Today we're talking about how to handle difficult family members over the holidays. Oh, this is a good one. Do you remember those holiday Coca Cola ads with the Norman Rockwell paintings? Rockwell perfectly captured the essence of what Christmas could be. You didn't have the weird aunt that said: will u look at my mole to see if it had changed. There was no fighting at the kitchen table over who ate the last piece of fried chicken. Rockwell's paintings were the essence of perfection in American culture. We, on the other hand, were not. Our family was more like a National Lampoon Christmas Vacation, you tell a kid, hey: take the Christmas tree box to the garage and he hears: slide down the stairwell and break out 3 banisters. 4 Steps to Successfully Navigating Difficult Family Members During the Holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas) Living Your Best Life Book on Amazon or where all books are sold. Hey Friend! I'm so excited about my new book out now on Amazon, Keep It Simple, Sarah. I wrote it for you and your LP (little precious teen daughter or granddaughter.) This book contains the wisdom and knowledge you have tucked in your mind and heart and want to share with your daughter, but she doesn't want to hear from you. The bottom line is this: Teen girls don't want advice from their mothers. OUCH!!! It's so painful, and I'm so sorry, but they're more like to take "suggestions" from someone else or from something they've seen or read than listen to you. That's why providing them with the info you want them to have is so important. Keep It Simple, Sarah contains modern day advice along with your grandmother's "nuggets." It's filled with verses, etiquette tips, and lessons that will help them throughout their journey into womanhood. Click here to purchase ! Christmas will be here soon, and this book will make the PERFECT gift! Today, I'm visiting with my friend Stephanie Pletka from podcast Motherhood Mindset and author of Living Your Best Life. You thought you taught them everything, and then wait: I talk to kid #1 & #2 about car maintenance or money management, but did I mention it to the others? It's funny how obvious lessons slip through the cracks on the kid who has never seen a rotary dial phone or a type writer. Are you chained to your phone? Text, email, pinging sounds reminding you to call a friend, to check a voice mail left by telemarketers. It's a relentless barrage of cognitive overload, holding us captive. What if, instead of taking a picture of every place we've traveled, we truly experinced the moment with the people we love. We sat and listened and laughed and at the smores and shared the stories kept the phone in our purpse or pocket. We spent a month traveling the U.S. did an experiment to see how it could change our lives, build stronger relationships and better communication, if we focused on each other, rather than mindlessly grabbing our phones and missing what really matters most, each other. Research shows that 29% of travelers said if they could not take a picture and document their experience on social media, they would rather not go. I interviewed moms, groups of teens, and then chatted with my son on:What Teens Wish Their Parents Knew About Them: from social media, peer pressure, discipline, to buy-in and consequences, he throws out a ton of insight into creating stronger relationships with your teen.On today's episode, I interviewed my son Will, an 18 year senior, graduating HS and heading to college. He played HS Tennis, is a life guard, an avid basketball player, a great friend collector, child #2 of 4 and he's agreed to give us a few insights to help build stronger relationships with our teens. Topic: We're talking about moods, attitudes, advice, procrastination, sarcasm, how to create better relationships with our kids, connection, community, and more.We had so much to say in Part 1, we decided to record Part 2. I also interviewed over 30 moms, by zoom, in person, phones calls, and text and the #1 fear that kept them up at night.Listen mom, no matter the age of your kids, it's never too late to build relationships. When our kids are little, life is all about wiping butts and guiding little hearts. Frankly, it's pure labor. As they grow older, we begin teaching responsibilities for different ages and stages. And as they become teens and young adults, it's where the fruits of our labor pays off. It's where our leading from behind, turns into friendships. On this episode, we're all about creating strong relationships with our kids, making memories and building a legacy. Will, thanks for representing teenagers and giving moms the inside scoop, to better understand where teens are coming from.Stephanie's Bio:Stephanie Pletka is a motivational speaker, author of Living Your Best Life and radio show host of Motherhood Mindset on Faith Talk Radio 1360 in Phoenix. On this week's episode of Motherhood Mindset, I'm interviewing Amy Carney, author of Parent on Purpose and 100 Questions for Moms, to discuss Ways to Enjoy Traditions that Matter to Your Family, minus the hurriedness of trying to Be All & Do it All. You're just one person. Slow down and live out these precious days on purpose. If we are lucky, Amy reminds us that we have only 18 seasons with our kids. Would you rather focus on image, perfection, keeping up with the Jonses, or customizing your holiday season to focus on what matters most to your family?Give yourself grace to be human. There are some seasons where you can add more traditons and items to the list, and other seasons, for example, when you're having a baby, adopting a child, starting a job, or going back to school; those seasons need a little more attention and something has to give. Amy offers 3 actionable steps to determine what matters most to your family; and how to live a more intentional holiday season, to enjoy the goodness sitting right before you. God is your anchor in the midst of the storm. Don't be afraid, for the Lord will go before you and will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. The key to success is persistence not perfection.
This week I had the absolute pleasure to have Yummii Nguyen on the show. She is the founder of 'The Motherhood Mindset' and a Mindset Coach. She specialises in Relationships, Healing, and Love. Her purpose and passion lives in empowering and guiding others how to think clearly, bring compassion and understanding to their wounds, and show-up in their relationships from a place of LOVE over FEAR. The Motherhood Mindset is a space for Mothers who believe in healing their wounds and bringing self-awareness to their parenting journey. Motherhood isn't just about your child. Motherhood is your opportunity to heal and transform - and master the art of living from Love. We had a beautiful conversation about finding your wholeness, her experience of transformation and healing throughout motherhood and the huge significance for putting yourself first as parents. Would've paid to have known this sooner, but glad I know it now! This is THE episode that will shift your thinking in motherhood from stress and feelings of "never good enough" to simplicity and peace. I can say that because I've lived it! I'm giving you permission to do the same. In this episode, I share how it all changed for me and how I can view my motherhood through a new lens that helps me focus on what matters most. What lies have you been believing about yourself as a mother? It's time to expose them for what they are- lies! Join me in the call to action and and answer these questions: Where am I now in my motherhood? Where do I want to be? Get a clear vision for what is really important to you and start letting your actions follow that priority. Sometimes we make things far more difficult than they have to. And remember mama, YOU are the most important thing your children need from you that ONLY YOU can give. Choose to show up for them and love on them with the genuine, authentic love of the Father.
This week on the Awakened Pregnancy Podcast I speak with Nikki Jurcutz co-Founder and CEO of Tiny Hearts Education, former Advanced Life Support Paramedic and mama to Nahla, 3 and Wolf, 1.Tiny Hearts Education was born from a community need. While working as a paramedic, Nikki noticed that parents lacked essential skills and knowledge when it came to paediatric first aid, birth and parenting and knew that something had to change. At Tiny Hearts, our mission is to bring education to all Australian parents that will transform their parenting experience, giving them the knowledge to move through pregnancy, childbirth and parenthood with confidence. This conversation gave me a completely new perspective on how I can empower myself as a mother to a young child, and that it truly is my responsibility to seek out this support.Through Tiny Hearts, Nikki and her sister Rach, have impacted thousands of lives and are truly changing the way that we, as parents respond in an emergency. This episode is empowering, grounding and practical. I know you're going to love it!We talk about…What Nikki saw that brought about the inspiration to begin Tiny Hearts Education with her sister RachWhy ignorance isn't bliss and how to advocate for your childWhy it's important to educate yourself and empower yourself with first aid skills as a parentYou don't rise to the level of expectation in a crisis, rather fall to your level of trainingWhy she hopes that what she teaches you is a waste of your timeThe most important thing in a crisis and how she sets you up to call on thisLife changing stories from the Tiny Hearts communityHow birth is influenced by mindsetWhy you MUST prepare for birthThe impact of mindset on birthWhat you need to focus on when you write a birth planAnd so much more!Show notes for this episode Register for my upcoming Masterclass: How to stay calm and stress-free while consciously conceiving in 2020 To circulate an exchange with me, you can buy me a coffee here.

Join me for Part 1 of the No Longer A Hot Mess Of A Mumma Mastermind from our facebook group - The Wholesome Mumma Community. If you aren't part of it yet, we'd love you to join us!

Smashing some quotes today sista! I've been a subscriber to this popular quote for so long, and I really believed in it, too! Upon further examination, I don't think it's comparison that's the real trouble. Comparison is normal and natural and we do it all the time for objective things - people and bodies included. Dig into this quick episode to see what I think is the real thief of joy and how you can be aware of this joy-stealer and stop doing it every time!
