Getting up there - episode 24!! Welcome back!! We are so happy to release this podcast, as this one is a mix of professional advice and adventure stories and goes out to all of you listeners to embrace your true ATHLETE. Our guest, Dempsey Ormrod, a Sunshine Coast Myotherapist and Exercise Physiologist through his own practice Myo Mechanics, gives his insights on how no matter skill, activity, or age that all of us everyday adventurers should treat our bodies to some good TLC! Put these guys together and you've got a tonne hilarious banter, quality dads jokes... and I guess a bit of knowledge and experience on how to manage and overcome injuries and chronic pain. The boys share their wisdom on common issues people experience including back pain, inflammation and bursitis, as well as sharing incredibly interesting information about various interesting injury and pain related topics. A massive thanks to these lads for creating a very enjoyable listen. Enjoy!
Living and working in remote areas can appear daunting at first, but it's stories like Anna Drum's that give glowing insight into what it's really like working in a rural space in the allied health sector. As a Myotherapist and the Founding Director of Capability Health, Anna opens up on the newest episode of the PPMP podcast about working in Weipa - a small town in Queensland, Australia. She bears many hats - from Myotherapist, to business owner, to recruiter, to finance officer - and shares what a typical day looks like for her while tackling everything on her plate. Whether you work in a rural area or not, all allied health business owners can get something out of Anna's story on the podcast. She explores how and why her team works so brilliantly, her process developing front-of-house through building the right systems, and how they maintain a sense of community. I think many of you can agree that managing time as a business owner is no easy feat - and Anna's insights into how she does it efficiently and productively are valuable to say the least. Part of that is about knowing when to ask for help. Are you asking for enough help when you need it? It may seem obvious, but it's easy for us to forget that when more help is around, the more we can achieve things. As Anna put so well, “Sometimes when you've got less time, you actually get more done.” Nacre Links: Website LinkedIn Twitter Facebook Instagram Pinterest See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Quite a few people joined the discussion about how the world views Massage Therapy after our discussion on a previous episode with guest Daniel, a Myotherapist in Australia. Massage Therapists are often viewed as the relaxation people, the muscle kneaders, the ones who you go see to relax your muscles, decrease stress, and part of a “self-care” routine. While we do have those skills, many therapists want the world to know that we are also soft tissue experts. We are the people you see to prevent and manage acute and chronic pain, improve range of motion and strength, and to maintain tissue health. All which ultimately affect movement and performance. A lot of RMTs are moving into the world of movement, including Lindsay and want to make others aware. Listen to Lindsay's approach to therapy and the direction she's moving in. We had a zoom call with Daniel, a Myotherapist in Australia. He listens to our podcast and just wanted to talk shop with us about what it's like practicing in Australia. He feels that what he does is close to what we do here in Canada as Massage Therapists. He wanted to talk about education, the public's perspective about what we do, what his practice has evolved to in his short career, and where he feels we need to move in our industry. We had a ton of fun talking with Daniel and love having conversations like these where we can hear different perspectives within our profession. Listen to three passionate therapists talk shop and rap about all things Massage Therapy from different sides on the globe! ConEdInstitute.com 2rmtsandamic.com

In the second episode of Better World Leaders our conversation is with a former Global Executive and entrepreneur who reflects on the twists and turns of his career with one very consistent theme - that as a leader he is there to serve his team and his customers through his principles.Simon's professional aspirations began in athletics, but after an unusual injury stopped that dream in it's tracks, his next step was his first of service, first qualifying in and then running a business as a Myotherapist. After selling this venture he was was offered a role in corporate and found that taking a consistent approach of serving his team and his customers based on his core values held him in good stead, and led to rapid success.Quickly he found himself leading Australia for Travelex, and after a merger with Western Union he progressed to lead both the Europe, Africa and Middle Eastern region and then AsiaPacific, seeing huge personal and commercial growth and success along the way.It was during this corporate tenure that he gained invaluable experience in Africa working with local not-for-profits in Rwanda, and found that he benefited not only from the sense of contributing, both also from learning as a leader - especially around purpose, resilience and the power of consistent communication. After moving on from corporate life, Simon applied all of his experience and insights to found an online fitness company, Welcome Fit, which he recently successfully sold.He now focuses on a new endeavour, Raised Hand, applying his energies to help out-of-work professionals contribute their skills and time to start-up businesses needing help to navigate the turbulent market conditions imposed by Co-Vid19 restrictions. Even though this venture is fresh out of the starting-blocks, it's already been applauded by Start-ups Victoria! Those that are out of work and willing to donate their time, and start-up businesses seeking help on a voluntary basis can find each other at Raisedhand.meThe key messages I received from this conversation were;- A team that operates from a core set of principles and values, and focus first on providing a great service and take pride in doing so, are unstoppable and there's no end to what you can do.- That culture and attitude are what drive sustainable growth.- That it's best not to attach happiness to achieving specific goals, better to be empowered by the overall purpose you are reaching for.- That as leaders it's important to allow a bit of ourselves into conversations with our teams and customers. This humanises the environment and makes communication easier.- That it's important for leaders to pause and reflect on how they are communicating with their teams, that their people need to feel valued and safe. You can find out more about Raised Hand at raisedhand.me, and connect with Simon via LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/simonglendenning/

In this episode, we’ll be talking about your admin team and how you can help them embrace the value of systems in your clinic. You see, as we’re going through this journey of growing our clinic, we’re looking to automate the daily tasks and operations of your practice so that it doesn’t solely rely on you or on anyone else in your business. The challenge that we’re faced with is that the admin team often feel like you are taking away their significance, worth, and value by adding these systems. But that’s not the case. And so, we need to help them understand where their value lies and let them know that they still have significant role in bringing in a great client experience.Listen to the full episode!QUOTES“The value of a receptionist is to provide a reception to a patient, whether over the phone or through email or in person. It’s literally to receive a person, to make them feel invited and cared for.”If you’d like help training your admin and receptionist, or perhaps you’ve implemented a change in the past that hasn’t really stuck, come along to one of our Grow Your Clinic Workshops where we can spend two days together, workshopping a plan for sustainable change, for engaging your team in that change. We’d love to work with you there. And if you like this episode of the Grow My Clinic podcast, please don't forget to like, share, comment, and give us your ratings on iTunes and Stitcher.
