[School of Everything Else 2022] A long-awaited visit to the first of Disney's new Star Wars TV shows. Weirdly we haven't had that many requests to talk Mando, but with Obi Wan launching this week and in the wake of the turbulent response to The Book of Boba we decided to journey back to the first and delve into what it did extremely well. We divided the eight episodes into three movies, loosely paralleling Sergei Leone's Dollars Trilogy with A Fistful of Beskar, For a Few Credits More and my personal favourite... The Good, The Bad and The Ugnaught. With us are two people who had literally never seen an episode of Mando before signing up for guest duty, so we get their fresh perspective without spoiling what comes later. Next week we begin the 'Rage Cage Season' as we explore the very brief period in the late 90s when Nicholas Cage was the hottest new high octane action star around! Three shows over three weeks as he gets madder and madder, The Rock, Con Air and FACE/OFF. I have spoken. A little Ugnaught told us it was time once again to switch formats, this time to television. We tried pushing back, we tried stalling, but he had spoken. And so, bounty pucks in hand, we begin with season one of the Disney Plus flagship series, spanning the first three chapters The Mandalorian, The Child, and The Sin. Since then her work has gone into hyper-drive thanks to two instantly iconic roles on "The Mandalorian"... Kuiil, the wise Ugnaught, and the endearing Frog Lady. A lot has changed for Misty Rosas. RECORDED JANUARY 14, 2020Relationships between fathers and their children in Star Wars have typically been portrayed as contentious and dysfunctional, with one party usually trying to kill the other. Exceptions are there, but have never been part of the storylines. That all changed with the debut of The Mandalorian. In today's episode of the podcast, Ryan looks at what we can learn about being a dad from The Mandalorian's titular character, and, of course, an industrious Ugnaught.WEBSITE: http://jumptolightspeed.podbean.comE-MAIL: jumptolightspeedpod@gmail.comTWITTER: @Jump2Lightspeed (podcast) or @Ry_Too_D2 (me) --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jump-to-lightspeed/message
Episode 7 reunites Mando with a lot of the characters we've met in earlier episodes. Now you know why the character building episodes were thrown into the season. It starts with a message from Greef Karga that he wants Mando's help to get rid of the Imperial presence on his planet. Ever since Mando took off with Little Yodes, the former Empire has been coming there in large numbers. That is making it difficult for the Bounty Hunters Guild to do business. If he helps get rid of the former Imperials, Greef will clear his name so he doesn't have to keep running. Mando is pretty sure it's a trap, but he doesn't really have many options. His first stop is to enlist the help of Cara Dune. Cara is not too hyped to help until she learns it is against the former Empire. Next they talk to Kuill. That's when they find out the Ugnaught picked up the IG-11 droid that Mando blasted in episode 1. The IG-11 droid was re-programmed to serve and protect rather than hunt and destroy. Mando meets up with Greef and his crew outside the city. They camp overnight before heading into the city to trick the Imperial client and kill him. During the night they are attacked by some flying creatures that end up poisoning Greef. Little Yodes is able to Force-heal him. In the morning they proceed to the city. Once at the city limits, Greef spins around and shoots the two bounty hunters he brought with him. He lets Mando know the original plan was to jump him there and take his body and Little Yodes to the Imperial client. He had a change of heart when Little Yodes saved his life. So, new plan is to bring Mando in cuffed with the little child carrier empty. Kuill is secretly sent back to the Razorcrest with Little Yodes. Once they get in front of the client, Mando is to shoot him. Then they hope the mercenaries will all leave since their paycheck has been killed. The plan might have worked if not for another Imperial bad guy showing up The client receives a call from Moff Gideon. He lets him know he is there for Little Yodes. His Death Troopers fill the place with laser fire killing the client and his Stormtroopers. When Mando peeks outside he sees the Death Troopers and a bunch of personnel carriers delivering more troops. Then you see and hear the TIE Fighter. The coolest TIE Fighter I've ever seen lands and Moff Gideon gets out. Mando breaks radio silence and tells Kuill to get back to the ship quickly and take off without them. Unfortunately that message was intercepted and a coupla biker scouts cut him down within eyesight of the Razorcrest. They scoop up Little Yodes and head back to the city. The episode ends with Mando, Greef, and Cara pinned down in the building. Kuill is presumably dead and we don't know what the re-programmed IG-11 is up to. There is much despair for Mando right now. There is one episode left in season one. We can't wait to see how they get out of this predicament and leave us wanting more in season 2. Have you watched all the episodes yet? What did you think about the this fourth episode? Did we miss any Easter eggs? Let us know in the comments. We have a Google Voice number where you can call and leave us your thoughts. Steph Sabraw (@stephsabraw), Ryan Nilsen (@rynilsen), Xia Anderson (@xia_land) & Christian Bladt (@cristianDMZ) break down “The Reckoning”. Episode Synopsis below (spoilers) The Mandalorian receives a message from Greef Karga. Karga's town has been overrun by Imperial troops led by the Client, who is desperate to recover the Child. Karga proposes that the Mandalorian use the Child as bait in order to kill the Client and free the town. In return, Karga will square things with the Guild, which would allow the Mandalorian and the Child to live in peace. Sensing a trap, the Mandalorian recruits Cara Dune and Kuiil the Ugnaught to assist him. Kuill has also rebuilt and reprogrammed IG-11, and the group journeys to Nevarro. Upon arrival they meet Karga and his associates, but en route to the town are attacked by Mynocks. Karga is injured but the Child uses the force to heal his wound. In return, Karga shoots his associates and explains his original plan to kill the Mandalorian and take the Child to the Client. The group formulates a new plan: Karga will pretend that Dune captured the Mandalorian, and all three will enter the town to meet the Client. Meanwhile, Kuiil will return the Child to the ship. During the meeting, the Client receives a call from Moff Gideon, whose troops surround the building and open fire, killing the Client. Gideon arrives and boasts that the Child will soon be in his possession. In the desert outside town, scout troopers track and kill Kuiil and kidnap the Child. In today's episode, we discuss the possibility of the Netflix Marvel characters getting moved, rightfully, into the MCU. Should actual martial artists play TV martial artists? We discuss our opinions and the history of Marvel martial artists. And, in the main event, Jon Favreau's entrance into a "Galaxy far, far away, with The Mandolarian! Nick Nolte as an Ugnaught? On the first episode of the all-new side show, The Mandalorian Half-Hour, the guys are chatting about the kick-off of the new Star Wars show, The Mandalorian! How bad ass was Herzog here? How come the Mandalorian doesn't have a sick codpiece? And how about Nick Nolte as that Ugnaught?! PLUS: Eric's dream of seeing a bounty hunter droid in action finally comes to pass! The first episode of The Mandalorian Half-Hour is being distributed here on the main feed so everyone can get a taste. Episode 2 of the Mandalorian picked right up from where the first episode ended. The bounty must be in high demand as a group of mercenaries try to get the target from the Mandalorian. Not everyone wants the bounty alive. IG-11 had instructions to kill the target and the mercenaries from this episode were trying to take out the target as well. In true Mandalorian fashion, he disperses all the attackers. After a quick patch job on himself and his armor, he proceeds to his ship, the Razorcrest. Once he rises over the last hill he notices a clan of Jawas stripping his ship of any sell-able parts. A kerfuffle ensues as he tries to stop the Jawas and get his parts back. He quickly finds the Jawas Sandcrawler is like a tank and is unable to get inside. He returns to our Ugnaught friend from the first episode who helps him negotiate a barter with the Jawas for the return of his parts. They come to an agreement that the Jawas will return the parts if the Mandalorian gets them a particular egg. The problem is the big hairy rhino-like creature doesn't want to give it up. Long story short, the Mandalorian gets the egg after being beat up pretty bad. We also learn the little Yoda baby has some pretty strong force powers. The Mando gets his parts back, rebuilds the ship with the Ugnaughts help, and leaves the planet... end scene. This episode was a bit shorter than the first (39 minutes versus 30 minutes). I for one am okay with this. I would rather have a solid 30 minute episode than an hour long episode with useless filler that detracts from the story. Have you watched both episodes yet? Did you like the second episode as much as the first. Did we miss any Easter eggs? Let us know in the comments. We have a Google Voice number where you can call and leave us your thoughts. Disney Plus launched November 12th on the back of their exclusive Star Wars based show "The Mandalorian". With about 10 million subscribers in the first day, I would say it was a good move. This review is chock full of spoilers. If you haven't watched the episode yet, do that first. Then come back here and fanboy out with us. The first episode has lots of references to the other Star Wars properties. It also has some big name cameos. Pedro Pascal plays the title character. At least we think that is him. He never removes his helmet. There is even a little joke about it in the episode. Carl Weathers portrays a bounty guild admin. He collects the targets from bounty hunters and pays them for their haul. Nick Nolte lent his voice to an Ugnaught that helps the Mandalorian out. Werner Herzog plays someone with a special high price bounty. Taika Waititi gives a great voice performance as IG-11, the bounty hunting droid. There are lots more big names in future episodes. This first episode really captured the feel of the original trilogy while also developing a new seedy underworld to the Star Wars Universe. The movies have only shown us the big heroes and villains. The Mandalorian is introducing us to all the important players on the fringe of the overarching Star Wars story. We can't wait for the second episode to be available for streaming so we can geek out some more. Have you watched the first episode yet? Do you agree with us that it is the shot in the arm that Star Wars needs right now? Let us know in the comments. We have a Google Voice number where you can call and leave us your thoughts. (Adam Johnston previously had a soundcast called Sup Dude that he co-hosted with Nathan Taylor, which ran for 5 years, and whose end was announced just over a year ago, via Twitter, on May 19th, 2017.) His new Pretending With Dice has just began a new cycle of RPG goodness. Allow me to elucidate. Our clip is from Epi25, comprising an adventure entitled "Yavin Exodus". In the wake of their successful attack on the Death Star, the Rebel Alliance must evacuate their headquarters on the moon of Yavin IV, before Imperial reinforcements arrive. Alderaanian ex-smuggler Klyne is assigned to the flight crew of the freighter 'Close Encounter'. Kortez finds himself flying patrol with a talkative Sullustan, who tries his patience, and meanwhile, on Nubia, Ugnaught droid expert Thnock carries out a daring heist on an Imperial droid factory. Thrilling stuff! Unladylike What's going on in this soundcast? Hosts Cristen Conger and Caroline Ervin tackle questions through their trademark obsessive research, stories from rule-breakin' ladies and a solid dose of delightful feminist rage. This clip is from thier "How to Buy a Gun" episode, where they explore the fact that women overwhelmingly buy guns for self-defense, but statistics show guns escalate violence across the board. Cristen and Caroline talk with two firearms fans to find out how much that feeling of safety is worth — and what's at the root of women's fear. R U Talkin' R.E.M. RE: ME?Director Lance Bangs joins hosts Adam Scott and Scott Aukerman to discuss R.E.M.'s sixth studio album "Green". They get into talk about R.E.M.'s partial reunion in Portland, when Lance first heard of the band, and how Lance began to know the band and start collaborating with them. Plus, Scott and Scott tell us a little bit more about themselves on an episode of "Talkin' 'Bout Me." Food To Watch Films By Join hosts Johnny, Adam, and Pablo on their experiential voyage through the combination of food and films. (As it says on iTunes: "DISCLAIMER: Some foods suggested may not be safe for human consumption, or even legal for that matter. You have been warned...") IN their reality, the world was wiped out at the beginning of the year, apparently, and this clip comes from a "found footage-style episode" where the boys take us their their review of some films of 2018 that were - to them - never released. Movies in clude 'The Commuter', 'Mary Poppins Returns', and 'Day of the Dead: Bloodline'. Look, I don't explain the clips, I just play 'em. The Goon CastA show featuring New York-based standup comics from around the city, The Goon Cast is hosted by Billy, Joe, and Jay Mac. They're joined in the episode we clipped by comic Jesse Eigner, and they cover a lot of topics - from Harry Potter and Jesse's new allergy, to New York politics and America's draft picks. Our snippet touches on just a fraction of it all. And just like that, the show is done. I hope you leave this listening experience with at least one new idea of where to listen next when you wish to get your audio fix. I'm off to rustle up some more clips from soundcasts Ive recently heard of, soundcasts Ive known of for a while, and soundcasts I have yet to discover. Maybe even something that's been featured before because...why not? I'd greatly appreciate it if you might visit www.succotashshow.com or even www.tysonsaner.com if you've any interest in any of the other things I've created during this life. And, of course, I'd like to thank you for being here and if you have any interest in the continuation of this free soundcast I would most gratefully and gently urge you to please pass the Succotash. — Tyson Saner

Our guildie of the month is officially non other than Syreyne, the official herder of cats and mistress of the Craft Faire. Sy, being the great person that she is, originally declined the honor, since the craft faire is a huge collaboration, but was sweetly informed by Jehdai that there is no back plan, and she is the guildie of the month. Read Jehdai's interview with Syreyne on the guild website www.aie-giuld.org. And, to keep the “boss” happy, here is the list of the CO-guildies of the month, the craft faire crew: Nevermore, Ugnaught, Amijade, Liranei, Elcarth, Velazarius, Zaalginar, Sedaar, Tynchal, Prinadora, Anwyl, Maguswynds, Muagramar, Blessedchild, Alachaas, Saisri, Medicakes, Aerwen, Cocoamoo, Twikk, Tetsemi, Mkallah, Shojobeat, Allanya, Locke, Elhuntero, Vikkela, Mercyn, Sqweazle, Brithael, Lirianna, Grimcow, Chillreis, and Frodo.
