Sometimes it's the variations that salvage the core design. The Geara Zulu is, frankly, a pretty uninspired attempt to work more WWI and WWII German military design into the already pretty German Geara Doga. Frankly, I side-eye anyone who looks at Zeon designs and decides there's not enough stroßtruppen in them. We could actually use LESS Nazi and Prussian imagery, thanks. But here we are. And at least some of the Guards customs are cool. If you want to find us on Twitter, Dylan is @lowpolyrobot and Six is @sixdettmar. Join us at The Commonwealth Club for a conversation with CNN's John Avlon about Abraham Lincoln's plan to secure a just and lasting peace after the Civil War. The implementation of Lincoln's vision was cut short by his assassin, but Lincoln's hopes still inspired future American presidents—and Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, and Martin Luther King, Jr. General Lucius Clay, the architect of the post-WWII German occupation, explained that his decisions were guided by thinking what “kind of occupation would the South have had if Abraham Lincoln had lived.” As the tide of the Civil War finally turned in the spring of 1865, Abraham Lincoln visited the troops on the front lines, seeing combat up close, meeting liberated slaves, and comforting wounded soldiers, both Union and Confederate. The power of Lincoln's personal example was enhanced by his use of humor, logic and scripture to depolarize bitter debates. Balancing moral courage with moderation, Lincoln believed that decency could be the most practical form of politics, but he also understood that people are more inclined to listen to reason when it is presented from a position of strength. Ulysses S. Grant's famously generous terms of surrender to General Robert E. Lee at Appomattox that April were a direct expression of Lincoln's belief that a soft peace should follow a hard war. Avlon shows how Lincoln's character informed his commitment to unconditional surrender followed by a magnanimous peace. Even during the Civil War, when he was surrounded by reactionaries and radicals, Lincoln refused to back down from his belief that there is more that unites us than divides us. But he also understood that peace needs to be waged with as much intensity as war—an understanding that Avlon says remains relevant today, for both our domestic and our foreign policies. The Chris Voss Show Podcast - Lincoln and the Fight for Peace by John Avlon A groundbreaking, revelatory history of Abraham Lincoln's plan to secure a just and lasting peace after the Civil War—a vision that inspired future presidents as well as the world's most famous peacemakers, including Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, and Martin Luther King, Jr. It is a story of war and peace, race and reconciliation. As the tide of the Civil War turned in the spring of 1865, Abraham Lincoln took a dangerous two-week trip to visit the troops on the front lines accompanied by his young son, seeing combat up close, meeting liberated slaves in the ruins of Richmond, and comforting wounded Union and Confederate soldiers. The power of Lincoln's personal example in the closing days of the war offers a portrait of a peacemaker. He did not demonize people he disagreed with. He used humor, logic, and scripture to depolarize bitter debates. Balancing moral courage with moderation, Lincoln believed that decency could be the most practical form of politics, but he understood that people were more inclined to listen to reason when greeted from a position of strength. Ulysses S. Grant's famously generous terms of surrender to General Robert E. Lee at Appomattox that April were a direct expression of the president's belief that a soft peace should follow a hard war. While his assassination sent the country careening off course, Lincoln's vision would be vindicated long after his death, inspiring future generations in their own quests to secure a just and lasting peace. As US General Lucius Clay, architect of the post-WWII German occupation, said when asked what guided his decisions: “I tried to think of the kind of occupation the South would have had if Abraham Lincoln had lived.” Lincoln and the Fight for Peace reveals how Lincoln's character informed his commitment to unconditional surrender followed by a magnanimous peace. Even during the Civil War, surrounded by reactionaries and radicals, he refused to back down from his belief that there is more that unites us than divides us. But he also understood that peace needs to be waged with as much intensity as war. Lincoln's plan to win the peace is his unfinished symphony, but in its existing notes, we can find an anthem that can begin to bridge our divisions today.

Ryan Busse is a former firearms executive who helped build one of the world's most iconic gun companies, and was nominated multiple times by industry colleagues for the prestigious Shooting Industry Person of The Year Award. Busse is an environmental advocate who served in many leadership roles for conservation organizations, including as an advisor for the United States Senate Sportsmen's Caucus and the Biden Presidential Campaign. He remains a proud outdoorsman, gun owner, father, and resident of Montana. About the book.... A long-time former executive at one of the country's top gun manufacturers reveals how his industry radicalized a large swathe of America, and explains how it must change before we can reduce gun violence and heal as a nation. Ryan Busse has traveled a long, circuitous path along the American gun journey. As an avid hunter, outdoorsman, and conservationist–all things that the firearms industry was built on–he rose to the highest ranks of the rapidly growing, multibillion-dollar firearms industry. But replacing self-imposed decency with rampant fear-mongering, racism, hardline conservative politics, massive profits from semi-automatic weapons sales, and McCarthyesque policing have driven Busse to do something few other gun executives have done: he's ending his 30-year career in the industry to tell its secrets. He watched the industry change from its smaller, less corporate and far-less-powerful form to the partisan, power-hungry entity it is today. He thought he could go up against the power of the industry from within, and over the years had made small inroads toward sensible gun ownership and use. But that's simply not possible anymore. This book is an insider's call-out, a voice-driven tale of personal transformation, and a fast ride through wild times and colorful characters that populate a much-speculated-about, but little-known industry. It's also a story of how authoritarianism spreads in the guise of freedom, how voicing one's conscience becomes an act of treason in a culture that demands sameness and loyalty. World War II was unquestionably the greatest bloodletting in world history. Never before had so many people lost their lives in such a short period of time. Of all of the many tragedies which took place during the war, one of the largest actually took place after the war. It was the largest single migrations of people in human history, it resulted in millions of deaths, and almost no one knows about it. Troops of the Third Reich fought all over Europe, North Africa, the Atlantic Ocean and the Middle East during the Second World War. They earned a formidable reputation as being professional and proficient soldiers regardless of the reasons why they fought. Here we look at soldiers who fought under the swastika and whose combat effectiveness earned them the begrudging respect and of course fear of the enemies they faced. These are some of the deadliest German soldiers of World War Two...
During World War II, Michigan became a temporary home to 6000 German and Italian POWs. Prof. Greg Sumner tells the story of the national program to bring to the US about 425,000 POWs. Sumner is a scholar and history professor at the University of Detroit Mercy. He uncovered the forgotten story of these POWs and the farms, forests and families they impacted. At a time of homefront labor shortages, they picked fruit in Berrien County, harvested sugar beets in the Thumb, cut pulpwood in the Upper Peninsula and maintained parks and other public spaces in Detroit. The work programs were not flawless and not all of the prisoners were cooperative, but many of the men established enduring friendships with their captors. Gregory Sumner tells the story of these detainees and the ordinary Americans who embodied our highest ideals, even amid a global war. Sumner discusses this interesting story with host Jim Fausone.
During World War II, Arizona had 24 German POW camps. But one had a fascinating story, a 'Great Escape' and capture that surprised even the German POW's. Author Steve Hoza give a detailed account of the Papago POW Camp, escape tunnel, capture and the reunion after the war of the guards and POWs. Plus our Lake Havasu Staycation winner talks about his experience.

Chris Runge owns and operates Runge Karosseria and Flyer Motorwerks. Flyer Moterwerks began in a rural Minnesota barn. The very place where Chris, 25 years prior, sat in his first Porsche while it was being stored for the winter. That Porsche left an impression that he would never forget. A lifelong passion for the automobile and more specifically post WWII German design grew as Chris owned and modified several Porsche vehicles over the years. In 2011 he embarked upon a new journey, to hand hammer his own aluminum bodied car. The goal was not to build a replica but capture an era through a simple yet beautiful design. In the process Chris applied Traditional European Coachwork techniques to build the Prototype “Frankfurt Flyer” Sports Racer. FF001 has gained attention and admiration in the motoring world. Today, Chris is preparing to introduce a series of coach built auto designs based on different eras and country of origin. Chris can also provide panel replacement, repair or reskin an entire body for your vintage sports car. Chris can also design and build from scratch, your very own custom coach built automobile.
