Happy holidays from all of us here at SYG! The winter solstice is upon and it's one of the darkest times of the year. So as you're enjoying the lights on your Christmas tree and lighting your Christmas candles, just remember that though the holidays are a time for joy and cheer, it has a much darker history than that. This, our annual Christmas special, will be our final episode for the holidays but we'll be back in a few weeks with more discussions with some of the luminaries of darkness. Everyone has their favorite Christmas movie classics but perhaps the gold standard is Frank Capra's “It's a Wonderful Life”. Featuring Jimmy Stewart learning that every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings, it was only a matter of time before some master of the macabre took a stab at the setup for a horror film. And boy are we lucky that that particular filmmaker happened to by our guest today, Tyler MacIntyre with his new film “It's a Wonderful Knife”. If you don't love the title already you deserve to be boiled in your own Christmas pudding. With a genre cast to die for, a razor-sharp script by Michael Kennedy (who wrote the genre hit “Freaky”) and a Christmas killer sure to join the ranks of the great Christmas slashers, “It's a Wonderful Knife” has all the ingredients to become a Christmas horror fans tradition. Tyler and I sat down to discuss the importance of inclusivity in modern horror, some tips of the trade for pursuing a career in filmmaking that are sure to be of great help for our aspiring filmmaker listeners, what he took from Hallmark when creating his own Christmas tale and how the film nods to “It's a Wonderful Life” in some very sly ways. We also discuss the creation of Justin Long's insane and wonderfully bizarre villain. “It's a Wonderful Knife” is available on Shudder, AMC+ and anywhere you rent your movies. Okay, let's sharpen our candy canes and get our wings with Tyler MacIntyre! ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

It's A Wonderful Knife is an entertaining slasher flick - with a difference. As the title indicates, the film is a riff on Frank Capra's 1946 Christmas classic, It's A Wonderful Life. Starring Jane Widdop, Joel McHale and Justin Long, the film has heart and laughs wrapped up against the film's bloody kills.  A year after saving her small town from a crazed killer, Jane Widdop's Winnie is down in the dumps by the way things have turned out. When she wishes she'd never been born, she finds herself in an alternate reality - and that's when she sees how bad life would be without her - and things are made even worse when the killer is still on the loose. Tyler MacIntyre, It's A Wonderful Knife's director and Michael Kennedy, the film's writer joined the Movies In Focusp podcast to talk about the trials and tribulations of making this quirky Christmas slasher.

Five Nights at Freddy's movie review and franchise history! This week on the Soul Forge we talk about everything to do with Five Nights at Freddy's (FNaF). We just saw the movie on opening night. Our initial thoughts and reactions, fresh from the theatre are here for you to enjoy. Also on this episode, we have a brief recap of the last week in our lives. Shawn and Leah have been cooking. When they went to Disney World, they tried the cheeseburger spring rolls. They were delicious but expensive. After finding the recipe, they made their own version. This version was exquisite, and may be better than the official product. Additionally, they have been watching more Keeping Up Appearances and Blake's 7. You can hear their thoughts on this episode. And finally, Shawn continues his quest to modify and repaint Hot Wheels. Five Nights at Freddy's (FNaF) is a video game series and media franchise created by Scott Cawthon. The first video game was released on August 8, 2014, and the resultant series has since gained worldwide popularity. The main series consists of nine video games taking place in locations connected to a fictional family pizza restaurant franchise named "Freddy Fazbear's Pizza", after its mascot, the animatronic bear Freddy Fazbear. In most games, the player assumes the role of a night-time employee, who must utilize tools such as security cameras, lights, doors, and vents to defend themselves against animatronic characters who inhabit the locations and become mobile and hostile at night. The series' lore is gradually revealed through voice recordings, minigames, and Easter eggs featured throughout the games. The FNaF movie is directed by Emma Tammi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback, from a story by Cawthon, Chris Lee Hill, and Tyler MacIntyre. Thanks to the reception from their first film titled “Patchwork,” writers Tyler MacIntyre and Chris Lee Hill were commissioned to rework a script that had similar overtones as a horror-comedy with female leads. They eventually got inspired to transform the script into a slasher movie but MacIntyre and Hill wanted to tackle the project from a different angle than the typical point-of-view from the victims and instead put the killers in the driver's seat. Eventually they wrote a scene that took place on a bridge between a pair of teenagers making out in a car and a serial killer hanging around nearly and that inspired the idea that spiraled into the entire script. Set in a social media age where likes and retweets matter far more than feelings, a pair of teenage girls decide to get bloody and up the body count in their hometown in order to turn themselves into a worldwide trending topic — hashtag murder scene! In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to check our retweets and make sure the killing doesn't look like an accident as we review the 2017 horror-comedy “Tragedy Girls”…

Episode 11 sees Andy and Mitch joined by Tyler MacIntyre, director of Patchwork and Frightfest 2017 closing film, Tragedy Girls. His chosen film? Memoirs of an Invisible Man! Based on H.F. Saint's novel of the same name and coming four years after They Live, Memoirs of an Invisible Man is considered something of an anomaly in John Carpenter's filmography. A critical and commercial failure on its release, is this reputation deserved? The synopsis is as follows, Nick Holloway has always had charm. Sophisticated and successful, he's always been able to stay a step ahead of the rest, whether by placating his boring boss or by fascinating beautiful women. But a bizarre accident turns his life upside down and threatens his lifestyle and relationships; Nick becomes invisible! So who can catch a man that can't be seen? Well, the CIA are going to try, as the chance to have an invisible agent is too tempting to ignore. Corrupt CIA man David Jenkins sets off in hot pursuit. But being invisible does have its advantages as Nick is able to pursue gorgeous documentary producer Alice Monroe in ways she's never seen before! The two of them must try to avoid the treacherous Agent Jenkins while pursuing Nick's manic quest to somehow find a way to reverse his invisibility.   Please note that this podcast may contain strong language and even stronger Scottish accents.  Remember, you can keep up to date with our news by following us via the usual social media outlets:  Facebook Twitter Instagram Plus you can drop us an email to stronglanguageviolentscenes@gmail.com. Movie Meltdown - Episode 406 This week we welcome special guest - director Tyler MacIntyre to talk to us about his latest feature Tragedy Girls. Plus we discuss his first film Patchwork, the finer points of being an editor in addition to being a director... and just what draws fans to the horror genre. And along the way, we also discuss this week's Sofa Theater feature: Memoirs of an Invisible Man the sometimes forgotten film directed by John Carpenter. And while we reminisce about some of our favorite old mom and pop video stores, we also discuss... tax incentives, CG effects, getting toxic waste spilled on you and getting telekinetic powers, The Howling, Sam Raimi, They Live, in the back of a hot tub place, half a building, the audience is going in with a certain set of expectations, it's a very level playing field, serious and emotional and primal, Stripes, Martin Pensa, Dead Alive, Fletch, sophisticated horror films, a high-concept horror shell, Sam Neill, VHS hits that I watched as a kid, and then when they do something... I think successfully... they still don't let it be a success, people really undervalue writing, Scream, shoddy science, being a noir, From Beyond, that's a very destructive way to think about art... as well as genre, 20% original, they got crazy shots that you weren't seeing in any movie at that time, Robert Rodríguez, the term yuppie, a taboo element, Basket Case, shooting on a VHS camera, gateway horror, Demolition Man, Willow, George Romero, why aren't we shooting in Canada right now, prairie town, all the technical stuff, Tobe Hooper, film studies, Evil Dead 2 and wanting something you're not supposed to have. "...it's an example of people trying to pigeon hole, like audiences, critics, the studio... trying to pigeon hole these people into doing a certain thing."
