As a mother, wife and business owner, Jade Lord is deeply invested in bringing health and wellbeing to rural and remote communities. Originally from Moreton Bay, Jade spent most of her early childhood on Stradbroke Island. A blissful beachside oasis, surrounded by crystal clear water, white sand and rocky outcrops. It's a stark contrast from where Jade now calls home, a remote cattle station, 150km outside of Richmond, in Queensland. There, with her husband Nikko and three kids, Jock, Sandy and Ruby, they run a significant beef cattle operation, spanning across northern Queensland. Jade and Nikko had somewhat of a fairy tale romance, meeting on one of the early seasons of Farmer Wants a Wife, but as you'll hear in this episode, Jade's life on the land wasn't without some major challenges.

This piece of conversation was a highlight from my full episode with Josh Kerr. His desire to feel validated & accepted amongst his high school peers led to him feeling like an outcast from his indigenous culture. We spoke about fitting in vs belonging, why true belonging is found in self acceptance & the indigenous mentors who helped him create a stronger connection with his culture. If you loved this highlight, you can listen to the full episode on your platform of choice. See the show notes below. Josh Kerr is one of the St George Illawarra Dragons forwards & an indigenous All-Stars representative. When meeting Joshy, you are confronted by the mighty man-mountain's sheer size but after getting to know the man, it is no surprise that his larger than life personality & his compassionate heart are what he is known for amongst his family & friends. Josh grew up an hour North-West of Brisbane in Narrangba. Sport was a huge part of his early identity & it is where his passions for rugby league & aussie rules were formed. With opportunities to pursue both sports, Josh eventually decided to walk the rugby league path, not without his fair share of hurdles along the way. Alongside the desire to make his family proud, his driving force was the determination to prove an early doubter wrong & prove he could be part of the 1-2% of players who make their NRL dream a reality. A proud Aboriginal man from the Quandamooka Nation in Stradbroke Island, Joshy had his early struggles with culture. The criticism & racist jokes in the school yard created a drift with his culture, choosing to 'fit in' before realising that true belonging is found in celebration of our culture & self acceptance. Now loud & proud about his passion & pride to be an Aboriginal man, one of his great honours was to represent the Indigenous All-Stars. Josh has an incredible heart & a desire to leave those he encounters feeling uplifted, it's the reason I connected so easily with him when we first met. His story is inspiring & it was my honour to share it on the show. While most 13-year-olds might spend their birthday with a party shared among family or friends, Andrew Mirosch was battling a gale in a small fishing boat. Always keen on fishing, as a young boy Andrew would try his luck on the beach or off the rocks at Stradbroke Island with his grandparents, or by himself at night. He always wanted to be a fisherman But Andrew trained and has been a chef for more than 35 years. In 1995, he hung up the apron for a fishing rod to follow his first dream of becoming a professional fisherman. The kitchen lured him back however and still fishing during the day developed a successful seafood restaurant on Stradbroke Island selling plates of his catch - all of his catch, whatever the species or cut. Andrew is a fierce environmentalist, driven as much by sustainability as by cuisine. https://www.instagram.com/growerfisherchef/?hl=en Follow Fishtales, a Seafood Podcast on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/fishtalesseafoodpodcast/ Follow John Susman https://www.instagram.com/fisheads/?hl=en Follow Rob Locke (Executive Producer) https://www.instagram.com/foodwinedine/ Follow Huck (Executive Producer) https://www.instagram.com/huckstergram/ LISTEN TO OUR OTHER FOOD PODCASTS https://linktr.ee/DeepintheWeedsNetwork

Getting up there - episode 24!! Welcome back!! We are so happy to release this podcast, as this one is a mix of professional advice and adventure stories and goes out to all of you listeners to embrace your true ATHLETE. Our guest, Dempsey Ormrod, a Sunshine Coast Myotherapist and Exercise Physiologist through his own practice Myo Mechanics, gives his insights on how no matter skill, activity, or age that all of us everyday adventurers should treat our bodies to some good TLC! Finishing his studies at University of Sunshine Coast (USC), Dempsey started out at a clinic in Buderim until gaining the experience he needed to move into his own practice which is what he has been doing for about 6 years now. Dempsey also talks to us about his awesome 4WD adventures in his kitted out Defender with his fiance and his two dogs, Kiara and Joey, going to Stradbroke Island, K'gari (Fraser Island), and planning a trip up to Cape York. Many of these adventures he also does with a group, British Mafia. Being an advocate for health and ending 2021 on a serious health scare, Dempsey urges everyone to listen to your body, in whatever way it is trying to talk to you, and find yourself a good practitioner - whether that be a sports therapist to keep you healthy through your adventures, or a good general practitioner to help you find out why something just doesn't feel right. Dempsey has such a positive attitude through everything, and some great insights on how we can all take care of ourselves better. If you want to get in touch with Dempsey, hop over to his business page or follow him on Instagram @_dormrod. Thanks again for listening, we know you'll get a lot of out of this episode! We are ETERNALLY grateful for all of your support, we are so honoured to bring you these episodes fortnightly and still have heaps of amazing guests that we would love to have on in the future to bring you!
Pretty Produce is a multi-nationally award-winning edible flower farm driven by Simone Jelley. It has been in existence since 2014 and it was birthed from a new found obsession with gardening, the FIRST ever foray into gardening. During this time, Simone started researching edibility of plants, including flowers, and from there started designing products for the chefs and hospitality industry. It quickly spiralled out of control into a series of farming leases on a few residential islands located near Stradbroke Island off Redland Bay. Simone and Dave Jelley sold up on Macleay Island in 2019 to seek a suitable patch of land in Queensland's celebrated Scenic Rim region. Finally settling into a stunning 8-acre parcel of land snuggled in the misty valley heading up into the mighty Lamington National Park, surrounded by the ancient Gondwana forests of the Southern Queensland border lands.

For Indigenous artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins, it is never too late to fulfil your dreams. The respected artist has built an impressive body of work, with many coming to know her talent during the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, where her designs of the rare white whale Migaloo were featured on the commemorative medals, and in the opening ceremony. She has just opened a new gallery and studio space at Minjerribah, also known as Stradbroke Island, where her arts practice is inspired from. Andrea starts close to home in this first episode, in speaking with Mollie O’Connor, an Aboriginal law student whose family is from Minjerribah (also known as Stradbroke Island) near Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. As coordinator of its first access to justice hackathon Mollie is doing ground-breaking work as a founding member of The Legal Forecast, a not-for-profit organisation which aims to advance the legal profession through innovation and technology. She is a purpose driven individual, a humble and quiet achiever working on big things! In this episode Mollie reveals why a group of law students set up a not for profit organisation, what drives her career choices and the factors that will make the most difference for those innovating in law. Mollie may just be the cover girl for this podcast as she embodies its themes of innovation in law and a commitment to social justice. But in all seriousness, Mollie – and people like her - will be the guardians and leaders of the profession in the future. The theme of this episode would have to be the importance and effectiveness of awareness raising, information sharing, and education and Mollie is committed to doing that for the issues close to her heart, namely Indigenous Rights, innovation and access to justice. It was a delight talking with Mollie, please enjoy the conversation.
