In this episode we talk about the first dogs to survive space flight in 1960 and we talk about the crazy Korean War hero Melvin L. Brown. Then we get into a scientist's recent paper on malicious aliens living in our galaxy. Stay golden, honkies.

Founded by Vinca Kruk and Daniel van der Velden, Metahaven's body of work encompasses filmmaking, writing, objects, and graphics. Their activities offer a kind of cultural practice that doesn't shy away from producing knowledge and reflections; as much as the production of affect. We hear Daniel reflecting on their practice, through the notions of interface, agency, distribution, formats, versions, iterations, and many other potentials and obstacles towards making something meaningful and compelling. The incredibly talented Mike Disa stops by to chat about the third film in the animated Space Dogs trilogy. The movie drops on April 2nd and continues the adventures of Belka and Strelka, two animated dogs based on the real-life Russian animals that were sent to space decades ago. Disa has worked on plenty of Disney titles as well as Loony Tunes, Wacky Races, and Dante's Inferno. He offers an excellent and well-spoken perspective on the behind-the-scenes process of animated movies as well as expressing his passion for our history with space travel.

Part two of the episode with Benjamin Bratton one of the most interesting contemporary thinkers. In his work he bridges the gap between political theory and the techno-social realities and possibilities of our time. On the format: This Future Histories LIVE event came together as part of an invitation to hold a guest lecture at the Goldsmiths College in London. I proposed a format in which I would hold a short presentation on podcasting as a form of extended research and then record an episode live in front of the students. My warmest thanks go out to Mattia Paganelli for the invitation to hold the guest lecture, to Benjamin Bratton for taking part in the interview and discussion and to the students of the Goldsmiths' seminar on Computational Arts for their participation. In his work he bridges the gap between political theory and the techno-social realities and possibilities of our time.On the format:This Future Histories LIVE event came together as part of an invitation to hold a guest lecture at the Goldsmiths College in London. I proposed a format in which I would hold a short presentation on podcasting as a form of extended research and then record an episode live in front of the students. My warmest thanks go out to Mattia Paganelli for the invitation to hold the guest lecture, to Benjamin Bratton for taking part in the interview and discussion and to the students of the Goldsmiths' seminar on Computational Arts for their participation.ShownotesBenjamin Bratton's Homepage:http://www.bratton.info/Benjamin Bratton on Twitter:https://twitter.com/brattonWebsite of the Center for Design and Geopolitics:http://www.designgeopolitics.org/Bratton, Benjamin. 2016.

How can you stay mentally healthy and emotionally stable in the age of a total lack of stability? What are the ways to remain open and curious in today’s media climate? Do you rely on yourself or on the collective that surrounds you? In this episode we share a lecture by Brendan McGetrick, an independent writer, curator, designer, and former studio director at Strelka, in which he suggests the collaboration of two (The Duo) as a survival strategy by giving examples of Larry David & Jerry Seinfeld, Jean-Paul Sartre & Simone de Beauvoir, Walter Gropius & Johannes Itten, and many more.
