When we design their space in a way that takes into consideration we can improve their overall health, physical, mental, and emotional. We can also bring more joy and stability to their daily lives. Color has a vibrational effect on all of us, even when we have stopped communicating our passion for it. In this episode, I share with you the ways that you can use the colors that directly affect your mood during this time of decreased sunlight. I teach you which colors work best and why. How to identify the right color/s for you. I share with you the ways to incorporate them in your decor and other areas of your life, as well as the visionary process for using them to alter your vibration and create an environment ripe for healing and relief to take place.

Episode 109: Color Trends- How to Know if They're Right for You

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 11, 2024 54:03

What does it mean to be trendy? When clients announce to me that they are “not trendy” upon first consultation, I know that it means one or a combination of these 3 things: “I have definitive opinions about what I do and don't like.” “I want the selections in my space to have staying power, i.e. I don't want my space to feel dated in a couple of years.” “I want to feel seen in my space.” Many times they have invested in products or services that haven't aged well. Or conversely, they have made choices they loved in the past.  And now what they see in the retail market isn't their vibe, yet they feel the need to update. I often get asked about the Colors promoted as “color of the year” by the different companies. Specifically, I get asked what I think. I have come to recognize that it is a loaded question. In this episode, I tell you EXACTLY what I think.  The muzzle's off! I have some pretty strong opinions: They get cerebral: bringing in Rudolf Steiner's writings on color energetics.  His analysis of color he refers to as Peach Blossom in his 1921 lectures on color is relevant in this discussion of Pantone's selection of Peach Fuzz for 2024 over 100 years later! The energetics of a color matter. They get subjective: I was sailing the deep, history-laden parts of the Mediterranean when Benjamin Moore's Blue Nova and it's corresponding color palette was unveiled. They get biased: a girl's gotta have favorites! I explain the difference between a “trend”- which is a forecast with underlying significance.  And a “selection”- which is a marketing tactic designed to speak to a particular demographic. We do live in a consumer-driven society, after all. Your home should reflect your individuality, inspire you, and propel you forward.   You can understand yourself by understanding how you gravitate toward (or run from!) a color palette and unlock what's right for YOU!

In the alternative health and energetic healing world, you learn the path to feeling better is to release the heavy, dense emotions that you have stored in your body because you didn't fully experience it. We are taught from a young age to suppress our emotions; particularly the negative ones. So learning to feel our emotions can feel like an overwhelming task. What if the path to learning to move through negative emotions can be found in spending more time, CONSIDERABLY MORE TIME, in our positive emotions? When we luxuriate in positive emotions, we raise our vibration. We increase our energy level. We feel lighter (because we are!) and more capable. We can move through more challenging circumstances with less resistance. Give yourself the gift of joy by relishing the positive.

Do you struggle to let go? Are you feeling overwhelmed with clutter, to-do lists, and back to school organization? Every “how to declutter”  starts with getting rid of things that are expired, broken, don't fit, etc.  It's when we come upon those things that we once loved.  Or have happy memories attached to that prove challenging. When decisions need to be made, overwhelm can set in.   And it's easier to push it off to another day. Developing a healthy relationship with the things that you have accumulated moves from being a skill to an art when you master that delicate dance of allowing yourself to let go.   But even before you have mastered the art, you can begin to help your children recognize their attachments. I strongly believe that one of the foundational pieces to having a home that inspires you and that you truly love is being able to make decisions about your stuff. Understanding your relationship to those material possessions and creating a healthy relationship with them is a crucial step. How do we let go? What does the process of holding onto things look like? Holding onto our stuff, our possessions, derives from an evolutionary survival skill. Our innate need to hold on goes back to a basic reflex we learned at birth. Emotions are hard to navigate on their own.  But when you introduce the dynamics of the role you play in someone else's life, you're sailing through uncharted seas with numerous variables. This week I am sharing with you an extraordinary conversation that I had with a remarkable woman who supports high-achieving women in their roles as step-mothers.  Liz Kelly is  a stepmom of nearly ten years to two teenage (bonus) boys and mom to two toddler boys. She and her husband are raising these four incredible souls on our homestead near Princeton, New Jersey. Five years ago, she became steeped learning how the brain processes emotion. Now as a neuro-emotional coach, she works with high-achieving women – especially stepmoms – providing emotional safety and the tools and language to understand how their emotions work. Through this work, women are changing how they show up for themselves and their families. Liz comes from a 20-year career in writing and public relations to make her the perfect person to do this work in the world.. When you have found success in various areas of your life, it is hard to admit to struggling in such a vital and central area of your life. Liz shares with us the reasons that she started working with stepmoms and how her research in neuro-emotions and self-regulation have become a refreshing, if not REVOLUTIONARY, way of looking at step-parenting. This conversation is eye-opening if you play a central role in the raising of ANY children.   Liz helps us design the life that we want as a stepmom by: Explaining the role negative stereotypes play. The common challenges that stepmoms face Understanding the true foundational needs of each family member Knowing the 3 Brain states Interpreting the brain states to appropriately respond to a situation or circumstance and provide the support needed Changing the energy dynamics of our bonus children's experience of the home The role self-regulation plays in the ability to be the person you desire to be in your role as a step-mom Throughout this conversation we discuss the ways that we can create emotionally-nourishing and supportive environments to help our kids, our spouse, and ourselves thrive in the blended-family dynamic. I have to admit that I held a great deal of angst going into this conversation.  In truth, it is not something that I feel like I have done well to date.   But in this beautiful and heart-felt conversation, Liz opened my eyes to a different way to approach so many of the challenges that I have encountered. And, mostly, that I am not alone in my struggles. For the complete shownotes: episode webpage Instagram @lizpkelly

And most of us have been raised to be wary of things that grow on their own. In the Western Hemisphere, we have come to see “health” as an ongoing battle. We are constantly trying to fix things that are broken or out of whack. Incorporating herbs into your everyday life creates a natural balance where your body is better able to respond to its surroundings with ease. That's why I am so excited to share with you the conversation that I had with a Master Herbalist! My guest on this week's episode, Heidi Benard, came to herbalism in the most pure way possible: wanting a healthier existence for her daughter than she had as a child. Heidi has been creating organic herbal products professionally for over a decade and she started My Herbal Apothecary in 2019. Her continued curiosity encourages her to extend her education and exploration every year. Heidi enjoys distilling this information into fun, easy-to-access plant-based products for your home medicine cabinet. Our bodies are designed to process things in their most natural state, not the extracted and synthesized way we get most of our nutrients. In this conversation, we discuss the simplest ways to get more goodness into our bodies. Dr. Wayne Dyer famously defined the EGO as Edging God Out. I don't know about you but I remember growing up hearing the phrase “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” more times than I can count. Yet when it comes to cleaning, we often approach it from an ego-centric perspective. It's more about the facade of clean. It's more about what things look like. (Or smell like!) But in reality, “clean” doesn't have a smell. The multi-billion dollar cleaning industry would have you believe otherwise. They also want you to think that every surface AND kind of dirt requires a different product to do the job “right.” In this episode, I discuss the trade-offs we make to create the facade. Our health. Our children's health. The extra space in our cabinets we use to house all the things we supposedly need. The environmental impact. And so on. This episode is designed to help you evaluate those spring cleaning urges as they arrive; where they come from; and how to take action from your authentic self. And what is most directly aligned with the vision that you have for yourself and your family. We often think of clutter as mess. But when we take a hard look at how and why we do the things we do, or feel like we should do, we can start to see even the things that we use to clean and organize as a source of our distress. I am not a traditional roses and heart-shaped chocolate box kind of gal. They lack creativity and inspiration in my book. And the law of supply and demand makes them ridiculously overpriced. I would rather receive a bouquet of roses on a random day in mid-August. This episode is chock full of ways that you can expand your creativity on the theme of Valentine's Day. From 60's style “door curtains” that highlight the unique magic of each family member. To seeing that self-care can be as simple and as powerful as love letters to ourselves (and the ways to remind ourselves of that love). Recording those early words of self-love and family love from the mouths of our babes can serve them for years to come. And be straight-up hilarious! There are fun things to do with food that are simple and inexpensive yet extraordinary. And may even expand your child's adventure level with food, leading to a more nutrient rich palette. There are easy art projects to integrate into your design to build confidence as well as art techniques that provide stress relief and focus no matter what you think of yourself as an artist. The most important thing to remember when putting on your creative hat this Valentine's Day is to have fun. Love can be fun if we let it!

Hearts abound this time of year. They are everywhere you look. I don't know about you but I often find it hard to fully love and appreciate myself exactly where I am, right now. My thoughts quickly drift to self-improvement, home improvement, the what-ifs, and I coulds. Or they float to the past. The things I can pat myself on the back for. The things I wish I had handled differently. The shape I was in. Depending on my mood, I can sit in accomplishments Or defeats. In this episode, I share with you how I shift into the mindset of loving myself exactly where I am at, presently. Without judgment or analysis. I am not going to say it's easy. But I am finding it to be vital. For access to the discussion forum and the complete show notes, go to: episode webpage

Some people are unquestionably “plant people.” Others claim they don't have a green thumb. There are some powerful reasons that we all need to have more plants in our lives. Even though it has been unseasonably warm here in Pennsylvania, the same “wintry issues” are cropping up. Dry air. Dry skin. The winter coughs and colds. Lethargy. Depression. Having more plants in your home helps with ALL of these things. In this episode of the In Her Eyes Podcast, I take you through 8 reasons why you NEED plants in your home. When I started doing the research for this episode, I knew some of these. I was shocked to find how complete the science was behind the initial 5 reasons that I had outlined. But some of the other reasons were VERY exciting to discover! And if you think you have tried adding plants to your home before and you just don't have a green thumb, you definitely want to listen in. Not only do I give you tips on becoming a better plant mom (I had to learn through trial and error), I share with you the mental and physical costs of not flexing your green thumb. There are some important questions to ask yourself if you think you can't keep houseplants alive. And some potent reasons you should! What is intuition? Is there a way to enhance it? Can we go beyond just “listening to our gut?' My answer is YES WE CAN! Intuition can be such a broad and elusive term. In order to develop it, we must first understand it in all of its forms. It shows up differently for each person. Understanding your primary intuitive strength is the first step to enhancing your intuition. The “clairs” are the sensory ways that we communicate with the unseen world. In this episode of the In Her Eyes Podcast, I explain each of the “clairs.” Clairvoyance- clear-seeing Clairaudience- clear-hearing Clairsentience- clear-feeling Clairalience- clear-smelling Clairgustance- clear-tasting Claircognizance- clear-knowing I walk you through how you might already be experiencing it in everyday life including the activities that you may be drawn to or have taken on as a profession. I will also share with you the actions to take to fine-tune your innate clair. Once you learn how to identify your clair from the routine chatter that you experience in your mind, you will be able to tap into it on a deeper level. And once we start owning our strengths, we begin to normalize our gifts and access our power. For access to the discussion forum and the complete show notes, go to: episode webpage

Episode 65: The Power of Release

If the definition of crazy is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, then how do we break the cycle? It's why I have given up resolutions, and focus on the journey instead. Etched in my memory is the scene in the movie, The Jerk, with Steve Martin where he is leaving home but procrastinates by needing to grab random things to take with him; including a random kitchen chair. Whenever I am asking myself if something is truly important to keep, I wonder if it's just that chair: something I am choosing to hang on to to keep me in that holding pattern. Circling above what I really want. With it within sight but mysteriously unattainable. Once you have committed to change, you have to commit to RELEASE. To those of you who committed to “the Assignment” in episode 58. I applaud you! If you were like me and started out strong but fizzled out as things got busy, you may have realized as I did the lesson in that alone. I let go of some hard stuff: physical objects, resentments, obligations, expectations, and more. And I also slipped back into comfort patterns that weren't necessarily aligned with the desired path forward. This episode starts out differently than most. With the experience of physical release. A fun exercise to remind you how good it feels to let go. And that YOU are IN CHARGE of the process of Release. Therein lies the power! For the full shownotes, go to: episode webpage
