Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning. Perhaps you too are familiar with this verse. You've heard it or read it. Perhaps you didn't know it was in Psalm 30, but you've been encouraged by this scripture before. This week, Luke Helms, a long-time friend of Will and I's and of ours here at The Good Day, is back again and sharing key insight from Revelation on this verse. Luke lives in Oklahoma City, where he has found a wonderful community of believers at Crossings Community Church. He has an insatiable desire to learn and write about the interconnectedness and symbolism of the Bible. Luke enjoys trying new restaurants, traveling (nineteen countries and twenty-four states so far), and going to Thunder games. Where are you dwelling today? I, for one, don't ask myself this question enough. We're more accustomed to hearing, "How are you doing today?" but if we want to understand why we're doing well or poorly, I believe it actually goes back to this first question: Where are you dwelling today? My friend, Melissa Labieniec is sharing her reflection of the beloved Psalm 23 with us and helping us experience the peace God has for us. You'll want to stick around 'til the end, the last story she shares is powerful and such a good visual for us as we go forward in our ever-changing circumstances. My attempt to "do-it-all" shines brightest when it's time to carry in groceries. Sure, it's a lot and it's heavy, and yeah, I pushed it in a cart at the store, but now that it's time to carry it in the house, I decide to do this all in one trip. Deep breath. Do you do this too? Maybe not with groceries but with all the various bags and burdens you carry for the day? This tendency is something my friend, Bethany Kimsey has experienced too. She's sharing her reflection of Psalm 16 to help us surrender this load we're carrying to God and experience His freedom and the lightness He offers us today. As a mother to 8 children, Bethany Kimsey has seen God radically change her messy motherhood from weary, anxious, and frantic to peaceful, joyful, and triumphant. She helps weary mothers win the battle against worry and fatigue as they understand their identity in Christ and rest in the hope of the Gospel in community with other moms. As a writer, speaker, and encourager of mothers, she wants to see a generation of mothers who can connect their motherhood to the love of Jesus in real and practical ways so that they can be confident. She recently authored A Warrior Mama's Prayers journal to help mothers pray intentionally over their children and anchor in gospel truths. This can be purchased at www.Bethanykimsey.com or on Amazon. What has your prayer life looked like today? This week? This month? Is it a daily rhythm or has busyness or distraction seeped in and taken your attention away? Usually when this happens, we open the door for worry and fear. As we're studying the Psalms together again this Summer, I knew I wanted my dear friend, Patty Conrad, to join us and share how she has learned to pray through the Psalms. These words, as ancient and poetic as they may be, can serve as a guide, a practical prayer prompt for us when we don't know what or how to pray. Maybe we're unsure how to approach the throne room of the Almighty. Maybe we know, but we need something to help us make it a daily habit. Patty Conrad graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Education. She taught special education for 8 years, has been homeschooling for 22 years and currently teaches 1st grade at a private classical school. We don't have to be around a child or children for very long to see their expressions, attitudes, and longing for independence is serving as a mirror to that of our own. My friend, Anita McVey, is sharing of a time her grand-daughter unknowingly held up this mirror for her and the surrender and promise which came as she reflected on this experience in the light of Psalm 2. Anita Hinkeldey McVey is a midwest farmer's daughter who grew up in northwest Iowa on a steady diet of faith, family, and food. Her passion for cooking and gardening inspired her to create a blog, Picnic Life Foodie, where she shares her favorite recipes and the fond memories they bring to mind. The cycle of overwhelm. We all know this. The things in the cycle, causing it to pick up momentum vary but the overwhelming result is not a foreign feeling to any of us. To interrupt this cycle, we need to learn to use our minds to calm and quiet our brains. When we do, our soul finds rest. The truth is life is overwhelming but God has peace for us available to us today. Are we seeking this or surrendering to our circumstance and running the rat race? This pivot is something my friend, Laura L. Smith has experienced too. She's sharing her reflection of Psalm 131 to help us recenter today and engage in the peace God has for us. Laura L. Psalm 124 is where we're starting this summer and though I've chosen this, seemingly by happenstance, simply picking up where we left off from last summer, I don't believe this is a matter of happenstance.I believe it's a Psalm our hearts need to ponder.Perhaps I'm projecting my teacher days a bit here, but summer is often looked at as a time of refreshment. Not just because we can beat the heat by splashing in a refreshing pool of water with friends, but because the days are longer, our schedules a bit more flexible. We vacate, even if not physically to a new location, we vacate to a less stressed, more relaxed state of mind.Or at least, we long to.And what I know to be true is if we want to feel this refreshment mentally - have less to do's and to be's on our minds- and physically - our shoulders moving away from our ears, our guts finding healthy rhythm once again... If we want to feel this refreshment emotionally - less weight to carry... Then, we must be intentional to seek this refreshment spiritually. In other words, if we want to be refreshed mentally, physically and emotionally, we have to bring these things to God.The Psalms are just that. A collection of times when people who lived before us have brought “their things” to God...C A N D A C E C O F E Rauthor + speaker website | instagram | youtube | facebook

The weary world rejoices - these words from the familiar Christmas hymn are ones I've held close in recent years. I gather strength from this reminder, this command from scripture to rejoice. Rejoice now, it tells me. For it's not "the redeemed world rejoices" but the weary world who does the rejoicing, the world weary in waiting. Weary from what seems like a prolonged coming, a prolonged advent. Much like Abraham's wife, Sarah... C A N D A C E C O F E R author + speaker website | instagram | youtube | facebook

If you've been following along with us this Christmas, you know we're looking at the genealogy of Christ, traveling back to Genesis with Adam, last week to Noah and now we're going to pause at Genesis 12 with Abraham. In Genesis 12, we see the unwrapping of grace - the very order of grace. C A N D A C E C O F E R author + speaker website | instagram | youtube | facebook

Christmas, though we associate with jolly music, decadent recipes, colorful packages with shiny ribbon, and celebration, is not the absence of pain. Christmas is not the absence of suffering. And if you're thinking, "Okay, but my heart is broken in two. This pain I feel is real. It's overwhelming. If there's a God who feels, a God who cares, wouldn't He see the injustice of the world and His heart would break?" May I remind you friend, it does. God's heart breaks when He sees our pain and suffering. I know this sounds comforting but it's not just a nice-to-hear, it's the truth. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Walk with me back to Genesis. C A N D A C E C O F E R author + speaker website | instagram | youtube | facebook

Finding the perfect Christmas tree - we consider the size, notably the height, volume of branches, spacing of branches to ensure there are no gaps between the branches, the hue of green, the touch of the pine, whether we want real or artificial, and if artificial then pre-lit or not, as well as assembly and disassembly. What none of us imagine, what none of us have in mind is a stump. But, this is precisely what the first Christmas tree was. An old root. A stump. November to me is summarized most plainly and festively as "Fall-la-la-la" - the time when seasons merge, both pumpkins and maybe trees. By no effort of my own, only through means of a gift received, there is fudge in the fridge. Fudge, of all things, has been our first sign of the holidays this year. The anticipation of Christmas just around the bend. And soon conversations move from the tree to holiday plans, and with it, the holiday "F" word is mentioned. Family.
