In 1982, Hiroshi Sato released the album Awakening; a synth-heavy, mostly solo record featuring Canadian-born singer Wendy Matthews. He had a few solo records out by then, but they didn't really pay the bills. He was a working studio musician, laying down piano/keyboard tracks for other artists. He got by, but there was something missing. Thanks partly to the introduction of the LinnDrum, the first commercially available drum machine, he found inspiration to cut another record. From their beginnings holding warehouse parties in Sydney's inner city to their string of chart hits in the late '80s and early '90s, Rockmelons always stood out from the rest of the Australian music scene by championing genres that few others did — and taking them mainstream. She's called Australia home for four decades and become one of this country's most beloved singer/songwriters, with three wins for Best Female Artist at the ARIA Awards in the '90s. What an album this week. Led Zeppelin's first! I hate to admit I was there when it was released! That's how old I am! Bought it straight away and it was a revelation. There was nothing quite like it at that time. A combination of mind-blowing electric blues, heavy rock, and psychedelia. One of the most innovative and influential rock groups, ever! Birdsville is about as outback as it gets, so it might not seem the natural place to stage a music festival. However it’s the natural setting that has seen the annual Big Red Bash grow from almost nothing five years ago to a festival that sold out this year attracting 9,000 fans to the edge of the Simpson Desert. It’s expected to sell out again in 2020 following the announcement of next year’s lineup. Among those who’ll play in the shadow of a 40 metre high sand dune are names including Paul Kelly, Tim Finn, John Williamson, Ian Moss and Wendy Matthews.   Amanda describes her new music as loungey electronic pop, combining old fashioned melodies with post-modern sounds. Easton's third commercial release, the new 5-song EP 'Out of the Blue' was recorded in various studios in Sydney's Inner West by UK Music Producer Matt Sladen and was wholly financed by crowdfunding through Pozible.com. Amanda has released two self-penned albums before this, with two singles from her self-titled debut earning Top 10 positions in the Australian independent (AIR) music charts. Her music videos and live performances have graced television screens on The Kerri-Anne Show, Bert Newton, Denis Drysdale Show as well as ‘V’ and ‘MTV’ and recently the Morning show. She’s performed for the who’s who of Australian corporations and twice at the ARIA awards. She’s appeared onstage as backing vocalist for some of our best loved musical legends including Glenn Shorrock, Powderfinger, Marcia Hines, James Reyne and Vanessa Amarosi and has toured exensively with multi-platinum artists Richard Clapton and Wendy Matthews. Amanda continues to perform in venues around Sydney including regular appearances at The Basement at Circular Quay as well as the Taronga Zoo Twilight Series. Over 10 years ago, singer Wendy Matthews quit Bondi for the NSW mid-north coast. On four-hectare mountain-top property near Coffs Harbour, she and some mates - including actor Russell Crowe - built a tepee using heavy, waterproof canvas. The Canadian-born singer of '90s hits The Day You Went Away and I Don't Wanna Be with Nobody but You would often leave Sydney about 5pm on a Friday and by midnight would be lying in her double bed with the roof flap open, gazing at the trees and stars.
