We present our The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie review! The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is a 2024 American animated science fiction comedy film produced by Warner Bros. Animation. Directed by Pete Browngardt in his feature directorial debut, it is the first fully-animated and theatrically released film in the Looney Tunes franchise based on entirely original material. The film is spun-off from the Looney Tunes Cartoons series developed by Browngardt and features the voices of Eric Bauza, Candi Milo, and Peter MacNicol. The film follows Daffy Duck and Porky Pig as they try to save Earth from an alien scheme. In 2019, while working on Looney Tunes Cartoons, Browngardt was asked if he had any ideas for a new Looney Tunes feature film. Browngardt eventually settled on the premise of a "sci-fi B-movie from the '50s," starring Daffy and Porky. He took inspiration from features of the era and shorts starring the cartoon duo. Warner Bros. Animation, alongside several vendors, provided the animation for the film, of which its character designs were modelled after the style of animator Bob Clampett and Tex Avery. Joshua Moshier, who previously worked on Looney Tunes Cartoons, composed the film's score.Upon its announcement in 2021, The Day the Earth Blew Up was originally set to be released on HBO Max and the "ACME Night" block on Cartoon Network. The film however premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 11, 2024 and had a limited release in the United States on December 13, 2024 by Ketchup Entertainment, before expanding wide on March 14, 2025. The film received positive reviews from critics, and has grossed $5.6 million worldwide against a budget of $15 million.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Welcome to another episode of The Video Store Podcast. Are you ready for some recommendations? This week, I am focusing on films that are perfect for anyone looking for some Dungeons & Dragons inspiration. I have got four fantastic picks: "Hawk the Slayer" (1980), "Dragonslayer" (1981), "The Sword and the Sorcerer" (1982), and "The Dungeonmaster" (1984).First up is "Hawk the Slayer." This 1980 fantasy film directed by Terry Marcel is a great watch for those who enjoy classic sword and sorcery adventures. The story follows Hawk, played by John Terry, on his quest to defeat the evil Voltan, portrayed by Jack Palance. The film stands out for its creative use of special effects, particularly for its time. It's a cult favorite and a prime example of low-budget fantasy done right. Thanks for reading Video Store Podcast! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support our work.Next, we have "Dragonslayer" from 1981. Directed by Matthew Robbins, this movie features groundbreaking special effects that earned it an Academy Award nomination. The story revolves around a young sorcerer's apprentice, played by Peter MacNicol, who sets out to slay a dragon. The dragon, Vermithrax Pejorative, remains one of the most impressive and realistic dragons ever put to film. The combination of practical effects and CGI was ahead of its time, and it's one of my favorite fantasy movies."The Sword and the Sorcerer," released in 1982 and directed by Albert Pyun, is another gem. Lee Horsley stars as Talon, a mercenary with an AMAZING three-bladed sword on a mission to rescue a princess and reclaim his kingdom. This film has some action-packed sequences and impressive low-budget practical effects. Lastly, we have "The Dungeonmaster" from 1984. Directed by several directors, including Charles Band and Dave Allen, this anthology-style film follows Paul, a computer programmer who must face various challenges set by the evil Mestema, played by Richard Moll. The film's blend of fantasy and sci-fi elements makes it unique. Each segment of Paul's journey showcases different styles and imaginative scenarios that keeps it fresh. These four films offer a great mix of fantasy adventure, imaginative storytelling, and unique special effects. They're perfect for anyone looking to get inspired for their next Dungeons & Dragons campaign. So, grab some popcorn, sit back, and enjoy these classic fantasy films. Then go roll some dice.Subscribe to the Video Store Podcast* The Video Store Podcast* Apple Podcast* RSS This is a public episode. Cartoon Brew contributor and animator Vincent Alexander constructed a piece back in April around the most influential filmmakers and examples of their work that you could trace back to the guys behind the Looney Tunes. In this episode, I'm joined by Vincent and we touch upon a few of those directors and their films. Some may blow you away! Looney Tunes in the News! The Day the World Blew UP! A Looney Tunes Movie made it's WORLD PREMIERE AT ANNECY! In the world of animation, few names evoke as much nostalgia and admiration as the Looney Tunes. With iconic characters like Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, these beloved cartoons have entertained audiences for generations. The recent premiere of 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' at the Annecy Animation Festival has reignited interest in these classic characters, showcasing their enduring appeal in a modern context. A Stellar Premiere at Annecy The unveiling of 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' at the Annecy Animation Festival was nothing short of spectacular, drawing a crowd that was visibly moved by the charm and wit of the Looney Tunes legacy. Under the directorial guidance of Pete Browngardt, and brought to life by the talented voice work of Eric Bauza as both Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, Candi Milo as Petunia, Fred Tatascior as Farmer Jim and Ghostbusters 2 actor Peter MacNicol as The Invader; this feature-length adventure captured the hearts of those in attendance. The event itself was a vibrant celebration of animation, with 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' standing out as a highlight of the festival. From the moment the lights dimmed and the first scene rolled, the audience was immersed in a world filled with laughter, nostalgia, and the unmistakable zaniness of the Looney Tunes universe. Each joke landed with precision, eliciting hearty laughs, while the emotional beats of the story brought the crowd on a rollercoaster of feelings. The film's cleverly crafted narrative and beautifully executed 2D animation showcased the enormous effort and passion poured into its creation by Browngardt and his team. As Daffy and Porky navigated through their hilarious and often precarious journey to save Earth, the connection between the characters and the audience was palpable. The inclusion of scenes detailing the duo's upbringing and their comedic struggles with employment added layers to their personas, enriching the viewer's experience. Moreover, the portrayal of their friendship and resilience against the backdrop of an alien threat highlighted the timeless appeal of these characters, making every moment on screen feel both fresh and familiar. The Annecy premiere served as a powerful reminder of the magic that the Looney Tunes can bring to the big screen. It was a night where animation enthusiasts, critics, and newcomers alike were united in their appreciation for a franchise that continues to evolve while staying true to the heart and humor that has defined it for generations. A Return to Form for Looney Tunes In an era where digital animation dominates, 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' emerges as a beacon of classic animation prowess, masterfully marrying the age-old antics of Looney Tunes with contemporary storytelling finesse. This film is not merely a nod to the golden age of Warner Bros animation but a robust reaffirmation of its timeless appeal and relevance. By weaving a narrative that is as emotionally engaging as it is uproariously funny, it marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Looney Tunes, showcasing the adaptability and enduring charm of its characters. The genius of 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' lies in its ability to harness the quintessential elements that made Looney Tunes a household name—dynamic slapstick humor, sharp wit, and a knack for chaos—while infusing them with a modern sensibility that appeals to today's audiences. Daffy Duck's irreverent humor and Porky Pig's endearing stutter are complemented by a storyline that pits them against challenges that are both fantastical and surprisingly relatable, ensuring that the humor resonates on multiple levels. The movie excels in leveraging the rich history of its characters, providing them with a depth that adds a new layer of enjoyment for fans and newcomers alike. The exploration of Daffy and Porky's backstories and personal growth throughout their adventure adds a layer of complexity to their characters, making their triumphs all the more satisfying. By striking an ideal balance between the slapstick comedy that fans expect and the narrative depth that modern audiences crave, 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' revitalizes the Looney Tunes brand. It demonstrates the potential for these iconic characters to grow and thrive in the contemporary media landscape, ensuring that their antics will continue to entertain and inspire laughter for generations to come. This film does more than just revisit the past; it propels the beloved antics of Looney Tunes into the future, proving that some classics only get better with time. The Art of Blending Humor and Heart 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' masterfully intertwines the laugh-out-loud humor characteristic of the Looney Tunes with deeply touching moments, creating a rich cinematic tapestry that speaks to a wide array of emotions. The filmmakers ingeniously use the comedic escapades of Daffy Duck and Porky Pig not just as a vehicle for humor, but also as a means to explore themes of friendship, resilience, and determination. This dual approach ensures that the audience is not only entertained by the antics on screen but also emotionally invested in the characters' journeys. At its core, this film is a testament to the complexity of the Looney Tunes characters, who are capable of eliciting both belly laughs and tender moments within the span of a single scene. The dynamic between Porky Pig and Petunia Pig, for example, offers a glimpse into the more nuanced aspects of the characters' lives, enriching the narrative and providing a counterpoint to the high-energy comedic sequences. This delicate balance between humor and heart is what sets 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' apart, making it not just a comedy, but a story with soul. The effectiveness of this blend is further highlighted by the movie's animation style, which employs expressive character animations and vibrant visuals to enhance both the comedic and emotional impact of the story. By doing so, the film pays homage to the legacy of Looney Tunes animation while also pushing the boundaries of how these beloved characters can connect with contemporary audiences. Through its artful combination of humor and heart, 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' invites viewers to laugh, empathize, and perhaps even see a bit of themselves in the animated antics of Daffy, Porky, and the rest of the Looney Tunes gang. Critical Acclaim and Audience Reception Upon its unveiling, 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' quickly captivated critics and moviegoers, securing its place as a standout addition to the Looney Tunes' storied legacy. Critics have lauded the film for its inventive storytelling, seamless blend of classic and modern comedic elements, and its ability to weave heartfelt moments amidst uproarious laughter. The animation's quality, vibrant and expressive, received particular acclaim, highlighting the skill and dedication of the artists behind this project. Audience reactions mirrored this enthusiasm, with many expressing delight at seeing their favorite characters on the big screen in a narrative that felt both fresh and faithful to the essence of Looney Tunes. Viewers of all ages found themselves enchanted by the dynamic duo of Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, whose adventures brought not only nostalgia but also a sense of novelty that resonated with contemporary sensibilities. Social media buzzed with positive feedback, from tweets praising specific comedic sequences to Instagram stories capturing the joyous atmosphere of theater screenings. This wave of approval underscores the film's universal appeal and its success in reaching a broad demographic, from lifelong fans of Looney Tunes to a new generation experiencing the antics of these characters for the first time. The palpable excitement and commendations from both critics and audiences underscore the film's impact, reinforcing its status not merely as a successful animation but as a significant cultural event. This reception is a testament to the movie's quality and its role in the ongoing legacy of Looney Tunes, affirming that the charm and wit of these characters remain as vibrant and compelling as ever. The Implications for Future Looney Tunes Projects The enthusiastic reception of 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' heralds a potentially wide future for Looney Tunes, showcasing their potential to captivate modern audiences while retaining the essence that has made these characters beloved for decades. This film's success could pave the way for Warner Bros. to reassess their locked away film, Coyote Vs. Acme which is a live action/animation hybrid film starring Wile E. Coyote and John Cena. This film has had it's share of publicity and with a large push from 'Earth' it's possible the film could see the light of day. The industry's response and the public's embrace of this latest offering reinforce the idea that there's a keen appetite for content that marries nostalgia with innovation. As we look ahead, the question isn't whether there will be more Looney Tunes projects but rather how these characters will evolve to meet the expectations of a new generation while delighting long-time fans. The possibilities are as limitless as the imaginations of those at the helm of future projects, suggesting that the legacy of Looney Tunes is not only secure but set to soar to new heights. I'm tired and lazy so here's the first few paragraphs of the movie from Wikipedia. Baby Geniuses is a 1999 American family comedy film directed by Bob Clark and written by Clark and Greg Michael, from a story by Clark, Steven Paul, Francisca Matos, and Robert Grasmere. It stars Kathleen Turner, Christopher Lloyd, Kim Cattrall, Peter MacNicol, and Ruby Dee. The film has the distinction of being the first full-length feature to use computer-generated imagery for the synthesis of human visual speech. 2D warping techniques were used to digitally animate the mouth viseme shapes of the babies which were originally shot with their mouths closed. The viseme shapes were sampled from syllables uttered by the babies on the set. Baby Geniuses was almost universally panned by critics, who lambasted its acting, humor, special effects, writing, and directing, but it grossed $36.5 million worldwide against a production budget of $12 million. In 2004, it was followed by a sequel, Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2, which was a box office bomb, and received even worse critical reviews, receiving a nomination for Worst Picture at the 25th Golden Raspberry Awards. throwbacktheaterpodcast@gmail.com

E in questi casi, chi chiamerete? Ghostbusters! Today, I am happy to welcome as my guest, filmmaker and podcaster Donald McKinney, III, who was my very first guest on Pop Art and who showed me the ropes. Donald has chosen as his film the animated The Flight of Dragons, while I have chosen the more SFX spectacular Dragonslayer, both films about young people who have to battle a dragon. And in this episode, we answer such questions as: What is it about dragons anyway? What are our favorite dragons? Nudity in a Disney film? What was it about the sexualization of teens in the 70s and 80s? Why was Flight of Dragons banned on Israeli TV? What does "Vermithrax Pejorative" translate as? What are the differences between the book The Dragon and the George and the film Flight of Dragons? What is the connection of Dragonslayer to the Star War series? What is a George? How did Peter MacNicol get this role? In this episode, we launch into our first theme block of the year placing our focus onto Fantasy films. Which, as Jason is keen to add, includes a bit of specific focus on medieval style fantasy. It all kicks off with Jason's pick as we check out the influential Dragonslayer from 1981. Dustin struggles to overcome his bias for Peter MacNicol as Janosz in Ghostbusters II. Jason plants his flag on the hill declaring Vermithrax Perjorative as the all time greatest dragon ever put to film. But before all that we do our usual whirlwind overview of the genre and highlight some iconic fantasy flicks across the decades. And so much more! This month we ring in the New Year by spraying GHOSTBUSTERS 2 with a copious amount of positively charged slime! Join us as we defend the often dismissed but more than worthy sequel that struggled to stay afloat in a typhoon of blockbuster sequels. We'll compare it to more recent series entries, extol the genius of Peter MacNicol and provide a PSA on the dangers of Hardees' deadly Ghostblasters toy. So warm up the french bread pizza and straighten your Slinky as we cross the streams and vaporize all GB2 critics from this dimension!
We are closing the year by talking about Ghostbusters 2! Join us and hear us discuss whether this movie can hold the candle to the 1984 original, if Vigo is a better villain than Gozer, whether the chemistry between the boys is still there and if the comedy lands the way it did. We also discuss the thematic relevance of the brand, the logistics of having the Statue of Liberty become a Godzilla for one hour, argue over Peter MacNicol's vibe and openly disagree about one particular joke! We're watching another Mel Brooks movie. This time it's the no-so-classic "Dracula: Dead and Loving It" from 1995. It's a fun little movie with a lot of the cast of "Robin Hood: Men In Tights" but with only like, half the laughs. But it's all ok because Leslie Nielsen is there and that's always a treat. We pair the movie with Vampire Pinot Noir. It's the rare occasion where we found a wine first and then divined the movie based on the wine label. The wine? Delicious.Tomatometer: 11%Movie Sync Notes: We rented the movie on Amazon Prime Video because it's just easier. We start "Dracula: Dead and Loving It" 12:59 into the pod, and push play on part two 1:13:33 into the pod.
This week on Myopia Movies, in honor of Tim Burton's Addams Family reboot, we watched the classic sequel to the classic 1990s movie, the Addams Family Values! Join us as we talk about the hilarious cast and a trip to summer camp! How will Addams Family Values hold up? Host: Nic Panel: Jon and Daniel Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld Starring: Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, Joan Cusack, Christina Ricci, Carol Kane, Jimmy Workman, David Krumholtz, Peter MacNicol, Peter MacNicol, Christine Baranski
It's time to turn the Thanksgiving tables on the colonizers, practice your tango, and think about Debbie's needs as we get all together ooky with Barry Sonnenfeld's Addams Family Values (1993). Should we give the incomparable Joan Cusack most of the credit for making this sequel better than the original? Or does it go to the incredibly precocious Christina Ricci, who might be the best child star of her generation? Are Angelica Huston and Raul Julia the ultimate relationship goals on-screen couple? And is Uncle Fester's O face in this movie even creepier than Dan Ackroyd's in Ghostbusters? All we know it that we want to find the kind of loving acceptance the Addams Family bestows so easily.
Happy Halloween, everyone! On this dim, sanguinary Night of Fright, in the year of our gored 2022, Chris does the unthinkable and voluntarily hosts a vampire movie episode. But this isn't just any vampire movie—in fact, according to Wikipedia, it's "currently the latest film" directed by 96-year-old comedy icon Mel Brooks! That's right, it's Leslie Nielsen vehicle Dracula: Dead and Loving It, co-starring Peter MacNicol, Amy Yasbeck, Steven Weber, and Mel himself. Prepare yourselves, folks, because few things are as spooooooky as an unfunny comedy!
In the thirty-first episode of Season 7 (Fantastical Realities) Kyle is joined by fellow cinephile Derek Paranay and fellow podcaster Zax Protzmann to discuss the mixed bag of impressive special effects and a typical hero's journey narrative that makes up Matthew Robbins' look at dark ages magic, religion, and superstition in Dragonslayer (1981).
HALLOWEEN SPECIAL! Josh and Ryan pack their bags for Transylvania to hunt Dracula: the one, the only, the terrifying and... hilarious? Join us for this week's romp in the later catalog of Mel Brooks where we explore the tropes, the themes and the comedy of the world's most famous vampire. Do you feel unusually uptight? Are you feeling suffocated by Victorian repressiveness? Don't try an enema. Just listen to this episode! "Dracula Dead and Loving It" was released in 1995 and stars Leslie Nielsen, Mel Brooks, Amy Yasbeck and Peter MacNicol

Baby Geniuses is a 1999 American family comedy film directed by Bob Clark and written by Bob Clark and Greg Michael and starring Kathleen Turner, Christopher Lloyd, Kim Cattrall, and Peter MacNicol. The film grossed over $36 million worldwide on a $12 million budget. In 2004, it was followed by a sequel, Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2, which was a box office bomb, and received reviews even more critical than the first film, getting nominated for Worst Picture at the 25th Golden Raspberry Awards. This...was an experience for all of us. Nate picked this one as he enjoyed the film during childhood. Does it hold up today? Here for the Reels is a part of the SnackStudios podcast network. Tread Perilously's Women First month concludes with an episode Ally McBeal called "Story of Love." When Ally kicks another woman while she's down, she ends up defending her in court on a previous assault case. The eerie parallels to her own dilemma concerning sometimes client George Madison (guest star John Ritter) and Elaine are purely coincidental. Meanwhile, Cage is training his frog, Stefan, for the upcoming regionals. But when he ends up flushed down the toilet, it is up to the rest of the office to both let Cage know and help him grieve the sudden amphibious loss. But is this story meant to be as whimsical and funny as Ally's plot? Erik and Justin finally watch an episode of Ally McBeal and come away with some surprising takes. The coward David E. Kelly is once again tried for his crimes. Peter MacNicol proves a favorite. Justin notes the way Ally McBeal disappeared from television history. Erik recalls the years he stopped watching TV. The brief moment of Natasha Gregson Wagner gets examined, as does the phenomenon of "Hooked on a Feeling." The pair also debate the merits of Courtney Thorne-Smith's presence in film and television and Bing Crosby emerges as a villain.
In this episode we answer the question of “Who are you gonna call? “It's all about Ghostbusters in this two-part episode. In honor of the recent passing of the great Ivan Reitman (we recorded this on 2/21/22) we dive deep into a movie series and franchise that left an impact on all of us, and we couldn't do it with big time Ghostbuster's fan and returning guest Josh Bernhard. In this first part we talk about our first memories with Ghostbusters and talk about the first two movies, with a little Real Ghostbusters thrown in here and there. If you are a fan of this show you should also check out Josh's podcast “Trash Compactor: A Stare Wars podcast” https://www.trashcompod.com/ 00:00 James introduces the show and we move into talking about when we all first were introduced to Ghostbusters. 10:00 Josh talks about the unique tone of the first Ghostbusters movie. 15:17 We talk about the grounded story telling of Ghostbusters and move into thoughts about the first Ghostbusters movie. 21:00 We start talking about Bill Murray's role in making Ghostbusters what it is and how it would have been different then if Belushi had been a part of it, the subtle things that Harold Ramis does as Egon, 28:30 We talk about the importance of New York as a character in the movie, Josh notes how the movie could be seen as a metaphor for cleaning up the city during the era the movie was made and we come back to Venkman being the person who helps the Ghostbusters navigate New York. 35: James brings up how quoting Ghostbusters brought him and Chris together as friends, this leads us to talking about how masterful the actors were at improving the most memorable lines in the movie, we then just start quoting Ghostbusters. 39:31 We talk about the Stay Puff Marshmallow man. 43:28 We move into talking about Ghostbusters 2 start with our impressions and thoughts on how we feel about the movie today. 51:41 We talk about the character growth of each character between the two movies. 56:33 We talk about the role Rick Moranis plays in both Ghostbusters and once again start quoting Ghostbusters, we move into talk about Annie Potts also and about The Real Ghostbusters again. 1:00:55 We talk about Vigo and the great comedy acting of Peter MacNicol. 1:04:50 Josh talks about how a behind the scenes shot of the museum model used in Ghostbusters 2 got him inspired about film making, it got Chris into Jackie Wilson, started James thinking about canon and continuity. Then we start talking about The Real Ghostbusters again.

No, it's not the one with DeNiro and Pacino. Nor is it the Sandra Bullock/Melissa McCarthy cop comedy. This week, the guys bring in first-time guest and independent filmmaker Britany Sparrow to discuss the bizarre Burt Reynolds action (?) movie Heat. This movie has everything: it's written by acclaimed screenwriter William Goldman (!) adapted from a William Goldman novel (!!!), Burt says every horrible creepy insult in the first ten minutes of it, the film inexplicably becomes The Karate Kid halfway through and that's just the tip of the iceberg! Pick up your proton packs and watch out for that moody slime, it's time to get the band back together for the campy cash grab that is Ghostbusters II. Who else has a soft spot for sequels? Was there no such thing as workplace harassment training in 1989? (No need to answer that, we know there wasn't.) Is there any scene that Peter MacNicol does not steal? (No need to answer that one either.) How did everyone forget that the city was attacked by a giant supernatural marshmallow man five years before this? The only thing we make sure you know in this ep is that we're all New Yorkers. Read Randall's full episode notes at yourenofun.com.And follow us on Instagram , Facebook and Twitter.

" In the Dark Ages, Magic was a weapon. Love was a mystery. Adventure was everywhere... And Dragons were real. " In this episode we discuss the 1981 fantasy adventure 'Dragonslayer' starring Peter MacNicol and Caitlin Clarke. Directed by Matthew Robbins.
Hello Bombers! It's time to celebrate the one year anniversary of the Not A Bomb podcast. This week, Brad and Troy discuss Ghostbusters 2, which was actually the catalyst for the podcast. Released five years after the original, Ghostbuster 2 brings back all of our beloved characters while introducing quirky, new ones (we're looking at you, Dr. Janosz Poha). Our heroes battle rivers of slime, New York bureaucracy, diapers, and the villainous Vigo the Carpathian.Failing to out gross the original film, Ghostbuster 2 was panned by critics who felt the film too closely resembled the plot of the first movie and the characters lacked any charm or wit. Brad and Troy use the two hour podcast runtime to debunk the haters and prove, once and for all, that Ghostbusters 2 is one of the best sequels in the industry!Special shoutout to all of the listeners who have made the first year of this podcast so special. Additionally, Brad and Toy would like to thank all of our guests for taking time to appear on our show and share their love for movies that bombed at the box office!Ghostbusters 2 is directed by Ivan Reitman and stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Peter MacNicol. If you want to leave feedback or suggest a movie bomb, please drop us a line at NotABombPod@gmail.com. Also, if you like what you hear, leave a review on Apple Podcast.Cast: Brad, Troy
It's 1981 and Matthew Robbins is at the helm of this dark fantasy tale starring Peter MacNicol, Caitlin Clarke, Ralph Richardson, Ian McDiarmid and the finest dragon ever committed to screen, Vermithrax Pejorative. No virgins were harmed in the making of this production, although we may yet discover James' recipe for poached eggs.
Corrye put it best: we were due for a healthy dose of bullsh*t on the podcast. In Luke's opinion, Dragonslayer provided more than its fair share of it. The dragon special effects had the Chumps cheering. The cinematography, too. But then there's Peter MacNicol. And the fake Gandalf guy. And that weird skinny-dipping scene. And that goofy final 30 seconds with the horse. A laundry list of horsesh*t, indeed.
This week, we review the unfairly maligned, Ghostbusters 2. The film came out five years after the firtst, churned out by Columbia Pictures, who was in dire need of a hit after firing their CEO, David Putnam. The production was chaotic. While this film did not have the drastic re-writes of the first, it also had a shooting schedule of approximately one-third of the original's 13 month shoot. Ivan Reitman returned to direct. He and both of his children had cameos in the film. That's right, Jason Reitman, director of the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife, was in this film! He is at the birthday party Ray and Winston are at (in a scene that was later homaged in TMNT). We talk about the elder Reitman blaming this movie's "failure" (still made over $200,000,000) on the Tim Burton, Michael Keaton, and Jack Nicholson brooding powerhouse: Batman. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis returned to write the film. The original draft was very different, with the action taking place in Scotland, involving subterranean worlds and faerie rings. Special effects were completed by Industrial Light and Magic ("ILM"). Stephan Dane, designer of the Ecto-1, proton packs, and ghost trap, came back to this film and designed the giga-meter, slime scooper, and slime blower, but this time the poor boy was entirely uncredited. We talk about the new additions to the cast as well! Peter MacNicol played Janosz Poha, who has inarguably one of the most fun accents to impersonate ever (which he allegedly stole from Meryl Streep). We also go in depth into the history of the actor who played Vigo the Carpathian, “Wilhelm von Homburg,” born Norbert Grupe. He was the son of a WWII veteran, a boxer, a professional wrestler, and a total creep. How 'bout that soundtrack, eh? Bobby Brown, Elton John, and Danny Elfman, just to name a few! Speaking of music, this week's "Hidden Track" is Certain Doom, by Hrom: https://hromcan.bandcamp.com/ The song is off their album, Legends of the Powerheart: Part II. Christmas season begins as we do a Random Rewatch of Olive, The Other Reindeer, everyone's favourite 90s Matt Groening production that is not The Simpsons or Futurama. Can Rossi successfully sum up this animated special in 10 words or less? How clever is the dialogue for a kids Christmas special? Why is this so forgotten considering how notable the creative team was, combined with a cast that includes Drew Barrymore, Joe Pantoliano, Dan Castellaneta, Jay Mohr, Peter MacNicol and Ed Asner? How much does Colin love Michael Stipe and the unofficial R.E.M song in this show? Does Olive actually fly or just get dragged through the sky? And why did we never get a sequel, or Martini spinoff? Put away all those fake angry letters to Santa, cause it's time to get into the Christmas spirit and download our random recap of the Christmas classic that may still one day become a thing★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

We all love babies right? Now what if we replaced babies with 6 year old kids with stunted growth and pasted their heads onto the bodies of little people? No? How about some CGI lip-syncing so they can talk? No? Ok, well how about stuffing a child actor into a bin of soiled undies? Yes, please. So Baby Geniuses and it's followup are two of the lowest rated movies that have ever existed, despite the overwhelming amount of fake 10/10 reviews on IMDB, it still was a box-office smash. Why? Because people love babies! Babies can do no wrong! Even when they are covered in dookie, murdering bums, imitating John Travolta and keeping the secrets of life to themselves out of selfish dickery! I'm not really sure if people who went to this for love of babies actually paid attention to what these awful children are actually up to. On the other side of the coin, Kathleen Turner and Christopher Lloyd are evil because we're told their evil even though their actions and motivations are parallels of our "hero adults" Kim Cattrell and Peter MacNicol which only reveals more about these horrific little baby monsters. While, we can't in good faith say that Baby Geniuses is a do for fans of crappy films, it's so close to being one of the greatest bad movies ever if only it could have stuck with babies doing karate and diving into dumpsters, but sadly tries to put the good-feelers into it's clearly moronic intended audience. Do or don't, what the hell do we care. Our souls have been eroded by dancing babies.

Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films!Special guest Award-Winning Bobby Nash joins the Commentary Team for the first-ever Dragon Con-themed Commentary – 1981's Dragonslayer!Everyone knows that dragons are badass, but for some reason Hollywood has rarely done a good job of capitalizing on their badass-ness. One of the seminal early 80s HBO standards was Matthew Robbins' Dragonslayer, a film set to cash in on the fantasy craze of the day, with a little Mark Hamill-ness thrown in by way of a young Peter MacNicol.Featuring gorgeous locations and tremendous production design, the film failed to become the blockbuster that had been hoped for and even today hasn't managed to achieve even a cult status. In a tribute to the awesomeness of Dragon Con and of dragons, the Irregulars delve into Dragonslayer and offer up their thoughts as to what, if anything, went wrong.Listen in as Phantom Troublemaker, Bobby Nash, Arian, and Rad Ranger gather in the Phantom Zone to bear witness to the might of Vermithrax Pejorative, the best-named thing ever!Be sure to join the Needless Things Podcast Facebook Group and get in on the conversation for this week’s episode! Page, Devon, and J.D. are here to discuss Episode 2 of Season 3, Purpose in the Machine! They discuss whether or not Ward works for them as a concept right now, if the Simmons situation was solved too quickly, and profess their love for Peter MacNicol. Can we keep him?
Movie Meltdown - Episode 280 This week we’re joined by special guest co-host Hal Sparks. You may know Hal as a stand-up comic, an actor, a musician… he is a man of many talents. But this episode he sits down with us to reminisce about growing up in a small town, and his struggle to make it all the way to Los Angeles. And the personal conviction it takes to work in the entertainment industry. Plus we discuss some of the movies that inspired and entertained him over the years And along the way, we also discuss... the nearest hospital without chickens in it, George Carlin, Sigourney Weaver in Alien, Joe vs. the Volcano, Heavy Metal, all we tried to do was be a little too free… and the hammer came down, Spiderman 2, in Mandarin, Antichrist, the hardest role for an actor to play…, Peter MacNicol, fixing mandolins, Brian Johnson of AC/DC, I’m trying to help you people… and no one is listening to me, Michael Palin, Brighton Beach Memoirs, dentistry hasn’t changed that much, Blade Runner, MacArthur: hyper puritanical dickhead?, Cabin in the Woods, I’m focusing on being a performer… and my performance comes in several different shapes, Bobcat Goldthwait, Fritz the Cat, Captain America, Flashpoint, Let the Right One In, just you and a microphone, Mindwalk, Scooby Doo, Japanese rules against pornography, Sam Raimi, The Nutty Professor, Jiminy Glick, the greatest bullshit story ever told, Mitch Hedberg, Zapped!, Steve Martin, The LEGO Movie, The Avengers, having a tin center, Bob Dylan, on-stage persona, the first mixed-race couple on a network show, a two-story set, why we come up with jokes, Fletch, old LPs, how far can you skate… on just what you were given, Richard Pryor, The Shining, Running Scared, Groundlings, Bill Cosby, banjo took over his life, Spinal Tap, art is about imparting either emotion or understanding, Billy Crystal, Beverly Hills Cop, Growing up in Peaks Mill, Star Wars, John Lennon, China vs. the US, Doug Stanhope, Second City, failure has a clock… an abstract based on a puritanical work ethic that’s from Philippians… and I have no interest in that… behaviorally or intellectually or philosophically at all. “It’s just supposed to make you mad at your life, so you f-ing do something!” For more on all of Hal’s work, go to: halsparks.com
On this very special third anniversary show, the gang's all here, on the air to rant about the nostalgia-tainted, comedy-free sequel, Ghostbusters II! Why wasn't the focus centered on the comedy? Why not make a new movie instead of a carbon copy of the original? And how on Earth does the entire cast treat Winston like such crap? Plus: Egon Spengler, slime sex offender. Ghostbusters II stars Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, Annie Potts and Peter MacNicol; directed by Ivan Reitman. The cast of WHM would like to thank our amazing fan base for enjoying the show for the last three years. You gals and guys make it worth every second!
There has been a coup! Bibbs takes over from Andrew as lead anchor and really gets into it. This week, the SHIELDCAST discusses "The Well," which supposedly acts as a tie-in to Thor: The Dark World. Is it an effective piece of cross-promotion? Is Ward developed in an interesting way? What about those final moments with Melinda May? And just how creepy is Peter MacNicol, anyway? Tune in to find out.
