Bad online reviews aren't new in veterinary medicine. What's changing is how quickly we respond, and how quickly we sometimes end the relationship by “firing” the client who posted something critical. In the 482nd episode of The Veterinary Viewfinder, Dr. Ernie Ward and Beckie Mossor, MPA, RVT, explore the real question behind legitimate negative reviews: when does a complaint justify firing a client, and when is it an opportunity to improve? They unpack the difference between unsafe behavior and simple dissatisfaction, the emotional toll of public criticism, and how burnout may be shrinking our tolerance. The conversation also digs into power dynamics in medical professions, the shift from negotiation to zero tolerance, and what we lose when we default to dismissal instead of dialogue. This episode offers practical reflection points for veterinarians, technicians, and practice leaders who want clear boundaries without sacrificing professionalism or growth. If your clinic has wrestled with online complaints, or if your team feels emotionally drained by them, this is a thoughtful, grounded conversation worth having. #VeterinaryMedicine #VetLife #VetMedLeadership #PracticeManagement #VeterinaryTeams

The National Consumer Commission has launched an investigation into nine sanitary pad suppliers. This comes after a University of the Free State study found harmful endocrine-disrupting chemicals, including parabens, phthalates, and bisphenols, in some pads and panty liners. The study found these endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are linked to health complications such as hormonal imbalance, infertility, endometriosis, and cancer, affecting millions of South African women and girls monthly. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to the Divisional Head of Complaints and Investigations at the National Consumer Commission, Prudence Moilwa.
On this Ticked Off Tuesday, Jared goes IN on modern everyday chaos: adults who treat a bakery menu like it's the Cheesecake Factory (bring back the 30sec shot clock), group fitness rebels doing the exact opposite of every move, people who somehow still can't open email attachments, and the nonstop-talking plane mom who blocks the aisle while packing her entire life at landing. If you've ever felt spiritually delayed by strangers, this one's for you!Jared is on tour!
Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut In 1999 filmmaker Stanley Kubrick would shoot his final cinematic statement. Adapting a 1926 Freudian novella, Kubrick would (seemingly) explore the dark mysteries of sexual trafficking, secret societies, infidelity, and the paranoia inherent in all of it. A Psycho-Sexual Drama centered around a Masked Ball Orgy and images that would haunt the minds of popular culture, Kubrick's Final Film is troubling, but not for the reasons one may think. Heralded as his "Final Masterpiece" upon its release, Eyes Wide Shut has become far more relevant in the 27 years since its debut. The controversy surrounding Jeffrey Epstein has forged new relevance for Kubrick's swan song, presenting a narrative that far too many film, political, and social critics have latched onto with a misplaced fervor. Celebrated for the light it shines on the powers that control this world, the depravity of their sexual practices, and the honesty Kubrick is credited with exposing, the film is - in actuality - an obvious and simplistic handling of the material. This week Mr. Chavez & I examine Eyes Wide Shut with a focus on on the reality of Jeffrey Epstein, The Epstein Files, National & International Politics, Wealth, and the Ruling Classes. Take a listen for, yet, another discussion of this troubling narrative. Questions, Comments, Complaints, & Suggestions can be directed to gondoramos@yahoo.com. Our Continued Thanks. OA1237 - The U.S. Department of Justice is not sending their best these days. From the problematic indictments of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort for their coverage of the protest of a church in Minnesota whose pastor runs the local ICE field office to the unexpected dismissal of Mohsen Mohdawi's deportation proceedings to a bizarre argument (and more good news) in Kilmar Abrego Garcia's custody proceedings, we are continuing to see what happens when authoritarian lawyering meets actual federal judges applying actual federal law to the facts and parties before them. Finally, in today's footnote: can you sue your ex for telling millions of people about your enormous penis? We debate whether a former football player's claims are giving BDE or legal shrinkage. It's time for Today's Primary Complaint, and the boys are airing this week's grievances loud and proud. Who thought it was a good idea to turn putt putt into daycare? We break down the chaos of kids running wild on the mini golf course and why some places just shouldn't double as recess. A Kaihu local says complaints have previously been made about the same dogs that killed a woman yesterday. 62-year-old Mihiata Te Rore was visiting a person she knew at a property in the small Northland town when she was attacked and killed. Police say the three dogs involved lived at the property. She is the third person to be killed by dogs in Northland in the last four years, sparking calls for more to be done by local and central government to deal with the growing number of dog attacks occurring in the region and further afield. Comment on the Show by Sending Mark a Text Message. When HR goes quiet after a discrimination or wage complaint, that silence is not a mistake—it's a strategy. We unpack how to flip that tactic on its head by turning every unanswered email, hallway brush-off, and delayed “update” into a clean, credible record that strengthens your legal footing and protects your career. From defining protected activity to spotting classic retaliation moves, we walk through the practical steps that shift power back to you.We start with the hard truth: HR is a risk management function, and your complaint introduces risk. That's why documentation is your most reliable ally. You'll learn how to keep a personal log off company systems, capture dates and names, save emails as PDFs, and memorialize verbal conversations with short, professional recaps. Then we set the trap: a calm two-week follow-up that blocks the “slipped through the cracks” excuse and creates a paper trail juries understand. If the silence holds, we climb the internal ladder—handbook channels, hotlines, ombuds—before moving outside the building. When escalation becomes necessary, we break down how to file with the EEOC or your state agency, the typical 180–300 day timelines, and how filings compel a response. We're candid about the realities: this move protects you and also puts a spotlight on you, which is why having an employment attorney in your corner helps you manage risk, pace your steps, and turn negligence into leverage. We also address a costly misstep—resigning too soon. Constructive discharge is hard to prove; a strategic severance based on documented failures is often smarter and faster than a long court fight. You'll walk away with a practical plan: document relentlessly, follow up with precision, use every internal channel, file when needed, and preserve your leverage for resolution. If HR is ignoring you right now, you have more power than you think—you just need to use it well. Content warning: This episode mentions suicide. If you or someone you know has been affected by any of the issues raised in this episode, help is always available. Call Lifeline Australia on 13 11 14. Customer service is part of building a business. It is also one of the fastest ways to test your patience, your boundaries, and your leadership. In this episode, I share several real stories from my own journey, from scaling a 7-figure fashion brand to navigating the early days of my coaching business. Some of them are absurd. Some are terrifying. All of them taught me something important about policies, professionalism, and protecting your energy. Because the complaint itself is rarely the hardest part. It is the emotional weight that comes with it. The back and forth. The temptation to defend yourself. The way one email can hijack your entire day if you let it. Inside this conversation, I walk through how to handle difficult customers without reacting, oversharing, escalating the situation, or damaging your reputation. We cover: Why complaints can feel so personal The importance of responding rather than reacting How to remove emotion from difficult replies When a refund can be a strategic decision How to tighten policies after a challenging situation Protecting your reputation in the age of screenshots Guarding your energy as a founder If you run an online store, sell digital products, or work closely with clients, this is a conversation worth having. Strong boundaries are not harsh. Clear policies are not unkind. Protecting your energy is not optional if you want to build something sustainable. Our first Outlook guest of the year says: I think we're very poor at educating our population about what our government does and what it doesn't do and what our rights are and what they aren't. Late last year he made headlines after a ruling, his case covered by multiple media sources, but the sensationalisation of how much he was awarded in damages became the clickbait detail, in the end letting the company off the hook from having to truly address their discriminatory attitudes and practices. So, in the end, is this truly a win for workers with disabilities or society as a whole? We discuss seven modalities of learning and the benefits of learning braille for the brain and for future career development as we begin the show, with our first guest of 2026 and January, for Braille Literacy Month and our conversation with all three of us and long-time friend, Erik Burggraaf. (Happy ending spoiler, he now has a rewarding job in the federal government only after years of fighting with employers to be given a chance to prove he could do the work.) This week on Outlook we're speaking with our friend about his recent human rights case, a lawsuit win and the media coverage that has followed from his success plus the parts that don't feel like success even still. So how do you know what a legitimate grievance is? How do you know that you have a human rights complaint? Our guest for this one will share his experiences filing human rights cases. It took nearly a decade but Erik was awarded a settlement after proving he was discriminated against when applying for work at a company unable to prove they had exhausted every possible option for making their in-house software accessible and inclusive. Erik Burggraaf shares how those in positions of authority but with no lived experience discouraged him from exploring his full potential and extensive variety of interests as a young person, how he felt he learned more about his own rights from briefly being in the States than all the rest of his life (up until that point) as a Canadian living in the country of his birth, and how he can't imagine what life would be like now if he were to lose the job he currently has helping other federal workers receive the accommodations they need to continue to do the work in the positions they hold. He happily imparts his own knowledge, wisdom, and experiences, hard earned, with us and our listeners. Check out an article and video on the ruling from CTV News: https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/article/im-relieved-blind-ontario-man-awarded-28000-for-facing-discrimination/ And read the full Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario's decision here: https://dawncanada.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Human-Rights-Tribunal-Decision-Erik-Burggraaf-Convergys-.pdf

For more than a week since the initial report from the Wall Street Journal, information about an intelligence community whistleblower report and the accusation that Tulsi Gabbard did not handle the report properly has been slowly leaking to the public. Now it has emerged that Jared Kushner is the subject at the center of the report. Andrew Bakaj, chief legal counsel for Whistleblower Aid, and the attorney for the whistleblower in question, talks with Jen Psaki about where the case stands.Senator Amy Klobuchar joins to discuss Minnesota seeking accountability in the wake of Donald Trump's anti-immigrant surge.Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison talks with Jen Psaki about trying to get federal cooperation in the investigations of the deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.Beyond the near daily new stories about people in Donald Trump's orbit and administration turning up in the Epstein files, the regular business of the Trump administration is in a state of disaster as the economy sputters and Trump's crown jewel anti-immigrant agenda is destroying his approval rating. Jen Psaki paints the picture and explains why even the Trump administration's announcement of the end of the anti-immigrant surge in Minnesota is getting pushback from officials who want to make sure accountability is addressed before ICE heads out to terrorize the next American community. Trigger the We Pay: How a Sworn Proof of Loss Changes Everything https://www.publicadjusterbootcamp.com/ Recorded live at the SRC Summit, this conversation brings together Attorney Shaun Hodge and Public Insurance Adjusters Cal and Melanie Spoon for a blunt, practitioner level breakdown of what actually moves an insurance claim from "stuck" to "resolved." Their core message is simple: most delays, denials, and "frivolous" lawsuits trace back to one root problem, incomplete performance of the policy's Duties After a Loss. When the claim file is built correctly and the Sworn Proof of Loss (SPOL) is submitted as a true package, it triggers the carrier's obligations under the We Pay section, starts real statutory timelines, and forces a decision. From there, the path is clean: pay and close, or breach and face consequences. Expect practical guidance on documentation, process discipline, when to go legal, how to preserve leverage, and why so many professionals unknowingly give the carrier extra time, extra control, and extra "float." Speakers Shaun Hodge: Policyholder Attorney focused on insurance claim litigation and pre suit strategy. Cal Spoon: Public Insurance Adjuster and educator focused on building defensible claim files and contract compliance. Melanie Spoon: Public Insurance Adjuster and operator known for process, documentation standards, and clean file systems that hold up under scrutiny. What You Will Learn Why education is the real separator in claims handling, not influence, hype, or "industry talk." How the SPOL is the carrier's kryptonite because it triggers the first step toward the We Pay obligation. Why the "proof of loss" is not a single page, it is a complete package built from the Duties After a Loss. Why bad faith verdicts are rare, and how most cases never qualify because the policy conditions were not fully met. What the 60 day pre suit notice really does, and how it can become both a delay tool and a leverage point depending on file quality. How to treat the claim like a relay race, where PAs run their lap, then hand off cleanly to counsel at the right moment. Why documentation must be business record quality, not memory, not verbal, not "I remember he said." How supplements and amended SPOL submissions affect timelines, and what does and does not restart the clock. How DRP and managed repair programs should be evaluated against one standard: does it match the SPOL scope and restore pre loss condition. Why appraisal often becomes a "baseball bat" when the dispute is really scope or coverage, not price. The debate around PA fees, historical context, and why they argue it should be treated like other required experts. Key Topics Covered 1) Stop making the contract "gray" The speakers argue the policy is far less confusing than people assume, but it becomes gray when professionals do not follow the Duties After a Loss with precision. 2) The We Pay section is not a suggestion Until the insured's side fulfills the conditions, the carrier can treat payment like a "gimme." Once conditions are met, it becomes obligation. 3) SPOL as leverage, not paperwork They frame the SPOL as the trigger that changes the carrier's risk assessment, shifting you from "low threat" to "this file is dangerous." 4) Why attorneys end up doing adjusting work When a file reaches counsel without proper performance, the attorney spends the pre suit period doing the Duties After a Loss for the first time, which weakens bad faith potential and delays progress. 5) Documentation that survives depositions Contemporaneous field notes, follow up emails, consistent templates, and repeatable process create business records that are admissible and defensible. 6) Timing: do not hand off too early or too late They push a practical expectation that many residential claims should be positioned for resolution or litigation within roughly 60 to 90 days, depending on complexity. 7) Float, delays, and why time is money They explain how carriers benefit when claims linger, and why fast, compliant performance forces either closure or escalation. 8) Engineering reports, rebuttals, and control If a carrier produces a report, you rebut it with specificity and speed. If you do not call out the issues in writing, the carrier later argues they were never given the chance to correct it. 9) Complaints with teeth A complaint should be tied to a clear violation of statute or required timelines, supported by evidence, and copied appropriately including the insured. Memorable Lines and Ideas "You will never force the We Pay section until you perform the Duties After a Loss." "The proof of loss is a package." "Build every file like it's going to war, then hope for peace." "Do not make the attorney become an adjuster. Let the attorney do attorney things." Practical Takeaways You Can Apply Immediately Treat the SPOL as a complete package, not a summary sheet. Run a repeatable process on every claim, no shortcuts, no "this one is different." Memorialize key conversations in writing quickly. Non response often becomes meaningful. Rebut engineer opinions with policy grounded logic and factual corrections, not emotion. Hand off to counsel only when the file is ripe for litigation, not when it is messy. Keep the insured informed early so depositions do not produce surprise, shock, or confusion. Resources Mentioned The concept of insurance "float" often discussed by Warren Buffett. Policy language: Duties After a Loss and We Pay conditions. Industry discussion: managed repair and DRP style programs, appraisal strategy, and statutory timing rules. Disclaimer This episode is for education and discussion only. It is not legal advice. Laws and policy language vary by state and by carrier form. Consult qualified counsel for guidance on any specific claim.
Sextortion complaints have jumped almost 50 percent according to online safety watchdog Netsafe. The online scams are a type of blackmail where someone threatens to share nude images or sexually explicit video of a person unless they get paid or are given more sexual content. On the eve of Valentine's Day Netsafe is reminding people to be careful; romance scams remain among the top ten reported to the watchdog. Netsafe's chief online safety officer Sean Lyons spoke to Lisa Owen.

First up, Jared's fresh off a Fort Lauderdale to NYC to Boston travel day and gets sent into a spiral by his beloved snow boots: thick laces, constant untying, and the emotional journey from single-knot optimism to double-knot resignation.A listener follows with a very relatable airline rage: paying for a carry-on but still being forced to gate-check it, which sends Jared into a full “take boarding zones seriously” fantasy that you'll want to hear in his exact tone. Other complaints hit the NYC snow-removal chaos and the eternal scam of street cleaning that mostly just… rearranges dirt. Finally, a listener vents about being completely turned off by dating app profiles that lead with negativity about the apps themselves. Jared is on tour!

Trump and Pam Bondi's latest attempt to abuse a federal judge into submission has met with defeat, as the Chief Judge of the 6th Circuit has effectively exonerated Chief Judge Boesberg in DC of any ethics violations or misconduct. Popok explains that Judge Boesberg presides over a series case of civil liberties and rights violations and possible contempt charges against the DOJ and Kristi Noem, and that the DOJ or its agents have filed a half a dozen such complaints against Judges and NONE have been successful.
