Vampire in Brooklyn is a 1995 American vampire black comedy film directed by Wes Craven. It stars Eddie Murphy, who produced and wrote with his brothers Vernon Lynch and Charles Q. Murphy. The film co-stars Angela Bassett, Allen Payne, Kadeem Hardison, John Witherspoon, Zakes Mokae, and Joanna Cassidy. Murphy also plays an alcoholic preacher, Pauly, and a foul-mouthed Italian-American mobster, Guido, respectively. Vampire in Brooklyn was the final film produced under Eddie Murphy's exclusive contract with Paramount Pictures, which began with 48 Hrs. (1982) and included the Beverly Hills Cop franchise (1984–1994). Vampire in Brooklyn was released theatrically in the United States on October 27, 1995. It received mostly negative reviews from critics and failed to meet the studio's expectations, as it was unsuccessful at the box office. Despite this, Vampire In Brooklyn has become regarded as a cult classic and has been subject to critical re-evaluation, especially towards Craven's direction, Murphy and Bassett's performances and chemistry and the humor. Happy week 2 of TroMarch here on Slashers Podcast! Join Jason & Ade is they dive into 1990s Troma/ Lloyd Kaufman favorite, Def By Temptation. The film follows an evil succubus that is preying on libidinous black men in New York City, and all that stands in her way is a minister-in-training, an aspiring actor, and a cop who specializes in cases involving the supernatural. The film stars many favorites like Samuel L Jackson, Kadeem Hardison from A Different World, Bill Nunn & author Cynthia Bond as our evil seductress. The film is written & directed by James Bond III, who also plays the pious hero, Joel. It's 1995. We've got Eddie Murphy right before the Nutty Professor. We've got Wes Craven right before the Scream films. We've got them coming together to make a modern vampire horror-comedy. That all doesn't matter though because John Witherspoon and Kadeem Hardison are the real stars of the show.
The guy from Double Dragon teams up with the guy from a spinoff of The Cosby Show (ew) and that lady who died of mold in that documentary in one of the most under-rated bonkers banana business masterpieces of karate comedy ever put to film. What a undiscovered treasure this masterpiece is. Just one year after this was released to video a movie was put in theaters and received much acclaim, success and two sequels called Rush Hour which is a clinic in film ripoffery if I've ever seen one after 20 years later watching Drive for the first time. There is no possible way that Brent Ratner didn't watch Drive and then say "yeah I'm gonna do a lot more of that in my film". There's no way. It's a travesty that this film wasn't a bigger deal because it is SOOO vastly superior to Rush Hour. Maybe just not as marketable to a mass audience. Every aspect of this is phenomenal. Dacascos is electric and displays skills that arguably rival any other movie martial artist, yes even Jackie Chan. Its not just his exceptional athletic, he's oozing charm. Kadeem Hardison is a perfect straight man in a very difficult comedic role. Brittany Murphy is stand on the table and applause good. Tracy Walter and John Piper Ferguson are brilliant as a couple frustrated redneck assassins. Its a wild, wild ride and everything you want in a fun karate movie.
Kadeem Hardison recently joined host Elias in the cave! You can see Kadeem as Arlo on AMC+ 'Moonhaven'. Moonhaven - A skeptic in Paradise, Earth pilot Bella Sway is sucked into a conspiracy to gain control of Moonhaven, a utopian colony on the Moon 100 years in the future. She must team up with local detective to stop forces that want to destroy Earth's last hope before they are destroyed themselves. Kadeem is best known for his role as Dwayne Wayne on A Different World, a spin-off of the long-running NBC sitcom The Cosby Show. He also starred in the Disney Channel series K.C. Undercover as Craig Cooper, the title character's father and played Norman in OWN's Love Is_. He also appeared in the first season of the Showtime comedy Black Monday and started as Bowser in the Netflix series Teenage Bounty Hunters. Returning to the podcast is our guest.. Darien Sills Evans (Abc's The Connors, CBS's East New York). We asked him to comeback to the podcast to give his unbiased opinion on some Eddie Murphy movies that he had never seen before. We talk about the awkward marketing of the movie "Holy Man"; Why I never did an official episode of "Holy Man"; Eddie's movies in the 90s; The insane plot of "Another 48hrs"; possibly getting Doug E Doug, Jeffrey Joseph (Google Him) or Kadeem Hardison on the podcast & Terrible but fun movies of the early 1990s. We drop names of different movies toward the end. You might wanna google them as well ("Def By Temptation", "Heart Condition". "Hanging with The Homeboys"....etc)Also Darien Sills Evans directed a movie that I highly recommend called "One Bedroom" (Amazon) Support the show
