We discuss how the idea came about to publish a public log of process work for branding a sports organization like Baseball NZ, as well as chat about the challenges of working across 3 timezones, including one that is 18 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. We also chat about how the designers are compensating for the cultural knowledge and differences in having never been to New Zealand or being intimately familiar with NZ heritage. In addition, we discuss how the designers plan to veer from New Zealand's biggest sports brand, the All Blacks, in order to build a brand of its own for baseball. Our second Canadian guest comes aboard the podcast this week as Chris Creamer, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of SportsLogos.net joined the the show to tell the story of one of the most influential sports logo and uniform sites on the Internet. Chris and I nerd out about being some of the older tech guys on the web in our 30s and mixing that with our love of both tech and sports. Chris tells a few stories about the growth of the website, its early rebellious nature, the infamous forums and the sites move from archiving sports logos to daily content and news. "By faling to prepare you are preparing to fail." – Benjamin Franklin Preparation is often overlooked in regards to success. But those that are the most successful, have definitely taken the time to prepare and develop processes over time to allow them to react instead of overthinking obstacles in their career. An example is Chris Fowler, former College Gameday host of 25 years. Chris works hard to prepare developing notes, storylines and more, all while leading his comrades as QB of Gameday. "If there's ever an idea and you realize there is an opportunity there, opportunity has a shelf life. You gotta do it. You gotta do it quick." This week on the podcast, Chris David Garcia of the Houston Astros joins us. Chris has been creative director of the Houston Astros where he has been working for 8+ years. He is also the founder of the upcoming sports design conference, Major Level Creative Connect (MLC Connect). Chris discusses his path to the Houston Astros and how important it is for in-house creatives to make clear business cases to their superiors when it comes to defining a career ladder and advancement within sports organizations. We also touch on the founding of Major Level Creative Connect and discuss why Chris pursued the endeavor to scratch his own itch of talking with other creative professionals working in-house that may be too busy to network outside of their organization. Lastly, Chris tells us where we can register for the conference, gives some insight on who will be speaking this year and discusses the casual, open-source atmosphere of MLC Connect.
