We conclude our "In The March of Madness" month with a look at the 2008 M Night Shayamalan film The Happening. In this film a science teacher (Mark Wahlberg), his wife (Zoey Deschanel), and a young girl struggle to survive a sudden plague that causes those infected to commit suicide. This one was a tough one because, while the movie does not necessarily deal with anyone going insane, the movie will certainly drive you nuts trying to make sense of it all which means, it's a perfect candidate for one of our "Drink 'til it's good" episodes as well. This time, we will not just break down the film for you...we're gonna act it out...the 3GD way!

Send us a textWe're looking back at a Christmas movie that even our snarky GenX personalities cannot diminish. Quotable, hilarious, and tolerantly sappy, Will Ferrel's portrayal as the 6'3" elf alone to his own devices in the Big Apple is a favorite among the Grumpy Nostalgia offices. Plus Jimmy Caan. Plus Peter Dinklage. Plus the insufferably cute Zoey Deschanel. Grab your syrup and join us.
What happens when you pair insightful retrospectives with a passion for cinematic critiques? Join us as Kyle Clifford returns for an engrossing episode that revisits some of our best discussions, from "King Kong vs. Godzilla" to "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes." We analyze the on-screen chemistry between Johnson and Anna Kendrick, debate unconventional film dynamics, and even discuss the intriguing career trajectories of actors like Glenn Powell, who shines in Netflix's "Hitman."From horror to comedy, we share our takes on recent trends and industry shifts. Together, we critique biopics, reminisce about theater experiences, and even weigh in on the buzz around Robert Downey Jr.'s surprising casting as Dr. Doom. This week we finally re-watch 500 Days of Summer, Directed by Mark Webb. 500 Days of Summer is the story of Tom Hansen played by Joseph Gordon Levitt and Summer Finn played by Zoey Deschanel. The peculiar way in which this story is told makes it hard to give a lead in without totally spoiling the film. This story spans 500 days… 500 days in which Tom Hansen is in love with Summer Finn, but the story is not told in sequential order, we jump in and out of these 500 days, slowly piecing together this story like a jig-saw puzzle. At times we peek in on a horrible argument, other times we jump backward in time to a beautiful date night at the movies. Slowly as we the audience step back… and back again… we get a full picture of the love, the loss, the rebirth of these two individuals Tom Hansen and Summer Finn, as we ultimately learn the story… of 500 Days of Summer…See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Amanda and Wade get (kind of) melancholy as they discuss the 2005 indie movie “Winter Passing” starring Zoey Deschanel. The two hosts discuss their love of movies with flawed characters, and it gets a little deep. But then they talk about Will Ferrell's singing, so they don't stay very deep. Wade reveals his slightly embarrassing love of buses and typewriters while Amanda reveals her not at all embarrassing appreciation for the sexiness of Ed Harris despite all the ways makeup and costume designers try to hide it. Alright, we have a holiday treat for all of our listening fans out there! This week we are doing another full length episode on a movie that was voted on by our patrons, Elf, starring Will Ferrell and Zoey Deschanel. This is a holiday movie that actually delivers on at least some of its themes and messages unlike the Polar Express, which we watched last week. In this episode we really dig deep into Buddy’s character and we work to figure out why he’s so child-like and how that quality affects the other characters around him in the film. Listen in to hear our take on the character, and what we can all learn from him to possibly improve our own emotional experiences about life. As we all know one of the most important lessons of this film is that we must beware the antics of Santa imposters!

Warning: This episode does discuss suicide. If you're feeling any kind of despair or hopelessness, help is available. Call 1-800-273-8255 and talk to someone. You can't listen to our fine show if you're dead - so we don't want that! SOLVED - the mystery of the unknown cemetery has been solved. It's the Trinity Church Cemetery in the Washington Heights neighborhood of NYC. Thanks to patron Donald Mundis for helping figure that out! Yes - this episode is being released out of sequence because everyone involved loves Halloween way too much and honestly it seemed off-brand to wait when it would be so easy to just give the people what they need. So... turn out the lights, get under your blanket, and listen to Jeb, Blake and return guest Alex French talk you through the super-creepy extravaganza that is Haunted Castles! Remember - we're on the lookout for more information about this cemetery shooting location. Let us know if you find anything. Post in the comments, or send an email to Blake@monstertalk.org. (Note - we've pretty conclusively removed Los Angeles as a possibility so are focusing on San Francisco and New York for now.) The creepy ghost reminds us of a creepy villain. When you care enough about the role to put on makeup - but not quite enough to shave... Parts of the episode reminded Jeb of Darby O'Gill. On this episode of DID YOU EVEN WATCH IT? we discuss the 2008 comedy 'YES MAN'DID YOU EVEN WATCH IT? is a PODCAST by three brothers and a best Mate, where we talk about one of our biggest passions, movies. In particular, movies that are seen by critics and/or fans as flops/failures/average that we enjoyed or simply movies that we don't think have gotten the notoriety or praise that they deserve. Each week we will pick a different movie to discuss and talk about things we love about the movie, the actors, favourite scenes, quotes, behind the scenes trivia and even parts of the movies that didn't make sense or could have been done better. Maybe we find listeners that agree with us and maybe even change people's minds on some movies or think we are crazy for loving these movies.

Christian “Batman” Baltazar and Alejandro “also Batman” Middleton watch their all time favorite rom-com, She’s Out of My League (2010), starring Jay Baruchel, Alice Eve, TJ Miller, and Krysten Ritter. The Corrections Department has a few notes. Christian and Alejandro rate each other’s looks and personalities. The boys also love compliments from strangers. Alejandro has a strangely specific scenario where he confuses Zoey Deschanel with Kristen Ritter and has a list of women he wants to kiss, like Hall and Oates, not in a weird way though... it’s cool... like Hall and Oates.
2 years after Shyamalan's reality bending modern-day fairy-tale flopped with audiences and critics alike--he decided to return to his thriller roots--this time to put his own spin on a 1950's sci-fi flick. Not only did he return to form but he also ventured into R rated territory making this his one and only, no children under 17 film. Touting an all-star cast headlined by Mark Wahlberg and Zoey Deschanel this promised to be Shyamalan's bounce back into commercial acclaim...except it wasn't. Considered one of the worst films of all time--this sunk the Academy Award nominated director even lower among peers and fans. But that was 11 years ago. Has The Happening actually aged well and could this be a forgotten hair-raising piece of horror? Join Corbin and Allen as they discuss The Happening to find out! Join the discussion! Question after the show: Is the The Happening so bad it's good? Why or why not? This week, the idiots discuss their feelings about waiting in lines and Trent Reznor. Ali's mind is blown when he discovers that Zoey Deschanel was married to Ben Gibbard. They end the podcast on God Break Down the Door by Nine Inch Nails.
WHY HELLO THERE! Quirky, eccentric, beautiful, Kelsy Waack does Jess Day better than Zoey Deschanel. Her tenacity, spontaneity, and awkward charisma immediately fill any room she inhabits. Although she's spent more time on the docks than indoors, Kelsy has always been an extremely accomplished student. However, the coupling of a passion for sailing and a proclivity for mathematics was not enough to keep this ebullient and precocious lass from exploring the basements of adolescence. A talent for narrowly keeping herself out of both trouble, and harms way, saw this young woman into Jacksonville University and onto the Sailing Team. Having deftly maneuvered around some hurdles in the road, she’s soon to secure her desired position at an actuarial firm. Far-and-away the most put together and polished disaster case that I have ever met, Kelsy is a force to be reckoned with. Can Mercy accurately be described as a "Discount knock off Zoey Deschanel"? Also, is that considered a compliment - or not? We talk about board game rules and how inadequately most people teach others how to play them. Adding to the madness is a house in shambles due to an upcoming garage sale, and Good Cat decides to horn in on the podcast process.
