PUBLIC VERSION. Filmmaker and actress Katt Shea (POISON IVY, THE RAGE: CARRIE 2, STRIPPED TO KILL, PSYCHO III, NANCY DREW AND THE HIDDEN STAIRCASE) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen to discuss her career journey. From putting on shows in her backyard at age twelve and realizing she could enlist other neighborhood kids and charge their parents to come watch… to becoming a working actress on films like BARBARIAN QUEEN, HOLLYWOOD HOT TUBS, THE DEVASTATOR… to learning all that she could about the filmmaking process while acting for the great Brian DePalma on SCARFACE and the legendary Anthony Perkins on PSYCHO III… to the crazy hurdles she jumped through in order to convince Roger Corman to green-light her directorial debut STRIPPED TO KILL… to how the production wound up having a bigger budget than other Concorde Pictures' films and how the overall Corman experience prepared her to solve any hurdle a shoot throws at her… to the absolutely incredible story of the dog (“Bear”) that was rescued in real life in order to play “Ruby” the rescue dog star of her 2022 film RESCUED BY RUBY… to the challenges of working on a film with a Director of Photography that only wanted to do things their own way… to accepting the job to direct THE RAGE: CARRIE 2 on merely four days notice while knowing all along that she'd have a target on her back for daring to direct a sequel to CARRIE… to what “Carrie” herself (Academy Award winner Sissy Spacek) said about the sequel once she saw it… to how time can change movies that were originally panned (like SCARFACE) and see them go on to become beloved films and part of pop culture… to the way life wound up imitating art with her 1992 film POISON IVY… to what it was like being one of the only women at the early Masters of Horror get togethers… to why she loves teaching acting so much and how age and experience can really strengthen an artist's spine… Katt's fearless 40+ year career is certainly one to be celebrated.

The Blind Rage podcast: Horror Movie Commentaries

A September of School Scares is rapidly coming to an end here on The Blind Rage Podcast. For the penultimate episode, we're taking a look at Katt Shea's severely, disgracefully, criminally underrated THE RAGE: CARRIE 2. In this sequel to Brian DePalma's immortal classic, we're introduced to Rachel Lange (Emily Bergl), a high school outcast whose world is shattered when her best and only friend (Mena Suvari) commits suicide after being dumped by a popular boy (“Home Improvement” star Zachary Ty Bryan). We learn that members of the football team are having casual encounters with female students, then quickly tossing them aside. To make matters more unseemly, they keep a notebook, where the girls are judged on their looks, as well as sexual performance. What they don't know is that Rachel, much like her half-sister, holds telekinetic powers, and the prank they have planned is about to go very, very wrong.

Our latest interview is with someone we have hoped to talk with for some time, director, writer, and actor Katt Shea! We go through her early career where Shea appeared as an actor in a few Corman-produced films before stalking Roger to get an opportunity to direct her debut feature, 1987's STRIPPED TO KILL! Shea describes  the key to landing an audition,  how acting in PSYCHO III ending up helping her sell STRIPPED TO KILL to Roger,  her difficulties after directing the 1991 hit POISON IVY,  and what it was like to work for Roger, both good and bad. We can think of no better way to kick off #SEXtember Part Deux than with Katt Shea's 1987 thriller, STRIPPED TO KILL.  This isn't one of those movies the skimps (wink) on the stripping.  There's a lot of it in STRIPPED TO KILL.  So much, in fact, that it broke our titty count machine.   We talk about strange rules for strip clubs, the challenge of keeping the patrons excited during the 15-20 minutes it takes the DJ to tear down and build a new set for the next stripper and, of course, which time of year muscles are poisonous.  Which muscles?  You have to listen to find out.   And while STRIPPED TO KILL has a whole lot of stripping, that is not the sum of it's parts.  There are meat sculptures, police department employees that work at] brothels, telekinetic fire starting, and a little double identity (we're not talking about the boobies).   Finally, Ryan and Erica teach Marc how to properly tell a joke and we discover a unique new business opportunity that you need to hear about.  We are all going to get rich.

The Rage: Carrie 2 was not a box office success, but it wasn't the disaster a lot of people remember either. Finishing at #91 for the year, just ahead of Go and (somehow) just behind the Melissa Joan Hart/Adrian Grenier vehicle Drive Me Crazy, The Rage: Carrie 2 opened in late March at an impressive #2 behind the 1999 comedy hit Analyze This. But it didn't quite make back its budget, and it as since largely been forgotten about. Which is a shame, because it has a lot to offer. While the film was initially called The Curse and had nothing to do with 1976's Carrie, the similarities led the studio to call for a retooling that set the production back a couple years. And actor Amy Irving, who played Sue Snell in the original, was called in to reprise the role. A last-minute change of director (Poison Ivy director Katt Shea) further impacted the production. But both the fact that The Rage: Carrie 2 finally hit cinemas just a few weeks before Columbine, and its use of a real-life true crime story (the notorious Spur Posse) has led to a lot of revision of its legacy in the quarter century since. As such, we invited horror fan and true crime guy Paul Haynes (collaborator on Michell McNamara's 2018 book I'll Be Gone In The Dark) to talk it out with us.

Welcome to the final week of Mother's May(hem) on Slashers Podcast! A month long event where we discuss horror films that highlight the joys and terrors of motherhood. Today Ade, Austin and Lance discuss 1999's The Rage: Carrie 2! Also, today's episode is so special because for the first time ever in Slashers Podcast history, all 3 hosts LIVE IN FLORIDA. Your degenerates await you! This film was initially intended to be a standalone, but was reworked to be a sequel to everyone's favorite telekinetic, teen angsty, Stephen King character 1974's Carrie. Written by Rafael Moreu and directed by Katt Shea, it stars Emily Bergl as Rachel Lang, a young goth chick who witnesses her best friend in a horrific accident (trigger warning) and must navigate the hell that is high school, all while her own mother is locked away in an institution for schizophrenia. Anyway, much like its predecessor, our protagonist does discover she has some special abilities, but unlike Carrie, Rachel seems to keep them on the back burner until our final act. The film also stars other 90s favorites such as Jason London (Dazed and Confused), Rachel Blanchard (Clueless), Dylan Bruno (Saving Private Ryan), Zachery Ty Bryan (Home Improvement), Mena Suvari (American Pie), Eddie Kaye Thomas (American Pie), J. Smith Cameron, and Amy Irving reprising her role as Sue Snell from Brian de Palma's Carrie. While this movie was initially a flop, it has since developed a cult following. And while it may not hold a candle to his first installment, it's still pretty damn good. What do you think? Let us know your thoughts!! There is so much glitter scattered all over the cave this time after we watched two movies that center around the workers at strip clubs. In both movies, there are mysterious deaths occuring, the police are called in, and clothes are discarded...these are pure 80's nonsense and great examples of the sort of low-budget filmmaking that was happening back then. Both films are written and directed by the completely bad-ass Katt Shea and produced by none other than Mr Roger Corman himself! We start with "Stripped to Kill" from 1987 which has the always-reliable and gorgeous Kay Lenz in the lead, playing opposite BJ and the Bear leading man Greg Evigan. Lenz is a police officer who goes undercover as a stripper to try to find out who is killing the other dancers. It does a lot with it's miniscule budget and is totally worth checking out. We also watched the sequel, appropriately titled "Stripped to Kill 2: Live Girls" with Maria Ford taking over the lead role. Ford's character is a stripper who keeps having weird nightmares and waking up to find that one of her fellow dancers has turned up dead. This one is less successful than the first but there are moments throughout that make it worth watching. We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. The fourth film in our Risqué Romance cycle is Lana and Lily Wachowski's debut film, Bound (1996).Like the Wachowskis' more successful and canonical sophomore effort, The Matrix, Bound both works wonderfully on its own as a playful lesbian-centered noir and as a challenge to the WWII-era subgenre, as well as modern crime films writ large, to reconsider and deconstruct masculinity and femininity alike. Essentially a chamber drama with Hong Kong action-inspired flair, its lead performances from the still-underrated Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon leap off the screen with ferocity while also retaining a delicate sense of intimacy. The supporting cast, including reliable Wachowski mainstay Joe Pantoliano and a magnetically maniacal turn from Christopher Meloni, fleshes out the film's ahead-of-its-time graphic novel pulp sensibility too. The whole affair comes off as not just risqué but downright revolutionary. For our chaser film, we discuss the trashy erotic thriller Poison Ivy (1992). Directed by exploitation master Roger Corman protégé Katt Shea and largely a footnote of the decade's offerings, its queer undertones and Lolita riffing merit discussion, not to mention the fact that it somehow spawned three direct-to-video sequels.Dan is off this episode, but joining Chris in his absence is the insightful and talented freelance film writer and frequent Little White Lies contributor Lillian Crawford.

Ruby is an extremely hyperactive half border collie that has been adopted multiple times from the shelter she's been in over the last six months, but always later returned due to an inability to train or control her.Rhode Island state trooper Daniel O'Neil has dreamed of joining the K-9 search and rescue team of the state police. However, he has been rejected seven times and he only has one last chance to qualify before he turns 30.Daniel learns that the K-9 unit has no funds to import any more German Shepherds, the breed usually used in search and rescue teams, and therefore he would not be able to join the program. He finds out his wife Mel(issa) is pregnant with their second child, making him even more determined to go for it. The promotion would also improve his pay and benefits.Pat, an advocate at the shelter, begs her workmate Rick to give Ruby a little more time. He announces that in the evening they will put her down. Dan discovers a K-9 dog doesn't have to be a German Shepherd, but curious, agile and spirited. Then he visits the shelter, and Pat convinces him to adopt Ruby to train her and join the program. The story then follows Dan's attempts to train Ruby, their failures and their successes. They both are high-energy, enthusiastic and have to discover how to work together effectively.Captain Zarella explains that after an entry exam, those accepted do six weeks intensive training. To enter, dog and owner must have the right temperament, focus, calmness and compassion. Ruby does well until finally, impatient, she wiggles free, riling up a bee's nest. Out of the official training, Mel reminds Dan he got through the police academy with dyslexia and hyperactivity, so maybe he should try homeschooling Ruby.At the exam at six weeks, Ruby passes. They wait for months on their junior team, until finally they are needed. Sent to a home where a murder victim is meant to be, Ruby senses human remains, but Dan can't find them. Disappointed, he ignores her, dejected. She runs off during the night, only to have Zarella tell him the remains were found at the scene where Ruby indicated, but buried beneath concrete, Zarella tells Dan it was amazing that Ruby caught the scent, and he should have trusted his K9 partner. Dan frantically searches for Ruby, finally finding her.Dan and Ruby join the search teams seeking Michael, a boy who got lost while hiking. They find him in the rain and dark, and the boy turns out to be Pat's son.★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

For a long time now, Matt and I have been wanting to do one massive retrospective that would seem to keep building and building to an unknown number. For awhile, it was looking like Marvel was going to be that series. But after Jack and company did their three hour show on it a couple years ago, that idea went out the door. So what could we do that would could take the place of what we originally had in mind? Enter the works of Stephen King. Often called a master of horror, sometimes called a trashy populist, there is no question that King has transcended horror, and made his own brand of fiction not only popular, but the most massively successful empire of published work of all time. But in order to review the entire run of King's film adaptations, we must first look at the very first published novel of King's career, and the films it inspired. The Rage: Carrie 2 is more than a movie. To Matt and myself, it is the film which cemented us as forever podcast partners. How did this happen? And what does the director of the movie Katt Shea have to do with it all? That is just one of many sets of questions this version of the Aftertaste is going to answer. In addition, why the hell does a sequel to Brian DePalma's seminal 1976 film exist? And why was it released 26 years later? Listen below to find out, and come back next week when we continue the first leg of Stephen King reviews when we look at the 2002 TV movie Carrie The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10) CLICK ABOVE TO LISTEN NOW! “Se van a burlar de ti...” Todos conocemos la trágica historia de Carrie White y, para sorpresa de algunos, en 1999 se intentó modernizarla con una secuela directa a la aclamada cinta de Brian DePalma. ¿El resultado? una menospreciada segunda parte que ni su excelente reparto, dirección y su acertado comentario social contra la “rape culture”, la pudieron salvar de la reprobación y fracaso económico. The supporting cast of Pia Kamakahi, Tracey Crowder, Debbie Nassar, Lucia Lexington, Athena Worthy and Carlye Byron are all fantastic and Greg Evigan as the partner/love interest is charming. In 2012 Adrian decided to put his knowledge to good use and embarked on his first book, First Scream to the Last, which covered the horror movie scene of the ’80s. After publication in 2014 two more books have since followed, Second Scream and The Final Scream, which cover the genre throughout the ’90s and ’70s respectively. These three knowledgeable reference pieces also attracted the interest of various genre artists, who kindly contributed towards the work with insightful interviews, allowing the reader to uncover fascinating memories of those involved in the making of these movies. Additional writers include Wes Craven, Julie Carmen, Tom Savini, Reggie Bannister, Mick Garris, Tom Holland, John Carpenter, Heather Langenkamp, Katt Shea, Tom Skerritt, Victor Miller, Eileen Davidson, Dee Wallace, Adrienne Barbeau and many others. Adrian has since published his 4th book, Bled Dry, which documents the history of the vampire subgenre. Various artists are once again involved with the work that looks at the origins of the vampire lore, while also covering over 100 years of vampires in film. Adrian has also contributed to various other horror projects including the ‘80s horror documentary In Search of Darkness, articles in the Daily Telegraph and various horror sites and blogs. And yes, they do address the fact that the remains of the OG Bates High School are still there for some reason. On a more serious note, they also discuss their experiences with bullying, narrowing them down to what they refer to as their "Carrie Moment."Questions? Comments? Snark? Every podcast thinks terrible thoughts and this week those terrible thoughts are about The Rage: Carrie 2. Analog Jones is joined by The Jersey Ghouls to review this over the top 90's horror film. The Rage: Carrie 2 was released into theaters on March 12, 1999. The budget was $21 million, and the movie made $17.8 million in the box office. Directed by Katt SheaProduced by Paul MonashWritten by Rafael MoreuBased on Carrie by Stephen King The Rage: Carrie 2 CastEmily Bergl as Rachel LangJason London as Jesse RyanDylan Bruno as Mark BingJ. Rachel has to live with foster parents. Years later, Rachel talks with her best friend Lisa, who has lost her virginity to Eric, a football player. The football players have a game where they sleep with girls and receive points. After Eric rejects her, Lisa commits suicide. Her death ignites Rachel's dormant telekinetic powers. Rachel discovers a photo of Lisa and Eric. She tells school guidance counselor Sue Snell and Sheriff Kelton that Lisa and Eric slept together. Kelton looks into charging Eric with statutory rape. Walter, Rachel's Basset Hound dog, is hit by a car, but Jesse drives by and takes the dog to an animal hospital. They have coffee while Walter is recovering. Eric, Mark and several other football players learn that Rachel had a photo of Eric and Lisa together and gave it to Sheriff Kelton. They pay Rachel a visit at her house to intimidate her into not talking, but her powers stop them. Sue Snell meets with Rachel and learns Rachel is telekinetic. Snell shows Rachel the original high school from Carrie (1976) that she survived, but 70 people died in the fire that Carrie White started. The Senior D.A. covers up the statutory rape because of the political influence of the wealthy families. Encouraged, Mark plots to humiliate Rachel for what she did to Eric. He apologizes to Jesse and offers his parents' cabin so Jesse can spend the night with Rachel. Rachel loses her virginity, both unaware that a hidden video camera is filming them. Rachel goes to a party, and the popular kids reveal their sex game that she is a part of, which triggers Rachel's telekinesis and unleashes the rage in her. Rachel closes the doors, kills most of the party goers, including Sue Snell in a horrific display of power. Rachel gets crushed by a piece of the house, Jesse says he loves her and she saves him. A year later, Jesse is at college, sharing his room with Rachel's dog, Walter. Jesse dreams Rachel approaches him in his dorm. When he walks towards her, she shatters into pieces in a very odd ending. Behind the Scenes of The Rage: Carrie 2Original the script was titled The Curse and was stalled for two years. When the film started to shoot in 1998 it was retitled to Carrie 2: Say You're Sorry. A few weeks into production the first director Robert Mandel quit over creative differences, and Katt Shea took over. Buy the double feature with the 2002 TV version of Carrie and The Rage: Carrie 2 by Scream Factory. Come back next week when we review Heart and Souls (1993).
