Welcome to Day 1686 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomAbusive Power – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today's trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16&version=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! We are on Day 1686 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Alexander Hamilton, and it is: A fondness for power is implanted in most men, and it is natural to abuse it when acquired. Abusive Power We all like to be in control and have power over others. Unfortunately, for some, this thirst for power will slowly grow and will turn into abusive power. We are all leaders in some area of our life. Leadership can take the form of a parent with your children or a teacher with your students. Maybe you are a manager, supervisor, or mentor to someone. Regardless, we have the ability to both lead and exert power over many people during the coruse of our lives. The question is, will you abuse the power that had been given to you? Will you exert it over others to control or manipulate them? Defined control and power are taught in the Bible. Jesus had the power of God coursing through his human frame, and yet, he never abused that power. He taught his disciples that if you desire to be first in the kingdom of God, you must be a servant on earth. Jesus lays out how we can be powerful in God's kingdom in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+20%3A25-28&version=NLT (Matthew 20:25-28,) But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' "But we've always done it this way" wouldn't have seemed like a good argument in the young church. The changes are breathtaking in those early years - God is opening up the church, opening up the ministry, moving, expanding. And the devil isn't doing a very good job of keeping up. Friday we opened the 11th and 12th chapters of Acts to try to get a sense of what's happening in this blur of motion. Here's Jim to continue that sermon. We think our world is changing fast - but we've got nothing on the first century! Even after Jesus ascended, tidal waves of change continued to break. The Jewish sect called The Way was flooded with Gentiles; the persecutor Saul became the persecuted Paul; evangelism was democratized. It's that last "disruption" that Jim would like to talk about today, in his sermon, Empowering People to be Witnesses. Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am and WRZN 720AM (Gainesville & Ocala, FL) at 7:30am. Welcome to Day 1575 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomThe Storm Within – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Today is Day 1575 of our Trek, and it's time for another snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Ralph Waldo Emerson, and it is: The wise man in the storm prays to God, not for safety from danger, but for deliverance from fear. It is the storm within which endangers him, not the storm without. The Storm Within None of us desires to go through hardships and difficulties. Our first instinct is to cry out to God to be kept safe and be rescued from the storm. What we fail to realize, just like storms in nature have a cleansing purpose, so do the storms roll through our lives. When we are in the midst of the storm, we become fearful and wish the storm would cease. However, we need the strength to withstand the storm and peace within the storm. This is only possible when we are entirely reliant on the One who controls all storms. The most significant potential for harm from the storms of life is when we allow fear to seize us and hold us. The internal storms in which we struggle is what endangers us. Like the wind and the rain cleans the air and refreshes the soil, the wind and showers within us have a cleaning effect on our souls. So be a wise person. The next time you are in one of the many storms of life, instead of praying for safety from the dangers and effects of the storm, pray instead for deliverance from fear so you can persevere through the storm. Once the storm has passed, it is then you will see more clearly its purpose as the bright sunshine of God's love warms your soul. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2010%3A25&version=NLT (Proverbs 10:25) When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+8%3A38-39&version=NLT (Romans 8:38-39) And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' Welcome to Day 1545 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomLosers Yearn While Winners Learn – Wisdom UnpluggedWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps, thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Today is Day 1545 of our Trek, and it's time for another snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Unknown, and it is: Losers yearn for the past and get stuck in it. Winners learn from the past and let go of it. Losers Yearn While Winners Learn We all have a past, but we cannot live there. It is your choice to determine if you look back on your past, thinking that they are the ‘good old days' that you wish to return to, or if you will learn the lessons from the past. The past can teach us many things, but you cannot continue to live there, it is gone. We must learn the lessons, both the good experiences and those which were devastating. If you don't learn from the past lessons but continue to yearn for that time, there is no way to move forward. You will be forever quagmired in a time which will never return. In that situation, you are losing twice. You have not learned from the past, and you are paralyzed because you are not moving forward. Instead of always looking back and wishing, learn the lessons that those experiences have taught you and look forward with hope and expectancy to a much better and brighter future. So today, make your choice, are you going to yearn or learn? It is your choice. The wisest person who ever lived, King Solomon, taught us this lesson, https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2019%3A25&version=NLT (Proverbs 19:25) If you punish a mocker, the simpleminded will learn a lesson; if you correct the wise, they will be all the wiser. In the later years of his life, he also tells us in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ecclesiastes%207%3A10&version=NLT (Ecclesiastes 7:10) Don't long for “the good old days.” This is not wise. That's a wrap for today's Wisdom Unplugged quote. If you would like free access to my database of over 11,000 inspirational quotes, the link is available on the main page of Wisdom-Trek.com. In Extravagant: Discovering a Life of Dangerous Generosity, Pastor Brady Boyd shows us that by constantly offering up our time, talents, and hearts we can live life more like these exceptional people. Drawing on the parable of the Good Samaritan, he encourages us to stop living a life driven by selfish desire and start building lasting relationships that will be spiritually fulfilling.
We want to control. God wants us to receive. Our pride will never produce humility, and our stubbornness will never grow meekness within us. But that pretty much describes our plan for spiritual growth. Our loving Father has a different plan; one that was designed into us before we were born. Here's Jim to conclude his sermon, I Will Gift You Rest. Jesus wants to lift your load. The Good News is that God has come to us, to our zip code, to our address. And He hasn't come to beat us down, but to get under our burden and lift it for us - if we'll let it go! Yesterday we began a sermon based on those famous words of Jesus, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." That's very good news, indeed. But there's even more than rest in this new relationship with God. Everyone loves a good show - especially when there's free food! People were willing to come to Jesus to be healed, to hear a good sermon, and to be fed. But He was interested in meeting their deeper needs - like peace with God, freedom from the yoke of the Law, and inner transformation. And that message was finding a much smaller audience. Today, as we continue to learn about The Righteousness of Jesus Christ, we'll look at the pivotal moment in His public ministry. Welcome to Day 1517 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomChurch Conflict – Humor UnpluggedWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek! Where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your Captain on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1517 of our Trek, and time for a 3-minute mini-trek called Humor Unplugged. Our Thursday podcast will provide a short and clean funny story to help you lighten up and live a rich and satisfying life. Something to cheer you and give a bit a levity in your life. We are told in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+15:30&version=NLT (Proverbs 15:30) A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health. We are also encouraged in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+17:22&version=NLT (Proverbs 17:22) A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person's strength. Consider this your vitamin supplement of cheer for today. So let's jump right in with today's funny which is titled: Church ConflictWhile conflict in the church is no laughing matter, and I really appreciate those who pastor our churches, sometimes we have to sit back, relax, and enjoy a humorous story. There was a conflict brewing at the Wayside Community Church over several months between Pastor Frank and Dorothy, the song leader. Each week it was becoming evident to many in the congregation that they may not be getting along. As weeks grew into months, this conflict began to spill over into the worship service. The first week Pastor Frank preached on commitment and how we all should dedicate ourselves to the service of God. At the end of the service, Dorothy led the congregation in the song “I Shall not be Moved.” The second week Pastor Frank preached on tithing and how we all should gladly give to the work of the Lord. At the end of the service, Dorothy led the congregation in the song “Jesus Paid it All.” In the third week, Pastor Frank preached on gossiping and how we should all watch our tongues. At the end of the service, Dorothy led the congregation in the song “I Love to Tell the Story.” Pastor Frank's frustration continued to grow each week. With all this going on, Pastor Frank became very disgusted over the situation, and the following Sunday, he told the congregation that he was considering resigning. At the end of the service, Dorothy led the congregation in the song, “Oh Why Not Tonight?” That was the straw that broke the camel's back. On the fifth Sunday, after Pastor Frank preached, he solemnly said that it was Jesus who led him to the church, and it was Jesus that was taking him away, and he officially resigned. After Pastor Frank sat down, the song leader, Dorothy, led the congregation in the song “What a friend we have in Jesus!” I hope that brought a smile to your face today. If it did pass your smile onto some else, we all could use a kind smile each day. Our Thursday thought is, “God didn't create anything without a purpose, but mosquitoes and roaches come close.” Here is our verse for today: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews%2010%3A25&version=NLT (Hebrews 10:25) And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Just as you enjoy these nuggets of humor, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' “One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: ‘Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?’ Jesus replied, ‘What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?’ The man answered, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ‘Right!’ Jesus told him. ‘Do this and you will live!’” – Luke 10:25-27 Matthew 22:36-40 Mark 12:28-31

Luke 22:66-23:25 Jesus Before Pilate and Herod66 At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them. 67 “If you are the Messiah,” they said, “tell us.”Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me, 68 and if I asked you, you would not answer. 69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”70 They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?”He replied, “You say that I am.”71 Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips.”23 Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate. 2 And they began to accuse him, saying, “We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king.”3 So Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?”“You have said so,” Jesus replied.4 Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”5 But they insisted, “He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee and has come all the way here.”6 On hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean. 7 When he learned that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.8 When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort. 9 He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer. 10 The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him. 11 Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate. 12 That day Herod and Pilate became friends—before this they had been enemies.13 Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people,14 and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him. 15 Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death. 16 Therefore, I will punish him and then release him.” [17] [a]18 But the whole crowd shouted, “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!” 19 (Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)20 Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again. 21 But they kept shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”22 For the third time he spoke to them: “Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him.”23 But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. 24 So Pilate decided to grant their demand.25 He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.

Luke 10:25-37 The Parable of the Good Samaritan25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]”28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

This week, host Jerrad Lopes introduces listeners to Aaron Smith, a husband, father and founder of Husband Revolution, an online marriage ministry. Aaron's goal in ministry is to revive the hearts of husbands and fathers around the world. Listen as Aaron speaks about combating our human tendency to compare ourselves to others, parenting techniques, church community, and other thought-provoking topics. This episode will leave you inspired and encouraged in your role as a husband and father. You'll definitely want to take notes! Host: Jerrad Lopes Guest: Aaron Smith is a husband and father who has always had a passion for sharing the gospel with the world. After getting married in 2007 to Jennifer Smith ( Unveiled Wife ), he and his wife became missionaries in Africa. Throughout the first four and a half years of marriage he and his wife experienced many struggles but found restoration through the grace of God, and out of those trials was birthed an online marriage ministry (HusbandRevolution.com). His heart now is directed towards encouraging husbands in their walks with Christ and their marriage. His hope is to see a revival in the hearts of husbands around the world. He believes that if husbands would humble themselves and turn toward God that the message of Christ would be advanced greater than ever before. Scripture References: Ephesians 5:25-30" Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.[a] 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body." Fowler #25 scores! (Credit: Getty Images / Dilip Vishwanat)You don't even have to like baseball to have heard about the Cardinals bottom of the 9th win against the World Series Champion Chicago Cubs last night. With both teams garnering a lot of fans on this opening night for the Cards, there was a lot of tension in the air in Busch Stadium. After a Cardinals season that could be described as flawed, flat, and full of faults, these St. Louis sluggers seemed to find fun in the fundamentals last night. With no errors in this exciting win, it seems getting back to the basics and focusing on fundamentals paid off. If you are struggling through a flawed and flat season of life, consider refocusing on one fundamental to jump-start a new season. In the Bible, Jesus reoriented his people during that great Sermon on the Mount by telling them to focus on this fundamental idea when He shares, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." (Matthew 6:33) Today, enjoy a fresh season of life with a new focus on the fundamental teachings of Jesus. You'll be glad you did. Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy Welcome to Day 570 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom His Infinite Wisdom – Wisdom Unplugged Thank you for joining us for our 5 days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. This is https://wisdom-trek.com/day-570/ (Day 570) of our trek, and it’s time for a 3-minute mini-trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little additional content for today's trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let's jump right in with today's nugget. Today's quote is from J.P. de Caussade who said, “Since God offers to manage our affairs for us, let us once and for all hand them over to His infinite wisdom, in order to occupy ourselves only with Himself and what belongs to Him.” Most of us try to control every detail of our lives and many times the lives of others. Much of the worry, anxiety, and drama that we have in our lives is because we feel out of control. We feel that the bad things of life are going to hit us, and there is little we can do about it. It is virtually impossible to control others, and many aspects of our own lives are beyond our direct control. God does give us free will, which allows us to try and control our lives and gives us the false sense that we can control circumstances. God also tells us in His Word that He will take care of us so we can turn over to Him all of the worry and anxiety that consumes our lives. God has infinite wisdom. He knows what is best for our lives. Instead of being occupied with all the things we cannot control, let is impact for good what we can and leave the rest to God. As Jesus taught us in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=matt+6%3A25-27&version=NLT (Matthew 6:25-27), “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn't life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” Let us focus on living a right life as Jesus said in Matthew https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=matt+6%3A33&version=NLT (6:33), “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” That's a wrap for today's Wisdom Unplugged. The start of 2014 has been . . . interesting so far. The new year started with some situations that needed to be resolved. Two weeks in, I can say that clarity has been given for one issue and focus and direction is coming in another. Doors are opening, (after all, we are in the Jewish year 5774, the year of open doors) and I'm excited to see what God has for me around the corner. But the very beginning of 2014 started out wonderfully. It started with fellowship with wonderful friends and the first minutes of 2014 brought an answer to prayer, a really fast yes, and what I know is the beginning of a breakthrough. Blessings by Text The first day of 2014 started out with blessings by text from friends and family. I've written them down in my prayer journal and have made them a part of my morning devotion for the year. From my mom: Numbers 6:24-26: The Aaronic Blesssing May the Lord bless you and keep you, (Watch, guard, and keep) May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you (enlighten, kind, merciful and giving favor) May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace. (tranquility of heart and life continually through the new year.) Jesus loves you and so do we. :) A pretty awesome welcome to bring in the new year. Positioned for Promise And from my friend Katherine: Are you positioned for promise? And I had to ask myself, "Am I?" Am I in the exact place God wants me? The place where his blessings for my life are waiting? At that particular moment, I wasn't sure. That was actually a prayer that I had a few weeks before, that I and the people I was with would be in exactly the right position that God had for us and that we would know it. And so she gave me a verse Proverbs 3:6: Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. ~ NLT The NIV translates "seek his will" as "Submit to him". The NASB translates it as: In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Part of the way to prepare yourself for seeking and walking in his will is given in Philippians 4:4-8 4 Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! 5 Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. If the primary fruits of the spirit are peace, joy and love, those should be evidenced in our lives. Jesus said that he came so that his joy may remain in us and that our joy may be full. (John 15:11) If we are an anxious, stressed-out grumpy Gus,
