Welcome to Day 1715 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomThe Last Word – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1715 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today's trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16&version=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Barbara Johnson, and it is: A good way to have the last word is to apologize. The Last Word I think most of us like to have the last word in a conversation. What that usually means is that we want to be right at the expense of the other person. Suppose you feel the need to be correct and prove another person as wrong means that you both have lost. We don't have to agree on most topics to carry on a meaningful and productive conversation. We live in such a contentious environment today, especially online, where a whole segment of people call trolls whose purpose is to argue and disagree with others who may not share their opinion. There are very few issues worth arguing about in life and even fewer people whose minds have been changed because of an argument. It usually just entrenches those individuals to be adamant with their opinion. Instead, we should love others and be concerned about their well-being. We do not have to win the argument or try and prove we are right. As long as we are right with God, and at peace that our thoughts and opinions align with God's precepts found in His Word, then that is all we need. If you must have the last word, let it apologize for when we are offensive or have spoken inappropriately. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Colossians+4%3A5-6&version=NLT (Colossians 4:5-6) Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone. In Greek, the words gracious and attractive mean ‘and seasoned with salt,' which reminds me of https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+5%3A13-16&version=NLT (Matthew 5:13-16) “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' Welcome to Day 1710 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Good Plan – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1710 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from H. Stanley Judd, and it is; A good plan is like a road map: It shows the final destination and usually the best way to get there. A Good Plan Prior to having GPS capabilities at our fingertips via smartphones, we relied on printed maps. While the maps were beneficial, they did not automatically show us the best way to reach our destination. In addition, while our GPS units usually map the quickest routes even if there are construction or accidents, most other plans are not as efficient. Just because business and life plans are not as accurate as a GPS unit, we still should create, modify, and refine our plans because they guide us to our final destination. No plan, map, or the most accurate GPS units are perfect, but they are necessary to navigate our trek of life. The most crucial aspect of any plan is determining your destination before starting on your journey. Otherwise, you may be heading in the wrong direction. Then, with the goal in mind, your plan will guide you on the best way to reach that destination. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2040%3A5&version=NLT (Psalm 40:5) O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2021%3A30&version=NLT (Proverbs 21:30) No human wisdom or understanding or plan can stand against the Lord. As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' Welcome to Day 1700 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Formidable Combination – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1700 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Nelson Mandela, and it is: A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination. A Formidable Combination The joining of a good head with a good heart certainly makes a person much more well-rounded and balanced. I know some who have a good head on their shoulders and can work through just about any problem or issue they confront. The problem with only have a good head is that you end up damaging others in the process of solving problems. I also know some who have a good heart but don't always logically think through the consequences before assisting others. This scenario can lead to a situation where more significant problems arise because they were not anticipated. Indeed, a good head and a good heart are a combination that is hard to beat and will produce much good. When you can logically think through a problem and have the passion and heart to help others, it will produce great rewards for the person giving and receiving. This combination can also be found in couples where one person has a good head, and the other has a good heart, and as they work together, they can help and complement one another. Keep these thoughts in mind when you have the opportunity. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2+Peter+1%3A5-7&version=NLT (2 Peter 1:5-7) In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God's promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. We are on https://wisdom-trek.com/captivate-podcast/day-1677/ (Day 1677) of our trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget. Today's quote is from Harvey Mackay, and it is, “A dream is just a dream. A goal is a dream with a plan and a deadline.” A Dream and a GoalWe all need to dream, but if we don't take the next steps, then just like a dream while sleeping, it will soon evaporate with the day as our minds become busy with other distractions. The only way to hang onto a dream and then progress towards making a dream come true is to set goals based on that dream and then create a plan with definitive deadlines that we must achieve. The first step is to analyze your dream to determine if it is possible to turn it into reality. Suppose it is, then determine what goals need to be set for the achievement of that dream. Once the goal is set, then you must create a plan to reach that goal. Next, you must set a deadline for when each part of the plan will be achieved. Otherwise, a dream is just a dream, which will quickly evaporate from your mind. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2021%3A5&version=NLT (Proverbs 21:5) Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Timothy%202%3A15&version=NLT (2 Timothy 2:15) Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth. Welcome to Day 1622 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomImprove The World – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on our trek to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16&version=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! Today is Day 1622 of our Trek, and it's time for another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Anne Frank, and it is: “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” Improve The World What are you waiting for to improve your world? Nothing is stopping any of us from beginning today. This moment is a perfect time to begin making a positive impact on improving our world. You do not need big grandiose plans. You just need to start. Sometimes we over plan and overthink to the point where we do not make any progress at all. There is a small booklet written by Cyril Bird, who was a missionary to Central Africa, titled “Little Is Much When God Is in It.” In this book, the author discusses when we daily perform our routine tasks as if we are serving God; then we are making an impact to improve the world. It may not seem like we are making a significant impact, but even the little tasks we perform can substantially impact others. We should never underestimate our influence and impact on others. So don't delay, wait, or procrastinate. Start improving your world today. None of us know when our work on earth will be completed, and God will take us home to be with Him. Let us make the most of every opportunity to improve our world. Let me read four different verses that will help us focus on the daily tasks we have before us. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%209%3A4&version=NLT (John 9:4) We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians%206%3A10&version=NLT (Galatians 6:10) Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians%205%3A16&version=NLT (Ephesians 5:16) Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Colossians%204%3A5&version=NLT (Colossians 4:5) Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Today is Day 1607 of our Trek, and it's time for another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Zig Ziglar, and it is: You can change. You can be more than you are. You Can Change Change for all of us is difficult, but not impossible for any of us. Some adapt to change easier than others, but it is still a struggle. We like familiarity. We want the known. Change produces anxiety because of the unknown. The only constant in the world today is that it is constantly changing. Change in and of itself is neither good nor bad. It can be either. It is up to each of us to bend the change we experience in our lives towards good. Where we are in life is a direct result of how we have adapted to change. If you are stuck in mediocrity and don't feel you are making any progress, it is a direct result of not capitalizing on the change coming into your life. You can change for the better. You can be a better you tomorrow than you are today. It boils down to how you are confronting and managing that change which you encounter each day. Are you guiding the winds of change, or are they guiding you? Instead of fearing change choose to face it directly and make the choices that will allow you to benefit from that change. I am sure there are those who observe where granny and I are in life and feel that somehow we have been more fortunate than others. This is just not true. We both came from low-income families. We have been through a lot of difficulties in our lives. We have faced many changes, but we have adapted and turned them around so that we could become more than we were. We learned the challenging lessons that change brings to each of us, and by God's grace and mercy, we have persevered. Yes, at each step in our journey, we sought wisdom from God and others to make wise choices, but we never quit or gave up. So face the change with confidence and become more than you are today. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=James+1%3A5-8&version=NLT (James 1:5-8) If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. As you ponder another bit of wisdom from Gramps, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along with us tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' Welcome to Day 1603 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom.Visible Love – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Today is Day 1603 of our Trek, and it's time for another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Kahlil Gibran, and it is: Work is love made visible. Visible Love I am not sure when the philosophy or teaching began, but for centuries now, it has been taught either overtly or covertly that certain occupations are more honorable than others. This is especially true for someone in what has been considered “full-time Christian ministry.” Other professions which seem to be held in higher honor are medicine, teaching, emergency services. While each of these professions is important, it is a disservice to every other legal profession available today. Not only is it a disservice, but when we consider our role as Christ-followers working to build God's kingdom, every occupation is a holy calling before God. Because your work is a holy calling, you should love the work regardless of what you do. Being a pastor is honorable, but so is being a server at a fast-food restaurant. Being a doctor is honorable, but so is being a construction worker. In most of the world, fortunately, slavery or indentured servanthood has been made illegal. During much of Biblical times and even up to recent history, slavery was not uncommon for most individuals. When it comes down to it, many occupations worldwide have a similar demand on their workers. So even if you feel oppressed or that you are in a dead-end job, you can still choose to love what you do, because it is an important duty in our quest to continually build God's kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesian church, in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+6%3A5-8&version=NLT (Ephesians 6:5-8) Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart. Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free. We should love our work, because it is essential in our service to God. We should have the same attitude in our work as when Mordecai encouraged his cousin Esther who had become queen when the Jews were in exile. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Esther%204%3A14&version=NLT (Esther 4:14) If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” As you ponder this nugget of daily wisdom yourself, I would ask you to please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day
If we want to be useful to God, we'll have to become prayerful! Of the many reasons to pray, surely one of the best is that it puts us at the King's service for building His Kingdom. You have family members, or neighbors, or nations to save? Then it's time to pray. Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am and WRZN 720AM (Gainesville & Ocala, FL) at 7:30am. Prayer is two-way communication! The old joke goes, "If you talk to God, you're praying; if God talks to you, you're schizophrenic." But it would be impossible to count the number of Christians who have received guidance, insight and protection from the Lord through prayer. We see it in the Old Testament, the New Testament, maybe even in your testimony: God speaks. And that's just one of the motivations we have to spend time with Him every day. Here's the second of three parts of Jim's sermon, Why Pray? Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am and WRZN 720AM (Gainesville & Ocala, FL) at 7:30am. If God knows what we're going to ask for before we ask...then why ask? It's a logical question, and it's the title of a sermon we're starting today: Why Pray? Well, it's not to convince our heavenly Father, as we once tried to do with our earthly parents: "Please, please, P L E A S E?" We can glean some motivations for prayer from the text of Matthew 6, where we've been studying. And there are quite a few more reasons to spend time in dialog with the Lover of our souls. We might have started the Lord's Prayer with, "I'm sorry." Some people insist that we should always come into God's presence with confession and repentance. But that's not how Jesus taught us to pray. Now, the petition to "forgive us our trespasses" is in there, and it should be, but the model prayer begins by focusing on the Father - His love, His transcendence, His Name, His will, His Kingdom. We're continuing a sermon we started on Friday called God's Secret Promise. Here's Jim. Our Father has promised to give us all that we need... but not if we don't pray! "You have not because you ask not," as the Apostle James put it so succinctly. But doesn't this seem rather cold of God? He knows what we need, He has it ready to ship, but He waits for us to initiate the transaction. Jesus gave us some clues concerning the mysterious relationship between prayer and divine sovereignty. We'll talk about them in a sermon Jim calls God's Secret Promise Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am and WRZN 720AM (Gainesville & Ocala, FL) at 7:30am. Welcome to Day 1577 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomThe Value of Time – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps; thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Today is Day 1577 of our Trek, and it's time for your daily snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Theophrastus, and it is: Time is the most valuable thing a man can spend. The Value of Time Humanly speaking, there is only one genuinely finite item, and that is time. It is the only equalizer of all persons. If we do not die today, we will only have 24 hours, just like every other living person on earth. Short of death, there is no way to change this fact. If we consider time as something precious, then the question is, how will you spend today? I want to rephrase the quote from today in the way I think about time. Time should not be something that we spend or consume; but instead, we invest time. You can invest each day in poor investments and waste today, or you can invest each day in matters that will impact eternity. Let's use the analogy of food and fitness. We can each junk food and not get the proper exercise, which seems pleasurable for a while, or we can eat healthy food and exercise, which will provide us with a much longer and higher quality of life. When we wake and begin each new day, we should ask ourselves, how will I invest the next 24 hours? Will you waste time in that which provides no intrinsic value to you or those you come in contact with, or will you invest that 24 hours into improving yourself and others? When we die, we don't take anything from this world with us, but when we invest in others' lives, and they pay it forward, then our impact will reverberate throughout all eternity. As Christ-followers, we need to invest each day into building God's kingdom on earth, so when Christ returns to set up a renewed Eden where God and humans dwell together, we will see how our investment has multiplied abundantly. Let's invest our time wisely today, planting that which impacts eternity so that we can harvest the rich blessings that God has for each of us. Your life and your time matter; make it count. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians%205%3A15%2D17&version=NLT (Ephesians 5:15-17) So be careful how you live. Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don't act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Colossians+4%3A5-6&version=NLT (Colossians 4:5-6) Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone. As you ponder this nugget of daily wisdom yourself, I would ask you to please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' January 3, 2021 | Pastor Nathan Elms On average, we have tens of thousands of thoughts a day, but we don’t register most of them. We tend to ignore the most repetitive, persistent thoughts, such as the ones that take us through our morning grooming ritual or our daily commute. What we do is so driven by habit that we don’t have to think ourselves through every step. To feel how this works, try brushing your teeth with your nondominant hand. Odd, right? In the same manner that we do not think about habitual actions... we have habitual thoughts, that we think about WITHOUT THINKING about it. • The thoughts you think WITHOUT thinking are who you are… • The thoughts you intentionally think are who you want to become... • We can think just like unbelievers… • We can respond to trouble just like unbelievers… • We can deal with pain just like unbelievers… In fact, re-forming how we think about things is one of the most important things about becoming a believer. 9 Biblical Truths 1. Welcome to Day 1548 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomLoving Those Who Annoy Us – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Today is Day 1547 of our Trek, and it's time for your daily snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Hannah Whitall Smith, and it is: Nothing else but seeing God in everything can make us loving and patient with those who annoy us. When we realize that they are only the instruments for accomplishing His purpose in our lives, we will actually be able to thank them [inwardly] for the blessings they bring us. Loving Those Who Annoy Us Are there people in your life that just tend to annoy you and rub you the wrong way? I know this has been true in my life at times. How should we deal with those people? We need to understand a couple of fundamental truths. First and foremost, we must realize that every person is an imager of God. If we are also to image God, then we must practice God's attributes, which show love and patience to all persons, even if they are annoying, and don't reciprocate love and patience to us. I realize that fully imaging God requires that a person accepts through believing loyalty God's salvation through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is not up to us to make that determination. Just as God accepted us ‘while we were still sinners,' so must we accept others. The second truth that we need to grasp is that God may use those very persons who annoy us to refine and perfect us. We must show love and patience to all, those who are easy to love and those who are not easy to love. Although we may not express it verbally to those who annoy us, we should internally thank them and God for their blessings, allowing us to show love and patience even when we may not feel like it. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2+Peter+1%3A5-8&version=NLT (2 Peter 1:5-8) In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God's promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, I would ask you to please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along on Monday for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' When we see someone sacrifice his own needs for the needs of others, we call that, "noble." God calls it, "normal." "Regard others as more important than yourselves." It's not a difficult sentence to translate - it just seems impossible to do! Sure, we know of mothers who subordinate their wants for the sake of their children; soldiers who give their lives for their country. But these are extraordinary cases. How can we live for others all the time? Jim will give us the answer in the final part of his sermon called, Jesus' Humility and Exaltation. If you're a 5-star General, you don't volunteer to be made a Private. Maybe it's not surprising that the One who "existed in the form of God" could take the form of a mere creature, a mortal, a "slave." But the fact that He would lay down His rank and privileges - that's shocking. Then He turns around and says to us, "Your turn." Here's Jim with Part 2 of Jesus' Humility and Exaltation. Today we're offering a free attitude adjustment! "Have this attitude in yourselves, which was also in Christ Jesus.... " and then Paul goes on to describe a level of humility that's almost beyond imagination. We need to look much more closely at that passage in Philippians, and find out what's really going on there - what's really expected of us. But we'll start in the Gospel of Matthew. Pastor Jim has some opening thoughts in a message he calls Jesus' Humility and Exaltation, on today's Right Start. Welcome to Day 1520 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomNo Darkness, Loneliness, or Abandonment – Wisdom UnpluggedWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek! Where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1520 of our Trek, and it is time for our 3-minute mini trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today's trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Charles Kingsley, and it is: It is not darkness you are going to, for God is light. It is not lonely, for Christ is with you. It is not an unknown country, for Christ is there. No Darkness, Loneliness, or Abandonment During times like we face throughout the entire world with the pandemic, unrest, and polarization between people, we may feel that we are shrouded in darkness, in loneliness, and that the world is a bit unstable. From a purely humanistic perspective, there is some truth to this. As a Christ-follower, we have no reason to feel in this manner. First, we are part of God's kingdom which will last forever. We do not need to depend on earthly government structures for our security. We are sojourners in this world, as citizens of an eternal dwelling. We do not need to feel lonely, because we are one with Christ who promises never to leave us or forsake us. All of our labor should be a "labor of love." Christians are not those poor cubicle-dwellers "working for the weekend." And we don't get the "blue collar blues," either. We know we're serving our Savior at our workplace, and He deserves our best effort all the time. It's gratitude, not money, that drives us. That attitude alone will set us apart in the postmodern workforce. On Friday Jim began a message called God's Will at Work. He mentioned 4 items that make up the divine Employee Evaluation. We'll revisit those, then conclude this sermon from Ephesians, chapter 6. When we look at the occupations of Bible heroes, we find more paper-pushers than priests! We have several shepherds represented - Abraham, Moses, David - but even some of them became bureaucrats. Where did we get this idea that if you're not a "member of the clergy," you're really a second-class kind of Christian? Well, Pastor Jim will take issue with that idea today. Let's enjoy Part 1 of the sermon God's Will at Work. Jim will begin reading from Ephesians chapter 6, verse 5. In the series The Church Advances, Pastor Linda Warren teaches from Acts 15: 1-16:5 that the Lord gives freedom in Christ to live in faith and in fellowship. This passage of Scripture shows how the enemy would try to stop the advance of the gospel by imposing strict rules on believers. But the Bible exposes this enemy tactic because it is for freedom that Christ has set us free.Click the arrow below, or if you're reading this in an email you can click this link, to play the service: This service is available for download free on iTunes, where you can also subscribe to our podcast. When you read Jesus' words about hell, do you get the impression He's trying to tell us that it isn't as bad as we thought? or that hell is much worse than we thought? If hell is real and never-ending, then Jesus was on the most important rescue mission ever, and we have the most important message. Some may "imagine" alternatives, but they fall apart upon examination. There's only one possibility that allows God to be both just, and merciful. Here's Jim with Part 2 of Everlasting Punishment? Is justice good? If justice is good, then hell is good. Hell is justice, God's offer through the Cross is mercy - and proud man says, "I want neither of those." And he imagines alternatives. The Christian doctrine of hell is under assault today, but actually that's nothing new. Flattering lies about the consequences of sin - or lack thereof - go all the way back to the Garden. Our wishful thinking turns out to be more evidence of our rebellion and rottenness. Here's Jim with Part 1 of a sermon that answers the question, Everlasting Punishment? Welcome to Day 1470 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomHard Work – Wisdom UnpluggedWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek! Where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1470 of our Trek, and it is time for our 3-minute mini trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today's trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Helena Rubinstein, and it is: I believe in hard work. It keeps the wrinkles out of the mind and spirit. Hard WorkAs I have mentioned in previous episodes, I grew up on an apple orchard and small farm. There were 12 of us living in an old farmhouse with one bathroom. We didn't have much materially and would be considered poor by most modern standards. In spite of that, for the most part, we grew up happy and did not realize that we were poor. My parents taught my nine siblings and me how to love each other, even when you don't feel like it. We learned how to love others, even when they did not deserve it. We also learned how to work hard in order to survive. You know what? I am so happy that I was able to experience all of that growing up. I do believe in working hard, and not being a victim in life. I never use my childhood as an excuse not to do my very best. As Helena said in our quote for today, hard work has and continues to keep me young. Hard work, indeed, does keep the wrinkles out of my mind and spirit. It allows me to be young of mind and spirit to continue on when others choose to quit. So work hard. Choose to enjoy what you do and be satisfied with the results. Hard work rarely, if ever, causes you harm, or will kill you. Enjoy the journey. The book of Proverbs has several lessons on hard work. Here is one of them. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2021%3A5&version=NLT (Proverbs 21:5) Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. We are also encouraged in: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans%2012%3A11&version=NLT (Romans 12:11) Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Welcome to Day 1465 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomI Believe – Wisdom UnpluggedWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. This is Day 1465 of our Trek, and it is time for our 3-minute mini trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today's trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Jewish refugee, World War II, Poland, and it is: I believe in the sun, even when it isn't shining. I believe in love, even when I am alone. I believe in God, even when He is silent. I BelieveIn order to function and remain sane in a world of ever-increasing chaos requires that we are grounded in a belief system that is grounded in something, or someone that has complete control over every situation we face in life. When you wake up in the morning, and it is cloudy or stormy out, do you think that the sun has completely vanished? Do you believe that you will never see the sun again? Of course not, you know that it is only a temporary and needed situation for life to be sustained on earth. You have faith that someday in the not too distant future that the sun will shine brightly once again. When you are alone or lonely, do you believe that you will never be loved again in your lifetime? The first principle of love is that you must love yourself properly before you can love others properly. When you love others, then, in turn, they will love you. Even when you are alone, you believe that, indeed, you will feel the love of others soon. When it appears that God is silent in your life, and not providing peace and guidance, you must believe that He has a purpose for this season of silence. It may be that you are holding onto that which cannot provide safety and security in your life. We are told in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews%2013%3A5&version=NLT (Hebrews 13:5). Don't love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” When you cannot see the sun, or feel the love of others, or when God is silent, you must turn to God in faith. It is then that our vision becomes clear, and we can be at peace and understand those difficult times in life. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews%2011%3A1%2D3&version=NLT (Hebrews 11:1-3) Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. By faith, we understand that the entire universe was formed at God's command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. That's a wrap for today's Wisdom Unplugged quote. Welcome to Day 1450 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomHow Simple – Wisdom UnpluggedWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. This is Day 1450 of our Trek, and it is time for our 3-minute mini trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today's trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Gerald Jompolsky, and it is: How simple it is to see all the worry in the world cannot control the future. How simple it is to see that we can only be happy now and that there will never be a time when it is not now. How SimpleWorry is so self-destructive since no amount of worry will result in a positive change in any situation. Worry in no way will control the future, except for the possibility of allowing circumstances to slide in a downward spiral. Only action can affect change, which will enable you to control the outcome of the future. Tied closely to worry is the impact that it will have on your happiness of your current situation in life. We only can be happy now, because there is never a time which is not the present. We can look forward to the possibility of a future time, but if worry steals from us the ability to be happy now, then there is little chance we will be happy when the future is now. So we must choose today not to worry, and we must choose today to be happy. That does not mean we don't take action today to change our current circumstances if they need to be changed, but while we are taking action, we must choose not to worry and chose to be happy. To do so is really quite simple. The choice is up to you, and it a choice that you must make each day. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2019%3A7&version=NLT (Psalm 19:7) The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%208%3A5&version=NLT (Proverbs 8:5) You simple people, use good judgment. You foolish people, show some understanding. That's a wrap for today's Wisdom Unplugged quote. Welcome to Day 1432 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomShipwrecked! – Humor UnpluggedWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. This is Day 1432 of our Trek, and time for a 3-minute mini-trek called Humor Unplugged. Our Thursday podcast will provide a short and clean funny story to help you lighten up and live a rich and satisfying life. Something to cheer you and give a bit a levity in your life. We are told in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+15:30&version=NLT (Proverbs 15:30) A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health. We are also encouraged in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+17:22&version=NLT (Proverbs 17:22) A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person's strength. Consider this your vitamin supplement of cheer for today. So let's jump right in with today's funny which is titled: Shipwrecked!Captain Biltmore, an experienced seaman, decided to set sail on a solo journey from Hawaii to the Marshall Islands. It was a very long and somewhat dangerous journey. The Captain departed in late summer for what he anticipated would be a two-week journey. His sailboat was well stocked, and with over 20 years of maritime experience, and five years as a captain, he yearned for the challenge. It was smooth sailing during the first few days, but then he received word that the weather may turn violent within two days. He checked his compass and maps and decided that he could make it to a set of little known islands about three days to his south. It was slightly off course, and more into the direction of the coming storm, but it was his only alternative. Captain Biltmore battled high waves and rough seas, but forge onward to his destination. After two days, his sail was ripped to pieces, and he started throwing cargo overboard to lighten the load. On day three, as he was approaching an uninhabited island, which was still about 40 knots away, his sailboat broke into pieces. Clinging to a large plank of wood which he used as a raft, he grabbed another board to be his paddle. He rowed and rowed for about a day, and finally reached the shore of this small island in complete darkness. Captain Biltmore was so exhausted that he crawled about 100 yards from the coast and collapsed in a deep sleep. When Captain finally woke the next morning, he could not believe what he saw. The sand is dark red. He mumbled, “I can't believe it.” He then looked up into the sky, which was also dark red. Captain Biltmore continued to walk around a bit and sees that dark red grass, dark red birds, and dark red fruit on the dark red trees. He's shocked when he finds that his skin is starting to turn dark red, too. Captain Biltmore screamed at the top of his lungs, “Oh no!! I've been marooned!!” I hope that brought a smile to your face today. If it did pass your smile onto some else, we all could use a kind smile each day. Our Thursday thought is, Someone asked me if you were stranded on a desert island, what book would I bring... ‘How to Build a Boat.'Here is our verse for today: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+13%3A5&version=NLT (Hebrews 13:5) Your lifestyle must be free from the love of money, being content with what you have. For he himself has said, “I will never desert you, and I will never abandon you.” Just as you enjoy these nuggets of...
