Slut in the City! This episode was recorded at Slickback Studios when I was in New York last month and in it, I discuss the latest breakthrough in HIV research, then read the Washington Post exposé on birth control misinformation. I compare what we learn through the article to my experience with birth control, getting off it, and my abortion. After, I discuss the life of Countess Elizabeth Bathory— who was a sadomasochist in Hungary during the 1600s. It's estimated she murdered 80 to 650 women in the pursuit of her kinks. ✨✨✨✨✨✨ Get Abortion Pills through aidaccess.org Huge thank you to Mike Coscarelli for having me at Slickback Studios in Brooklyn.

THANKS TO ANDREW FOR MAKING THE INTRO SONG. (soundcloud.com / andoryukesuta)@andoryukesuta Stay Alive is a 2006 American supernatural horror film directed by William Brent Bell, who co-wrote it with Matthew Peterman. The film was produced by Joseph McGinty Nichol, and released on March 24, 2006 in the United States. It was the first film released by Hollywood Pictures after five years of inactivity. After playing a video game titled Stay Alive, Loomis Crowley, his roommate Rex, and Rex's girlfriend Sarah are killed the same way as their characters were killed in the game. At Loomis' funeral, his friend Hutch meets Abigail – a friend of Sarah – and receives some of Loomis' possessions, including Stay Alive. Hutch, his girlfriend October, and her brother Phineus decide to play the game as a group. They are joined by Abigail and another friend, Swink, while Hutch's boss Miller plays online from his office. The game is set in a derelict mansion on Gerouge Plantation, but it only starts when the six players recite "The Prayer of Elizabeth," a request for "all who resist" to perish so that their blood can keep the Countess Elizabeth Bathory young. The players fight through a cemetery of evil ghost children, heading toward a mausoleum and tower. Miller is directed by the game to pick up a rose. October, a reader of occult literature, explains that undead spirits cannot move across wild roses. Separated from the others, Miller throws the rose to dispel the spirits of undead girls. Since he is now out of roses, a woman in a red dress, the Countess, kills Miller's character. Minutes later, the Countess appears in Miller's office and kills him by stabbing him with conjoined scissor blades like the ones in the game. Two detectives, Thibodeaux and King, question Hutch about the homicides. Hutch realizes that Loomis and Miller played Stay Alive right before they died, and that they died the same way as their game characters did. October researches Bathory and learns she would drain young women of blood, bathing in it to maintain her youth. Her weakness was mirrors because she could not stand to see herself growing old. Phineus decides to play alone, and despite quitting the game before his character can die, he is killed in real life when he is run over by a horse-drawn carriage. The survivors agree to stop playing Stay Alive. However, Detective King ignores Swink's warning and plays until his character dies. King is then killed in his car. Hutch and Abigail search Loomis' house and learn of the game developer's location: the real Gerouge Plantation. October has discovered that the real Countess Bathory was locked in the tower of her estate as punishment for her gruesome acts and vowed to return one day for revenge, which she is now able to do, as The Prayer of Elizabeth has resurrected her. The Countess can only be killed by driving three nails into her body to trap her soul. October sees the Countess in real life and tries to kill her but realizes that she is a ghost. She has her throat slit by the Countess. The three survivors realize that once the game has begun, it can play by itself. Swink stays in a van and plays the game on his laptop to distract Bathory, while Hutch and Abigail search Gerouge Plantation.
Quantum Leap: "Blood Moon" Gavin Mevius leaps from The Mixed Reviews and into a gothic horror homage from Quantum Leap's weird final season, where Dr. Sam Beckett seems to possibly leap into a classic vampire, maybe, definitely. And while dovetailing the sci-fi series with the supernatural is a fun idea, the tonal mishmash, deus ex butler/lightning, and odd references to a gender-swapped Countess Elizabeth Bathory make this a strangely boring misstep. Newlywed couple Stefan and Valerie are traveling across Europe by train, bound for Belgium then England, where they are to meet Stefan's mother. But when the train makes an unexpected stop, the couple decide to hang out for a while in a seaside hotel in the town of Ostend. Fortunately, It's winter, so they have their pick of suites, but why is Stefan so hesitant to call his Mother to tell her he and Valerie are married? And who is this new visitor, one Countess Elizabeth Bathory and her secretary Ilona? Well, whoever they are, they soon begin to fixate on the newlyweds. Meanwhile, a series of grisly murders of young women are taking place in neighboring towns, and on a leisurely trip to Bruges, Stefan shows a strange interest in a murder that's just taken place. What do Elizabeth and Ilona have to do with the murders, and why are they so determined to befriend Stefan and Valerie? And perhaps most mysterious, why do the hotel concierge and a retired policeman think Elizabeth looks exactly like someone they knew 40 years ago? Countess Elizabeth Bathory was a wealthy and powerful Hungarian noblewoman who reigned as supreme ruler throughout the early 1600s' in what now is present day Slovakia. In 1610 she was accused of gruesome acts of torture and serial murders beyond anyone's imagination. She was confined to her home, Castle Čachtice, where she remained until her death in 1614. Bathory is reputed to have killed at least six hundred victims, earning her a Guinness World Record for most prolific female murderer. Her actions resulted in a nickname of the "Blood Countess", but it's possible Bathory was not guilty of all the crimes that have been laid at her feet. Listen now for an intriguing story that may leave you with more questions than answers. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/patrick-conn/support

First up in our historic killers series is Countess Elizabeth Bathory. Even if you haven't heard of her, you're probably aware of the famous movie trope of the bloodthirsty vampire, or the sorceress who craves the blood of the young to keep herself beautiful; well here is the tale that inspired them. Elizabeth Bathory was born in 1560 and during her life amassed a count of around 650 murders, mutilations and torture combined. Let us know what you think of this case on twitter or Goodpods, we'd love to hear from you!
She may or may not have bathed in bathtubs of blood, she may or may not have been a vampire, and Anna may or definitely not died in the way she deserved. What we can say for sure about this historic lady is that 1. she's a monster, 2. no one should let teenagers control large masses of land that other people live on, and 3. people really knew how to make nicknames back then. Curious? Well you'll just have to listen in ghosts and ghouls.Sorry it's late :( were figuring out a new recording and upload schedule now that Alexa has a new job. Thank you for your patience

Since its premiere at Chicago's Cinepocalypse festival, Glenn Danzig's directorial debut Verotika has gone down in legend. Not a good legend, but then as Countess Elizabeth Bathory would tell you not all legends are good. This week on Pop Screen, Ewan Gleadow from Cult Following rejoins us to discuss Danzig's three-part magnum opus, based on stories from his own Verotik comics imprint. Along the way we discuss the first story's strange Los Francegeles setting, the challenges of writing Tales from the Crypt-style horror shorts, Danzig's comments at the film's premiere and the diminishing returns of Satanic shock tactics. We also discuss the real body horror that's just off-screen, namely whether Glenn Danzig can escape his fate of becoming more meme than man. We're going old school this week! Elizabeth Bathory is known TO THIS DAY as the most vicious female serial killer of all time. Also known as the original Dracula. Also known as the Blood Countess. She ran a school for girls and would bring in peasant girls to work for her in the late 1500s early 1600s but it was all a ruse for something much, much more sinister. Countess Elizabeth Bathory was named most prolific female murderer by Guinness World Records, thanks to her fondness for torturing and murdering her servants and other young women in the village surrounding her castle. One of our lovely listeners reached out to me to ask about my thoughts on Countess Elizabeth Bathory. In the spooky world, Elizabeth is one of the most famous people there is…or should I say infamous. I first heard the tale of Elizabeth when I was a teen, and instantly wanted to hear more. Could it be true that a noblewoman was actually a vampire like some of the stories say, or was she actually one of the worst mass murderers in history as many believe. Or maybe, was she a scapegoat as others suggest? Before we get started today, I do want to give you all a warning. In today’s episode we will be talking about torture. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to Episode 45…Elizabeth Bathory - Vampire, Mass Murderer, or Victim?
Countess Elizabeth Bathory has often been called the original vampire. Born in Transylvania in 1560, Countess Bathory has been called the most prolific female murderer in history. Bathory is most famous for allegedly bathing in the blood of virgins to preserve her beauty. Brew a cup of tea, light some candles and draw a bath. Folklore and stories of blood sucking creatures have been abounding for thousands of years but there is a true modern subculture of vampires. But what is a vampire? The term vampire was not created until the 19th century. And before that, vampire traits that defined modern day vampires were attributed to a variety of creatures such as ghosts, evil spirits, ghouls, demons, the devil and even Deities. One of the most famous was Vlad the Impaler. He ruled Romania from something 1456 to 1462. He was known for killing his enemies by impaling their heads on wooden stakes and then dining among his victims while dipping bread in their blood. Bram Stoker based his story of Dracula on Vlad. Bram Stoker has set the modern tone for how we generally interpret vampires and their stories. Another famous vampire is Countess Elizabeth Bathory, who over the course of her tenure of ruling this castle in Romania is rumored to have killed over six hundred and fifty peasant girls and not only drank their blood, but bathed in it because she thought it would keep her young. There is also a subculture of people who self-identify as vampires. And then there is this other group that do role playing in games and they play vampires. There are two main branches of vampirism which are referred to as sanguinarian and a psychic or pranic vampirism. If you are interested in more information about vampirism, we urge you to do your own research.

3D Audio Binaural Horror Based on the True Story of Countess Bathory, Mass Murderer Blood and Stone is a 3D binaural horror audio play from Marty Ross based on the true story of Countess Elizabeth Bathory. Bathory was perhaps one of the most prolific mass murderers of all time. She was a woman who tortured and killed over 600 young women for their blood. Too noble to be executed, in 1610 the ‘Bloody Lady of Cachtice' was bricked up in a set of rooms in her own castle in Slovakia. Why then should the young and beautiful Katya be at the castle door attracting the close attention of the gaoler and wanting a job looking after Countess Bathory? Is it revenge or some more ghostly visit from Bathory's past? And if she should help her escape…. Countess Elizabeth Bathory, history's infamous lesbian vampire who, centuries ago, bathed in the blood of virgins to preserve her youth, arrives from Transylvania to take over the Los Angeles castle of Count Dracula, her vampire husband. At the same time, the 3000 year-old Mummy of Hor-Shep-Sut, an evil Egyptian sorceress, comes to life in a museum and stalks off into the night.
Few books have had as seismic an impact on literature and pop culture at large as Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula. But some of Stoker’s key inspirations for Dracula came from notable, misunderstood, and overlooked women. From the infamous countess smeared by history to the social reformer fighting a devastating epidemic to the traveler who documented Transylvanian folklore: Bram Stoker's Dracula owes a substantial unpaid debt to the lives and work of forgotten female pioneers. Countess Elizabeth Bathory. Charlotte Thornley Stoker. Emily Gerard. These are their stories.
This is the story of Countess Elizabeth Bathory, one of the most vicious serial killers in history. Her sadistic ways ended up taking the lives of 650-1000 young woman in her village in Hungary in the 1500's.

So, we come to the end of another calendar year, wow, thank you for all the support and listening to us each week as we look at topics we feel deserve more attention. Now this episode we are doing a year in review and discuss what some of our favourites were, what we felt were some of the highlights and what was just downright funny. So strap in as we look back on a year full of robots, space travel, recycling, and the energetic joy of Katie Bouman, and that is just the start. We also go for a ride looking at the movies and tv series that have made us laugh, cry, scream, and sit in awe throughout the year. We discuss the controversy of crazy violence and insanity in movies such as Rambo – Last Blood. Yep some one has claimed it is… Nope you will need to listen in to know what is happening. Also we look at the year in games and take stock of what has happened. We laugh at some of it, get annoyed at some, and shake our heads in bewilderment at others. We recap what has been some of the most exciting and stand out moments for us this year in terms of topics. We also include some special shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and events for the end of the year. So as the year draws to a close and the dawn of a new one creeps over the horizon we once more ask you to take care of yourselves, look out for each other, and stay hydrated. 2019 in Science - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_in_science2019 in Movies, TV & Anime - https://www.empireonline.com/movies/features/biggest-movie-news-2019/- https://www.empireonline.com/movies/features/best-movies-2019/- https://www.empireonline.com/movies/features/best-tv-2019/2019 in Gaming - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_in_video_gamingOther topics discussed Kirigami Robots- https://www.inverse.com/article/61662-self-folding-kirigami-robotsBoston Dynamics- https://www.bostondynamics.com/New Horizons (interplanetary space probe that was launched as a part of NASA's New Frontiers program.)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_HorizonsSpaceX Dragon (reusable cargo spacecraft developed by SpaceX, an American private space transportation company.)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpaceX_DragonMaking breathable Oxygen using comets- https://www.caltech.edu/about/news/comet-inspires-chemistry-making-breathable-oxygen-marsE-Scooters are not green enough- https://phys.org/news/2019-08-e-scooters-green-options.htmlTextile Recycling - https://www.abc.net.au/news/science/2019-06-15/textile-recycling-fashion-old-clothes-waste/11197904Black Hole image makes history- https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/chandra/news/black-hole-image-makes-history- https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-47873592Katie Bouman: American computer scientist working in the field of computer imagery. Today we have two very interesting ladies who I've been wanting to cover for a while now. Our murderess of the day is known as the Female Dracula, none other than the Countess Elizabeth Bathory. Our mythology is a woman who's considered to be just as bloody, the legend of Bloody Mary. Yes, I did pair them up for the sake of that pun. Let me have my fun!
This week, Demetria takes us through the story of Countess Elizabeth Bathory, a prolific serial killer who used her noble status to murder peasant girls at her whim.
Countess Elizabeth BáthoryCountess Elizabeth Báthory de Ecsed (Hungarian: Báthory Erzsébet, Slovak: Alžbeta Bátoriová ; 7 August 1560 – 21 August 1614)[2] was a Hungarian noblewoman and serial killer from the noble family of Báthory, who owned land in the Kingdom of Hungary (now Hungary, Slovakia and Romania). She has been labeled by Guinness World Records as the most prolific female murderer,[3] though the precise number of her victims is debated. Báthory and four collaborators were accused of torturing and killing hundreds of young women between 1585 and 1609.[4] The highest number of victims cited during Báthory's trial was 650. However, this number comes from the claim by a serving girl named Susannah that Jakab Szilvássy, Countess Báthory's court official, had seen the figure in one of Báthory's private books. The book was never revealed, and Szilvássy never mentioned it in his testimony.[5] Despite the evidence against Elizabeth, her family's influence kept her from facing trial. She was imprisoned in December 1610 within Čachtice Castle, in Upper Hungary (now Slovakia), and held in solitary confinement in a windowless room until her death four years later. The stories of her sadistic serial murders are verified by the testimony of more than 300 witnesses and survivors as well as physical evidence and the presence of horribly mutilated dead, dying and imprisoned girls found at the time of her arrest. Stories describing her vampire-like tendencies (most famously the tale that she bathed in the blood of virgins to retain her youth) were generally recorded years after her death, and are considered unreliable. Her story quickly became part of national folklore, and her infamy persists to this day. She is often compared to Vlad the Impaler of Wallachia (on whom the fictional Count Dracula is partly based); some insist she inspired Bram Stoker's Dracula (1897), though there is no evidence to support this hypothesis. Nicknames and literary epithets attributed to her include The Blood Countess and Countess Dracula.

Countess Elizabeth Bathory died in 1614 but the legends surrounding her life and crimes continue to live and breathe today. Perhaps better known as "The Blood Countess" today, she is possibly one of the most prolific serial killers to exist in history. Or was she a powerful woman who was taken down by those around who for political and financial gain? The facts are more terrifying than the myths in this case, guys. Drain your bath tub, grab one of your castle staff members and get ready for some coagulation because Elizabeth is bloody terrifying. Today is all about hardcore fangirling. On January 11, 2019, Kris and Kym got to meet Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark of the mega-popular podcast My Favorite Murder. Today's episode pays true tribute to the MFM ladies by first recounting the meet and greet highlights and then telling stories of creep, horror, murder, and plague from Hungary and Scotland. Kym recounts the bloody history of the most prolific female serial killer, Countess Elizabeth Bathory, of Slovakia. Kris talks about going underground in Edinburgh, walking the halls of the enclosed Mary King's Close where many people lived and worked in darkness...and almost half of the population died of the plague in the 1600s.

Join us this week on Death by Champagne, the podcast here to keep you up at night, as we cover a personal favorite topic; VAMPIRES! Mackenzie covers a handful of origin stories and possible real life illnesses that could explain the existence of vampires and Olivia dives deep into Vampires within film and their adaptation throughout the years, along with the twisted tale of Countess Elizabeth Bathory. This episode is actually pretty light hearted and fun, as usual we warn that foul language is used and Mackenzie's tale gest into some gross body horror discussions.
Countess Elizabeth Bathory is considered by many historians to be the most prolific female serial killer in history. Stories persist of the vicious torture and brutal murder of hundreds of young girls in 16th century Hungary. But was she really guilty, or was she the victim of a conspiracy of wealthy and powerful people out to get her? Based on the true story of Countess Elizabeth Bathory, perhaps one of the most prolific mass murderers of all time. She was a woman who tortured and killed over 600 young women for their blood. Too noble to be executed, in 1610 the ‘Bloody Lady of Cachtice’ was bricked up in a set of rooms in her own castle in Slovakia. Why then should the young and beautiful Katya be at the castle door attracting the close attention of the gaoler and wanting a job looking after Countess? Is it revenge or some more ghostly visit from Bathory’s past? And if she should help her escape….
