This January might have seen deals more scarce than usual, but there was still plenty going on as the transfer window raged across the first month of 2021. We're here to pick up what was hot (and a little of what was not) as Sam ranks the best five deals that have happened in the month just gone. With Liverpool finally signing some centre-back cover (for one of which we sought expert advice from our friend, NTT20's Ali Maxwell), Atléti bringing in a top marksman, Brighton bolstering the Latin cohort down on the South Coast, Gladbach-ing up their midfield options and the Cobham Cannavaro switching Chelsea for Milan, there's plenty to discuss - and we go around the grounds to look at a few deals that perhaps slipped under your radar too. There's also, of course, a Melon of the Week (and it's a huge shock choice from Dean) and we try to rank every Bean in the Gibberish Rankings. It's Ranks! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

This January is as much a month to remember as it was to forget. We’ll keep the serenity we need by softening the blow with music while also celebrating the good with swing, country, rhythm and gospel in another eclectic free form show on Sonoma County community radio. Cold weather and rain arrives so we’ll share the soul sounds of William Bell and Johnnie Taylor, some folk rock from Linda Ronstadt, swing vocals from The Mills Brothers and The Four Vagabonds, and gospel with Lou Rawls and the Pilgrim Travelers. We’ll visit Shenandoah, The Red River Valley, and Forty Miles of Bad Road in our Friday morning show, recorded this week in the Deeper Roots Den. I hope you’ll join us.

Make no mistake, what took place on congress and capital hill on Wednesday 1/7/2021 is unacceptable behavior. I do not believe that this in anyway portrays Trump supporters in the way that the media is projecting.    What I do disagree with is all of the people who say that they are 'shocked' that something like this happened.    We have had the lockdowns and social media censorship place tape over all of our mouths and bind our legs for an entire year.    This January date was important to so many and those same people simply had enough and wanted a platform to have their voices heard.    In today's episode, I am going to share how vital it is for us to realize the importance of our spoken word.    Like what you hear? My Facebook feed popped up and reminded me that I had recorded a podcast 6 years ago with musician Byron Nash. Years ago we were only acquaintances in the service industry. About a year ago I ran into him, and could sense both of us were in the process of looking for something more in our lives, and also from the relationships we had with others. I asked if he wanted to grab a matcha, and we met and discovered we were both aligned in our wishes. We wanted someone we could bounce ideas off of, to inspire one another, lift each other up, and truly listen to each other without judgement. It became a relationship that I truly cherish. Byron and I have both been in a transitional state the past few years, taking our health and wellness more seriously, which naturally seeped into what we want to put back out into the world. To help people, educate, and at the same time keep ourselves learning and growing along that journey. I reached out to him and wanted to see if he would like to come back on the show and talk about our relationship as it relates to who we are now and also Not being afraid to evolve past who you think you were. How important it is to find an accountability partner to achieve success. This podcast starts with our origin story, leads to our tips for finding a accountability partner and why they are so important and leads to talking about where we both are headed, and why we feel great about that direction. We hope it inspires others to search for the people around you that are positive forces in your life, and also so you can be a positive force in theirs. Check Byron out on his website or hire him as your personal coach! You would not find somebody better to help you achieve your personal goals. Speaking of accountability, I am offering listeners to this podcast the discount code “partner” to take $100 off the cost of my new wellness course 3 To Be Me- A Guided Journey of Self Discovery Through Total Body Connection launches THIS January 2021. Allow me to be your accountability partner and guide. Who is this course for? For anyone that NEEDS a reset in their lives. This course is for someone that is ready for a change. For anyone feeling uninspired, foggy, sluggish, lacking creativity, or overwhelmed. This is your moment to choose self care and reset. Everyone wants to feel better, happier, and have clarity of mind and body, they just don’t have the tools needed to succeed. Allow me to provide those to you. I have cracked the code of achieving total body connection, and am bringing all my knowledge that brought me back from my 200lb weight, shifted my habits, and most importantly had me tuning into my intuition. 3 To Be Me is broken down into a simple 3 week step by step practical course for you to take action and make a change!

Episode Timeline: How Shop Rock n Rags started 0:58 I’ve always been had a very entrepreneurial spirit since I was a young girl and always had a real love of fashion. So I always knew that I wanted to work in fashion someday. So about 7 and a half years ago, we launched Rock and Rags the boutique. This January, we launched shoprocknrags.com, which is our online site and it has just taken off. Brand Ambassador Programs 2:21 The biggest challenge is the demand. A lot of people feel inspired by the brand, which I’m also happy and fortunate about but it’s just processing all of those incoming requests and people who want to be part of it of how can we make the most of this for both of them and us. How did you get 200,000 followers?3:06 Everything changed when we went viral on Tiktok. Our numbers began to skyrocket over a short period of time. We went from what was 9,000 followers on Instagram at the beginning of the year to over 75,000. Our new TikTok page now has over 150,000 followers, and our email subscribers, which was a handful of our in-store customers are now over 50,000 and so much of this came from Tiktok. Difference between Tiktok and Real Life 4:23 Something I learned about social media is it can make a difference to have the first user advantage. We read somewhere that being on TikTok back then was like investing in Apple in the 80s so we put some resources and tested different styles of videos and content. Eventually and then it was a lot easier. Our videos started getting more traction and similarly, with Instagram, virality seems to come after you have an established following. And then it's a lot easier for you to get seen by people. How important is your website for your business? 5:16 Our website is vital. It is the fastest-growing part of our business. And through our online presence, we can communicate with our customers especially through social media. What advice can you give to business owners looking to start their online shop? 6:08 If you can get a paid position that will teach you the skills for what you need to know for your business, there’s no telling how far you can go because you learn so much working for other people and the knowledge you get can be applied to your passions. How did the Corona Virus affect your business? 7:21 The biggest learning was understanding that you have to be ready. You have to be flexible. What is the best business publication? 9:53 I love reading Business of fashion. I think that they have a very unique take on the fashion industry and the ins and outs of that What is the one thing you purchased during the Quarantine that you’re thankful for? 10:33 That definitely would be my seat sets. I bought a ridiculous amount of sweat shorts because you just want to be comfy in these times, especially if you're working from home. So that is my essential. In this episode I talk with my friend Josh Alvarez about his commitment to investing in his creative outlets (music and podcasting) while working in the helping professions. Josh beautifully illustrates the importance of maintaining creativity in balance with compassion, and he highlights the ways we can find bits and snippets of time to cultivate creativity in our daily lives.   A note from Josh: Hello! My name is Josh Alvarez & Dana asked me to be on her podcast. Now, you may be asking yourself how Dana managed to get the internationally ignored song stylist & podcaster barely standing before you for this episode of Help for the Helpers, but the answer is really quite simple: she is the best & one would be a fool to deny her request to chitchat. In addition to the aforementioned jobs of “singer” & “podcaster”, I’m also a mental health technician on an acute inpatient psych unit.   Josh’s music can be found at CROSSED KEYS and his SOLO project. This January marked the commencement of the "Decade of Action"--the final 10 year period to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals. With the global finance gap to achieve the SDGs in the trillions, one question that has emerged is: how can the private sector generally, and corporate brands with global scale in particular, play a role in driving achievement of the SDGs? And how can business models for major corporate brands align with sustainable development, notably in the world's least developed countries? As the first corporate guest of the Capital Musings podcast, we welcomed Ezgi Barcenas—Global Vice President of Sustainability with ABInBev—to the show. Ezgi discussed how the world's largest brewer has taken on the task of incubating scalable sustainability solutions, the reasoning for the corporation's sustainability agenda, and how the company repurposed its resources to respond to COVID-19. She also discusses the role that individual consumers can play in advancing the SDGs.
