Join your hosts Flood and Walker with special guest, author, podcaster, and filmmaker Aaron Deese for a conversation about on of the strangest mass paranormal group experiences ever documented in modern history: The Mothman sightings off 1966 and 1967. But the Mothman was just a small piece of much stranger phenomena happening in the area at the same time. Between the UFO sightings, poltergeist activity, Men in Black and other strange occurrences, it's possible that the cryptid known as Mothman was the symptom for something much stranger that was already in motion in the small West Virginian town of Point Pleasant. This is not going to be a beat by beat retelling of this story. We encourage you to read the material for yourself. Rather, this is a discussion with another enthusiast to discuss some of the more unsettling aspects of this tale of high strangeness. Send us a Text Message. In the fall of 1967, the skies over Point Pleasant West Virginia were filled with strange lights and winged creatures with hypnotic glowing red eyes. The tall, grey man with wings would come to be known as Mothman. Though sightings go back long before the Point Pleasant story, recent sightings in Chicago, Indiana, and Michigan began in 2011. Could the Mothman's presence be a portent of impending disaster? Only time will tell. This week, we have a story from a member of our Mothman Sightings Facebook group. Can anyone guess what it's about?Me and my cousin Marcos were in the Point Pleasant West Virginia area visiting family. While we were driving down Redmond ridge road at around 9:30ish at night sometime around Christmas, we passed a human-like figure as we slowed down. We looked out our rear view mirror where we saw a large figure, that was 6.5-7ft tall. As me and my cousin rolled down the window to ask if ”everything was alright” all of a sudden our reverse light caught a glimpse of large beaming eyes looking our way. My cousin told me to “floor it”out of there. We took off down the road and after going down the road a few minutes everything seemed normal. Until a few minutes later when everything had calmed down, my cousin Marcos looked to the right and noticed a large creature flying almost directly over us. We were going about 30 mph and stepped on the gas as we hit speeds of 45-50mph the creature was still following us with ease. With the windy backroads It was pretty hard to go much faster. After about 2 minutes of trying to outrun the human-like creature we got on county route 17/5. At that point there was no one behind us. I have never known about this creature until I went to visit your community. I'm not sure if I'm crazy and my eyes were seeing things but I would like to know if anyone else had experienced such things. Or if I saw the “moth man” or I was just seeing things. This was a pretty interesting story, had seen a few things online about people still seeing the creature around Point Pleasant and the TNT area, but this is the first story we've received on it. We would love to get more like it! Remember if you have a creepy story you'd like to see featured you can email us at webmaster@spookyappalchia.com. Hosted on Acast. We're sure if you are into the paranormal you've at least heard of Point Pleasant West Virginia. We decided to do this video since we've had some many stories originate from this town, and a lot of our viewers saying they wish they could see it.The Town of Point Pleasant was first settled in 1774 along the banks of the Ohio and Kanawha rivers, but wasn't officially chartered just yet. Not long after this on October 10, 1774 the Battle of Point Pleasant occurred between the Shawnee Chief Cornstalk and General Andew Lewis. In 1777, Chief Cornstalk and his son traveled to Fort Randolph to discuss peace between their tribes and the settlers, but they were captured and killed. It is believed that Chief Cornstalk laid a curse upon the land as he was slain. Then, finally, in 1804 Mason County split off from Kanawha County, and the city officially became Point Pleasant.A lot of people believe that the paranormal happenings centered around Point Pleasant happen due to the curse of Chief Cornstalk. If you've ever spent some time around Point Pleasant residents you'll notice when something goes wrong they jokingly say “there's that Chief Cornstalk Curse again” We'll mention a few of the paranormal happenings but wont go into great detail on them since we've already done stories on a good number of them, or plan to in the future. One of the earliest paranormal stories we've found are on The Mason County Ghost Lights. The Ghost Lights showed up around 1810. People report seeing what looks like a lantern bobbing up and down in a particular area.Possibly the next paranormal happenings in town could be from the Lowe Hotel. It's hard to say when the hauntings reported there started, but the hotel was opened in 1901. Guests have reported seeing apparitions, as well as seeing shadow and yearning strange sounds that can't be explained. After that would be the UFO stories that may have started in 1931 with the Phantom Blimp Crash. Then there were the Mothman sightings and a huge uptick in UFO sightings. Between 1966-1967 there were hundreds of UFO and Mothman sights in the area. For the most part this seemed to slow down when the Silver Bridge collapsed in 1967, but some folks say the UFOs and Mothman are still around. That pretty much sums up the paranormal occurrences, that aside Point Pleasant West Virginia is a fun place to visit and is a town that fully embraces their paranormal culture. There are many great places to visit, including The World's Only Mothman Museum and their sister store The Point Pleasant Trading Company. The Mothman Museum is also working to complete The Mothman themed escape room, and also starting an indoor cryptid themed mini golf course! Some other places to check out are The Tu-Endie-Wei State park where the Battle of Point Pleasant Happened, The TNT Area where most of The Mothman sightings occurred, and many of the locally owned restaurants where you can get Mothman themed foods.Source(s) vistpointpleasantwv https://visitpointpleasantwv.com/history/Appalachian Oddity http://www.appalachianoddity.org/ Hosted on Acast. This week on Legends & Spirits we'll spread our wings to take flight over Point Pleasant, West Virginia with one of the most infamous winged creatures in paranormal lore…the Mothman! Where there is a Mothman there is also UFOs, Inter-dimensional beings, MIB, and a curse on these lands that could even have something to do with it all. In this week's Macabre Mixology we're concocting our version of one of the oldest classic cocktails whose roots are very close to home for us. And in our Spooky Saloons we'll valet our UFO with the oddly grinning man outside and step through another time portal of sorts into the Blennerhassett Hotel & Lounge in Parkersburg, WV. We'll belly up for some delicious cocktails and fare before we go in search of one of its many ghostly residents. We are joined by Candice, and first time guest, Host of On Wednesdays we talk weird. It's Asherz! And we are dipping our toes directly into the paranormal world. Hitting up those cryptids. We follow them as they go to Point Pleasant West Virginia, and talk to a guy about clandestine operations. To be honest, when I heard the guy say clan... I got concerned. Then we head to Chicago where the team investigates based base jumper, or Mothman? (No, it was a bird) and they talk to a very sketch bro about his footage. Then we round it all off, bookend it really by shining lights in the woods at night, and looking for something hot. If you enjoyed this, and want more. Look up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! WHAT IS IT?! Oh, it's Mothman. This week the Mothman is flying directly from Point Pleasant West Virginia into our hearts. Enjoy.
From 1966-1967 the people of Point Pleasant West Virginia began experiencing strange unexplained events. Men in Black, strange lights in the sky, flying crafts and of course The Mothman. The Silver Bridge in point pleasant would eventually collapse resulting in tragedy. Many have speculated that these strange happenings and sightings were all signs pointing to the inevitable collapse. Over the years sightings all over the world have been reported of a winged humanoid spotted right before tragedy would strike. From 2017 to the present the Mothman has resurfaced all around Lake Michigan. The sightings were especially heavy in and around Chicago. This week previous guest Eamonn James and new crew member Nick Hoffman help us investigate all these mysterious events and connect the dots as to who or what the Mothman is and why he has resurfaced. Is this a messenger trying to warn us or something more sinister looming in the shadows of our own back yard?
This week our hosts will transport us to a truly paranormal city on the banks of the Ohio River. Join Laken and Chance as they visit the eclectic home of First Nations curses, spectral hotel staff, and possibly the most legendary of all cryptids...Mothman. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theplacesyg/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theplacesyg/support
Long before the Lake Michigan Mothman, his story was being told. In the 1960s, the Point Pleasant West Virginia was the setting for multiple horrific encounters with what was known as the “Mothman.” After a giant bridge disaster, the sightings ceased. Many assumed that somehow, the Mothman was connected to the collapse. Were the troublesome sightings an omen of the tragedy that was about to take place? As time would pass, memory and stories of the Mothman would subside. Then in 2017, sightings of the creature began to pop up around the states that surround Lake Michigan. A large, dark-winged creature with glowing blood-red eyes is a thing of nightmares. For many who witnessed it, it has become a horror of reality. Today we discuss the Lake Michigan Mothman with Tobias Wayland.Listen to part two of this interview and get exclusive access to HUNDREDS of bonus episodes at http://www.patreon.com/thegravetalksMore at: http://www.thegravetalks.com/lake-michigan-mothman/

There have been many speculations as to Mothman's origins since he was first spotted in Point Pleasant, West Virginia in 1966. Skeptics dismiss the phenomena saying Mothman sightings are really just sightings of a Sandhill Crane or an elaborate teenage prank. So what exactly is Mothman? Jeff Wamsley, author of Mothman:The Facts Behind The Legend, joins Jim Paris Live. Was there really a connection between the appearance of Mothman and the collapse of the Silver Bridge in 1967? Is there any correlation between the large number of UFO sightings in Point Pleasant and the Mothman? What were among the most shocking witness accounts and what was the lasting psychological damage to those that saw the creature? Why do many now believe that Mothman is a demon and not of this world? Why are Mothman type creatures being seen around the world and at notable locations such as near the site of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster? How accurate was the depiction of actual events in the 'Mothman Prophecies' Movie starring Richard Gere? Is Point Pleasant known for other paranmormal phenomenon?
