For most of human history, space has been a place we visited. The next chapter may be about building there. For decades, space was the domain of governments, astronauts, and science fiction. Today, falling launch costs, reusable rockets, and a new generation of ambitious founders are turning orbit into something else entirely: a place to build. The question is no longer whether humanity can construct large-scale infrastructure in space, but what we should build first—and why.In this episode of TechSurge, host Sriram Vishwanath speaks with Dr. Ariel Ekblaw, Founder and CEO of Aurelia Institute, Research Affiliate at MIT's Space Exploration Initiative, and founder of Rendezvous Robotics. Ariel has spent her career exploring one of the most fundamental challenges of the emerging space economy: how to build structures in orbit that are far larger than anything that can fit inside a rocket.Ariel explains the origins of TESSERAE, her pioneering work on autonomous self-assembling space architecture, and how ideas borrowed from biology, swarm intelligence, and modular construction could unlock a future of massive solar arrays, communications infrastructure, orbital laboratories, and eventually human habitats in space. The conversation explores the rapidly emerging market for in-orbit infrastructure, including AI data centers in space, space-based solar power, and the technologies needed to support a permanent industrial presence beyond Earth. Ariel breaks down the engineering realities behind these ideas—why cooling data centers in space is harder than most people assume, how autonomous assembly could solve the scale problem, and why the future of orbital infrastructure may look more like a business park than a collection of standalone satellites.Sriram and Ariel also discuss the broader implications of humanity's return to space: the economics unlocked by reusable launch systems, the opportunities created by dramatically lower transportation costs, and the second-order innovations that may emerge from building an industrial ecosystem in orbit. Along the way, they examine space debris, stewardship of the orbital commons, artificial gravity, and what it will take to make long-term human habitation in space viable. At the heart of the discussion is Ariel's belief that space is not an escape from Earth's problems, but a tool for solving them. Whether through advanced manufacturing, new energy systems, biotechnology research, or entirely new industries, she argues that the next era of space exploration should be focused on improving life here at home.Sign up for our newsletter at techsurgepodcast.com for updates on upcoming TechSurge Live Summits and future episodes.Links:Ariel Ekblaw on LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/arielekblawAurelia Institute:https://www.aureliainstitute.orgRendezvous Robotics:https://www.rdvrobotics.comMIT Space Exploration Initiative:https://www.media.mit.edu/groups/space-exploration/overview/How Aurelia is Designing Self-Assembling Space Stations: https://www.fastcompany.com/91242689/how-the-aurelia-institute-is-designing-a-self-assembling-space-stationOverview Energy (Space-Based Solar Power): https://www.overviewenergy.comStarCatcher Industries (Space-to-Space Power Transmission): https://www.starcatcherindustries.comImpulse Space (Orbital Transportation): https://www.impulsespace.comReferences Mentioned During the DiscussionEarthrise - The Apollo 8 Photograph: https://www.nasa.gov/image-article/apollo-8-earthrise/Carl Sagan's “Pale Blue Dot”: https://www.planetary.org/worlds/pale-blue-dotBuckminster Fuller Institute: https://www.bfi.orgWatch Ariel's Talks & InterviewsAurelia Institute YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@AureliaInstituteAriel's TED Talk: https://youtu.be/IHrGK3Mu5K4?si=QwGHq1BEoB-QMUjkSpace Business Podcast - Self-Assembling Space Habitats with Ariel Ekblaw: https://spacebusiness.podbean.com/e/137-self-assembling-space-habitats-ariel-ekblaw-founder-ceo-aurelia-institute/Further ReadingNASA's Artemis Program: https://www.nasa.gov/artemisInternational Space Station (ISS): https://www.nasa.gov/international-space-stationAurelia Institute's Vision for Humanity's Future in Space: https://www.aureliainstitute.orgMIT News: Supporting Mission-Driven Space Innovation: https://news.mit.edu/2025/supporting-mission-driven-space-innovation-aurelia-institute-0710Timestamps:[00:00] Highlights[00:34] Welcome to the Episode[02:33] The New Space Race Begins[04:10] Meet Dr. Ariel Ekblaw[06:30] Why We Explore Space? [12:53] How She Discovered Self-Assembly at MIT [17:10] How TESSERAE Tiles Build Themselves[20:14] How the Tiles Coordinate Like a Swarm[24:47] Repairing and Reconfiguring Structures in Orbit[28:32] Why the Space Industry Is Exploding Now[34:25] The Case for AI Data Centers in Space[45:21] How Much Compute Will Move to Space?[48:40] Why This Space Era Is Different[52:24] The Growing Problem of Space Debris[55:14] Building the Next SpaceX[57:27] What Could Go Wrong in Space?[59:33 ] How Many Hours of Gravity Do Humans Need?[01:00:38] Why We Should Build in Low Earth Orbit First[01:05:09] Should We Really Colonize Mars?[01:11:27] Could You Commute to Space for Work?[01:13:50] Who Makes the Rules in Space?[01:22:30] What's Overhyped and Underhyped in Space[01:26:57]What's the Real Story in Space?

Instead of a single guest, this episode brings together the voices behind the podcast to unpack what stood out most from unforgettable guests and powerful community moments to the realities that don't always make it onto social media. The group shares personal hunting stories, including first harvests, missed shots, and the emotional highs and lows that come with time in the field. From elk hunts in the mountains to first-time duck hunters finding their confidence, this episode highlights how growth often comes through failure, persistence, and shared experiences. They also dive into deeper themes: the rise of women in hunting, the importance of mentorship and communication, and how intentional time outdoors can restore balance in an otherwise fast-paced life. Whether it's teaching beginners, navigating fear around firearms, or simply making time to get outside, the conversation emphasizes progress over perfection. The Dachshund is one of the most recognized dogs on the planet and one of the most misunderstood. Somewhere between the viral videos and the Halloween costumes, people forgot what this breed actually is: a working scent hound developed in Germany over centuries to track, dig, and confront badgers underground — an animal that can weigh as much as the dog hunting it and is far more aggressive. That history didn't disappear when the Dachshund became a household pet. It just went unread. In this episode of The Dog Behind the Human, Coach Francis goes deep on the Dachshund. We cover the breed's actual origin — not the cute version — and why its body was engineered for a job most owners never think about. We look at the behavioral profile that comes with that engineering: the independence, the vocalizing, the prey drive, the intense loyalty that tips into resource guarding when boundaries are absent. And we address the elephant in the room — IVDD, the spinal condition that affects up to one in four Dachshunds, and how the way owners manage the fear of it often makes the dog's behavioral problems worse. The Dachshund is not stubborn. It is not aggressive. It is not a lap ornament shaped like a sausage. It is a hunter in a small body — and when we treat it like anything else, we fail it. This episode is about getting it right.

My Own Fear Practice: 3 Real Stories From My Life and Business

The Coaching r(E)volution

Most conversations about fear in coaching stay theoretical. In this episode, Joanna Lindenbaum gets personal. She shares three real stories from her own Befriend Your Fear practice — fears that showed up in her life and business, what it actually felt like to work with them, and what became possible on the other side. Not as case studies. Not as teaching examples. As lived experience, told honestly. Along the way, she names something she rarely says this plainly: she credits 50% of her business success to the quality of her client work, 40% to her own inner work — with the Befriend Your Fear practice at the center of that — and only 10% to actual marketing. Ten percent. Because real transformation, in a business and in a life, doesn't come from better strategy. It comes from doing the deeper work. She also explores one of the most underexplored dimensions of fear: the difference between personal fear and tribal fear. Some of the fear shaping your behavior didn't originate in your own lifetime. It was handed down through family lines, through ancestral trauma, through cultural messaging so pervasive it stopped feeling like a message and started feeling like truth. Joanna shares from her own life — including her family's experience of the Holocaust and how generational fear of visibility shaped her own path — and explains why you cannot logic, reframe, or talk your way out of fear that lives at this depth. If you've been treating your inner work as something to get to eventually — or if you're curious what a real, consistent fear practice actually looks like in a real person's life — this episode is for you.     What You'll Hear in This Episode: Three honest, personal stories from Joanna's own BYF practice — across her personal life, her business, and a decision that scared her more than she expected Why inner work drives business results more than marketing — and the specific breakdown Joanna uses to think about this The difference between personal fear and tribal (ancestral/cultural) fear — and why most practitioners are only working with half the picture How unworked fear quietly runs your business: the follow-up you don't send, the post you don't publish, the offer you don't make Why fear doesn't go away on its own — and what it costs when it goes unexamined Why this work is harder to do on yourself than with a skilled guide — and what it takes to build a real inner work practice over time A simple next step you can take this week to start seeing where fear is running things for you     This Episode Is for You If: You're a coach, therapist, or transformational practitioner who knows there's a deeper level available — in your client work and in yourself You've noticed fear, procrastination, or avoidance showing up in your business and you're not sure how to work with it skillfully You're curious about somatic coaching, trauma-informed coaching, or nervous system-based approaches to fear You want to understand why clients stay stuck even when they have insight — and what to do about it You're ready to stop treating your inner work as optional     Resources + Links Mentioned: Befriend Your Fear Method Certification — Learn the six-step BYF process, develop your somatic and trauma-informed skillset, and do this work on yourself as a core part of the training. 60 days, live training with Joanna, practice sessions, and a real practitioner community. https://applieddepthinstitute.com/podcast-befriend-your-fear

Chase brings a boots-on-the-ground perspective, discussing field investigations, evidence collection, and the patterns he's noticed in reported sightings across Ohio. His insights offer a grounded, methodical approach that contrasts perfectly with some of the more mysterious elements discussed throughout the episode.   As the conversations continue, James stops by the booth to share his personal encounter—an experience that clearly left a lasting impression. His story is raw and unfiltered, capturing the shock, confusion, and awe that often accompany sightings of something that shouldn't exist. It's a powerful reminder that behind every report is a real person trying to make sense of what they witnessed.   Maria Munoz adds another layer to the episode with her own experiences and reflections. Her story brings an emotional depth, highlighting how encounters with the unexplained can shape beliefs, challenge perceptions, and even alter life paths. She speaks openly about what it means to carry these experiences and the importance of finding a community that listens without judgment.   Finally, George rounds out the episode with a perspective that ties many of the themes together. His insights touch on the broader mystery of Bigfoot and the unknown, leaving listeners with more questions than answers—in the best way possible.   Throughout the episode, Joe keeps the energy engaging and authentic, creating a space where each guest feels comfortable sharing their truth. The live setting adds an extra layer of excitement, with the buzz of the conference floor serving as a constant reminder that these stories are part of a much larger, ongoing conversation.   This episode is perfect for longtime believers, curious skeptics, and anyone fascinated by the unexplained. Caro — the Colombian food blogger behind Colombian Foodie — grew up in Cali, has been living in Berlin since 2014, and has spent years teaching people outside Colombia how to make empanadas, arepas, and the dishes that shaped her. In this first part of our conversation, she gives us a real, grounded introduction to Colombian cuisine — not the tourist version, but the one that comes from actually growing up there. We talk about the foundations: bandeja paisa, sancocho, lechona, tamales, and empanadas — where they come from, what they're made of, and why so many of them are hearty enough to feed a day of mountain labor. Then we go deep on arepas. Like, really deep. Over 130 varieties, the difference between how Colombians and Venezuelans eat them, and why the women who wake up at 3am to make them from real corn deserve a lot more credit than they get.Part 2 is coming — street food, soups, fruit you've never heard of, and Colombian food abroad. Welcome back to PPN – The Precision Medicine Pharmacist. In part one of our series, Precision Psychiatry in Practice – A Pharmacist–Physician Collaboration, we explored how a collaborative approach can begin to reshape psychiatric care — building trust, aligning perspectives, and creating space for more personalized treatment. Today, we move deeper into what that looks like in real-world, integrative medicine psychiatry. I'm excited to welcome back Dr. Saba Arshad, joined by Dr. Afshan Khan, as we explore how their partnership brings together different clinical perspectives to care for the whole patient — not just symptoms, but the broader context of mental health, lifestyle, and individualized needs. In this episode, Precision in Practice: Real Stories, Real Results in Integrative Psychiatry, we focus on the human side of collaboration. How do two clinicians with different training and strengths come together to approach complex cases? What does shared decision-making really look like in practice? And how does this integrative model shape better patient outcomes? We'll walk through real patient cases, explore the dynamics of their collaboration, and uncover how this partnership continues to evolve to meet patients where they are. If part one introduced the foundation, today's episode brings that collaboration to life. Let's dive in.

From Tolerating to Delighting: Marriage Transformation Is Possible (feat. Gary Thomas & Belah Rose) Imagine this: Your husband is working nights and you are cleaning houses during the day.    When you find out you are pregnant, you pursue a dream of writing a book.   Every morning you walk to the coffee shop just down the street to write.    One of your favorite things to do is listen to books about marriage. One of your favorite books on the topic is written by Gary Thomas. In his book, Sacred Marriage, he asks, "What if marriage is meant to make us holy instead of happy?"   Now, fast forward just a few years.    You are having a conversation with that author, and he tells you he is a fan of your work.    Fast forward a couple more years, and you get to be mentored by this same author.    Eventually, it becomes evident that he and I can help more couples by joining forces and creating a collaboration where he shares his wisdom through books and speaking, and you are able to provide coaching and accountability for people after they read the books or attend the conferences.   That is the story I am sharing with you today as I announce a collaboration with Gary Thomas, bestselling author and speaker.   In this episode, we share how God truly has a plan for your marriage. He is the one who changes lives, and we have been able to see that in both of our work.   I want to encourage you that God can take your loaves and fishes and do something amazing. He can take your willingness. He can take your bit of faith, and He can make a marvelous tapestry for His glory.   Just yesterday, we had two amazing graduations. Both individuals were changed themselves. And their spouse changed in response, though their spouses did not do the work.    That can be your story, too. We would love to witness God perform that miracle through biblical principles made practical on the inside.   Listen to today's podcast to understand Gary's heart and mine regarding the work we do, and now do together.   Thank you, Gary, for the honor!   And thank you, listener, for your love, support, and prayers. I am honored to be able to serve in this way and am trusting God for more healed hearts.   God bless you,   Belah PS - Marriage Transformation is real. Schedule a free Clarity Call and start your journey to a playful, peaceful, purposeful marriage. PPS - Here is a quote from a recent Coaching program graduate:  My wife and I struggled to get along...We were so intimately disconnected that it led to months of no sexual intimacy...it was so painful. We constantly fought about any and everything...I had gone into various counseling programs, spiritual formations, soul care, discipleship...But nothing was really changing our relationship... [Now,] God is answering my prayers and faith is becoming a reality. She is opening up, sharing her thoughts and feeling safe and connected...She is trusting me again...[We] have been having sex again...I am in such a better place and praise God for leading me to Belah and DYM.   Here is an AI-generated summary of today's episode: A New Christ-Centered Partnership for Marriage Transformation Gary Thomas and Belah Rose announce a meaningful new collaboration between Gary's marriage ministry work and Belah's ministry, Delight Your Marriage. Their shared desire is to help marriages be healed, strengthened, and transformed for the glory of God. Belah Rose's Story: From Brokenness to Marriage Ministry Belah shares how her own painful first marriage, divorce, and season away from Jesus shaped her calling. After experiencing healing through Christ and through the love of her husband, Darrow, she became passionate about helping others avoid the pain she had walked through. Her heart for Delight Your Marriage was born from the realization that marriage can either deeply wound or deeply heal—and that intimacy is often a powerful catalyst in that process. Why One Spouse Can Still Make a Difference A major theme of the conversation is that transformation can begin with just one spouse doing the work. Gary and Belah emphasize that this is not about blame or manipulation. Instead, it is about reclaiming God-given influence, loving your spouse as an act of obedience to Christ, and allowing God to change the atmosphere of the marriage. Understanding How Men and Women Receive Love Differently Belah explains the Delight Your Marriage framework for helping spouses love each other well. For wives, the focus is often helping them feel: Safe Known Wholeheartedly cherished For husbands, the focus is often helping them feel: Respected Admired Wholeheartedly intimate Gary affirms that while every person is unique, there are real patterns in how men and women often experience love, safety, respect, and intimacy. Rebuilding Intimacy Without Pressure or Manipulation Gary and Belah address the pain of sexless, disconnected, or emotionally distant marriages. They explain that true intimacy is not about obligation or pressure, but mutual joy, desire, safety, and love. Belah shares that many spouses come into the program wanting change in intimacy, but through the process, their motivation becomes deeper: loving their spouse well because they love God. Real Stories of Marriages Being Restored Belah shares several powerful examples of transformation, including: A couple who had gone 10 years without intimacy and experienced renewed connection after three months of doing the work. A wife whose husband had been checked out through video games, but who became more engaged, responsible, and affectionate after she changed her approach. A husband whose wife had been emotionally cold and distant, but who later began coming toward him with affection, conversation, and intimacy. Hope for Marriages That Feel Dead and Buried Gary and Belah are honest that not every marriage has a guaranteed outcome, especially when divorce, abuse, abandonment, or unsafe dynamics are involved. But they also emphasize that God can resurrect marriages that seem completely hopeless. Through Christ, practical tools, humility, and accountability, many couples have experienced healing they never thought possible. What Happens on a Clarity Call Belah explains that the first step is a free Clarity Call. During the call, a trained advisor listens deeply to the person's story, prays for them, and helps identify what may be at the root of the marital struggle. From there, some people are invited to a Program Discovery Call to discern whether coaching is the right next step. Why Accountability Matters in Marriage Growth Gary explains that books, conferences, and resources can be helpful, but many people need someone to walk with them personally. Belah shares that Delight Your Marriage offers coaching, structure, small-group support, prayer, and accountability so participants are not trying to change alone. Help for Good Marriages That Want to Become Great The program is not only for marriages in crisis. Belah explains that even strong marriages can have hidden "leaks"—small areas where connection, intimacy, communication, or delight could become stronger. Sometimes a marriage that seems good can become far better than either spouse knew was possible. Support for Pastors, Missionaries, and Ministry Marriages Belah and Gary also discuss the importance of supporting pastors, missionaries, and ministry couples. Many leaders feel isolated in their marriage struggles, and Delight Your Marriage offers a private, Christ-centered place to receive help. Belah shares that scholarships are available for some full-time ministers. Special Invitation for Gary Thomas's Audience To celebrate the partnership, Belah shares a special offer for Gary Thomas's audience. Those who sign up and share that they were referred by Gary Thomas can receive $500 or more in savings if they sign up for a Clarity Call and coaching before May 15. Final Encouragement: There Is Real Hope for Your Marriage Gary and Belah close with a message of hope. A painful marriage does not have to stay the same. A distant marriage can become connected again. A marriage that feels dead can be revived by the power of Jesus. The invitation is simple: take the next step, begin with a Clarity Call, and discover what God may want to heal.
