He's baaaaaack! That's right! Musician/singer/director/author FRANK MEYER is back for the fourth time on BEHIND THE LENS. Frank was initially scheduled to be in-studio for the entire hour, but due to a last-minute emergent situation, was unable to be here in person but still joined us via phone for the majority of the show. Fresh off his whirlwind tour with The Streetwalkin' Cheetahs in Spain and with more fun surprises in the offing, Frank talks about it all. Upcoming LP and EP releases, band merchandise (and boy did the fans in Spain love the merch!!), more touring for Frank, some great advice for creatives and particularly musicians/bands/singers about where to place your music for audience consumption so you get more of the money versus an entity like Spotify. Some very helpful insights from Frank. And if you think Frank was on a whirlwind, how about a short recap of some of my highlights from this past week's TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood celebrating the 15th Annual TCM Classic Film Festival AND the 30th Anniversary of Turner Classic Movies! Plus, hear what John Travolta had to tell me about the importance of TCM. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Maggie speaks extensively with Film historian, educator and author Donald Bogle is one of the foremost authorities on African Americans in the movies. With a series of provocative, culturally significant books, Bogle almost single-handedly pioneered the study, appreciation, and value of the work and achievements--as well as the heroic struggles--of Black artists working in films. With his very first book, Donald Bogle won the Theatre Library Association Award for Film. That book, now in its 5th expanded, updated edition, it is considered a classic study of Black movie images in America and is used in courses at colleges and universities around the country. Mr. Bogle has also appeared as a commentator on television, including Henry Louis Gates's Peabody award-winning PBS series The African-Americans: Many Rivers to Cross. He also has a long association with Turner Classic Movies and, in his recent book "Hollywood Black: The Stars, The Films, The Filmmakers" (which is a Turner Classic Movies film book) he has continued his pioneering examination of African American film history. Turner Classic Movies pays tribute to our late host, Robert Osborne, with the Robert Osborne Award, presented annually at the TCM Classic Film Festival to an individual whose work has helped preserve the cultural heritage of classic film for future generations. In 2023, TCM honors film historian, author, and professor Donald Bogle for his pioneering studies of African American cinema and his tireless efforts to elevate the achievements of Black performers and filmmakers. Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about filmmakers! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. Today, Dan and Conor have a brief, lovely chat with filmmaker Bill Morrison, who blew many cinephiles away with Dawson City: Frozen Time a few years back. We were lucky enough to speak with him then about the film and its inception. This time around, Morrison has a short film called let me come in, which is having its world broadcast premiere as part of the TCM Classic Film Festival on May 7th. let me come in re-purposes footage from the lost 1928 silent film Pawns of Passion with the entrancing touch that only Morrison can employ, accompanied by a new song by composer David Lang and performed by soprano Angel Blue. We discuss the new film with Morrison, the negative review Pawns of Passion actually got from The New York Times back in 1929 (!), and his upcoming film The Village Detective: A Song Cycle, which just recently premiered at the Moscow International Film Festival.
