Can intention alone cause changes in physical systems? Can the collective attention of a large group of people to an event cause changes in the coherence changes in physical systems, despite that lack of intention to do so?In today's episode we're going to be exploring a field consciousness hypothesis: so a variation on the idea that consciousness may extend beyond the body and interact casually with physical systems and the consciousness of other beings, in some kind of resonant field phenomena. We're going to be learning about the experiments with random number generators used to test this hypothesis; how human intention and attention has been proved to be able to affect these random outputs in a vast backlog of positive results and meta analyses; We're going to hear about how these experiments have been taken global, looking at collective effects on RNGs of particularly important world events that many people are attending to; we're going to be looking at criticisms of the statistical analysis and a potential experimenter effect; and we're going to be talking about the contrast between some seemingly non-local effects with other localised effects; and as always we're going to be getting into the implications, in this case of whether the ‘field consciousness' effect the data seems to point to, is more likely to be a unified field of consciousness, so in some sense a single mind, or simply the aggregated sum of all individual consciousnesses. Now fortunately to guide us as we carefully test the thickness of the ice on this genuinely alternative world view of consciousness, we have the cognitive psychologist that has pioneered these field consciousness experiments since he founded the Global Consciousness Project at the Princeton University PEAR labs, Roger Nelson. Roger worked at Princeton's PEAR labs in the department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, initially under Bob Jahn, for over twenty years until his retirement in 2002. He is also the author of the book “Connected: The emergence of global consciousness”.What we discuss:00:00 Intro.07:30 Random Number generator ‘mind-matter interaction' experiments at Princeton PEAR labs.21:10 Bob Jahn - Dean of Engineering at Princeton.28:45 Emotional and passionate group events saw coherence in the RNG experiments. 33:00 Contrast between apparent local and non-local effects.37:55 David Bohm's Implicate / Explicate order concept.38:55 “Pilot wave” and “active information” link between the implicite and the explicate.43:55 Statistical results generation and analysis of significance.49:05 The sceptics criticisms.51:45 The Global Consciousness Project methodology. 53:05 Pierre Teilhard de Chardin's mind sphere, called ‘Noosphere'.57:45 Measuring the group coherence of Princess Diana's funeral.01:00:25 The 9/11 Results.01:05:55 The emotional component in coherence.01:18:40 The quantity of people and strength of the emotion, whether positive or negative, raises the effect size.01:11:10 A single collective consciousness VS an aggregate of all individual consciousnesses. 01:14:50 Different levels of collective consciousness above individual bodies.01:16:55 The analogy of individuals being like neurones in a cosmic brain.01:20:55 The Experimenter effect criticism.01:26:10 The Helmut Schmidt “Unobserved tape” experiment.01:29.10 The indeterminate state before observer ‘collapses of the wave function' analogy to explain results.01:37:25 The Schmidt ‘retrocausation' hypothesis.References:Roger Nelson, “Connected: the Emergence of Global Consciousness”Robert Jahn And Brenda Dunn, “Margins of Reality”International Consciousness Research Laboratories (ICRL) Publishing.Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, “The Phenomena of man”

You might think that the transition from a working risk management professional to a working skydiver might be a pretty over the top choice, and you'd be right; but to Dave Cicciarelli it was one of the easiest choices he ever made. With roots in skydiving that stretch back to the late 80's, and a career that kicked off properly when he went to work managing the AFP program for Roger Nelson, Dave's career has gone from Illinois, to Florida, New Zealand to Australia. Staring down his 60's and still going strong as a working skydiver, Dave Cicciarelli is the perfect Lunatic Fringe example of longevity in a sport that isn't just for kids!

THE PHYSICS OF RETRO-CAUSATION AND TIME SYMMETRY - Daniel Sheehan PHD #60

Can time symmetry in physics, combined with exceptional violations of the 2nd law of thermodynamics, and the “quantum handshake” transactional interpretation of Quantum mechanics, open up main stream physics to the possibility of retro-causation? Could it help to explain the many paradoxes left open in modern physics? and is there experimental evidence for it? Today we have the extraordinary possibility of retro-causation to get our heads around: the apparently impossible phenomenon of events in the present causing changes in the past, or future events having an effect in the present depending on how you want to look at it. Today we'll be approaching this topic via the context of time symmetry in physics. As far back as 1947, French quantum physicist Olivier Costa de Beauregard, began to question the usual interpretation of time in quantum mechanics, intuiting that something was missing from the model for the many paradoxes in Quantum Mechanics to remain unexplained. And then, with others get on board over the years, in the 80's, John G Kramer, agreed that the missing ingredient was found in time symmetry and he proposed a ‘quantum handshake' between the waves passing forward and backward in time at the moment of collapse; in this Transactional Interpretation of quantum mechanics, Kramer claimed he had solved the paradoxes. My guest today has put together this research, a re-interpretation of the 2nd law of thermodynamics based on violations where Entropy exceptionally does not hold, and theorisation about quantum correlates to consciousness to create a new theory of retro-causation, which he thinks can be tested. He is Daniel Sheehan, Author and Professor of Physics at the University of San Diego, specialist in plasma physics, violations of the 2nd Law thermodynamics and Retro-causation. He is the founder the Quantum Retro-causation symposia that met at The University of San Diego. Do the emotions and intentions we collectively experience shape our physical reality? Dr. Roger Nelson, the scientist behind the Global Consciousness Project, joins us to share his insights into the unseen connections that bind us. Our discussion illuminates how the GCP's network of random number generators (RNG) across the globe is able to measure the collective mind of humanity. A revolutionary initiative, the experiments have shown intriguing results, where significant global events - moments of profound tragedy or celebration - seem to correspond with statistical deviations in the data produced by RNGs. These findings suggest that the collective human consciousness might be more intertwined with the physical world than previously thought; emotions and consciousness are not just byproducts but potent forces that could be shaping the very fabric of reality. We discuss why high levels of emotion, either consonant or dissonant, affect the coherency of the field of consciousness. He shares with us the idea that mind is non-local and explains how the substrate of mind can be whittled down to information and patterns. Dr. Nelson guides us through the scientific principles and the inspiring implications of these findings, opening our eyes to the profound potential locked within our collective intentions. We consider what it would mean to integrate this paradigm in which we are far more connected and what challenges we would face to become truly responsible at individual and collective levels. As we close this episode, the call to action seems clear; a need to nurture our awareness and actively contribute to the conscious evolution of our global community. Join us in this thought-provoking discussion that challenges the boundaries of what we consider possible and invites us to step into a more connected and conscious future.Roger Nelson, PhD, studied physics at the University of Rochester, and experimental psychology at New York University and Columbia. He is the author of two books including Connected: The Emergence of Global Consciousness. He was Professor of Psychology at Johnson State College in Vermont, and in 1980 joined the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research (PEAR) lab to coordinate research. His focus is on mental interactions, anomalous information transfer, and effects on physical systems by individuals and groups. He created the GCP in 1997, building a world-spanning random number generator network designed to gather evidence of coalescing global consciousness. These are icy creations you can see, and sometimes even interact with. Many are at festivals. Examples include the Knickerbocker Festival in Lake Mills, named after a company that harvested ice from the city's own Rock Lake. They offer plenty of fun activities, including ice sculpting demonstrations throughout the downtown area and an ice bar with Tyranena Brewing Company, which was named after the lake's original name. Other fun activities like ice golfing, ice skating, and an activity named “Ididherdad” which you'll just have to hear about in the episode. This year, it takes place February 3-4, 2024.Lake Geneva offers similar fun from January 30-February 4 with their classic Winterfest and US National Snow Sculpting Competition, which also features ice sculptures meticulously crafted and presented at locations throughout the city's downtown. You can also enjoy Winter Realms at Geneva National in the Lake Geneva area, which opens in January and will continue as long as the weather allows. Winter Realms is an update of the annual Ice Castles event, featuring sleigh rides, an ice volcano, igloos, tubing activities, mesmerizing ice sculptures, and ice slides. Meander among snow caverns, tunnels and an ice throne as you experience a world of winter magic. More ice-filled events kicking off in January include the massive Waukesha Jan-Boree, a 10-day festival encompassing activities across the city from January 19-28. Ice-related activities include sculpting demos and completed works, ice skating, ice dancing, ice fishing clinics, and more. More sculptures and crafted ice art can be found nearby at events like New Berlin's Winterfest January 6th and Dela-FREEZE in Delafield January 13th with live ice carvings taking place throughout the day.At the other end of the state, late January features the Lake Superior Ice Festival in Superior the weekend of January 26th & 27th, which not only has ice carving and sculptures but an ice throne you can sit on! Just not for too long…That weekend kicks off Friday the 25th with the Winterfest Ice Carving Competition in Green Bay, which pins carvers against each other to create works of art that are proudly displayed in the Broadway District for as long as the weather allows. And yes, they have an ice throne, too!February festivals featuring ice carvings and sculptures include the Kenosha Snow Daze Festival February 4th, which includes tons of demonstrations; Winterfest in Cedarburg February 16-17, where the ice sculpting is a contest; and Appleton's Avenue of Ice, which debuts the 3rd weekend in February every year with over 30 unique ice sculptures displayed in front of the unique boutiques, specialty shops and restaurants.Other sites for ice sculptures include Roger Nelson's Ice Formations, which is a place in Maiden Rock where the Rush River rushes towards the Mississippi and pushes enough water and ice up strategically placed wood and other materials to freeze on them and create some unique looks people are welcome to come and see. They have a Facebook page with photos and regular updates, as Mother Nature basically makes these at random. One fantastic annual creation is in Eagle River: the Ice Castle. The beautiful monument to the city that heads up the World's Largest Chain of Interconnected Freshwater Lakes and Snowmobile Capital of the World is perched at the western edge of the city's downtown right where all the main roads converge. It dates back to 1933 and began with only 250 blocks of ice; today it utilizes over 3,000 blocks and rises over 20 feet, incorporating obelisks and colored flood lights that bring illumination all night long. The Ice Castle, made from foot-thick blocks of ice harvested from nearby lakes and rivers, generally rises around New Year's and stays as long as weather allows. It's a staple of Eagle River's winters almost every year and a beautiful sculpture creation done by volunteers.Companies like designed by Krystal Kleer Ice Sculptures, LLC and Art Below Zero often create the ice sculptures for events, but many establishments hire companies and artists like these to create ice bars for them that patrons love to frequent whilst imbibing outdoors in the cold months. Ice Bars get set up in places like Titletown District establishments in Green Bay, Belair Cantina at The Corners of Brookfield in the Town of Brookfield, Third Ward and the Milwaukee Public Market in Milwaukee, at the Baker House during Winterfest in Lake Geneva, and many more spots around the state. Look forward to the big freeze and enjoy these icy works of art this winter in Wisconsin! Knickerbocker Ice Festival in Lake Mills info: https://enjoyjeffersoncounty.com/events/lake-mills-knickerbocker-ice-festival/Winterfest/US National Snow Sculpting Competition in Lake Geneva info: https://www.visitlakegeneva.com/winterfest/Winter Realms at Geneva National: https://www.winterrealms.com/winter-realms-lake-geneva/Cedarburg Winterfest: https://www.cedarburgfestival.org/winterfestNew Berlin Winterfest: https://www.newberlinwi.gov/1064/WinterfestKenosha Snow Daze: https://www.visitkenosha.com/event/snow-daze-festival/461/Lake Superior Ice Festival: https://lakesuperioricefestival.com/Green Bay Winterfest: https://downtowngreenbay.com/explore/broadway-events/winterfestonbroadwayDelaFREEZE: https://delafieldchamber.com/delafreezeWaukesha JanBoree: https://www.janboree.org/Rush River Ice Sculptures Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/people/Rush-River-Ice-Sculptures/100070987761204/Inside Sponsors:Jefferson County -  https://bit.ly/3gt0NauShop Discover Wisconsin - https://shop.discoverwisconsin.com

Roger joins us from Ithaca, NY at his home in an eco-village. Roger was (is) a musician and psychologist when he applied to Princeton as a leading researcher to one of America's leading consciousness, called PEAR (Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research Lab). Among other things, Roger at PEAR investigated the influence of human thoughts on physical reality. In this conversation he brings us through his research on and belief in the importance of Global Consciousness. His studies have been focused on measuring and registering signs of any kind of coherent global consciousness that would come into being by an event that engaged the attention of a large number of people that would stimulate a synchronized set of emotions. We learn how the founder of PEAR, Robert Jahn (also the Dean of Engineering) spent a great deal of time defending the lab from peers who refused to visit (reminds us of the historical figures who refused to look through Galileo's telescope because they wished to simply deny his findings). We learn from Roger fascinating topics like the “noosphere”, the relevancy of human rituals, McDonnell Douglas sponsoring of Roger's studies on “gremlin” activity in the cockpit of military bomber flights, mining the psychic atmosphere and the act of falling in love. We discuss the importance of music, the thrill of artistic creation, “making sounds together” and the difference between skeptics and deniers. Roger also shares with us what he would like to be doing once he transitions to the other side. 100% skeptical and 100% open-minded. A thank you to our friend Stephan Schwartz (ep 155). Fun thing about the home run chains is that they cut both ways. Take any pitcher who pitched long enough, and they gave up home runs. Like, say, an unrepentant domestic abuser and cheater who happened to get 27 straight outs last night against the 21st century Cleveland Spiders, the team you may remember from yesterday's post about the 1899 Washington Senators finishing 35 games ahead of them, in next-to-last, also-went-out-of-business-after-the-season place. Congratulations or something. Baseball immortality.* Domingo Germán gave up his first home run to Yuli Gurriel, 7/2/17* Yuli Gurriel hit his first home run off Andrew Miller, 9/7/16* Andrew Miller gave up his first home run to David Wright, 6/10/17* David Wright hit his first home run off John Patterson, 7/26/04* John Patterson gave up his first home run to Tom Lampkin, 7/20/02* Tom Lampkin hit his first home run off Mike Scott, 7/28/90* Mike Scott gave up his first home run to Bill Fahey, 5/13/79* Bill Fahey hit his first home run off Roger Nelson, 9/4/72* Roger Nelson gave up his first home run to Tony Horton, 9/22/67* Tony Horton hit his first home run off Fred Talbot, 8/8/64* Fred Talbot gave up his first home run to Luis Aparicio, 6/11/64* Luis Aparicio hit his first home run off Tommy Lasorda, 5/28/56* Tommy Lasorda gave up his first home run to Bill Sarni, 8/5/54* Bill Sarni hit his first home run off Bob Miller, 6/6/54* Bob Miller gave up his first home run to Hank Thompson, 5/14/50* Hank Thompson hit his first home run off Tiny Bonham, 7/16/49* Tiny Bonham gave up his first home run to Jimmie Foxx, 8/5/40Foxx connects us to the Francisco Álvarez home run chain, running all the way back to one of baseball's all-time scoundrels, in a different way, Charlie Comiskey. Probably also not great with misogyny or racism, being a 19th century baseball player and 20th century baseball owner. It could be worse. Gurriel hit his second home run one day later in Cleveland off some dude who's currently in Japan. Pity, because Germán, Gurriel, and that guy all are worthy riders of the baseball submersible to be launched later.Miller “saved” it from being a total rogues' gallery, so how cool is it that David Wright's home run chain goes to Mike Scott… who gave up his second and third home runs (while pitching for the Mets) to Keith Hernandez (in his MVP season with the Cardinals)? Also, it should be noted, Hank Thompson hit home runs for the Kansas City Monarchs before he smashed 129 in eight seasons with the New York Giants. These home run chains rely on the Baseball-Reference home run logs, which are powered by a SABR database. Maybe the day will come when more information is added to that database — maybe there's an account of the home run that Thompson hit for the 1943 Monarchs as a 17-year-old. He was the third Black player in MLB, debuting for the St. Louis Browns just 12 days after Larry Doby integrated the American League. Thompson was also the first Black player for the Giants, debuting for New York on the same day as Monte Irvin, July 8, 1949 — a week later, he got on the board with the first of those 129 National League dingers. If you've ever been in a situation where several people were experiencing the same emotions together – such as at a sporting event, a religious service, or even when a large-scale tragedy sparks feelings of sadness or fear – you may have felt a heightened sense of connection with those around you. The concepts of consciousness and global consciousness can help explain this connectivity while offering hope for the beautiful world that we have the potential to create.  As the Director of the Global Consciousness Project (GCP), which he established in 1997 at Princeton University, Dr. Roger Nelson has decades of experience researching mental interactions, anomalous information transfer, and effects on random systems by individuals and groups. He is also the author and coauthor of over 100 technical papers and three books, including “Connected: The Emergence of Global Consciousness,” and has built a world-spanning random number generator network designed to gather evidence of a coalescing global consciousness. In Episode 133 of The MINDSet Game® podcast, Dr. Nelson discusses the following: The meaning of consciousness and global consciousness, as well as an overview of the research conducted by the GCP How the random number generator works, including the fascinating results that occur around events that trigger widespread emotional reactions How to become more conscious in order to radiate a higher frequency vibration out into the field To learn more about Dr. Nelson and his research, visit http://www.global-mind.org or look for his book, “Connected.”  To subscribe to The MINDset Game podcast, visit www.TheMINDsetGame.com.

It began with an early interest in not just the science of the mind but, the science of the extent of the mind. "My students were interested in doing experiments in telepathy, psychokinesis and esp ... so I monitored them but of course I was in the process of learning what they were learning. Roger Nelson Director of The Global Consciousness Project discusses is there such a thing as group consciousness and how random number generation is used to research and test field consciousness. Information and structure ... the mind ... has a role and functions in the real world. We are sources of active information. "There is an effect of my [our] intentions in the world."
