Welcome to Day 1728 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomFriends and Enemies – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1728 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.   Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today's trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16&version=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!    If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Zig Ziglar, and it is: A hundred friends are not enough, but one enemy is too much. Friends And Enemies Very few people have enough energy and time to invest in more than a few close friends. That being said, there is no real limit on the number of friendly acquaintances you may have over your lifetime. Fortunate is the person who surrounds themselves with others who will assist, support, and love them. Interestingly, most of us have many friends and acquaintances, but it only takes one person who does not like us to spoil our mindset. I see this situation magnified on social media sites. People may get a thousand likes or positive comments on something they publish, but if they receive one negative comment, they dwell on that one negative comment instead of the thousand positive ones.  We all fall prey to this mindset, but let us break free of these shackles and focus on good things. With friends and many other situations in life, if we are not careful, we will allow our mindset to drift into a negative pattern. We need to be focused on good, strengthening our body, mind, and soul. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+4%3A8-9&version=NLT (Philippians 4:8-9) And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you. As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. We are on Day 1693 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Bruce Lee, and it is: A goal is not always meant to be reached; it often serves simply as something to aim at. Aim at the Goal As I have often mentioned, it is good to set goals and then create as detailed a plan as possible to reach those goals. But, of course, the farther out the goal, the less precise the distant plans will be. In fact, along the way, you may need to readjust your goal from what you had initially intended. Changing or resetting goals is fine and can be healthy. Unfortunately, we cannot know with certainty what our future will hold. There will be many twists and turns, mountains and valleys that we must traverse before reaching our destination. Once goals are set, you should have scheduled checkpoints along the way where you stop, assess your current situation and then ask these three questions. Is the original goal still the destination we desire? Are we still heading towards our goal? What adjustments do we need to make to reach our goal? If you answer no to the first question, then pause and determine what your new destination is and modify plans accordingly. If your goal hasn't changed, but you are off course, then decide how you got off course and why. After you have analyzed how and why you are off the path, then make appropriate adjustments to keep heading in the direction of your destination. Adjust your course or change the destination as needed. Finally, realize that the lesson learned through this analysis contributes to your success during your trek of life. You will never ultimately fail in life unless you choose to quit altogether. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+25%3A8-9&version=NLT (Psalm 25:8-9) The Lord is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray. He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way. When you read the term “toxic people,” who comes to mind? A coworker? A family member? Someone at church? Maybe it's a group of people who feed off of one another in the worst of ways. What makes someone toxic? What's the difference between a toxic person and someone who's broken and needs extra love? How do you know when it's time to walk away from a toxic person? In this “best of” episode of God Hears Her, Elisa and Eryn take us through a previous conversation with Gary Thomas who will be leading us in a discussion of how to recognize and when to walk away from toxic people.   About our guest:  Gary Thomas is the best-selling author of over 20 books including the topic of today's show: When to Walk Away: Finding Freedom from Toxic People. Gary serves on the teaching team at Second Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, and has been married to his wife, Lisa, for 35 years. They have three adult children and a granddaughter.   Notes and Quotes:  “Walking away isn't always a statement of failure; it's a statement of strategy.” If we let toxic people control our thoughts and focus, then we lose sight of the purpose God has for us. “Here's my voice, here's my mission” . . .  and don't let a toxic person distract you from that mission. Women in their fifties will look back at the toxic people from their twenties and laugh at how insignificant those people have become in their lives. “Gaslighting is when somebody makes you feel like you're crazy when you are speaking the truth.” “When you question your own sanity, they are destroying your foundation.” “All toxic people are difficult, but not all difficult people are toxic.” “Toxic people love to act in a toxic manner. Healthy people will occasionally act in a toxic way.” “Toxic people often use toxic language. . . . They don't want you to act like a Christian to please God, they are using your desire to please God as a weapon to control you.”   Links/Books/Resources Mentioned In Show:  Show Notes on godhearsher.org God Hears Her website: https://www.godhearsher.org/ Subscribe on iTunes!  https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/god-hears-her-podcast/id1511046507?utm_source=applemusic&utm_medium=godhearsher&utm_campaign=podcast Order God Sees Her: 365 Devotions for Women by Women on Amazon.  https://amzn.to/32lYSgh Order Gary's book When to Walk Away: Finding Freedom from Toxic People on Amazon. https://amzn.to/3kt8eyp  Free eBooklet to Download: When Violence Comes Home: Help for Victims of Spousal Abuse https://discoveryseries.org/courses/when-violence-comes-home/ Elisa's Instagram: elisamorganauthor Eryn's Instagram: eryneddy Gary's Instagram: garythomasbooks   Verses Mentioned in Show:  John 15:8 NIV “This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+15%3A8&version=NIV  Mark 11:12–25 Jesus Curses a Fig Tree https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark+11%3A12-25&version=NIV  Matthew 6:33 NIV “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+6%3A33&version=NIV  Matthew 7:6 NIV “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. Welcome to Day 1669 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomThe Importance of Others – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1669 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Mahatma Gandhi, and it is: A customer is the most important visitor on our premises, he is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so. The Importance of Others This quote from Mahatma Gandhi is very true from a business perspective. So often, owners and employees of businesses and companies of any type lose sight of what is most important. We need to expand this thought though to churches, non-profit organizations, our families, and any place we find ourselves where we have an opportunity to serve others. Everyone whom God allows us to cross paths with should be important to us. We live on a thin silver cord where we are dependent on so many others for our existence. We should not view others as an interruption to our lives but by God's grace and opportunity to serve another imager of God. Yes, we should pour ourselves into others, and by doing so, we can impact their lives for all eternity. We must keep an exponential mindset that we are a multiplying factor in all we come in contact with. If they pass on what you have given them, your service will multiply hundreds of times through eternity. Let us never lose sight of this impact. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Peter+4%3A8-11&version=NLT (1 Peter 4:8-11) Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay. God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. We are invited to know God, and this is accomplished by knowing His Word and following His precepts found in His Word. We are responsible for the revelation that God has provided to us, but there is so much that we will not understand, and that is ok. By faith, we believe, even when we may not fully comprehend God and his plan for the world and each of us individually. So it has been since the creation of humankind, we walk by faith, not by sight. Unlike those from the time of creation through when God came to earth through the incarnation of Jesus Christ, we do have God's complete revelation to humans, which is His Word. God's Word contains all that He chose to reveal to us, but we still have much we do not know about God, His ways, and how He works. Our focus needs to be on building God's kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. We aim to restore Eden, where God, His divine creatures, and humankind will dwell together as we serve Him. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah+55%3A8-9&version=NLT (Isaiah 55:8-9) “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%202%3A9&version=NLT (1 Corinthians 2:9) That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' There's a book-burning in Ephesus tonight. Let's make s'mores! Authoritarians and activists burn books because they're afraid - afraid of the ideas inside them. Occultists who turn to the Lord burn their mystical books because they're renouncing dark powers - they've been set free from fear. That's what happened in the idolatrous city of Ephesus. In this edition Jim will wrap up his sermon called God's 2-Year Visit to Ephesus. We're in the book of Acts, chapter 19. Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am. Paul isn't exactly touring the "garden spots." For a year-and-a-half the Apostle had ministered from that slimy "city of ill repute," Corinth. After another road trip with stops including his old stomping grounds Antioch and Jerusalem, Paul landed in Ephesus. That town was the center of Artemis-worship; and where there are idols, there are demons. Did all the occult activity hamper the work of God there? Welcome to Day 1645 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Cheerful Mind – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek. We are on Day 1645 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from George Matthew Adams, and it is: A cheerful frame of mind, reinforced by relaxation...is the medicine that puts all ghosts of fear on the run. A Cheerful Mind  Why do we find today so many people who are anxious and fearful? Ultimately all unfounded fear or anxiety is due to a lack of faith that God has everything under His control. As a Christ-follower, we should be filled with joy and, in most situations, be able to have a cheerful mindset. When we can rest in God's protection and provision, it reinforces our faith that God is in control. It is essential to reinforce our mindset with God's precepts found in His Word to relax in the truths that we have no reason to be anxious or fearful.  A joyful spirit produces a cheerful mind. It will act like medicine to help you relax about the issues that are causing anxiety and fear. When you can relax and be joyful, even during those times that may cause you to fear, you will soon understand that the fear fades away, and you are no longer anxious. Anxiety and fear will become a ghost and quickly fade away from your mind. I understand that each of us has weaknesses where we allow fear and anxiety to seize hold of us, and our faith may falter. God understands this also. While I have not counted them personally, I have read many times that there are 365 verses in God's Word to overcome and conquer fear. That is one for each day of the year. So, do not fear or be anxious. Instead, cultivate a joyful and cheerful mind, and reinforce it daily so that you can relax in God's provision and strength. Draw on that strength. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Joshua+1%3A8-9&version=NLT (Joshua 1:8-9) Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord, your God is with you wherever you go.” https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+17%3A22&version=NLT (Proverbs 17:22) A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person's strength.  As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' It's infectious.    Infectious Attitude Attitude will make or break a family, a church, or any type of organization.  If there is a person with a bad attitude, it is like cancer cells that will slowly start to invade and then destroy the organization from the inside out. It is undoubtedly the worst thing that can happen to a group of people.  If a negative attitude is permitted to exist, it will spread just like cancer until it takes over that group's focus and direction. Just like cancer, it must be cut out to avoid any further damage to the host. As with any surgery, this process can be excruciating but is required to spare the organization's life. The treatment or surgery must be administered as soon as the bad attitude is detected.  With cancer, even after it is purged from the body, continual monitoring must is required after the surgery or treatment to ensure that cancer does not return. It will be the same for attitude in any organization. As Zig Ziglar is quoted, “you need a check-up from the neck up.” Continual monitoring will ensure that the organization remains healthy. Once good health has returned to our bodies, eating well and regular exercise will help maintain good health. In an organization, a continual diet of positive attitudes and accomplishments will ensure many years of success. Good attitudes are also infectious, but positively. Like a small packet of yeast will permeate a large amount of dough, so it is with a positive attitude that it will spread through the family, church, company, or any other organization. When you purge the bad, you must replace it with good. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%2015%3A33&version=NLT (1 Corinthians 15:33) Don't be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.” https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Peter%203%3A8&version=NLT (1 Peter 3:8) Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, I would ask you to please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along on Monday for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps; thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Today is Day 1588 of our Trek, and it's time for your daily snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Peter Lord, and it is:  We have no control over how we feel, how we act — our attitudes and actions — except as they are determined by our thoughts.     Determined By Our Thoughts I am sure you have heard the saying ‘you are what you eat.' I understand the meaning behind this statement, but you don't become a hamburger when you eat one. A better saying which is far more accurate is, ‘you are what you think about.' On most days it may not seem like we have control over how we feel, how we act, or our attitudes and actions. It is because all these elements are irrevocably tied together. The missing component in the last two sentences is that it does not consider our thought process. Since we do have control over what we think, it is possible to control our attitudes and actions completely. All thoughts can be divided into two basic categories: true and false. The thoughts that come from God are true. He is the God of all truth and has sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in us and guide us into all truth. If I can receive God's thoughts, I can think the truth. Therefore I will have the right attitudes and actions. Consider a glass of water. You have heard the saying, ‘is the glass half full or half empty.' It is neither; it is entirely full, with half water and half air. The question then becomes, ‘How do you get the air out of a glass?' By filling it with water. The same applies to our minds. How do you get rid of wrong and untrue thoughts? By filling your mind with true and right thoughts from God. The control of our thought life, then, comes by thinking God's thoughts with Him. Once we have our thoughts controlled by truth, then how we feel and act, our attitudes and actions will be under control. That is, controlled by God's Spirit which dwells within us. We are God's temple where He resides. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians%204%3A8&version=NLT (Philippians 4:8) And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, I would ask you to please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along on Monday for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps; thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Today is Day 1566 of our Trek, and it is Worldview Wednesday. Creating a Biblical Worldview is essential to have a proper perspective on today's current events. To establish a Biblical Worldview, you must have a proper understanding of God and His Word. This week, we will continue reviewing the book from Dr. Michael S Heiser titled “Supernatural.” The book is an abbreviated version of his more comprehensive book, “The Unseen Realm.” I highly recommend both of these books. Creating a Biblical Worldview based on how the Old and New Testaments connect with God's overall plan for humanity is essential. This book review will help us understand what the Bible teaches about the unseen world, and why it matters. Supernatural Intent In the last chapter, we saw how the Old Testament presents the messiah by hiding him in plain sight. The key to God's plan to restore Eden and redeem humanity was for the messiah, Jesus, to die on the cross and then rise from the dead. Only by becoming a man could God ensure that a human king from David's line would rule over his people without falling into sin and straying spiritually. Only if that king died in the place of his people and rose from the dead could God rightly judge sin and provide salvation all at the same time. Only by the messiah's death and resurrection would fallen people still have a place in God's family council, ruling in that renewed Edenic kingdom, as originally planned. But think about all that required: Jesus had to somehow make sure the supernatural powers of darkness manipulated men to kill him—without understanding what they were doing. As Paul had said to the Corinthians (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Corinthians+2%3A8&version=NLT (1 Corinthians 2:8)), But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord. The life and ministry of Jesus may make more sense when viewed against that backdrop. It's easy for readers of the New Testament, for instance, to get the impression that Jesus' ministry leading up to the cross was somewhat random. After all, the Gospels don't always present the same episodes—for example, the birth of Jesus is found in only two of them (Matthew and Luke), and only one mentions the wise men (Matthew 2). Sometimes scenes appear in a slightly different order in different gospels. But those acts of Jesus recorded in the Gospels leading up to the crucifixion—healing the sick, preaching about the kingdom of God, forgiving sinners, confronting hypocrisy‌—were more than the random acts of a traveling wise man who occasionally did miraculous things. There's more going on in the gospel stories than meets the eye. There's an essential subtext to what Jesus was doing. Outwitting Evil The event that marked the beginning of Jesus' public ministry was his baptism. The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! When we read those words from John, we think immediately about the crucifixion. But John's disciples weren't thinking about that. Frankly, no one was. When, close to the end of his ministry—over three years after his baptism—Jesus began to speak of his death, his disciples rejected the idea (Matthew 17:22–23; Mark 9:30–32). January 3, 2021 | Pastor Nathan Elms On average, we have tens of thousands of thoughts a day, but we don’t register most of them. We tend to ignore the most repetitive, persistent thoughts, such as the ones that take us through our morning grooming ritual or our daily commute. What we do is so driven by habit that we don’t have to think ourselves through every step. To feel how this works, try brushing your teeth with your nondominant hand. Odd, right? In the same manner that we do not think about habitual actions... we have habitual thoughts, that we think about WITHOUT THINKING about it. • The thoughts you think WITHOUT thinking are who you are… • The thoughts you intentionally think are who you want to become... • We can think just like unbelievers… • We can respond to trouble just like unbelievers… • We can deal with pain just like unbelievers… In fact, re-forming how we think about things is one of the most important things about becoming a believer. 9 Biblical Truths 1. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps; thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Today is Day 1552 of our Trek, and it's time for your daily snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from  Martin Luther King, Jr., and it is:  Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. Things That Matter  Let me ask you, what things matter to you? Are you silent about the things that truly matter? With today's social media frenzy and 24-hour news cycles, we see many people get very excited about whatever the current hot button for the day is, but do most of those things really matter? Can you even remember what the headlines of the day were a year ago, five years ago, or ten years ago? Probably not, and yet they seemed to be so crucial at the time. The things that truly matter are those things that endure over the decades and centuries. They are love, justice, and compassion for fellow humans throughout the world, not only in our little corner of the world. What matters is not empire building, but the continual establishment of God's kingdom on earth. These are the things that we cannot remain silent. God's kingdom, and our love for humankind, are of utmost importance, and these are not tied to any particular country or ethnic group but all humanity. It is such a simple concept, yet we seem to fall short of putting it into practice. The prophet Micah summed it up in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Micah%206%3A8&version=NLT (Micah 6:8) No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. We try to complicate the issues, we get riled up, protest, and treat our fellow humans horribly about so many things that don't matter for eternity, and yet we remain silent on the fundamental principles found in God's Word. Jesus Christ taught us that all laws are summed up in two principles which are found in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+22%3A36-39&version=NLT (Matthew 22:36-39): “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses? Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” Let us not remain silent on things that matter. As you ponder this nugget of daily wisdom yourself, I would ask you to please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Today is Day 1550 of our Trek, and it's time for another snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from  J. Robert Maskin, and it is:    One of life's gifts is that each of us, no matter how tired and downtrodden, finds reasons for thankfulness.     Reasons for Thankfulness As we approach the end of a year, which has been difficult for most of the world, I find that many have expressed how tired and downtrodden they feel. Even though Granny and my daily routine has not changed that much this year, we have become weary of it all.  This year has been full of uncertainty, unrest, contested elections, illness of loved ones, aging parents in decline, and negative financial impact for many. So what should our mindset be at times like this? No matter how tired and downtrodden you may feel, the gift of life given to us by an all-loving God helps us find reasons for thankfulness each day. Yes, life is difficult, and many days it feels like we are building on shifting unstable sand. Regardless of the daily uncertainties, we can have confidence that beneath that shifting sand is a solid bedrock that is our foundation. God is our foundation, and He does not change like shifting shadows from day to day. He is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. Even though you may be going through a challenging year and looking forward to next year, realize that even in the most challenging situation, even when you are tired and downtrodden, you can and should always find reasons for thankfulness. When we are tired we need rest. Rest in the following three verses. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%206%3A48&version=NLT (Luke 6:48) It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews%2013%3A8&version=NLT (Hebrews 13:8) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=James%201%3A17&version=NLT (James 1:17) Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. Welcome to Day 1536 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.I am Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomDivine Rebellions – Worldview WednesdayWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. Today is https://wisdom-trek.com/captivate-podcast/day-1536/ (Day 1536) of our trek, and it is Worldview Wednesday. Creating a Biblical Worldview is essential to have a proper perspective on today's current events. To establish a Biblical Worldview, you must have a proper understanding of God and His Word. This week, we will expand on the past course work as we continue reviewing the book from Dr. Michael S Heiser titled Supernatural. The book is an abbreviated version of his more comprehensive book The Unseen Realm. I highly recommend both of these books. Creating a Biblical Worldview based on how the Old and New Testaments connect with God's overall plan for humanity is essential. This book review will help us understand what the Bible teaches about the unseen world and why it matters. Cosmic Geography The divine transgressions we looked at in the previous chapter had something in common. They were both supernatural rebellions aimed at co-opting God's plan for humanity and the restoration of his rule. In this chapter review, we'll look at another rebellion, one that originated with people. This rebellion produced a predicament that we're all still part of, and that predicament involves supernatural beings. The titanic struggle for God's restoration strategy took a turn for the worse that only the return of Jesus will finally resolve. The Tower of BabelThe story of the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1–9) is simultaneously one of the best-known and least-understood accounts in the Bible. Children learn about it in Sunday school as the time when God confused earth's human languages. After the flood, God repeated the command he'd given to Adam and Eve to cover the earth. He was trying to kick-start the spread of his ruling influence through humanity. Once again, it didn't work. People refused. Rebellion in their hearts, they had a better idea, or so they thought. They decided to build a tower to avoid being scattered (Genesis 11:4). The logic seems odd. Sure, an amazing tower would make them famous (Genesis 11:4), but how would that prevent scattering across the earth? The answer lies in the tower. Bible scholars and archaeologists know ancient Babylon, and cities around it built towers called ziggurats. The purpose of the ziggurats was to provide places where people could meet the gods. They were part of temple zones. Rather than make the world like Eden—to spread the knowledge and rule of God everywhere—the people wanted to bring God down at one spot. That wasn't God's plan, and he was displeased. Hence his statement—again to his council members in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+11%3A7&version=NLT (Genesis 11:7), "Come, let us go down and confuse the people with different languages. Then they won't be able to understand each other.”  God did so, and humanity was separated and scattered. The incident explains how the nations listed a chapter earlier in Genesis 10 came to be. That's the story most Christians know. Now for the one they don't. The Gods and Their NationsGenesis 11 isn't the only passage that describes what happened at the Tower of Babel. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+32%3A8-9&version=ESV (Deuteronomy 32:8–9) describes it this way: When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when he divided mankind, he fixed the...

When you read the term “toxic people,” who comes to mind? A coworker? A family member? Someone at church? Maybe it’s a group of people who feed off of one another in the worst of ways. What makes someone toxic? What’s the difference between a toxic person and someone who’s broken and needs extra love? How do you know when it’s time to walk away from a toxic person? In this episode, our guest Gary Thomas will be leading us through a discussion of how to recognize and when to walk away from toxic people. Bio of guest:  Gary Thomas is the best-selling author of over 20 books including the topic of today’s show: When to Walk Away: Finding Freedom from Toxic People. Gary serves on the teaching team at Second Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, and has been married to his wife, Lisa, for 25 years. They have three adult children and a granddaughter.  Notes and Quotes:  “Walking away isn’t always a statement of failure; it’s a statement of strategy.” If we let toxic people control our thoughts and focus, then we lose sight of the purpose God has for us. “Here’s my voice, here’s my mission” . . .  and don’t let a toxic person distract you from that mission. Women in their fifties will look back at the toxic people from their twenties and laugh at how insignificant those people have become in their lives. “Gaslighting is when somebody makes you feel like you’re crazy when you are speaking the truth.” “When you question your own sanity, they are destroying your foundation.” “All toxic people are difficult, but not all difficult people are toxic.” “Toxic people love to act in a toxic manner. Healthy people will occasionally act in a toxic way.” “Walking away is actually an act of worship.” “Toxic people often use toxic language. . . . Markets were down slightly last week, no big daily moves like we’ve seen earlier this summer. It appears the flight to safety has found its legs again. Gold-backed ETFs have seen more than $40 billion in inflows so far this year, roughly eight times more than experienced during the same time period in 2019. This week we’ll see tech giants Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft and Google (Alphabet) report second quarter earnings. Company earnings have been decent thus far but guidance for the second half of the year isn’t providing a real clear picture of the road ahead. On the coronavirus front, cases continue to climb. New confirmed cases grew from 3 million to 4 million in just 15 days. The ongoing impact of the virus continues to retail sales which have slowed in recent weeks. Today’s Key Questions - How many Americans will lose their home to eviction? - Will strength in the housing market continue to support the U.S. economy? - Is Europe poised to outperform? Today’s Bible Verse – 2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency[a] in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. Welcome to Day 1435 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomGrace is... – Wisdom UnpluggedWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek! Where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1435 of our Trek, and it is time for our 3-minute mini trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today's trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from  John R. W. Stott, and it is:    Grace is love that cares and stoops and rescues.      Grace Is…Complete and sufficient grace can only come from God. This does not mean that humankind is incapable of at least a measure of grace to all others. Since God created us to be bearers of His image, we can show and extend grace, even to those who may not deserve it, and to those who do not show mercy to us. God shows us grace because of His love for us, not because of our love for Him. It is because God loves us so much that He stooped down to earth and became a human so that we could be rescued through the sacrifice of Christ's death, burial, and resurrection.  As God's image-bearers, we must show our love to others even when they are unlovely. This love can be shown by stooping down to tangibly rescues others that are in need. We are all created by God, and none of us should ever think we are better than others. We need to understand it is only by God's grace that we can live in such a manner that we can help others. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans%205%3A8&version=NLT (Romans 5:8) But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2+Corinthians+5%3A21&version=NLT (2 Corinthians 5:21) For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin,[https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2+Corinthians+5%3A21&version=NLT#fen-NLT-28859a (a)] so that we could be made right with God through Christ. That's a wrap for today's Wisdom Unplugged quote. If you would like free access to my database of over 11,000 inspirational quotes, the link is available on the main page of Wisdom-Trek.com. Just as you enjoy these nuggets of wisdom, encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' If you would like to listen to any of our past 1434 treks or read the Wisdom Journal, they are available at Wisdom-Trek.com. I encourage you to subscribe to caWisdom-Trek on your favorite podcast player so that each day's trek will be downloaded automatically.
