Jennifer Fink created the "Fading Memories" podcast after struggling to find support for Alzheimer's caregiving.   Jennifer's family history with Alzheimer's motivated her to share information and connect with others facing similar challenges.   She highlights the overwhelming search for support and information that led her to realize she was not alone—there are over 16 million unpaid family caregivers in the U.S.   Jennifer explains the emotional toll of caregiving, referring to it as a "death by a thousand cuts," as the gradual decline of a loved one is particularly hard to cope with.   She emphasizes the need for humor and positivity in the face of these challenges - finding laughter is crucial for maintaining mental health.   She discusses the importance of being relatable and sharing personal stories to connect with her audience.   Furthermore, Jennifer highlights the importance of finding happiness in one's work through balance and flexibility. This special episode is a rebroadcast of the Fading Memories: Alzheimer's/Dementia Support podcast hosted by Jennifer Fink. I had a wonderful conversation with Jen Fink, the producer and host of Fading Memories podcast. It's a great show that listens, hears, and offers hope, advice, and wisdom from caregivers who have lived the experience and thrived. Think of her podcast as your caregiver best friend. Before meeting Jen, I did not know that there is a podcast like Fading Memories that helps caregivers across the globe in varying circumstances and cultures. I sure learned a lot about Alzheimer's and dementia by listening to her many episodes that she posted since 2020. There's a lot to learn from Jen. Most notable is the fact that she herself was a caregiver of her mom. In this episode, Jen and I talked about Using Mindfulness To Reduce Frustrations. If you're a caregiver or know of caregivers who are going through the same situation, this can help ease the many challenges that many of us face. Truth be told, I did not only have fun chatting with Jen. I also was educated about the many facts about Alzheimer's and dementia. To know more about Jen's amazing podcast, here are the details including a YouTube recording of this episode. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fading-memories-alzheimers-dementia-support/id1372194620https://open.spotify.com/show/3deSSZyYhuvND3XQtbBE0Whttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRbzP9ROIMQEnjoy this rebroadcast episode with Jennifer Fink of Fading Memories Alzheimer and Dementia support podcast. Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/find-your-daily-calm/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Raising Decent Human Beings with Brad Kraay and Jennifer Fink Jennifer L.W. Fink is a mother of four sons, an award-winning freelance journalist, author, and co-host of the podcast On Boys: Real Talk about Parenting, Teaching, and Reaching Tomorrow's Men. She is also the founder and creator of BuildingBoys.net, a website and global community for parents of boys. Brad Kraay is a father of three, the founder and senior partner of Thunderbird Advisors Group, and has spent years doing the work on himself to be the best co-parent he can be. In this episode, Mathew, Brad, and Jennifer discuss the challenges of raising children while still trying to figure out how to navigate our own lives. Mathew says, “Most people think they are fine until they have children”, to kick off a conversation about the ways our children reflect our insecurities and faults back at us and how we can deal with that in a realistic and constructive way. They may not always listen, but they do always watch. You can say all the right things, but if you don't live them, it probably won't make an impact. The most powerful and effective thing a parent can do is work on their own emotional regulation, normalize the challenges of being a human, and work to overcome them. Jennifer says, “Modeling is the single most powerful parenting tool we have.” Bring them along on your journey of self-improvement, and communicate your feelings and thoughts with them in the way you want them to communicate with you. Getting comfortable with uncomfortable situations will benefit both of you and your kids in the long run and make it easier to navigate the inevitable shifts your relationship will go through. When they are young, children often idolize their parents. In the teen years, they can grow to resent you (and sometimes the feeling is mutual). However, if you keep the deceptively simple goal in mind of raising decent humans, focusing on what really matters, and being your best, they'll eventually come around again. “Your genes might reveal where you come from, but your choices determine where you're going to go.” In this episode, you'll hear: The societal shift away from imposing stereotypes on boys and why we aren't completely past it How do children reflect and magnify our faults and insecurities, and how should we deal with that? New Podcast on the Whole Care Network: Fading Memories with host Jennifer Fink. In this episode, Jennifer visits with Steph Jagger who found herself faced with the heartbreaking reality of losing her mother twice. Her mother, afflicted by an insidious ailment that gradually erodes her memories and identity, struggles to recall even the simplest aspects of her life—her favorite beverage, her cherished melody, and Steph herself. Witnessing her mother's gradual descent into oblivion without the chance to share her own narrative, Steph makes a solemn vow: she will undertake the journey her mother can no longer undertake and immortalize it in writing. Keenly aware of her mother's fading recollections, Steph proposes a camping expedition to Montana—an idea her mother reluctantly agrees to, urged on by Steph's father. What begins as an adventure replete with horseback riding, hiking, and nights spent "tenting" in the Western wilderness swiftly transforms into a profound exploration of Steph's own childhood, her experiences as a mother, her sense of self, and the complexities of loving someone who can no longer remember the person she has become. Everything Left to Remember is a profoundly moving and visually stunning contemplation of how stories are passed down from generation to generation, both through familial lineage and the vast tapestry of nature itself. Against the backdrop of Montana's expansive sky, under the watchful gaze of constellations, this extraordinary journey imparts the wisdom of how our memories shape us into the individuals we are. During the course of our conversation, Steph and I embarked on an introspective journey that uncovers a profound truth: the discovery of emotional wellness as an indispensable tool for caregivers was unveiled in the most unexpected of places—beneath the vast expanse of celestial wonders that adorned the night sky. As we exchange thoughts, we find ourselves immersed in the remarkable realization that gazing up at those distant stars was a catalyst for understanding the intricacies of tending to others with empathy and compassion. The awe-inspiring cosmic backdrop seemed to bestow upon us a newfound wisdom, allowing us to recognize the importance of nurturing our own emotional well-being as caregivers so that we may better support and uplift those in our care. In this luminous setting, surrounded by the infinite beauty of the universe, we appreciate the interconnectedness of our emotional journey with the boundless love and care we provide to others. If it were not for you, our Runcation Nation community, we would not have had this show for the last five years, had some of the most amazing experiences, and created lasting friendships in this community. Next up is an inspiring speech given by a great inspiration in the world of running and a world-record holder in the marathon distance for double amputees, Marko Cheseto!   SHOUT OUTS  Thanks to all our patrons and everyone in the Runcation Nation for your support and encouragement.  Because of you, we have been able to keep the show going over the last 18 months, and now that the races are returning, we look forward to meeting up with you, too! We shout out Marko Cheseto because he ran Boston today.  Rhonda Lee did her virtual Boston on Sunday.  Mike Rahlmann, Ana of Anna Runs on Coffee,  and Greg of Greg in Orlando were running Chicago Marathon.  JoJo did the Middle Half.  Jennifer Fink and Maria did RunBentonville Half Marathon.  Jennifer Hall - -Fun-Sized-Jen did Baltimore Runfest Baltimore Marathon.  Great job to all!!! For anyone who would like a shoutout on the show, please don't forget to send them to us. We do our best to collect them throughout the week, but please send them our way!  Please send them to info@runeatdrink.net or call 941-677-2733! Special thank you to all our patrons!  We have been able to expand our studio and keep the show going over the last year and a half.    We can't express how much it means to us.  We appreciate your support from the bottom of our hearts.  If you'd like more of the Run Eat Drink Podcast, including bonus content and early access to episodes, become a patron!  Go to www.patreon.com/runeatdrinkpodcast to find out more. RUN While we were at the Anchorage RunFest, we met up with two inspirational figures in the running community: Marko Cheseto and Bart Yasso.  We heard Marko talk at the pasta feed on Saturday of the race weekend.  We think the lessons he spoke about are worth sharing, and we do so from a bit of audio we captured at the luncheon.  We discuss these lessons and what they mean to us in running and life.  (Please forgive the audio.  A fire alarm was going off for much of Marko's speech.  His message is worth hearing, and hopefully, you can get past that to listen to the meaningful message.  Thank you for hanging in there, if you can.) EAT Grizzly Dogs Food Truck was outside King Street Brewing while we were in Anchorage for the Anchorage RunFest.  When we saw their menu, we couldn't help but try their signature item, "The Grizzly Dog" for 10.00.  They chop a reindeer sausage and smother it with sautéed onions, peppers, and cheese sauce. Yum!  Other items on their menu piqued our interest, so… of course, we want to get back to it when we are in Anchorage again.   DRINK King Street Brewing is a huge space with tasty beer on the menu and a beautiful view of the mountains in Anchorage.  You can sample their beer from any three stories while you look over into the brewing facility or take a seat by a window and admire the beautiful Mountain View while having a cold one.  They have a wide variety of styles on their menu.  We talked about what we had while we were there.  We hope to get back to this neat space with many friendly beer tenders.   If you choose to indulge, please drink responsibly by having a designated driver or taking a rideshare service. Stay safe, Runcation Nation! THAT'S A WRAP! Thank you for listening! We are looking forward to YEAR NUMBER 5 of the podcast because of your support! After helping care for her grandmother who had vascular dementia, Jennifer realized her Mother was showing signs of early onset Alzheimer's. After the death of her father in 2017 Jennifer went searching for answers to many of the common questions and Alzheimer's caregiver faces. Being a busy entrepreneur Jennifer realized that a podcast would be the easiest way to learn more about caregiving while completing other tasks. Sadly, in late 2017 she only found one and it didn't quite address what she was looking for, so she did the next best thing, and started her own. The Fading Memories podcast is now in it's fourth year and despite the death of her Mom in March 2020, Jennifer is still talking to caregivers and still learning how to be an excellent caregiver. On the podcast she discusses caregiving, brain health, self care and how to age well.

In Episode 44,  Don and I had a candid conversation with Jennifer Fink -   Founder and Host of Fading Memories Podcast - about a topic that doesn't  seem to get as much attention as it should. Personal hygiene and our loved ones. As Alzheimer's progresses, poor hygiene can become an issue: people living with dementia (PLWD) often refuse to bathe and even change their clothes.  It can even lead to medical problem such as urinary tract infections. Because Alzheimer's causes a slow decline of cognitive functions, a PLWD will begin to get confused about seemingly simple things, like how to wash their hair.  A PLWD may be overwhelmed and confused by all the products on the bathroom counter, perhaps mistaking a tube of lotion for toothpaste. Sometimes they don't recognize their loved ones or even themselves, so the images they see in the mirror may be confused as strangers!Sensory perception, especially vision, touch and smell, also changes. This can make a tub of water seem scary as depth perception changes.  The water spray from the shower can feel like sharp needles.  A smelly shirt may be more comforting than a freshly laundered – but unfamiliar – replacement. Room or water temperature may feel different to the PLWD than it does to us. Jennifer shares some of the best tips for overcoming the challenges associated with PLWD's and their personal hygiene.  Jennifer spent the first half of her adult life as a portrait photographer, retired from in early 2020. Listening to podcasts became a favorite way to learn new things while walking the dogsor doing household chores. After the death of her father in March 2017, dealing with and caring for her Mother became a much bigger part of her life. Looking to her favorite media in search of answers and not finding what she was looking for, Jennifer decided she would create a supportive podcast that caregivers of Alzheimer's patients need and deserve. Jennifer is the daughter, grand daughter & great grand daughter of women who suffered from Alzheimer's or other cognitive impairment. Looking for answers on how not to become the fourth generation with this problem  has led her on this interesting journey with her new passion, podcasting.Connect with Jennifer: FACEBOOK TWITTER INSTAGRAM LINKEDIN APPLE PODCAST SPOTIFYSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/preview/3feccac8decf451cbee818066461f7c1)

RUN While we were at the Anchorage RunFest, we had the pleasure of meeting up with two inspirational figures in the running community: Marko Cheseto and Bart Yasso.  We heard Marko give a talk at the pasta feed on Saturday of the race weekend.  We think the lessons he talked about are worth sharing and we do so from a bit of audio we captured at the luncheon.  We discuss these lessons and what they mean to us in running and life as well.  (Please forgive the audio.  A fire alarm was going off for much of Marko's speech.  His message is worth hearing and hopefully you can get past that to hear the meaningful message.  Thank you for hanging in there, if you can.) EAT Grizzly Dogs Food Truck was outside of King Street Brewing while we were in Anchorage for the Anchorage RunFest.  When we saw their menu, we couldn't help but try their signature item, "The Grizzly Dog" for 10.00.  They chop a reindeer sausage and smother it with sautéed onions, peppers and cheese sauce. Yum!  There are other items on their menu that piqued our interest, so… of course we definitely want to get back to it when we are in Anchorage again.   DRINK King Street Brewing is a big space with tasty beer on the menu and a beautiful view of the mountains in Anchorage.  You can sample their beer from any of the three stories while you look over into the brewing facility or you take a seat by a window and admire the beautiful Mountain View while having a cold one.  They have a wide variety of styles on their menu.  We talk about what we had while we were there.  We hope to get back to this neat space with so many friendly beer tenders.   THAT'S A WRAP! Welcome to Episode 18 of The Write Start. I'm Lisa Iannucci, and this podcast is all about becoming a successful full-time freelance writer. I've had a very long career where I've written for many national magazines and newspapers and written more than 20 books. It's my career, not my hobby and, on this podcast, you'll learn everything you need to know about writing --from finding ideas to landing assignments and, most importantly, making money. This week on The Write Start my guest is successful full time freelance writer Jennifer L.W. Fink, RN, BSN, a Registered Nurse-turned-writer. She's the creator of BuildingBoys.net, co-host of the ON BOYS parenting podcast, and author of The First –Time Mom's Guide to Raising Boys. Jennifer has been published by The New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, The Washington Post, FOX News, Parents, Cancer Today and Medscape.  Today she's here to talk about her career and her book, one I wish I had when I was raising my son. But let's get into this and find out how she's been so successful in her full-time freelance writing career. Also, I have created a course that will launch at the end of August. No fancy title… It's simply called Become a Successful Freelance Writer but it includes so much. I dig deep into finding ideas, pitching editors and using one article or idea to create multiple assignments. The course is intensive and you will get several resources from me, but most of all you'll finish the course with a clear path of your writing goals and how to get there. If you sign up, you will have access to me at any time while you're taking the course. The outline will be put up on the website shortly, but the course is open for enrollment as of now. Just go to https://the-writer-start.teachable.com/ to sign up. I know there are so many of these courses out there, but I've lived what I'm going to teach you and I've been teaching courses like this for years. I hope I can help you to finally become the successful full-time freelance writer that you've always wanted to be. https://the-writer-start.teachable.com/Well, that's it for this week's edition of The Write Start podcast. Emily talks with three guests who bring their personal and professional expertise to the challenge.
