Before we tackle Robert Eggers' Nosferatu (2024), Brandon and I take on Werner Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979). Klaus Kinski stars as Count Dracula, not Count Orlock in this version. Isabelle Adjani stars as Lucy Harker. Kinski played Renfield opposite Christopher Lee's Dracula in Jess Franco's Count Dracula (1970)! 1979 was a big year for Dracula! There were three films featuring Bram Stoker's Vampire Count...Dracula directed by John Badham starring Frank Langella, Love at First Bite directed by Stan Dragoti starring George Hamilton, and Nosferatu the Vampyre! Join us on our Nosferatu journey and let us know your favorite! Plot: Count Dracula moves from Transylvania to Wismar, spreading the Black Plague across the land. Only a woman pure of heart can bring an end to his reign of horror. Taglines: Nosferatu...he who is doomed to wander alone in darkness. Nosferatu...he who is condemned to destroy even those whom he loves. Nosferatu...a tale of seduction in the dark night of the soul. It is fear and fun. It is a scream of horror and a cry of delight. It is Nosferatu, the Vampyre. ...He who is doomed to wander alone in darkness. ...He who is condemned to destroy even those whom he loves.

Gerne per Mail an podcast@sm.mv-regierung.de

Londonkontoret, The Steelyard, växte fram under 1200-talet. Januar 2024 aufgenommen. Hear about a German road trip to 9 UNESCO Cities as the Amateur Traveler talks to Renee Hannes from dreamplanexperience.com about her exploration of the land of her ancestors. https://amateurtraveler.com/germany-road-trip-to-9-unesco-cities/ Renee says, "I just returned from living in Berlin for 3 months. So had an opportunity to make a little bit of a longer trip and was there with my husband and dog and lived in Berlin and I had a good chance to be able to see the city and lots of other places around it. I had this long list of places on my to-do list. I think like most travelers, I become very quickly overwhelmed with how many places I wanted to see. So I thought why not think about what are those places that are worthy of a visit?" "That's where I came upon thinking about it from a UNESCO perspective and UNESCO sites are always worthy places to visit special places to visit in terms of the history and the moments in history that they help create and shape the architecture that usually is pretty spectacular to be able to see from, nature and the landscapes that we want to protect and then also it gives us really good insights into the culture.
Obends weller no Huus Jo, ick kann mi noch good dorop besinn‘, wat ick dat erste Mol in de DDR ween bün. Mit'n Bus weer ick dor. Mien Vadder weer de Busfohrer, un man schreev dat Johr 1987. Wi sünd an Grenzövergang Schlutup bi Lübeck vun een Düütschland in't annere fohrt. Dat gung denn över Wismar no Rostock un Warnemünde, bet dat obends weller trüch gung. Un al 'n poor Kilometer no'n Grenzövergang heff ick mien Vadder froogt, worüm de Strooten dor denn so slecht weern. Dorüm weern keen Geld un keen Materiol dor, üm de Strooten to repareern. An düsse Wöörd vun mien Oln mutt ick hüütigendoogs jümmers öfter dinken, wenn ick mit mien Auto dör Dithmarschen pulter, denn so langsom krieg ick weller Angst üm mien Tähn. 1987 wurrn de Strooten bi uns noch saneert, wenn se in Dutt weern. Loter wurr denn jümmers mehr flickschoostert. Denn wurrn de Flicken flickt. Un intwüschen ward geföhlt mehr Schiller opstellt, wo „Schlechte Wegstrecke“ op to leesen steiht, as dat wat repareert ward. Dor dörft man denn blots 30 fohrn. An de dorsten Steeden ward ook gern blitzt. Wat dat ni ewig so wiedergeiht, schient mennige Entscheeders in Berlin, wiet achter Schlutup, annerlei to ween. The film of the week is Werner Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979.) From wiki: “Nosferatu the Vampyre (German: Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht, lit. 'Nosferatu: Phantom of the Night') is a 1979 horror film written and directed by Werner Herzog. It is set primarily in 19th-century Wismar, Germany and Transylvania, and was conceived as a stylistic remake of F. W. Murnau's 1922 German Dracula adaptation Nosferatu. The picture stars Klaus Kinski as Count Dracula, Isabelle Adjani as Lucy Harker, Bruno Ganz as Jonathan Harker, and French artist-writer Roland Topor as Renfield. There are two different versions of the film, one in which the actors speak English, and one in which they speak German.[3] “ But also, they discuss the John Waters show at the Academy Museum and all things John Waters. Josh discusses his Piggly Wiggly bucket list films, Blood Beach (1982) and Gator Bait (1973) and all about horror movie marketing. For our first episode we decided to go back to the beginning, the moment when we all decided that lighting design was the path for us to take and ponder on. We interviewed a few architectural lighting students from Wismar since they are at the beginning of their journey and a few fellow lighting designers with several years of practice. We would like to thank our fellow designers: Carlijn Timmermans from C.Light.Wise in the Netherlands, Mahdis Aliasgari from Lighting Design Collective in Madrid and Fanny Perineau from Licht Kunst Licht in Berlin as well as our dedicated Wismar participants Amir Kamyabi from Iran and Yuri Astakhov from Russia. We eagerly invite you, our listeners, to share your own thoughts and perspectives on the matters we've discussed today. If you're interested in participating, please reach out to us via email livelightpodcast@gmail.com, and we'll provide you with our questionnaire. Once we gather enough responses from all of you, we'll record a follow-up episode to delve deeper into the topic and reflect your invaluable insights.* We're aware of some extra noise in the background. As we continue to evolve and enhance our podcast, your understanding is greatly appreciated.

If I put the word Hanseatic into Google Search I get as result number 4 “Hanseatic King's Lynn -Visit West Norfolk”. I can say with absolute confidence that there is not a single German individual, place or organisation that a small town in England would choose to not just associate with but incorporate itself into its history, safe for the Hanseatic League. They may play Zedoch the Priest at the coronation but that is because both Handel and Price Charles are considered English with German roots. Kings Lynn calling itself a Hanseatic city is a different thing. And it happens in many other places, Bergen is proud of its Hanseatic past as is Visby in Gotland or the Dutch former members of the League. The love of all things Hanseatic goes so far that it even overrides the German fascination with all things car related. As you may know, the German system of numberplates is strictly hierarchical. The first 1, 2 or 3 letters indicate the place where the vehicle is registered at the time. The more letters, the smaller the town or county of registration. For instance, WES stands for Wesel and STD for Stade, two of the smaller members of the Hanseatic League. The two-letter cities are plentiful and some, like LG stands for Lüneburg and BS for Brunswick. Only the largest cities get to proudly display just one single letter – for instance K for Cologne, B for Berlin and F for Frankfurt. But what about Germany's second largest city, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg? Does your honourable Hamburg merchant drive round in a car ostentatiously displaying a proud single H? No, of course he doesn't. His numberplate is HH, standing for Hansestadt Hamburg, leaving the single H to the inland Hanoverians. Other Hanseatic cities like Bremen, Lübeck, Wismar, Rostock, Greifswald and Stralsund also proudly carry an additional H on their numberplate, a subtle reminder to everyone that their hometowns are different and dare one say, superior to other cities. How can an organisation that had hardly any permanent institutions traded rather pedestrian commodities like grain, Hering, furs and beeswax and ceased to exist in 1669 still stir so many peoples' hearts with pride, that is what we will try to figure out in this podcast series. The music for the show is Flute Sonata in E-flat major, H.545 by Carl Phillip Emmanuel Bach (or some claim it as BWV 1031 Johann Sebastian Bach) performed and arranged by Michel Rondeau under Common Creative Licence 3.0.As always:Homepage with maps, photos, transcripts and blog: www.historyofthegermans.comFacebook: @HOTGPod Twitter: @germanshistoryInstagram: history_of_the_germansReddit: u/historyofthegermansPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/HistoryofthegermansBibliography:Philippe Dillinger: Die HanseDie Hanse, Lebenswirklichkeit und Mythos, curated by Jürgen Bracker, Volker Henn and Rainer PostelRolf Hammel-Kieslow: Die HanseAnd special thanks for the translation of the Artlenburg Privileg to Dr. Jenny Benham. Was noch?

A keel-laying ceremony took place at Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku to officially mark the start of the revolutionary ship's physical construction, with Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku senior executives and teams in attendance. The keel laying, a longstanding maritime tradition, involved a 3,000-ton crane lifting a massive steel block that is placed into the new ship's building dock and on top of freshly minted coins, which represent the shipyard and cruise line. The coins are meant to bring luck during construction, and they will be retrieved and given to Icon's captain and crew before setting sail.Icon will set sail next year with the latest innovations and signature features Royal Caribbean's teams have imagined and reimagined in bold, new ways, including a shift toward cleaner energy. The first of three Royal Caribbean ships will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) – the cleanest fossil fuel available to cruise ships today. Combining LNG with a lineup of the cruise line's proven applications, such as shore power connection and waste heat recovery systems that repurpose excess energy to help power the ship's operations, Icon will be the next important step in Royal Caribbean's journey toward a clean-energy future.Signed, sealed, delivered… Celebrity Beyond. Exactly 20 years ago – on 5 April 2002 – the first two ships in the fleet were christened A-ROSA BELLA and A-ROSA DONNA in Rostock. A-ROSA celebrates the anniversary on board its ships with an A-ROSA United Event, where guests celebrate together with the crew until late at night. With the introduction of the A-ROSA brand, river cruises were offered for the first time to a younger clientele – detached from conventions, casual, active and full of highlights on board and ashore. The company has always remained true to this concept.Review of the christening of A-ROSA BELLA and A-ROSA DONNAAfter a construction period of only twelve months in the Neptun Yard Rostock, the two innovative river ships A-ROSA BELLA and A-ROSA DONNA received their official names during a double christening ceremony on 5th April 2002 in Rostock's city harbour.Godmother of A-ROSA BELLA was the 18-year-old The Honourable Anna Sterling, daughter of Lord Sterling of Plaistow, Chairman of P&O Princess Cruises. A-ROSA DONNA was christened by Anja Mager, 19 years old and an office management trainee with Seetours in Rostock. After an experience ship tour and reception in the coffee house on board, the guests were invited to the dinner “La BELLA DONNA” with live entertainment in the Nikolaikirche Rostock.Immediately after the christening, the two 860-ton ships left the Rostock overseas port expertly packed and secured on a barge for the Danube delta.History of A-ROSAThe A-ROSA brand was founded in 2000 by Seetours, the German offshoot of P&O Princess Cruises. Shortly after the deployment of the first two Danube ships, the company was taken over by Deutsche Seereederei in 2003 and the Danube fleet was expanded by two more ships. The Rhône was introduced as a new trade lane in 2005, on which A-ROSA STELLA and LUNA have been cruising ever since. In 2009, the first cruises on the Rhine started and the financial investor Waterland bought A-ROSA. After three classic Rhine ships, two Rhine-Main-Danube ships were put into service in 2012 and 2014 with the A-ROSA SILVA and FLORA. In 2013, Jörg Eichler came on board as managing director and introduced the premium all-inclusive fare and family cruises with Kids Club from 2014.With the Seine, the second French cruising area was added to the portfolio in 2017. After the takeover by the British financial investor Duke Street in 2018, the A-ROSA ALVA set sail on Portugal's Douro. In the 20th anniversary year of 2022, a total of twelve A-ROSA ships will be sailing in five European destinations. In May 2022, the A-ROSA SENA, the most innovative ship in the fleet, will join them, offering more space for the A-ROSA concept – spacious balcony cabins, a dedicated Family Area with Kids Club, several restaurants and bars as well as a particularly large wellness and fitness area. Thanks to a hybrid drive system with battery storage, it is the most climate-friendly cruise ship on Europe's rivers. A-ROSA also presented its new orientation from 2023, where even more quality and individuality will be offered with a PremiumPLUS range. And more...
