Si es la primera vez que llegas, me presento, soy Dan Campos, y por más de veinte años he estado escribiendo sobre estos temas.Notas completas del episodio solo en Patreon. La semana pasada se anunció con bombo y platillo la inversión de Netflix, la cual, a diferencia de un anunció del 2022, sí tenía credibilidad ya que fue el mismo Co-CEO quien la presentó, y no un presidente municipal que después fue desmentido ya que eso del se fuera a construir el estudio de cine más grande de latinoamérica en Ecatepec fue algo que solo ocurrió en su cabeza.La inversión se plantea para el desarrollo de 20 producciones en un periodo de 4 años. Además, se plantea una inversión de 2 millones para optimizar los Estudios Churubusco, lo cual lleva a otra escala la inversión que se hizo en Cine Tonalá para equipar con gran calidad de audio y Roma se pudiera ver en sus salas como debía hacerse. En línea similar, el año pasado se anunció otro fondo de 1 millón de dólares para “desarrollo de carreras en la industria del entretenimiento”.Mil millones suena a mucho dinero, y lo es. Es algo que el capital local y las productoras nacionales no pueden financiar tan fácilmente. El 11 de febrero salió la nota en que Billy Rovzar, de Lemon Studios, anunciaba que buscaban la creación de un fondo de inversión de 50 millones de dólares para producir 32 películas en seis años. Las cantidades son muy dispares, y miren que Lemon Films en su momento era algo así como “el nuevo cine mexicano, que no hace cintas contemplativas sino de género”, como Matando Cabos o KM 31 nos recuerdan… y después cayeron en el olvido, aunque ahora tienen producciones tanto para ViX, Netflix, o Apple TV, pero que no han logrado explotar algo que el mismo Billy dice es su propósito con el nuevo fondo, al enfocarse en la propiedad intelectual. Algo que cuestiono porque sus secuelas de las cintas mencionadas son terribles. Todo mundo quiere decir que está desarrollando personajes o historias que pueden trascender y explotarse como universos multimedia, pero se les olvida que para eso primero necesitan establecerlos como productos explotables, y más importante, interesantes. Me platican cuando encuentren al Spider-Man mexicano.La creación de un ecosistema de producción sustentable, con mano de obra barata, también puede ser una válvula de escape ante las negociaciones que se dan de manera regular con los distintos gremios. Recordemos que por el de guionistas se estuvo casi un año sin producción, aunado a los incendios en Los Ángeles, y el cierre de estudios de animación y post producción a nivel mundial, han hecho que la recuperación sea larga y complicada. Mientras que la moda de apostar por IAs generativas empieza a pasar, el decidir en invertir en la estructura que permite producción continua a nivel internacional es algo más racional, aunque su impacto sea a mediano o largo plazo. La cinta es conocida, y los malos comentarios de críticos o mexicanos son diluidos por la pauta mediática que han comprado, desde con figuras públicas, pasando por personas que no pueden hablar mal de la cinta (recordemos que eso es una de las viejas reglas del juego), o incluso con la pauta promocional para medios especializados y votantes de la academia, en donde en su momento, se notaba que invirtieron hasta 4 veces más que otras cintas, como lo reporté en X.Algo que tiene en su contra este intento de Netflix por obtener premios, es que ellos no son vistos como el pequeño competidor, como pasó con Miramax. Ellos son la empresa disruptora que hizo que los salarios e ingresos en el cine se redujeran, afectando a la industria, y ahora buscan legitimarse con estatuillas. Varios talentos se han alejado de ofertas de este estudio con tal de tener presencia en salas de cine para apoyar a la industria y la exhibición. Por otro lado, hay cintas que deberían tener mejor presencia, como Conclave (posible ganadora por ser la menos ofensiva), Anora o el Brutalista (las cuales han mostrado malos manejos de promoción por parte de A24 y Neon, y son sucesores espirituales de la Miramax de los 90s), pero que no han logrado construir esa narrativa que, de momento, Netflix tiene a su favor.Lo importante no es que tu película sea la mejor, sino que la gente crea que lo es. Y si además manda un mensaje en favor de la política del momento, como pasó con The Green Book, la cual ganó sin mérito suficiente, incrementas tus probabilidades de premios, aunque tu cinta pase al olvido al año siguiente. Eso es algo que favorecen los liberales hollywoodenses más por encima de lo que deberían reconocer con las estatuillas.Y con eso terminamos esta entrega.
