychedelic music, the British invasion, all of it was the foundation of my ear. I played in bands and in 1974 moved to New York and performed throughout the North East at over 200 colleges and universities. In 1981 I opened my studio in Redondo Beach, California and named it Total Access after a backstage pass I’d been given a few weeks earlier by George Massenburg when he was mixing FOH for Earth Wind and Fire. I imagined I’d be able to record my own music but quickly found out that keeping a studio open required clients. By word of mouth, the studio gained a reputation as a place where young bands could record in professionally designed space and come away with competitive results.  Thanks to our sponsors!
