My guest this week is Lucy Griffiths, a force of nature who rose to the top in the cut-throat world of video journalism, reporting in war zones& even ending up in jail for reporting in Myanmar. But after childbirth she developed severe incontinence & had to rethink her career, becoming an entrepreneur, online course officianado & author of Money While You Sleep.Lucy taught English in China and was there during the SARS outbreak, so she knew what was coming when Covid struck. Her business was already online by this time so she was able to keep it going. In fact her book Money While You Sleep helps us all to navigate disasters by creating an online income stream. She herself was forced to do just that when her successful career was brought to an abrupt halt after she gave birth to her son.Always one for travel and adventure she had reported in the four quarters of the world and loved her job for its ability to shine a light on issues that otherwise might remain hidden, such as the refugee crisis or in war-torn Burmah. But after giving birth, Lucy suffered such severe incontinence she was unable to leave the house. Over time she received some relief from her symptoms but her career as she had known it was over. So she began to build a business online; something she could do around her young baby and her physical condition.Gradually she started helping other people to work in a more 'passive' way too. She had proved in her own life that anyone can build a business from their bedroom regardless of circumstance, age, location or skillset. And now she could share those tools and techniques with anyone who needed them. Her dream is to help refugees build a business and build a new life for themselves. Thanks so much Lucy, for your openness in talking about the silent burden of incontinence that so lives are hindered by, and for offering a way of making money while you sleep to bring freedom to anyone, no matter their life circumstances. Thanks also for showing us that we can all dream big and create financial freedom for ourselves through the power of serving others online. You can find out more about Lucy's work on https://lucygriffiths.com/ and follow her on Instagram @lucygriffithsdotcomJoin Lou on Linkedin, or sign up to her mailing list for her newsletter and a free podcast guesting mini-guide. On today's episode of The Write Start my guest is Cindy Begel and I have to admit that I decided to do this episode purely for selfish reasons because this episode focuses on becoming a television and movie writer and not becoming a typical print journalist -- what I really focus on here. I still think that any writer can learn, and be inspired by, Cindy so I hope you'll listen.Cindy Begel is a television writer-producer who has worked for the legendary Garry Marshall and Norman Lear. She's worked on many classic prime time hit shows, including some of my favorite TV shows ever -- Mork & Mindy, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, The Jeffersons, Head of The Class, Alice, and The New Leave It To Beaver. She has also written for The Martin Short Show, and Mama's Family. She created/wrote all 52 episodes of the animated series The Kids From Room 402. She wrote feature films for Paramount and Universal Studios. Cindy has some great stories to tell including her chat with Lucille Ball, dinner with Carol Burnett, making Robin Williams laugh and more! Is it an Impossible task to bring a successful tv show to film? Come with us as we dissect the first Mission: Impossible movie! For the most part, Spy Movies have had their origin from books: James Bond, Bourne Identity, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan stories, John Le Carre’s books, etc. However, in 1996, Paramount Pictures and Cruise/Wagner Productions, released the first film of the Mission: Impossible series, based on the TV show. Other spy-based tv shows wouldn’t get their US big-screen debuts until years later (namely I Spy in 2002 and Get Smart in 2008, even the Man From Uncle in 2013).

Paul Daniels has been described as "the most successful TV magician in the world". His career has spanned over four decades, entertaining the public around the world with his mixture of magical dexterity and humour. As with all walks of life, such success brings inevitable jealousy and Paul has endured (and survived) numerous attempts by the mass media, to discredit and tarnish his name and image. In this 45 minute interview Paul Daniels oozes contentment. He is a man who has never lost his ambition or his insatiable passion for life and despite an ever-changing and increasingly polluted entertainment industry, Paul still stands proud in his achievements. The discussion, as well as covering all elements of Paul's magic and the secrets of successful entertainment, adopts a very realistic and painfully truthful stance. We cover politics, crime & punishment, "gone soft" Britain, the smugness of current TV talent judges, as well as flying head first into an attack on the public's bloodlust for humiliation. We talk Derren Brown, X Factor, Debbie McGhee and much more in an interview which may very well change some people's opinion of Paul Daniels forever. As with Paul's magic act itself, expect the unexpected in one of our most insightful interviews to date. For all artists trying to get heard and make a name for yourself in entertainment - this is essential listening. As Paul says himself; "Don't copy anyone else. You are the best one of you there is. Be yourself, and exaggerate yourself slightly." Enjoy! Peter Aykroyd spent his childhood watching his family''s parlor sances through the crack of a basement door. Here, for the first time, Aykroyd tells the strange and delightful story that inspired his son, Dan, to make the mega-hit, Ghostbusters . Part history, part family legend, A History of Ghosts starts in 1848 in upstate New York, where the spiritualist craze first began. Aykroyd introduces the reader to notable mediums while telling the story of the development of spiritualism, interweaving a personal history marked by a fascination with ghosts and spirits with the larger narrative about the role the paranormal has played in our culture. Such legendary figures as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Harry Houdini appear and vanish. Everyone loves a good ghost story. Successful TV shows such as Medium and Ghost Hunters are proof that our national obsession with ghosts is here to stay. Millions of Americans believe in the paranormal-and even skeptics have heard a bump in the night and suspected it might be something supernatural.
