Welcome back to Don't Alert the Stans! For the final episode of Season 6, it's just Sope and Eden as Nic is feeling unwell. During the listens section, X-Factor alumni Shayne Ward and Leona Lewis have their careers randomly put under the microscope as a result of Eden's recommendations 26:41). Kicking off the news agenda is VERZUS who have announced their newest battles between Eve and Trina in addition to Bow Wow and Soulja Boy. Puzzled, Sope considers whether these particular match ups make sense (41:12). Next up is GoldLink who used the announcement of his upcoming album ‘HARAM' to once again fire lyrical shots at Sheck Wes, who at this point he's been feuding with for a few years (01:02:55). Closing out the show is Snoop Dogg who's been appointed as Def Jam's new executive and strategic consultant. Sope notes that this partnership will only reap good fruit if he's actually dedicated to working and building the artists on his roster. As opposed to it being a cosmetic role, leading to a conversation about Kanye West and Beyonce's respective fashion lines. Looking at whether they are truly passionate about these projects or are they just boutique celebrity side hustles for the purpose of brand expansion (01:12:54). Not one to miss! Comedian Kirsten Brown brings us three videos from artists who decided not to be musicians any more (or maybe had it decided for them) and to become series regulars on the UK soap opera Coronation Street. We start with the first X-Factor winner Shayne Ward's debut single That's My Goal a video that's blandness is only exceeded by its singer's. Following on that is Hear'Say's Pure and Simple possibly the greatest video shot in in a flame-based abattoir with people who clearly hate each other. Finally we finish the show with a discussion of Boyzone's Love Me for a Reason, an fully unnecessary Carpenter's cover from Irelands least photogenic boy band. Episode 6 travels back to the Christmas number ones of the 2000s, a decade dominated by talent shows and reality TV. After Girls Aloud took on One True Voice in 2002, Simon Cowell saw gold and took over the festive chart for the second half of the decade with his next show The X Factor. However, this led to one of the biggest chart shocks of all time, when a certain Facebook campaign took the most unlikely artist to the summit by the end of the decade. Elsewhere, there was yet another Band Aid, an ’80s piano cover and a kids TV show legend. https://traffic.libsyn.com/secure/eamezey/Christmas_Number_One_Rewind_-_2000s.mp3 (Download the episode), stream in the player above, or subscribe for the latest episodes. On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the Christmassy Corrie dramas between the 25th and the 29th December. They say Christmas is a time for miracles, and we certainly saw a bit of that this week, as Billy somehow survives falling off a cliff. Elsewhere, renowned lush Carla gets tongues wagging when people notice she's not been drinking, and Brian does his best to fill the Corrie Christmas cliche quota by punching a drunk in the face and spending the night behind bars. After Street Talk, there's good news for Shayne Ward in The Kabin, and we hear some listeners' thoughts about this week's racism story in the feedback section.
To begin Episode 274, we pay tribute to Liz Dawn, who sadly passed away on Monday night. After looking back over Liz's long and colourful life, we share some of our favourite Jack and Vera moments before playing a selection of sound clips from her most memobable scenes. This is followed by Street Talk, in which we discuss the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 25th and 29th September. In the run up to Nathan's trial next week, a face from the past appears on Wednesday, which threatens to make or break the case. Also this week, there's a welcome return to the Rovers for Liz, Will finally gets his comeuppance, and the truth about Gary's assignment in the Ukraine comes out. In The Kabin segment, we discuss Shayne Ward's involvement in the latest Loose Women campaign, and finish things off wth a Tina-riffic feedback section.

As part of Stock, Aiken and Waterman, Mike Stock is the most successful writer producer in British chart history. His music was the soundtrack to the late 80s and early 90s he wrote some of the most enduring floor-fillers, revived the flagging careers of legends like Donna Summer and Cliff Richard, created stars from the boys and girls next door and turned an actress into one of the worlds biggest pop stars. Mike talks about the intensity of the period where at one point they had five studios working 24 hours a day churning out hits for artists. Hence is responsible for 54 top ten hits in the UK, 18 number one hits worldwide and over 100 top 40 hits. He continues the Stock, Aiken and Waterman ethos of giving music fans what they want and recently produced a crowd-funded album for Shayne Ward.
