Special Guest Host Father Matthew, Cyrus and a caller from San Antonio, engage in a heartfelt discussion about the true meaning of Christmas, the significance of attending Mass on both Sunday and Christmas, and the captivating message conveyed in A Charlie Brown Christmas. The episode celebrates the rich spiritual depth and tradition of the holiday season while addressing common misconceptions and providing guidance for listeners to fully embrace the essence of the Christmas liturgy. Shirley – Did Jesus say, “love they neighbor as thyself”? Wuerner - Where do the seven deadly sins come from? (07:04) Sharon - Could I offer Gregorian Masses for my relatives that passed away 50 years ago? Is there another way to honor them? Mick – What is the precise definition of blessings, who is authorized to give them, and what power do they have? Carol - Where I live there is no additional available confessions before Christmas. If priests are not available, what are we supposed to do? Fr. Matthew and Cyrus talk about It's a Wonderful Life and A Charlie Brown Christmas Special (35:36) Raymond - If we go to Midnight Mass will that satisfy our Sunday obligation?
Christmastime is kind of like time to get things in shape, especially around the house. Most of us become very motivated when December arrives in terms of getting things cleaned up. We dust corners and clean areas that haven't been touched for like eleven months. Trouble spots in the carpet that had gone unnoticed, suddenly we notice them and we work on them. That wall in the kitchen that needed some touch-up paint, it becomes a priority. We begin decorating things! Houses are suddenly in better shape than they've been in all year, especially since last Christmas. Christmas is shape-up time for houses...and people. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Really Ready for Christmas." Our word for today from the Word of God is found in Isaiah 55:6. And it happens to be about fixing things up. Here's what it says: "Seek the Lord while He may be found. Call on Him while He is near." The 7th verse says, "Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts, and let him turn to the Lord and He will have mercy on him and to our God, for He will freely pardon." Now, you notice here it says, "Seek the Lord while He is near." You say, "Wait a minute. This isn't about Christmas. What does this have to do with Christmas?" Well, honestly, I don't think there's any time of the year when people feel closer to the Lord or have Jesus more on their radar than the Christmas season. Remember, "while He is near." I think Christ seems close at this time of the year; almost inescapable. You can probably sense that. There's a softness - a kind of warm and cuddly feeling on the inside this time of year. We're softer than any other time. We find ourselves drifting into thoughts about Christ more often than usual. I mean, even watching the Charlie Brown Christmas Special or hearing a carol at the mall; in places we wouldn't normally think about Christ. We're open to Him. That's when it's time to fix things up with Jesus. Not just around the house; I mean inside the heart house of your life. "Seek the Lord while He may be found," it says. That's really the Christmas season. "Call on Him while He is near." Well, in a very real way, that is now. This may have been for you a year of slowly drifting away from the Lord. You didn't run away; you're just not as close and warm...intimate like you used to be. Maybe it's been a year of real confusing doubts, hardships that have made you disillusioned and maybe a little hard-hearted. Or there could be a distraction that has taken His place for a while. But I'll bet you've discovered it's really no good away from Him is it? Those are the best times of your life when you're close to Him. It's Christmas time! It's time to fix things up. "Seek the Lord while He may be found. Call on Him while He's close" like He is now. And maybe this year, maybe this is when you finally think about opening up to Christ as your personal Savior. Not just a baby in a manger. Not just the One we sing about in our carols and we go to church services and go through our Christmas thing. You miss Him. You've missed having a personal relationship with Him. That's what you were made for. It's not that you haven't known about Him. You've never been against Him. You're religious. You know a lot of people who are Christians, but maybe you've never made your personal commitment to Christ. You've never said, "Jesus, what you did on that cross; what you came to do was for me. That was for all the wrong things I have done." Well, Christmas is close, and I wouldn't be surprised if you feel a tug in your heart. And that tug? That's not me. That's Jesus. This could be your first Christmas with Christ in your heart if you'll fix things up with Him. I'd love to help you begin that relationship with Him and understand from what He wrote in the Bible exactly how this relationship works. Would you go to our website? It's ANewStory.com. I think you'll find your way home there. Whatever stands between you and Jesus right now, would you let Him clean it up before Christmas? Then it will be more than a song for you. You can really say, "I'll be home for Christmas!"

Do you remember the first time you saw "A Charlie Brown Christmas" Special? Can you believe it came out in 1965??There's a lot to love about it but there's this part in the movie where Linus tells the other characters about the true meaning of Christmas by reciting the story of Jesus' birth from Luke 2. If you know anything about Charlie Brown and specifically the character Linus, he always carries around a blanket for security. About 40 seconds into his speech, he gets to the part where he says "..Fear Not...", he drops the blanket. He let go of it.The message is simple, yet brilliant. The birth of Jesus separates us from our fears. So this Christmas season, you no longer have to cling to the metaphorical blanket you carry to deal with your insecurities because through Christ, you can walk in strength.
This was such a blast to put together! Big thanks to everyone who was involved! We're excited to do it again this year with Frosty! Welcome Bantermites! We've got a special one for you! We did it again! Listen to this to hear me and friends sing some solos and duets of famous Christmas songs. I joined talented musician Justin Belew at his production studio Bibb City Sound in Columbus GA for part 2 of our J & J Christmas Music Extravaganza, following up on the most popular "Run The Race" episode from the past year (check out #92). We have a few special guests performing this time around, including my WTVM co-anchor Barbara Gauthier. Subscribe to listen and find all the conversations I have weekly about faith and fitness! We have some fun with this one, give some interesting info on holiday songs you know, and talk about the Gospel that's at the heart of Christmas. Here's a rundown of the songs we sing and talk about: (4:43) JINGLE BELLS, one of the most famous ones but did it originate in Boston or Savannah GA? It also had a different title. After we sing that together, (11:16) I do an Elvis impersonation (maybe not a good one) on BLUE CHRISTMAS, a sad tune, while (14:32) Justin turns into a diva for ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU by Mariah Carey, a song that people tend to love or hate. (17:32) We do some fun or funny duets with LET IT SNOW! which was written in the summer sun of California, but does everyone want snow? Justin and i also play our parts in (26:19) BABY, IT'S COLD OUTSIDE. We also talk about the controversy surrounding this song over the last decade vs. the original intent. (32:58) Local songwriter, singer, and Army veteran Tim Maggart, who's originally from TN, plays guitar and does his rendition of TENNESSEE CHRISTMAS, a classic by Amy Grant. He talks about memories songs bring and how the military handles the holidays. He also jumps in for a quick FELIZ NAVIDAD, then we continue the international flavor with (42:00) my solo of MELE KALIKIMAKA, Hawaii's greeting at Christmas, played on a ukulele from Waikiki! There are also important hymns and songs focused on Jesus that we sing, like (47:47) O COME ALL YE FAUTHFUL, sung at many holiday services at church, then we discuss the changing lyrics of (53:31) AWAY IN A MANGER and sing the classic song of faith together. (57:28) Veteran TV news anchor and my friend Barbara Gauthier does a beautiful acapella version of SILENT NIGHT, then she and I talk about the Savior Jesus being born and what people may have thought of that news more then 2,000 years ago. (1:06:08) Justin also plays and sings one of his favorite holiday songs by a Christian artist, LABOR OF LOVE by Andrew Peterson. We discuss the poetic lyrics that presents the Gospel in a raw way, how it may have been for Joseph and Mary. We have some fun with our J & J duet of (1:19:30) RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER, a character and song which has a surprisingly sad origin. Were the other reindeer really bullies to Rudolph? We discuss. (1:27:25) The Carpenters sang this one much better, but i give it a try with (THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE) HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS, then we close out this Christmas Music special with (1:36:58) a quick discussion about how The Charlie Brown Christmas Special almost did not air, but brings us wonderful music like CHRISTMAS TIME IS HERE. We give you an instrumental version and brief duet. Hope you enjoyed our music and discussion about Christmas, faith, music, and more. Tell your friends about it! Thanks for listening to the #RunTheRace podcast! Also, write a quick review about it, on Apple podcasts. For more info, go to www.wtvm.com/podcast/.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and yours. This will be my 53rd Christmas. My God! Time flies. My first Christmas memory is of reaching into Grandma Riley's oversized cookie tin and taking out a perfect sugar cookie, crisp on the edges, tender inside, I savored every nibble. Those Spokane Christmases were my happiest. I was with my cousins and the house was overstuffed with family. There was Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, and Andy Williams playing behind the chatter as adults caught up over a game of cards or elbow to elbow at the kitchen counter preparing food. My clothes absorbed the smells of turkey and homemade candy along with cigarette smoke and hearth fire. I share some Christmas memories in hopes it makes your holiday season more joyful. Welcome back, Wolf Pack, to another Positive Cinematic Spotlight! We are moving into the middle of December and Winter Holidays are discernible just on the horizon. WIth those most merry holidays beckoning us, we are looking at Christmas movies. I would certainly and gladly look at Hanukkah movies or Kwanzaa movies, but I am not aware of any, so if you have any recommendations, I am open to them. Until then, this week we are looking at It's a Wonderful Life, one of the most viewed and popular Christmas movies ever. Rotten Tomatoes has It's a Wonderful Life ranked as the #1 Christmas movie, just ahead of the Charlie Brown Christmas Special. For the record, last week's Christmas movie, Die Hard ranked #14. Christmas movies are typically easy to find positive messages in them, as that is the nature of the holiday. It's a Wonderful Life's message about being aware of how important one person can be certainly fits the bill of positive message, and even echoes one of Dr. Melton's catch phrases, “Know thy impact!” And that is a great take away from It's a Wonderful Life. Your presence in the classroom is a positive influence on multiple lives. Sometimes, it may seem to be a thankless endeavor, but rest easy knowing that there are multiple people who you have a positive impact on. But I had a suspicion there was more going on in this movie classic. There had to be more for it to get the number of TV time slots it was getting at one point. Ok, so the reason was that the copyright had lapsed and TV companies could air it for free. But it still gets a couple of viewings on public television even after the copyright was reacquired. So what other positive messages does It's a Wonderful Life have? First, I wondered how George Bailey, played by Jimmy Stewart, had such a positive impact on the town of Bedford Falls. In the movie, he's described as never thinking of himself, except there are a couple of notable scenes where we see his temper. George is not always a calm oasis in the midst of chaos. He's shown a few times losing his temper and taking his frustrations out on others. So, how does George get such patience and compassion from his fellow Bedford Falls citizens? George treats everyone with empathy or sympathy. Sympathy gets a bad rap from people saying, “I don't want your sympathy,” largely, it seems because of the misunderstood definition of “to feel bad for someone,” akin to pitying someone. Really, sympathy is about feeling compassion for others despite not having experience with similar hardships, and we see George display that compassion throughout the movie. When he was a child and his boss, Mr. Gower, makes a mistake at the pharmacy, we are told that George shows Mr. Gower the mistake he made with the medications, and even after Mr. Gower reacts angrily and violently, George never tells anyone, knowing if the small town citizens knew what almost happened, he would likely have lost his position as pharmacist. But George's compassion and strength of character saves a life and a livelihood, understanding that Mr. Gower had gotten some bad news that day. Another incident of compassion and sympathy was when banks were shutting down in the wake of the depression. As the manager of the Bailey Brothers Building and Loan, George tries to negotiate with his clients who want to withdraw their money. However, the business model for the Building and Loan involves using money saved with them from some citizens to help build houses for others, so there's nowhere near the cash needed to pay everyone back their money. However, this happened on his wedding day and he had $2000 cash for their honeymoon. He uses that money to give the citizens the money they were asking for. He could have said that they signed an agreement to give the Building and Loan 60 days to get the money they were asking for, but his sympathy for his clients' concerns led him to come up with another solution.

Welcome to part two of the Modern Moron’s Holiday Special name that Christmas artist Extravaganzapalooza! Our first song is by Ertha Kitt, which the senator gets without even hearing her iconic song “Santa Baby” even being played. Now, I have to down a rabbit hole before we even get to the episode. I mention in this episode that we could do a whole show on Ertha Kitt. While in pop culture she is remembered for that song as well as playing Cat Woman in the last season of the Batman TV series, she had a very long and successful career on Broadway and other stages in the world as well as on screen and as a recording artist. But she was also an activist, primarily speaking out against the war in Vietnam, racism and underprivileged youth’s. In fact, she attended a luncheon at the whitehouse hosted by “Ladybird” Johnson in January of 1968 which derailed her career by perhaps a decade or more. The luncheon was focused on crime and young people committing cirme… remember that. Ertha was in attendance because of her advocacy for a group in Washington DC called “Rebels With a Cause”. Ladybird Johnson welcomes everyone to the luncheon and at one point, President Lyndon Johnson comes in to applause and says a few words. As LBJ, turns to leave, Ms. Kitt… who is only a few feet away from him, stands up to ask the president a question. Actual audio from that luncheon was apparently uncovered just this year by the LBJ Library in Austin, Texas. The President was not going to take questions. This is 1968 and he thought he’d just come by and say hello to the ladies having their cute little luncheon. So here is the audio of Ertha Kitt asking President Johnson a question about delinquent parents… I believe that’s the phrase you’ll hear … delinquent parents who have to work and therefore cannot be there enough to parent completely. It’s a little hard to hear, but LBJ responds and at the end I believe he says something to the effect of, “That’s a good question to ask yourself and the women here and ya’ll have a good luncheon… here’s the recording: So, LBJ walks away from on his last word. No handshake, no smile, no nothin’... it looked like she pissed him off. Purportedly she was shunned from that moment on at the luncheon, who knows. But I did read a couple of sources that said the White House staff car that brought her to the White House for the luncheon was not available to take her back to her hotel and she had to take a cab. Supposedly acting and singing gigs dried up for her after that incident and she ended up moving to Europe or at least spending a majority of her time there as she couldn't find work in the U. S. It was later reported in 1976 in the NY Times that the CIA had opened a file on Ertha Kitt at the request of the Secret Service which produced an extensive report containing second‐hand gossip about the entertainer but no evidence of any foreign intelligence connections. I have a link to that 1976 archived article at the bottom of the show description. See all the fun stuff the Holiday’s bring?! Later in this episode the Senator and I have a wonderful Moron Moment when we discuss our mutual love for The Charlie Brown Christmas Special and the great Christmas music in that program from jazz musician Vince Guaraldi. The Senator mentions a song with no lyrics called “Skating”... it sounds like this… then he says the song doesn’t have anything to do with Christmas in the lyrics. But we had just established that there were no lyrics in the song he’s trying to recall. Typical morons trying to have an intelligent conversation… it just goes in circles, he ends up howling Hark The Herald Angels” like the end of the special. and neither of us are listening to the other. And we never… never identify the song the Senator was originally talking about because we’re basically having a contest to see who can name the most moments from the special … no listening going on whatsoever… You’ll see. It will definitely make you grateful… that you don’t have us drinking Egg Nog by your fireplace talking non-stop about all the crap we know about A Charlie Brown Christmas. It’s The Modern Moron Christmas Holiday Special Extravaganzapalooza brought to you by Dolly Madison. CLOSE - Have you ever listened to two people talking without listening to each other more than that? That was some serious two old men on a porch talk right there… Regarding the Senator’s comment about CBS cancelling the Charlie Brown Christmas Special because of references to Christianity… I could not find a reasonably credible news source or multiple sources to confirm that. What I did find on more than one site is that all of the Charlie Brown Holiday Specials for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas were not on broadcast television this year because the rights are now owned by Apple TV. ($$) You know what we should have done? We should have done a show about Christmas Specials we watched when we were kids! From Rudolph to Charlie Brown to one of my favorites, The Mr. Magoo Christmas Carol. That Mr. Magoo was an incredible actor. Ah maybe next year... I always forget to ask you to please hit like, thumbs up, subscribe, leave a great review… or even a bad review for that matter, retweet, repost, and blah, blah, blah Thank you for listening and if I don’t post another episode before Christmas I hope you have a great one. Welcome to this month's podcast recommendation, which comes out the last Monday of every month. As you know from listening to my podcast, Why I’ll Never Make It, I like to highlight and dive into the things that hold us back as artists, the realities of this business with all of its ups and downs. Sometimes we find success and other times hardship and failure. So when I happened upon a television and movie podcast that did the same thing, focusing on lesser known stories behind the scenes, well I was immediately intrigued. THE INDUSTRY, hosted by Dan Delgado. Since 2018, this podcast has taken a closer look at actors who thought too much of themselves, producers who did not know what they were doing, and studios that would do anything for a hit show. His exposé, for example, of the rival movies Lambada and The Forbidden Dance, which both came out at the same time in 1990, revealed a lot of the behind the scenes bickering and was highly entertaining. But it was actually a very different kind of episode that first introduced me to The Industry. Last Christmas Dan did a bonus episode all about the first Charlie Brown Christmas Special on CBS and how it almost didn't get made. Since that episode I've been hooked. Dan gives some backstory to his podcast, and in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, he also shares a bit of his own background as well. So in your playlist of podcasts, I heartily recommend you add The Industry. Just put it after Why I’ll Never Make It, of course. :) Listen and subscribe to THE INDUSTRY Website: theindustrypodcast.com

This is the first in a series of Christmas-focused features. In this episode, I talk about the Charlie Brown Christmas Special and the powerful truths we find in this animated timeless classic.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everybody! For this week's special "Christmas Special" Christmas Special of Bonus Features with Alex and Robert, we take a look at and review three fixtures of modern Holiday culture -- the first episode of The Simpsons (Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire), the Charlie Brown Christmas Special, and A Christmas Story!(0:13) IntroReviews:(0:58) "Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire"(33:51) "A Charlie Brown Christmas"(1:04:20) "A Christmas Story"(1:28:17) Outro
It's a grab bag of fun as we go through some recent quirky news stories as well as discuss the lack of social correctness of much-loved classic Christmas specials, and whether saying "Merry Christmas" to a stranger is socially acceptable. In Boston, MA, Suffolk County district attorney-elect Rachael Rollins announces that her office does not plan on prosecuting 15 petty crimes - including breaking and entering. In the Netherlands, a 69-year-old man attempts to legally change his age because he identifies as a 49 year-old. Kevin Hart and the Oscars controversy, the 'Baby It's Cold Outside' and the 'scoop of dessert' controversy, Twitter and censorship, Alec Baldwin's Trump impression vs. Dana Carvey's George Bush impression, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and misogyny, the Charlie Brown Christmas Special and Franklin getting the broken chair, and Jimmy Stewart and the Heat Miser. And who doesn't like a humble Bumble? Have a news story or question you want us to cover? For the fourth year in a row Troy Guinn, John Hudson and I dig into a festive themed film that fits the odd nature of this podcast. Holiday Horrors 2018 brings us to the often overlooked classic CHRISTMAS EVIL (1980). Written and directed by Lewis Jackson the film is available in a fine Blu-Ray release that shines a light on the a film that really should be better known. Kind of a cross between A Charlie Brown Christmas Special and Polanski's REPULSION it relates the sad tale of a man overly preoccupied with the holiday but seemingly unable reconcile himself to the realities of incorporating it into an adult life. Having spent years working for a toy manufacturing company he has wrapped himself in the warm message of December the 25th year round. But, this year, he begins to feel his sense of the season slipping away at the same time that his obsessive preoccupation with Christmas ramps up as the holiday approaches. The details of what might be real life and what could be fantasy become intertwined and often impossible to tease apart as our main character starts to act out his love of Christmas and his anger at the uncaring people that pervert it for selfish ends. We discuss the film's production with a sleigh full of details straight from the Blu-Ray's three commentary tracks. The film's achievements and failings come under the microscope with each of us noting the moments that we love and the points we felt could have been better presented. We remark on the amazing cast of New York acting talent onscreen as well as a surprising connection to a certain New Jersey musical legend as well. The film's beautiful, glowing cinematography is discussed and the movie's fundamental similarity to another, much more famous New York set drama of the 1970's is noted. Anytime a way can be found to compare Travis Bickle to the Grinch you know you've hit on a supremely odd confluence of ideas! So, join us for an accordion spiced Christmas episode with a few comedic surprises along the way. We rattle on a quite a while but we hope this year end show will put a smile on the faces of even the most curmudgeonly of the Christmas naysayers out there. The show can be reached at thebloodypit@gmail.com or over on Facebook where the Bloody Pit's page resides. Thanks for listening and have a Happy Holiday, whatever you might be celebrating.

So I'm watching Jerry's Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee on Netflix. It's amusing. He gets these obscure cars and picks up celebrities and talks with them over coffee. He gets paid a lot of money for this. They aren't earth shattering interviews, but the show is cool. I was watching trying to figure out what it was that made this show cool. Then it came to me. There was jazz music in the background. Now watching a toothless waitress in some strange dinner is cool. Look! it's coffee in slow motion put to jazz! I've never seen coffee poured like this. It's like seeing coffee for the first time. Holy Cow. Now when Jerry pulls up in a 1972 VW Van with rust to pick up Kramer, it's cool. Then I thought about the Charlie Brown Christmas Special. Here is this boy face male pattern baldness at a very early age, being bullied by his friends, and disrespected by his dog. There isn't much of a story, then get him involved with a bizarre play that also has no story. Then Linus just takes control and start blurting out random scripture like a long lost Osteen and the Christmas Special comes to an end. Why do we watch every year? Becuase it's got one of the coolest soundtracks ever. Filled with some really cool jazz. I don't even like jazz. It makes anything cool. I recently started using Advocare products (which have boosted my weight loss efforts) and while they have great products let's not kid ourselves they are a multilevel marketing business. It's Amway for fat people. So I signed up so I can discount on the products and I'm reading some really boring stuff. Now lately I'm stuck. I keep throwing out my back, and that makes it hard to exercise. I'm losing weight (down 3 lbs in the last 30 days) but I keep throwing out my back from sneezing. Then when my back is out, it's hard to exercise. The lack of exercises makes me less healthy, which leaves me open to getting sick, which leads to me sneezing more. You see where this is headed. You know what makes exercising in your living room better? You guessed it. Mentioned in This Episode Advocare
I opened my Twitter account on Monday to discover a popular sentiment, the spirit of which you may well recognize. It read, “Merry season of holidays to you and those with whom you identify and celebrate with in the way in which you've grown accustomed to based on your upbringing and personal convictions whether they be religiously based or secular.” While I could not have written a tweet like that without it being taken as a mean-spirited parody, I believe the author would stand by the message. This is a woman who is honestly searching, grasping, for language that can acknowledge something wonderful humans share (the seasonal celebratory impulse) while maintaining her commitment to a diversity of meanings (Postmodernism). She's saying, “What's fundamentally important to me is that I want everyone to feel like what they are doing is special and good.” Hers is the tweet version of basically every child's holiday special out this season (trust me, I've seen them all). Each lighthearted cartoon short is carefully crafted to teach kids living in an impossibly pluralistic world that “even though your family or tribe is basically alone in how you celebrate, what you're doing is fine and what everyone else is doing is fine, and the thing that can join all the different peoples together is to say that everything is fine and focus on what we have in common.” Compare that to the Charlie Brown Christmas Special of 50 years ago, which assumed that everyone knew the true single meaning of Christmas but had just backslidden into consumerism. This is something altogether different: a new age has dawned.I believe the above “good vibes” tweet is authentically heartfelt and not at all ironically meant, and I can affirm the author's abstract feelings of goodwill while also saying that what is fundamentally important to her is not at all what is important to me. I feel more pity for her than camaraderie with her. I think the object of her faith (humanity) is powerless to do what she desperately wants it to do. So sadly, the unity she desires with humankind is out of her reach because her fundamental value is not shared with everyone, and she will undoubtedly reserve her goodwill exclusively for the people who can affirm her own fundamental conviction as fundamental. Which will also make her tweet pretty empty when she realizes she doesn't actually mean it!It's hard to muster, “live and let live” when we know, along with Paul McCartney, that it actually means, “live and let die.” For the Christian, the most fundamental significant thing about us is that we cannot accept that. Jesus Christ did not “live and let live,” nor did he “live and let die.” He died to let live. The Almighty God of the universe made himself nothing, lowered himself to be the only significant common denominator, to gather the nations, humans from every tribe and tongue, to a common table for a united, eternal, Holy Day. He alone can provide a bond for humanity that is radically inclusive and yet infinitely meaningful. Only He can make the biggest possible family out of the impossible pluralities of humankind. And that's the core of my merry season of holidays which I and those with whom I identify and celebrate in the way we've grown accustomed to based on our upbringing and personal convictions, religiously based, secular, and granted by grace through faith in Christ alone.
One of the most memorable icons from the Charlie Brown Christmas Special, is Charlie Brown’s tree. In the midst of all the glimmering, multicolored, modern aluminum trees, there is a humble tree that can barely keep its needles on the branches. Linus is surprised they still make wooden trees. But that is the tree that Charlie Brown chooses. The unlikely one. And in the end of the movie, it is the tree that is made to be beautiful, almost miraculously beautiful. It is hard to find a better representation of the message of Christmas. In a humble and overlooked village of Bethlehem, a little child is born. But this child will be the king of all kings. He will be the one who takes the humble and broken and miraculously transforms them into something beautiful. He brings deep, thorough peace.
