See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

She needed the flexibility that was provided by Uber Eats in order to have the space to prioritise her own self care. Her brilliant business idea (a different kind of G-String) qualified her for the Business Booster Program, which after a strong start is set to launch by the end of 2024 and eventually in the US as well. Hi everyone. Thanks for joining me for this new episode of Nepal Now. I'm Marty Logan. You might have noticed that this is an extra short episode. Frankly, that's because it will be the last one. After 3 years I'm saying goodbye. Why? Put simply, I don't have the energy to keep the show going any more. I didn't want to announce this at the end of the last full episode, because then I wouldn't have had the chance to say this: Thanks to all of you who are listening and to everyone who ‘tuned in' for one or more of the 64 episodes. I hope you took something away from the experience. I certainly did. I ‘met' a lot of people, most of them online, as you do in this globalized world in the era of Covid-19. I especially appreciate the chats I had with younger guests — which is most of them : -). I think their approach to life rubbed off on me a little, and that's a good thing. If I have one regret it's that I wish Nepal Now had been a little more entertaining, as opposed to informative. My journalism, mainly reporting on women and children's health and on human rights, often focuses on serious topics but, personally, I appreciate a good laugh. Looking back, I think that I should have included more of them in this work... Next time, I hope. A very big thank you to all of my guests, young and old, for sharing their time. I will single out the first guest, Nayantara Gurung Kakshapati, who very easily said yes to my invitation — and even loaned me an audio recorder afterwards. Special thanks to Lori, Shayne, Thom and Nicole, for encouraging me to keep going when I got discouraged way too early in this project. And to Suraya for helping me with social media, especially Instagram, where I was a total newbie. My biggest thank you goes to Niku, who was my advisor on all things Nepali, an insightful critic of my first drafts, and my biggest supporter. This might sound strange given that I'm ending Nepal Now, but I feel like doing this podcast helped to spark my creativity in recent years. I have always enjoyed audio as a medium for journalism and hope to continue using it in my future work. Till then, you can find me on social media and check out my latest work on my Linktree — I'm martydlogan. You will be able to listen to any episodes of the show that you've missed on your podcast app until mid-July. After that, they'll have a home on YouTube — look for @NepalNowPod.Speaking of chuckles, I want to leave you with an outtake from another podcast I've hosted — Strive, by IPS News. Bye for now. Episode No. 6 of the Art Throb Podcast features Marty Wayman, Suraya Shalash and Kris Ratliff who talk about the ActOut Theatre Group, with a focus on their roles in the upcoming production of Five Lesbians Eating Quiche.ActOut Theatre Group, was founded in 1997 by several individuals dedicated to sharing their passion with others. Based in Lexington, Kentucky it is an active and enthusiastic Theatre Group with events and activities taking place year-round. Their mission is to promote and produce quality, thought-provoking LGBTQ+-themed theater in and around the Central Kentucky region in a positive, supportive, and non-judgmental manner. Their intent is to be an all-inclusive entity encouraging all members of the Central Kentucky acting community to participate in theatre productions that addresses LGBTQ+ themes. They have a new production soon opening at the Black Box Theatre in the PMDAC. The play 5 Lesbians Eating Quiche, co-written by Andrew Hobgood and Evan Linder, finds five women assembled in a church basement (along with the audience – this is an interactive play) for the 1956 annual meeting of the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein's annual quiche breakfast. The normally idyllic gathering, where the motto is “no men, no meat, all manners,” is upended when the Society's matriarchs must confront the startling revelation that an atom bomb may be falling on their fair city. As fears are confronted and confessions fly, the chipper ladies stay firm in their commitment that the quiche is a mighty thing and that one must “respect the egg”.Marty Wayman is Director, Kris Ratliff plays Wren - The Events Chairperson, and Suraya Shalash plays Dale - The Historian. The show lasts about 1 hour and 20 minutes and is appropriate for women, men and young adults over 13.Performances at the Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center, 141 East Main Street, Lexington, KYFriday, Saturday, June 9 and 10, 8 o'clock curtain.Friday, Saturday, June 16 and 17, 8 o'clock curtain.Sunday, June 18, 2 o'clock curtain.
kate + jill are back with their newest idea for a reality show, a review of their weekends (which included ticks, jiujitsu, Suraya, and dress try-ons), and a hard-hitting discussion on gen z and their obsession with youtube?! Rihanna makes a guest appearance (per usual), kate reviews her latest fitness and active wear set try-ons including the latest from vuori, aritzia, and beyond yoga, and the girls tell you what your philly neighborhood says about you. hate mail expected, and if you can tell us where devil's pocket is, that'd be greatly appreciated. the episode wraps up with kate doing a full-on profile review of the bro jill's going out with this weekend, and dare we say she approves?! wild.
Running a business is a long and often exhausting journey and one of the key components to success is sustainability. In today's episode, I am chatting with Suraya Nikwan, an accredited practising dietician and nutritionist, and the owner of The Bariatric Collective. Suraya helps her clients who've experienced weight regain after bariatric surgery to build an enjoyable nourished life without dieting through her one-to-one consultations, group programs, podcast and online courses. Suraya is passionate about her mission and was working enormous hours every week to support her patients. She joined the Run Your Business Like A Boss Academy to learn how to transform her business to serve more patients, work less hours, overcome compassion fatigue and scale up. Suraya made a breakthrough in her business when she did the online business audit in the academy and discovered that her business values didn't align with her personal values. This realisation led her to make changes to her business model that freed her up to be available for her family while still running a very successful and fulfilling business. One of the most important things we explore when creating a sustainable business model is finding your business North Star. This is the guiding principle that will help you to make decisions and stay focused on your goals. It's so important to have a clear idea of what your business mission, values, and vision are so you can design your business model with these at the centre. Suraya talks about the power of being part of a group coaching program where you can benefit from the support, accountability and community of other members. Working with others and being held accountable can help to create breakthrough moments and make positive changes that will help your business grow.Suraya's story is a perfect example of how taking action and staying accountable can help you reach your goals. By joining a group coaching program and making the time to do the work, she was able to make positive changes in her business and create a more successful business model.Connect with Suraya NikwanWebsite: https://www.thebariatriccollective.com.au/Instagram: @thebariatriccollectivePodcast: Reverse the post-op regainLearn more about The Academy:If you want to know more about the Run Your Business Like A Boss Academy, check out the website and join the waitlist today: The Run Your Business Like a Boss Academy

This series has been launched as part of Trade for Peace: Future Leaders, a platform dedicated to increasing youth engagement on the topics of trade and peace by raising awareness about youth involvement in conflict and the essential role they can play in building peace through trade. But why are we focusing on youth? We now have the largest youth population in human history, with a third living in fragile and conflict affect states (FCS). Youth are often most affected by conflict but also most marginalized during post-conflict reconstruction. There is much to be done across the board to address youth exclusion, especially in the fields of trade and peace. Join Anais, Suraya and Nour from the WTO Trade for Peace team as they discuss how fragility and conflict generate particular challenges for both states and youth, and brainstorm what Future Leaders can do about them. Pay close attention to Suraya's journey! She was afraid to let anyone know about her personal issues, especially being a single mom of a special needs child. You'll notice the difference between Suraya's experience trying to maintain sobriety in isolation... opposed to her experience going through sobriety as an active member in a recovery fellowship. We NEED our people, our supportive community and validation from others like us. Listen to Suraya's journey and take her advice into consideration....perhaps you can save some time on your own journey in sobriety.Support the show

Fractional resources are people who are often freelancers, consultants and contractors whose involvement with a company falls outside the standard 9 to 5 or 40-hour a week setup. Through her company, Khazana Inc., Suraya Yahaya provides fractional resources at the executive level for companies looking to scale their businesses up. Suraya allows founders/ CEOs to focus on growth and investment while she runs the day-to-day operations using the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS). In this conversation with Stephen Jaye, Suraya discusses fractional resources, as well as other aspects of work culture important towards achieving employee satisfaction and growth. --- Listen to the podcast here: Powered by Podetize How To Use Fractional Resources For Your Business Effectively With Suraya Yahaya I am a big fan of the idea of fractional resources. In our work culture, we oftentimes assume that every single job needs to follow the same format and what people call the 9:00 to 5:00, 40 hours a week when not every need matches that exact paradigm and not every person necessarily wants to work in the same way. My guest has started a business that has a new feel to the idea of a fractional resource. I tend to think of the fractional resource as your freelancer who does twenty hours a week digital design. My guest, Suraya Yahaya, started a business where she acts as a Fractional Chief Operating Officer. Her business is Khazana Incorporated. --- Suraya, welcome to the show. Thank you so much for having me, Stephen. I appreciate it. This is an amazing idea. You are a Fractional Chief Operations Officer. Tell us about how that works? It's a little bit of a niche business now. Typically, you see chief operating officers in a company on a full-time basis because the chief operating officer is effectively running the company while the CEO is off doing market impact, talking to investors, large customers and the board is the face of the company. A fractional chief operating officer is to serve businesses that are pivoting, transforming, going through a ton of change and/or growing really fast so they need immediate support but not in a full-time scenario yet. There's so much change, transformation and growth happening that they don't quite have a niche carved out for a full-time person for a variety of reasons. There are cashflow issues and a lack of clarity on what a full-time person would do as the business continues to change, grow and transform fast. There are also a lot of transformation that needs to happen with a growing team. The idea is bringing someone on a fractional basis, still have them do all the work that a full-time COO would do, and help the company grow, transform, scale and work very closely with the CEO on the timing of when the business is at an inflection point to take the next step. Am I correct in characterizing this as people will talk about the entrepreneurial experience in starting a business? The common phrase you hear is that people are “wearing many hats,” or if it's individual, it's you starting the business. As you build it out, you are maturing and eventually, if you build it up to a large business, all your C-Suite leadership is going to be full-time people but there's a period of transition in between when you are growing from 1 to 300 people. Is that the correct understanding of how this works? I came from a very diverse background myself. I started as an attorney, went into operations strategy and ran big P&Ls. I had GM responsibilities growing and scaling a variety of different functions. The benefit of having someone come into a company that is itself growing and scaling so quickly is someone like myself can wear multiple hats. That's a great benefit of other fractional resources. That person is not coming in and saying, “Stephen, you hired me to be an accountant. That's all I'm going to do.” That person coming in is going to be like,
Fractional resources are people's whose involvement with a company falls outside the standard 9-to-5 40 hour a week setup. They are often freelancers, consultants and contractors. However, through her company Khazana Inc., Suraya Yahaya is providing fraction resources at the executive level for companies looking to scale up. Through this service Suraya allows founders/ CEOs to focus on growth and investment while she runs the day-to-day operations using the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS). Opening up more options for different work setups is an important part of creating a world where more people can properly align their lives with who they are. In this episode, we discuss fractional resources, as well as other aspects of work culture important towards making work more enjoyable for more people.

In this episode, you will meet Suraya Keating - a woman who teaches classical Shakespeare acting to prison inmates in the United States. Evidence suggests that arts education programs in prisons, such as this one, reduces recidivism. In other words, this training reduces the likelihood that a prisoner will re-offend and break the law again after being freed. Suraya's classes are diverse, comprised of a variety of people who don't normally associate in the prison environment, but who come together for deep play within the stories of Shakespeare.By taking on the emotional lives of these characters and learning to live truthfully within the character's imaginary life circumstances, the students develop empathy and are freed to express a range of emotions safely in class that they often feel unable to show in the prison environment (like sadness, fear or rage). In this episode we will explore Suraya's remarkable story and the lives she's affected through teaching Shakespeare to prisoners. In this Episode, You Will LearnWe're all born with the ability to use our imaginations and playAbout the healing power of playHow theatre and Shakespeare training can help people develop empathy and be emotionally presentSome intense moments and lessons learned from teaching Shakespeare in San Quentin State PrisonHow prisoners write and perform their own theater pieces based on their lives and themes from ShakespeareHow deep play brings people from all different racial, religious and economic class backgrounds togetherHow to reframe our view of mistakes and our relationship to failureHow prisoners grapple with the challenging language of ‘Old English' and apply the narrative themes of Shakspeare to their lives (Thanks to podcast listener Geniya Avilov for submitting this question)Suraya's journey from growing up in an achievement oriented Jewish family in New York City to helping others through drama therapy and joyful deep playHow Suraya is most present when she's serving others in the way she wants to be serving othersA lesson from Rick on emotions: Thank YouHow when we're highly triggered, it's often not the best time for dialogue“A sailor doesn't learn how to sail on a calm sea”What scares SurayaSuraya's goalsLinks and ResourcesShakespeare for Social Justice and Training in Theatre For Social Justice by Marin ShakespeareAbout Suraya KeatingTedX San Quentin: Parallel Plays - “Ever wonder how prisoners greet each other or what they think about love?
