Our series with Dr. Jasmine Dean continues. Dr. Dean and I continue to raise awareness in regards to PTSD, Mental Health and the depth of conversation that is needed to promote personal growth. On this episode we talk about Subjective Units Of Distress and how this can be an important way to measure where your stress is at daily. Tracking our stress is actually incredibly important as it allows us to develop a plan to decrease our overall levels and promote better health. We also discuss the impact that trauma and medication have on our sex life! Why this happens and how the body can struggle at times to connect during intimate moments. First Responders are at a higher risk of having a negatively impacted sex life as a result of experienced trauma. In addition we talk about how a Us VS Them theme can arise in first responder work and how that contributes to driving us away from connection with others. Dr. Dean does an excellent job in painting a picture about the reality of how to determine when you know you've found a good therapist. Join us as the conversation continues!

It’s easy to get caught up in the “us versus them” mentality. Our brains naturally like to categorize people and then bond with those who are “on our team” while alienating those who are not. This can happen within an organization “marketing vs sales” or by identity “men vs other gender identities” or geography “London HQ vs remote team members” and many other factors. When cultural divides separate colleagues, it inhibits effective communication and collaboration. Instead, we need to find ways to bring people together that honors our cultural differences while building bridges. Laura Kriska is the author of The Business of WE and a leading cross-cultural consultant with more than thirty years of experience bridging gaps in diverse workplaces. She has worked with Fortune 500 companies on four continents helping thousands of professionals build trust across Us versus Them differences based on nationality, ethnicity, race, religion, age or any factor of identity. Her WE-building framework provides practical and actionable insights for creating a more inclusive and productive world. Laura and I talk about how to understand cultural differences from norms and behaviors, to mindsets, and how to bring people together across the ‘us vs them’ divide. The current state of social media and journalism is in shambles. Truth is secondary to scandal. Even our entertainment is littered with a US VS THEM mentality. I spoke with social science specialist Aydin Paladin about these matters, because I'm sure as hell not knowledgeable about all this to speak intelligently in regards to these topics. The Social Dilemma Within The Social Dilemma and Exploiting Children to Stop Exploiting Children: Today I ramble on about Netflix, Cuties, The Social Dilemma, Netflix Addiction, Social Media Addiction, Society and Human Trafficking. My intention is for you to walk away with clarity, hope, and personal responsibility. The answer to the Us Vs Them narrative is to remember not to be demeaning or violent towards one another and focus on leaving this world a better place than what we left it. At the first part of this podcast I rant about Cuties and Netflix Addiction. Around the 40 minute mark I start talking about the Social Dilemma and the agenda I feel that is behind the film... I speak on both the things I agree with and the solution of the film I disagree with. Also somewhere during the Social Dilemma portion I take a giant crap on The Rise Of Skywalker.. because that movie was an utter disappointment. So have fun!!! You're different, right? I know. It's true; you are. But here's the deal. What does that really even mean? A lot of designers early on, feel the difference between the rest of society and themselves. But they take that difference and, under a competitive mindset, form an identity that is separate and in opposition to the rest of the society around them. It becomes Us Vs THEM, in all aspects of our lives including our visions, which ultimately results in isolation and the operation of us as the "superstars" in our businesses. This state of being ultimately reveals itself as a trap and the ultimate demise of the artists, unless he or she can discover amongst the pandemonium the next paradigm. This episode reveals exactly what the answer is for those of us that are stuck in the mud with the processes of their mass movement! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Read This If You're Ready To Push Your Ideas Into The World... Visualize this— Your new sales memoir is complete...(and, man, the design is beautiful) Your marketing campaign has finally run its course... Your launch happened...yesterday, as a matter of a fact And suddenly...the world understands you. Your people are gathering... The message you’ve been carrying on your shoulders, that we both know can truly change lives; people finally get it. They’re bonding under your mantras and living in full, finally, and they have you to thank. Would that be the moment you feel most complete? Imagine the sweeping change you’ve envisioned for the world, since your earliest years, coming about, one person at a time... The same way Napoleon Hill might’ve felt when Think & Grow Rich made millionaires... The same way Tony Robbins must’ve felt after writing and releasing Awaken the Giant Within to an accepting world that would go on to immortalize him forever... How Russell Brunson must’ve felt when Dotcom Secrets took the world by storm, creating “funnel hackers” and resulting in a billion dollar company... That very same emotion experienced by anyone whose ever decided to finally pull the trigger and create a platform to harbor the ideas they’ve valued all of their lives... How would that feel? Knowing that people all over the world are staying up late at night— they can’t sleep They’re reading through a collection of your thoughts and they’re becoming more and more ecstatic as each moment introduces to them a new secret of life that they had never before considered... How would that feel? If you’re being honest, you probably answered: “Great. It’s sound pretty damn good...” ...But deep down you realize, as good as that sounds, that pain of actually getting there might still be far greater than the rewards... And I agree. As a person that LIKES and excels at writing, I have to admit that writing actually kinda sucks And that’s on its own— The idea of... ...sitting down and formatting hundreds of pages and stories in my head in a way that actually makes sense... ...writing every day for a year or more... ...and doing all that as a person that possibly isn’t too great at writing at all... Yeah, no. Not happening. Man, I remember even a few weeks back working on a sales memoir for Memoir Launch actually... I had the title down...and that’s about it... And I worked on it for about 5 weeks... Most of which was spent just thinking about the amount of time it’d take for me to actually get it all done... That and how much I’d really even get out of writing it... And in the rare moments, I struggled to find a cohesive progression to the random soup of insanely good ideas that my sales memoir would consist of... Then, with a headache, I just came back to reality and accepted the fact that I wasn’t about to sit down and spend a whole year of my life writing... I mean, wholeheartedly, I can say that the thing that would probably get this business (and the IDEA behind it all) out to people the fastest and in the most impactful way would be a sales memoir... (As we’ve seen historically with other sales memoirs such as Mein Kampf, Communist Manifesto, The Bible and the aforementioned others) But, again; yeah, but nah, right? Writing is just a little too time consuming and complex of a beast at times to be a sensible option in a busy life... But what other options are as effective? Naturally, the first alternative that anyone in that situation would think of is what? A ghostwriter, right? I’d say so. But, you see, as an actual working (ex) ghostwriter I’ll be the first to admit that paying for a ghostwriter is actually a pretty terrible idea You pay for a ghostwriter with the intention of getting a superior writer to translate your ideas into words with some haste But guess what? More often than not, it just ends up like a game of telephone That’s why I stopped ghostwriting actually... It became increasingly obvious that there was no way to actually capture the voice and essence of an author without it being tainted by my own Though people might accept the work I’d given, there was always an air of dissatisfaction on both ends The work was always beautiful, but it just wasn’t them I’d even paid for a ghostwriter a few times before myself in the past Back then, I was just looking for any shortcut to putting out what I felt was closest to my heart But each and every time I found myself a lot further away from the finish line So many issues, I can’t even begin to list them all, but for starters here’s a brief overview of pains you’ll experience when using a ghostwriter: - Price point. This is an obvious one. I get $25,000 is what the service is worth, but $25,000 grand for inaccurate work that I’ll just throw out upon receiving is senseless. - Some of the writers just vanished with my work or was a bit wonky with deadlines and responses-- it’s always a pain to work for prolonged periods with ideas so sensitive. - It takes a lot longer to tell someone your story and have them write it then to just write it yourself, oddly enough. - A great number of ghostwriters just outsourced to other writers in far off countries - And 100% of ghostwriters have failed to give me 100% of myself in the work Which, to that last point, is fair enough. Only we can ever truly know 100% of ourselves. And that’s just a fact of life. So, taking all of this into consideration. What I’m here to tell you is that, using traditional methods, your sales memoir will never see the light of day... But lucky for you, traditional is no longer the only way to go I decided to quit ghostwriting, drop all my clients, and do something about it... The end result? Memoir Launch. And what does Memoir Launch do? In a broad overview, what it does is: It gets your sales memoir outside of your head and onto the page... 100% in your own voice... In as little as seven days... WITHOUT the use of ghostwriters (or even ever having to write yourself) How? Well, I’d love to explain, but it’d take more than another few paragraphs And so, if you’re interesting in knowing how, I’ll leave a link at the bottom of this message to a little explainer video But before we go there, I want to say this: There isn’t anything like this in existence... It’s a completely brand new way of closing the gap between our ideas and texts on paper... And it’s the first “writing”process that doesn’t involve actually writing or human intervention... But it’s still in beta... And so, it’s a little experimental... And so, due to that factor, the beta group of people who’ll get to try out this kind of secretive process, will be initially very small and very exclusive... Remember, there’s no other company on the face of the planet using this method... In fact, depending on when you’re reading this message, we may not even have launched ourselves yet... But still, if you’re interested in having your sales memoir written AND launched using this new method click here: https://dallasprater.wixsite.com/memoirlaunchP.s And no, this isn’t just another stupid “secret” method that I’ll “teach” you or anything like that. The method isn’t even the secret. The secret is the technology that we’ve developed that no one else in the world yet has, that enables a whole new way of “writing”...
We have allowed our politicians and religious leaders to use our differences to divide us for far too long. We can no longer afford to let them implant the fear of the other into our minds, and then exploit that fear to control us.

This week on episode 4 of the first season of GutsXGritXGrind, the This is Female Powerlifting podcast, we summon the spirit of the festive season to bring you a Santa hat full of powerlifting-related, rant-invoking topics. Take four dirtbag powerlifters, two angel powerlifters (to balance it out) and a five minute timer that signals when it's time for whiskey shots and you have the worst thing we've ever done. The best thing we've ever done? Sorry mum. Sorry everyone. 3:07 Topic 1: STUPID "US VS THEM" POWERLIFTING DISPUTES. We don't care what fed you lift in, but posting dumb memes and whining about perceived slights against you because of the fed you lift with is ridiculous. Why is our sport so fragmented? 4:51 More feds, more records. Default gold for everyone! 5:12 We explain what a sub-master is. Sort of. Tess asserts dominance. 6:15 We call out the IPF. BOOM! 9:05 Topic 2: EARNING YOUR OPINION CARD. What is the magic point that we're allowed to have an opinion on something? Do we need a degree? Time in the sport? A certain Wilks? 9:40 Have you considered someone might be smarter than you? 10:30 Darron hates people. (But especially those who don't recognize other people expertise) 13:05 Bonus time to discuss the Lifting Concern Police. Eff you, windbags! 15:10 Topic 3: IS YOUR PR A PR? If you have added the caveat "no, he didn't touch the bar I swear" to your PR, you probably didn't do it alone. Is your competition lift PR really a PR when it's a mile high, or your butt came off the bench? Are we just too judgemental? 16:40 Be honest with yourself. If your PR isn't sport specific, it's irrelevant to your sport. 17:22 Darron wants to see your butt! Show us your butt! 19:02 Gaïa ruins Christmas 19:55 Topic 4: CHEER UP, GYM EEYORES. Please, be happy about something you've done, even just once. For me. For you. For everyone. 20:19 Truth bomb: you might not PR during every single training cycle 20:54 Default gold. It's not Tess' fault that no other fat old ladies have shown up. 24:08 "Let's get fucking profound now here, bitches" 26:00 Topic 5: SO YOU'RE INJURED. STOP TALKING ABOUT IT AND START DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT. You've posted 800 times about your injury/"injury". You've posted 0 times about what you are doing to fix it. This leads us to believe you are doing nothing. When is an injury a legitimate injury and when is it an excuse? 27:40 That time Tess tore her achilles and Darron heard it snap. 29:00 Go see a professional! Quit trying to fix it yourself. 29:15 We all love dry needling. 30:28 Tess and Darron get closer. "You're the gayest woman that loves my husband." 31:35 Topic 6: POWERLIFTING OR FITSPO. Let's be real here. Is that account full of semi-nudes with inspirational captions about powerlifting? Or is it soft core fitspo porn? 31:55 "It is not about what you look like. Lift the thing. That is all." 33:40 We really can't emphasize enough how much we like butts. Or at least we don't think we can. Because we can't stop talking about it. 35:15 Your ab selfie isn't powerlifting. Your cleavage selfie isn't powerlifting. Your traps selfie isn't powerlifting. They're just cool selfies. 36:28 Shout out to @kittycatlifting's awesome butt! 37:09 Topic 7: GYM PDA: stop cuddling on the ER rack, we all know you're in loooooove. What do we think about couples cuddling at the gym? 37:23 Beans advocates a return to Victorian-era modesty at the gym. 38:40 Darron and Tess re-enact some gym PDA. You'll want to check out the YouTube version of our podcast to get the full impact. 39:45 "JUST SCISSOR ALREADY!" 41:25 Topic 8: BABY'S FIRST WATER CUT: No one cares that you were the best at weigh-ins - and other ways people get distracted when it comes to meet prep. 42:02: Rhaea Stinn said it best with "live at your weight." That was Rhaea, right? RHAEA? RHAEA CAN YOU HEAR US? 45:20 Imagine how powerful you could be if you were bigger! 46:48 Topic 9: TOO LONG, DIDN'T WATCH. We sit through 45 seconds of you wriggling around on the bench for 2 seconds of a 85% single. Lingering over your set-up while glossing over your lifts and other training video pet peeves. 47:54 Please stop trying to make set-up gains. 49:05 We discuss Beans' squat set up. "But you're cute as pie when you stomp your feet." "I'M ANGRY. I'M NOT CUTE. LISTEN TO THE SOUND OF MY HOOVES" 50:33 Use the trim function. You know it's there. Use it. 51:53 Topic 10: PROGRAM JUMPERS - and their complaints that "nothing is working". What are the signs someone is sabotaging themselves? 56:00 If you lie to your coach about what you're doing, you're sabotaging yourself. Follow the program honestly, keep honest records. 57:40 "You can't control the speed of the gain train." 58:55 Is part of being a powerlifter feeling like a sack of shit the majority of the time? We sure seem to think so. 1:00:22 Topic 11: I HAVE A BUBBLE, DON'T VIOLATE MY BUBBLE. What are some of the common ways people invade your space at the gym? 1:00:53 Drunk Beans tells a story about a time some dude invaded her space at the gym. 1:04:20 Want to talk to someone? Pick your moment. Maybe don't hit on Vanessa when she's in the MIDDLE of a squat. 1:05:27 VERBAL WARNING: We do yet another shot and things *really* begin to deteriorate. Beans does two shots for good measure. Gaïa forgets the F in TIFPL. We all let loose with a stream of creative curse words. Then, Darron tries to get us back on track. 1:07:50 Topic 12: TERRIBLE SPOTTERS - also UNSOLICITED SPOTTERS: if your presence makes us more nervous than no spotter at all, please go away. Also, please stop using spotting as an excuse to grab boobs. You're not fooling anyone. How to spot an incompetent spotter and how to tell him or her to buzz off. 1:09:15 We discuss with great gravitas the difference between getting grabbed on the boob and being spotted properly around the midsection. 1:10:08 We reflect on Gaïa's grinding ability. Darron desperately tries to make the conversation make sense again. She fails. 1:11:42 A fun game for you to play would be to take a shot every time one of us says "Ok, but seriously..." or some variation thereof. 1:14:18 Darron tries to wrap it up. We do one last shot. Thank you for joining us! Please accept our sincere apologies and send your complaints to the TIFPL complaints department, Jon at Evolve Strength.
