Sermon Title: This Changes Everything, Pt 3 Scripture: Phil. 4:6-8, Eph. 3:14-21, 8-12, Josh. 1:9, Ps. 34:7, Matt. 18:20 & 28:20, Heb. 13:5 Main Points: 1. Fix Your Eyes On God: We tend to believe that the Presence of God is only in church services or in quiet moments. We can invite God's presence into everything in our lives! 2. More Than You Can Imagine: God does not give us his power for our use or to do work through us. He wants to give himself to us; just him for no other reason than relationship. 3. God Is Inviting You: We shy away from God because we feel unworthy. We are sinful, but he is merciful. He longs to bring us to the King's Table and refresh us with his love. 1. What barriers keep you from living in and experiencing the presence of God? 2. When and where do you feel like you are experiencing the presence of God in your life? 3. How could you invite God into the everyday things that keep you busy? 4. Are you a cup or a pitcher? Does God give himself to you for others or just so you can receive? 5. What practical steps can you take in your life to begin practicing the Presence of God? Notes: Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection was a cook in a French monastery who learned that service for God is more than spending time in solitude and silence. While the Monks around him were devoting themselves in solitude, he was devoting himself in service. He invited God into his work, even work that he did not enjoy, and learned how to Practice the Presence of God in everything. The two greatest barriers to God's presence are busyness and worthiness. We think that we can only experience God in services or solitude, but we can invite him into everything and then experience even greater times of joy in those places. We also consider ourselves unworthy. We are unworthy, but Jesus did not come for worthy people. His invitation is not for worthy people. His invitation is that of a King to wretches who have no business in his presence, but whom he desires to invite to his table and feed from his own hands. He delights in wretches and elevates us to the status of “Child of the King.”

I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. Paul's words to the Philippians are packed full of encouragement and guidance in how we are to follow Christ. Can we rejoice? More importantly, can we rejoice... always? Being on Time - Many people have a habit of being late to meetings, work, and appointments. For most people, time is money and they hate for their time to be wasted. Being on time takes zero talent and shows discipline. It gives a good first impression.   Scripture: Psalm 90:12 “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”     According to Rick Warren “Time is your most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it. You can make more money, but you can't make more time.”.   Work Ethic - Cutting corners may seem like the easy way out but it always leads to dead-ends. Doing your work with honesty and dedication will take you to new heights. Take pride in the quality of the work you’re doing.   Scripture: Proverbs 16:3 “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”      “Never stop doing your best, just because someone doesn’t give you credit.”   “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”   “You can’t have a Million Dollar dream, with a minimum wage work ethic.     Effort - Give your everything when you do something. You shouldn’t regret afterward that you didn’t make enough effort to make things happen. Always do your best.   Scripture: Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”     The effort is what it takes to get something done. Your dreams will take time. It will take efforts and require dedication and sacrifice. But in the end, it WILL be worth it.     “Always make a total effort, even when the odds are against you.” - Arnold Palmer The effort will release its reward only after you refuse to quit. Poem - Don’t Quit. (Link below)     Body Language -Your body language speaks volumes about you. Be aware of your body language and make sure it is saying the message you want to communicate.   Scripture 1 Cor 6:19-20 “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.”     “What you do speaks so loud, that I cannot hear what you say.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson       Energy (Motivation) -There can be days in which our energy levels are low, we don’t feel motivated and we don't want to get out bed. Stay focused. Focus on your goals. If you know you’re "Why" it will be easier to stay motivated.     Scripture: Phil 4:13 “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”   Motivation is an inner driving force that pushes you to do and accomplish things. It is comprised of a strong desire, ambition, and the realization of the importance of what to want to do. In order to accomplish anything, you need a driving force, otherwise, nothing would happen. A simple wish is not strong enough to make you take action. A wish is a weak desire, but only a strong desire can drive you forward, to act and accomplish aims and goals. Motivation is awakened by both internal and external factors, which stimulate the desire and the energy to continue being interested and committed to a job, action or goal. It is the process that stimulates people to act, do things, and accomplish goals.   What can help you to get motivated? You need to know exactly what you want. Your goal should be clear. You need to be aware of it benefits of what you want to accomplish. Scripture: Phil 3:14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Prayer:  Lord. Grant us the strength to press towards our goal. Amen. It starts with passion. We find the thing inside of us that lights us up every single day, and we begin our journey to greatness riding on a wave on excitement and enthusiasm. But this passion can only take us so far. Eventually, the excitement starts to fade, and our motivation declines. Many of us quit, defeated, but the successful one’s forge on, fueled by a seemingly endless supply of mental strength and determination. They have a hunger – an unwavering force that drives them to defy the odds and continue when everything and everyone could not. They want it more than they want air. It gives them the power to conquer the fears, the failures, the setbacks and survive the months, years or sticking with Plan A.  My husband said to me yesterday, when Plan A fails – revert to plan A, and I say there is only Plan A there is no Plan B. Hunger is a hard thing to hang onto in the face of doubt, but there are some ways to find and feed that hunger and stay motivated when you’re struggling to see the light and to keep forging on. Here are six thing I have found help me to stay on track with Plan A Change your environment. Create a routine. Anticipate roadblocks. Always keep learning. In the words of Dr. Seuss “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Change your language. Nourish your body   Yes, massive success requires massive focus and massive clarity.  I call it clearing the deck to focus on what is most important. But as monumental as it seems, it is only the sum of the consistent efforts we put forth. It is a process, a journey. So let that journey (and all the little choices we make each day) be fueled by passion and hunger our Dare2Dream Mindset – because putting all these together, you are unstoppable. Welcome to the Dare to Dream Podcast with Rev. Lisa Ealy, Episode 2. Today, our episode “Focusing on your Goals” - to manifest your dream job. I want to take this time first to honor God as the head of my life and the director of all things Lisa including Dare2Dream.   Please allow me to read a scripture into your hearing and follow with a prayer.   Scripture: Phil 3:13-16 Beloved,[a] I do not consider that I have made it my own;[b] but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly[c]call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let those of us then who are mature be of the same mind; and if you think differently about anything, this too God will reveal to you. 16 Only let us hold fast to what we have attained. (NRSV) Let us pray – Gracious God, I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning me towards —to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back. So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track let’s stay on it. Amen. Let jump right into our topic today “Focusing on your Goals” - to manifest your dream job. When we begin to focus on our Goal, we do something called pressing in or leaning in. So what is Press - It is a steadily applied weight or force, to move in a certain direction, Strain with urgency, haste or great attention. How fitting for our theme “Focus on the Goal, Press towards the goal.” Scripture Says to Press towards the High Calling of Jesus.  And that is so applicable to our topic today. What I know to be true is that things that are high or sitting high are often hard or hardest to reach.  We either must stretch, get on our tippy toes, get a stepping stool, or ask for help or unfortunately never reach what it is that we were reaching for in the first place. And that won’t do when we have a goal to reach and no time for delay.  So, let’s keep on pressing, keep on reaching and keep on striving to reach and ultimately manifest our dream. Because the only time of truth is right now.  We know that the gift of life is only given right now. We must learn to let go of past if we wish to experience our lives in the present. We must learn to let go of the pull of the future as well. I heard a wise woman say, “that is future tripping.” which is something that may not ever come to pass, but none the less we are spending today’s energy focusing on it. Then we have the past, the past is a memory to cherish and to grow from, and the future is promised to no one. Realize Deeply, that the present moment is all you have.   “If your mind carries a heavy burden of past, you will experience more of the same. The past perpetuates itself through lack of presence. The quality of your consciousness at this moment is what shapes the future.” – Eckhart Tolle   “My Presence is my Super Power to create the future I See and Want.” The Future God is calling all of us towards.   Your goals, vision, and mission will drive your ability to achieve your dream career but not just that - it will also dive your ability to achieve your dream life and anything else you desire to manifest.  Let me say that again – Your goals, vision, and mission will drive your ability to achieve your dream career but not just that - it will also drive your ability to achieve your dream life land anything else you desire to manifest.  So, keep going -  keep pressing - keep leaning in towards the prize of your highest calling, don’t hold yourself back, don’t allow fear or sticking thinking, the old self or the lizard brain to stop you. Learn to love the butterflies in your stomach and let them lead you onward towards your dream job and dream life. Just simply lean into the highest calling and look and see what happens.  I recall when I was in my twenties… I attend a class at church during what we called them the Christian Institute. A week of intense Christian learning. The instructor talked about praying over our goals, but first shared the importance of writing them down, some call this making it plain. I call it capturing your dream planning.  It does two things, it provides a focus for your prayer - but when you achieve, and you will achieve it -  it is a reminder and will push you forward to achieve more than you ever thought possible.   Now I do not want you to think that prayer is a magic formula or like fairy dust, but there are times when God ‘s answer to our prayer is Yes! But there are other times when the answers are - not yet, or wait and even NO.  But we need to be careful about our prayers because God’s answer of no may men this is not for you.  But don’t ever stop praying. No matter the answer. This also reminds me of how we need to heed to what God may be saying to us and perhaps we are praying for the wrong thing, and it is a sign to keep seeking his will and keep praying.   But whatever the answer, do not give up hope in well doing. Your goal may be the journey itself.   Let us now turn our attention to our homework for this podcast.   There are a few things I need you to do these next few days as homework. What do you need to focus on? Identify if there is something holding you back? Write out 1-2 goals this week that can be accomplished in one week’s time.
