On to the movie, Mad Cow: A mad scientist vows to continue his quest to create the perfect super-soldier by Frankensteining a bunch of body parts from powerful physical specimens. What could go wrong? Well, if the only head he has access to is that of a Holstein Friesian, things can go sideway quickly...and boy do they ever. Luckily a crack squad of very special police and the T.W.A.T are around the protect the citizenry. Night of the Wererooster final grade: Steve This one would be an easy top-shelfer, were it not for the last 10 minutes. Bad acting, but funny writing that draws from other classic comedies was great. Unfortunately, gotta dock them for the extended ending. 3.69/5.0 Brandon There were plenty of laughs in this one, but at some point, it seemed like they were trying to hard. The good jokes could have hit better with more setup. Trying to do a Monty Python/National Lampoon/Every other funny move ever got a little busy. 3.56/5 Cocktail of the Week: Gin Daisy 1 1/2 oz Dry Gin, but it was good with "Gin" too 1/2 oz Fancy Grenadine 1/4 oz Benedictine Dom 3/4 oz Fresh-Squeezed Lemon Juice Topo Chico or other sparkling water Add all ingredients to a shaking tin. Shake over ice to combine, then strain over ice in a rocks glass. Top with Topo Chico. Garnish with lemon wheel. Cocktail Grade: Another Anders Erickson homerun. Delicious, refreshing. Goes down faster than you'd think. 5/5 Fancy Grenadine Recipe 450 g granulated sugar 300 g 100% Unsweetened Pomegranate Juice 20 g Pomegranate Molasses 5 ml Rose Water Heat sugar, juice, and molasses to a saucepan. Heat and stir to dissolve sugars. Cool and then stir in the rose water. Today's show opens with yet more revelations about the abject failures of the US Secret Service in the shooting of Donald Trump on Saturday in Butler, PA. According to Senators on a call with USSS, the shooter was listed as a threat a full 10 minutes before Donald Trump walked on stage. How was that even allowed to happen? And, to add even more confusion, a story in the NY Post suggests the shooter had a bicycle at the scene he was using to ride around the look at locations around the event. So, did he bring his bike on the back of the car that he supposedly had rigged with explosives? Then the FBI said they found a message he left on the Steam gaming platform that July 13 was going to be his day. They also said he had a second cell phone with just over two dozen contacts. He may have also used other forms of encrypted communication. The Butler Township Commissioner, Edward Natali, said on social media that the local police had no security detail for former President Donald Trump's rally. He said they only provided seven officers for traffic support. So, someone is definitely lying about the open rooftop, used by the shooter, was supposed to be staffed by a local police sniper team. Is it the locals or is it Director Kim Cheatle? To illustrate all of the issues I detailed yesterday, I stumbled on a satirical response to all of this from Joseph Mallozzi who is a showrunner, Executive Producer and writer for Dark Matter, Stargate: SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis and Stargate: Universe. He reacts to all we've learned thus far as if was the first draft of a techo-thriller being submitted to Netflix. Earlier in the day, Biden said in a BET interview that if he were diagnosed with some serious medical issue, he would consider dropping out of the race. Then, yesterday evening, we hear he tested positive for Covid and is taking the next four days off. Yet, his flight path was cleared for all four day well in advance of the Covid announcement. Maybe he has some other decisions to make? Joy Reid, along with Jen Psaki, made fools of themselves by suggesting that if Biden recovers from his Covid illness, he should project as much strength as Trump did by bouncing back from being shot. What imbeciles. Biden is getting angrier and more unhinged. More Democrats are pushing for him to drop. Time Magazine, at the behest of a push from Legacy/mainstream media voices, has changed it's upcoming cover. It was going to use the iconic picture taken of Trump with his fist in the air. But, media thinks that would be positive PR for Trump, so they changed it to an abandoned and littered event venue, all in black and white save for the flag. At the RNC day three, former acting ICE Director Tom Homan made an interesting comment. He warned the drug cartels that Trump is going to label them as terrorist organizations and will wipe them off the face of the Earth. David Urban on CNN said it is unforgivable that Joe Biden never met with the 13 Gold Star families from his disastrous Afghanistan retreat. To go with that, we have a soundbite from one of the parents, Christy Shamblin. Finally, we close on the most ridiculous moment of the day. MSNBC's Rachel Maddow concludes that fans of The Lord of the Rings are far-right/alt-right fascists and neo-Nazis. That's how far gone Mad Cow's brains really are. Millions of prescriptions of thyroid medication will be filled this year and the vast majority of them will be for levothyroxine. Of those millions, only about 10% or so will go to a class of thyroid medication called natural desiccated thyroid. Despite being only 10% of all prescriptions, thyroid patients have a clear preference for it. Not only does it help with weight loss, but it also can help better control thyroid symptoms based on surveys of thyroid patients. There's only one problem: Doctors don't like to prescribe it. Unfortunately, they are under the impression that NDT is an inferior medication to levothyroxine which is why today, I'm busting these NDT myths. Here they are, in no particular order: 1. Claim #1: Taking NDT Will Cause Bone Loss & Heart Problems Long-term studies show this isn't true PROVIDED you are not taking more than you need. 2. Claim #2: Newer Synthetic Medications Are More Effective The idea here is that NDT may cause side effects because of its T3 content. This may happen, but it's also the reason that people prefer NDT... because it works. 3. Claim #3: NDT is Not FDA-Approved This is true but irrelevant. NDT has been use since 1890 so it was grandfathered into the FDAs newer requirements. 4. Claim #4: NDT is Old-Fashioned This isn't true either as all thyroid medications contain the same bio-identical thyroid hormones. The same T4 that is found in levothyroxine is also found in NDT. 5. Claim #5: Taking NDT Will Cause Mad Cow Disease NDT comes from pigs (not cows), and there's never been a reported case of Mad Cow disease in the US. 6. Claim #6: Taking NDT Will Increase Thyroid Antibodies This is theoretical and may be a problem for a rare subset of people, but not enough to warrant that everyone avoids it. Claim #7: NDT Isn't A Real Medication Because it Can Be Purchased Over The Counter NDT is not the same thing as over-the-counter thyroid glandulars which is what this claim confuses. Greg interviews Ryan Cullinan of the Thailand RH- Blood Donation Facebook group. The guys open with a discussion of the nature of blood donation: everyone knows it exists, everyone knows they SHOULD do it, but due to lack of social pressure, many people never donate. Greg manned up though for this show and went and gave blood. Check out the pics of his adventure below. Ryan tells the story of how he got involved in blood donation in the first place. Long story short, a close friend of his in Thailand was in a motorbike accident and was seriously in need of blood for his treatment. His friend had an RH- blood type, which as Ryan explains, is much more common among Europeans than it is among Asians, putting people of European ancestry (as well as RH- Thais) at great risk of not being able to get the blood they need when in a Thai hospital. As a result of seeing his friend's struggle - which, luckily, had a happy ending - Ryan set up his first FB group dedicated to convincing foreigners to donate blood in Thailand.  The guys continue by getting into some of the interesting facts of blood donation, including the unfortunate exclusion in the past of many people from the EU due to fears over Mad Cow disease. Most importantly, Ryan (and Greg) encourage listeners to head down to the National Blood Center at the Thai Red Cross Society in Bangkok to make your first donation.
